My name is Charlene and I'm training for my first 15K in October. I've been a life-long runner, but this is one distance I haven't done. I'm excited to have found you guys! I have a great group of friends and family who encourage and motivate me, but sometimes I just need a little more, you know? emoticon

I will be participating in my third 5K walk/run in October. I began my SparkPeople journey September 28, 2011. Taking small steps along the way, after becoming sober, I embrace my SparkFriends and the changes that I have made and are making each and every day. What a blessing to have SparkPeople in my life! I am excited to be a member of this team of runners and walkers. I am beginning to add jogging to my mobility repertoire...LOL! I was so inspired by LINDAKAY228'S blog today.."Embarassed running or walking? Read this!" Wow, we can do it. I am 66 years old, soon to be 67 in November. The advantage to this is when I participate in run/walks that have age groups it makes me feel that I am doing well for my age. I did get a blue ribbon in my second 5K. My granddchildren and children are still in shock. LOL! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.

Hi, my name is Heather. I'm 29, from Hampton, VA. I'm a mom of 2 girls. I'm training for my first 8k, and it's the first time I've done anything like this ever. I'm both excited and REALLY nervous/scared! I'm doing this to get into shape and for myself. I've really changed as a person, and am in the process of changing and improving my life, not only for me but for my girls. It kind of symbolizes that for me, proves to myself that I am. The old me never would have done this, never would have stuck with it. I know if I can do this, I can do anything. I don't know how ridiculous it may sound, but it's just how I feel.

If anyone has any tips or advice, please let me know! I'm going this weekend to get a new pair of running shoes, so if anyone could recommend a good pair, that would be great. I look forward to chatting with you all!

Heather

welcome to all the new members! Sounds like you're doing great! I wanted to do the Susan G. Komen 3 day in Phoenix last year but wasn't able to. First I had a lot of trouble with the fundraising, then I developed severe sciatica in late July that I didn't get completely over until November. I didn't sign up for it this year but may next year. Not that I'll be running for the 3 days LOL! I have a long way to go to get to that point. But it's just such an awesome group and such a great cause.
I also want to do some of the RnR in the near future. It's in my bucket list now.

I hope the 5K went well for you. It is a wonderful way to honor your mother and yourself!

I was not sure how to add to the introductions, so....

I decided that it is time to get off the couch and into some running shoes. I ran my first 10 last Saturday and did okay. I need to figure out how to drink water while running. Most of it landed on my chin, so I stopped to drink 3X during the race. I finished in 84 minutes and am proud. I am on to train for the 1/2 marathon and am so excited!!! I am doing the Rock'n'Roll Marathon in October in St. Louis. I need to lose weight, but need not to be fixated on the scale. This is the perfect challenge for me. emoticon

Hello to all!! I've been a member of Spark since last year, but it wasn't until a dear friend of mine woke me up and sparked my flame again. I've been telling myself for 2 yrs now that I was going to do the Susan G. Komen 3 Day in Atlanta, but I've found every excuse not to. No more excuses for me. On a whim I signed myself up for a 5k last week and tomorrow I will walk my 1st ever 5k Pink Ribbon Walk/Run. I have been "training" for over a week and I'm overly excited about the journey that has begun. So tomorrow I will walk for myself in memory of my mother. emoticon

Hi! I'm Deena. Once upon a time I was a runner :) Time took it's toll, laziness ensued, weight gain crept up on me. I am now returning to my roots. I have registered for the Race for the Cure 5K, which will be my first race in 2 years. I have also registered for the Wineglass Half Marathon in October. This has been harder than I thought it would be, but I am feeling stronger and am excited about my progress so far!

Hi everyone... I'm just taking a quick minute to introduce myself to everyone. I hope to have some time this evening to go through the whole team and get to know what it's all about. My name's Maricela, I'm 27 yrs old, 278 lbs and I'm a beginner runner... actually pre-beginner if that's possible. I think last time I ran was sophomore year of high school when they made us do the mile and even then I dont remember a single time in my entire life when I've done a mile without walking. I'm excited about becoming a runner. I'm doing my first 5K on April 2nd, plan on doing other 5Ks, 10Ks, hopefully a half marathon sometime in the late fall and my ultimate goal is do to the L.A. Marathon in March 2012. Big goal, I know. Big dreams, big rewards! =) I'm gonna work hard at it.

Hey everyone! I'm Meghan and I've been trying to get back into running. I ran 3 miles 4-5 times weekly back in 2006. That is the first time I would have considered myself a runner in my entire life. I began to crave running and it became a perfect way to relieve some stress at the end of the workday. Long story short, I became lazy and stopped running and slowly started packing back on the 30 pounds (and then some) that I had lost.

Now I'm back and working my way into running. It's coming slowly for me as I have had some shin issues and I do have a chronic knee problem which I am very cautious of. I have started a couch to 5K program and am now in week 8 of 9! I am feeling great and although I am only down 7.8 pounds, I am seeing changes in my body.

My long term goal is to run a half marathon in October. I am really excited to try and achieve that goal, but at points I do get a little intimidated at how daunting that goal is. Overall, I am really excited with my progress so far and I'm looking forward to dropping some very much unwanted pounds as well as improve my running abilities!

Hi My name is Pat. I live in South Jersey. I have been a sparkster for 3 years. I have lost 36 pounds so far, and my goal is to lose about 60 more.

This year I decided to do something different, and not just talk about it. A team in training for leukemia and lymphoma brochure came in the mail a few months ago. I did see they offered Triathalons, marathons, and half marathons. I signed up for the half. They have coaches that train you and guide you along the way. My first session was this past Saturday.

My dad has stage 4 mantle cell lymphoma, so this is why I wanted to do it. I also wanted to get in shape. I turn 50 in may and want to do something also to honor that! Also, I was laid off from my job, and I could feel myself just getting.....into hold habits. so I wanted to do something about that. I'm nervous, scared but excited more than anything. The fundraising part scares me the most. lol.

I had to choose walking more so than running so far because I broke my right foot twice and both were bad breaks. Had extensive surgery and reconstruction. As of now, I am sort of afraid to run, but as I get lighter, I may try it. Thank goodness my team has walkers on it.

It feels so good to be invovled in something I believe in and meet new people as well. The whole experience is going to be great! I love getting up in the morning with something to do.

I look forward to getting to know you all.- Patty

Hi,
I'm Sara, I'm 25 (26 next month) and I have 2 kids under 3 (help!! lol) I've decided to start training for our local marathon and at least enter the half marathon for charity. However finding the time is hard as my husband works for the military and I have noone to watch the kids. Can't run after I've eaten as I know it isn't good for me, so fitting in a run is nigh on impossible. But I am determined to find other ways to get some training in every day, Be it walking the dog futher and further each day, with the baby strapped to me and the toddler in the pushchair or getting on the bike in the house.

Good Luck to everyone.

Sara

Hi! I'm new to the team, but not SP. I'm not a runner, though I'd love to be. I've got a prosthetic knee and need to make it last as long as I can. I walk though and just completed my second 5k yesterday. I have to admit that I do a little bit of light jogging during the race, just enough so I don't come in last!

My goal is to walk a half marathon this summer. I've got a few 5k and 10k races planned between now and then.

I had a very successful experience here on SP a couple of years ago, but then stopped visiting and, before I knew it, 20 pound crept back on the scale. So here I am again. I obviously need to hold myself accountable in some fashion. SP seems to be the way that works for me.

Lori

Hi! Im pretty new to Spark People, I joined the start of the year with my goals get my whole family healthy! I have been doing pretty well since my journey began, and I am looking forward to continuing my life long journey. I found this team and wanted to join! I actually completed my first 5K last spring, i was not able to run the entire thing, but I finished it! My goal this year is to run more, run the entire 5K, work towards a 10K and eventually I want to do the disney princess 1/2 marathon!! I have been using the C25K app on my iphone and love it. it takes you from the couch to running a 5K in great progression!

I live in North Central PA, so the weather is making getting outside to run really hard, but we are calling for above freezing temps in the next couple days, can't wait to get out there!

Hi, my name is Linda and I live in southern New Mexico. I've started c25k a couple of times and the first time I was almost all the way through when I developed severe sciatica (not related to the running) and could barely walk, let alone run for a few months. I started it again but have not been totally consistent with it. However I do like to sign up for events like 5k's and do them with a mix of walking and running as I build up toward running them all the way through. It keeps me motivated. I've also done some longer ones, mostly fast walking. Last year I did the 15 mile Bataan Death March Memorial in just under 4 hours walking. I'm planning on doing it again this March 27th. It was just such an awesome event. I also walked a half marathon last May in 3 hours and 4 minutes. I want to someday be able to run those distances. I was doing good with the running again until a week ago when our temps dropped to way below normal, (-9 degrees one morning) and it just totally threw me off track but I'm getting back on again. I have a 5k I'm going to do this weekend.
I'll be 56 years old in a few weeks, and had never been a runner before in my life. I was an overweight kid, then adult, who hated exercise. Now I'm loving it!
I'm excited that Whispering-Pine invited me here because I didn't know this team existed, although I belong to a few other running teams. I look forward to getting to know you.

Hi there,
I am new to this team but not new to Spark. I have joined many times before but never really worked well. I am very busy and have tried to run and swim. I have done C5k so many times that I lost count of it. At this moment I am frustrated with myself. When I did my first c5k 2 years ago it went really well. I went further running 5 miles a day 3 times a week. Then a bad injury, IT band and had to quit for 6 months. Since then I am going back and forth and not able to maintain my schedule. One good think I learned that I should have better muscles to run and I hired a personal trainer and this makes me go to the gym twice a week. I read about this team and hope to find some motivation to start back on my running and be able to realize my dream of a marathon. Thanks for the words of encouragement. emoticon

Hi everybody. My name is Jenn and I've recently joined as I'm attempting a half marathon sometime in the fall here, and my goal is the Disney marathon in January 2012. I'm excited for both!

I am starting to train for a half-marathon in April. I have tried to train before, but injuries keep getting in the way. I'm hoping that I can stay injury free this time. Last year I ran a couple of 5k's and an 8K so my goal is just to finish this half and then shoot for a full in fall.

Thanks for the invite!

I joined Sparks because even though I run a lot I am still heavy.

Over december I increased my mileage from 40wk to 52wk and GAINed 8 pounds.

I have a goal of running a 5K in under 18 minutes. I have been running for years, and have helped several people to successfully start running. So I am always willing to help if I can.

Hi everyone! I just got a really nice invite from Whispering Pine so I thought i'd drop in and stay awhile. I am 45 years old living in the outskirts of Reno Nevada, a mother of three grown children and 3 awesome grandchildren. I am unemployed at the moment (my area has had an economic melt down) which prompted me to take a look at myself and my life.
I since have gone back to school via online classes from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix. I am proud to say that I am on the President's list at the university for carrying a 4.0 GPA.
I am now looking at my health... Uck. I am only able to jog 2 minutes, but I can walk 3.5 miles pretty easily. So I have challenged myself to at least a 5k by April and a 10k by summer.
So, anyway, that's a bit about me. Hope to "see" you all on the boards.

HI everyone! I'm 36 and ran my first 10k and Half marathon last year. I'm excited to see what I can do this year. I'm aiming for a 5K on April 2. I'm sure I can do the distance, but I'd like to see if I can beat last year's personal best of 29:04.

Hi guys! Just joined the team. I'm a 39 year old wife, mother, and full time account manager. I'm on a mission to lose 50 lbs by my 40th birthday in November. 16 down, 34 to go! I took up running a couple years ago, and love the peace it brings to my life. I usually run about 7-8 miles per week, but I just signed up for an 8k on 3/20/11, and a 10k on 4/10/11, so I have to get my butt in gear and start training! (I've never done anything over a 5k race.) I'm following the B210k program starting this week. Hoping to find some new friends here!

Hello, my name is Deanna. I am 43 years old and live in Lincoln, Nebraska. I have signed up to walk the Lincoln Half Marathon this year. My husband will be running it. I have had both knees replaced so I have had to live with the fact I will have to Power walk these fun runs, which I have done some 5k and 5 milers. I plan on doing Bolder Boulder as well both in May. I joined this team after a very nice invite from Whispering Pine. I am excited to get and give support, information, and motivation, and I plan on jumping right in to discussions! Thank you all for the welcome!

Hello, and good day. My name is Kimberlynn. I'm a 41 yr old art major at my local community college. I'm the mommy of a Chihuahua/Terrier named Missy, a Poodle named Bobby, and a Sun Conure named Sunshine. In June '10 I was 190lbs (I'm 5'4") and got down to 170lbs on my own; but then I started to put it back on again. I joined SP on 1/3/11 at 175lbs and have already seen a huge change. I'm 168lbs, but the biggest change I see is the way my body looks. Things are starting to tone and firm up the way they are supposed to. I actually wore a pair of sweats to school yesterday and wasn't embarrassed to take my sweatshirt off to wear only the form-fitting t-shirt underneath. I'm not were I want to be by a long shot, but I'm getting there and it feels great.
I can't wait to say, "I just ran a marathon and made decent time" because I know that someday I WILL be able to say that. I just need to first find a great pair of shoes that help with the shin pain. :)
I'm so glad we're all on this journey together. I hope to get to know some, or most, or all, of you on here and form some lasting friendships; based on common goals and support and love.

Blessed Be ~~~ Kimberlynn

Hi there!

My name is Amy and I'm a Stay at Home Mom to two boys, ages 3(almost) and 4. I also sell Tastefully Simple food products. We're a busy bunch!

I'm fairly new to running and I just complete c25K last October and ran a 5k in a snowstorm in November. I haven't ran much since because I prefer to do it outside and MN winters aren't exactly conducive to that. LOL! I'm back in the gym, however, and I've just signed up to run a HALF MARATHON in June for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I feel like I might be a little nuts, but I want to do this. After the holidays, I'm close to my heaviest weight and I need to work on that as well. I have about 70lbs to lose, but I'd rather focus on my fitness than what the scale says.

Thanks for the invite to this team, I look forward to meeting new friends!

Hello all! I wish you all the best with running, something that has really changed my life.

I had been planning on doing the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation Team Challenge Half Marathon program, thinking that the amount I would have to raise would be $1500 to $2000. Last night, I found out that the amount is $3500 to $4500 (the latter for airfare). I was really excited and looking forward to the program, but now I don't know what to do. I know that I want to run my first half before my first marathon, but I know being a full time student and as busy as I am I will not be able to raise that much money reasonably. :( So, if anyone knows of any charities, let me know.

Hi all. My name is Christy. I am new to SP, but not completely new to running. Last year (2009 to 2010) I completed the C25K program and actually ran my first 5K before I finished it. That was on New Years Day. My younger daughter wanted to run with me and she actually ended up winning a medal in her age group. Come St. Pat's, both my daughters wanted to do the 5K. Awesome! Unfortunately, two days before I started hurting in my right foot. I had completed a great workout that morning and felt just absolutely wonderful. Then that night it hit. Blah. I did the 5K anyway, but not well and it HURT.

So, months, doctors, boots and braces and finally a surgeon later, I am starting over on the C25K program. (I had bone spurring on the top inside of my heal bone that was keeping it from moving at all and trying to head for stress fractures of my 5th metatarsal). I am eating much better this year and losing weight also. I just finished week 2 day 3 yesterday, so I know I'll be back up there in no time. My goal is at least a half marathon, maybe even someday, dare I dream, a full 26.2.

thanks for the invite to this team. Just the other day I decided to sign into the couch to 5k team as a challenge to myself since I DO NOT RUN. Currently I also track my kms at www.c2cfit.com as I attempt to cross Canada virtually under the name of Nookomis. I use the treadmill, recumbent bike and more recently some P90X exercises. It has been a slow endeavor and I am still in Newfoundland but getting very very close to travelling into the next province. I signed on with c2cfit March 2010 but it wasn't until I signed on with Spark in Oct 2010 that I started tracking more. And now I will attempt to run as I've always wanted to but weight and motivation were my excuses. With the support of the new teams I have signed up with I hope to meet my challenge.

Thanks so much for the invite Marj! My name is Kristina and I'm almost 30. I'm a stay at home mom of two little girls, aged 2 and 3 and I live in a small town near Calgary, Alberta. I started running seriously just over a year ago. Last spring I ran several 10k races and a 12k in the mountains! It was the most challenging run to date so I signed up for it again! I don't know what happened, but I got pretty lazy over the fall and basically quit running! I'm disappointed that I did that but I have forgiven myself and I'm ready to move on! I'm back up to 5k though I'd like to work on improving my time before I start adding distance. I'm excited to be part of this team and with your encouragement, I'm sure I can reach my goals!
Good luck to everyone and thanks for including me!
