NJSHAR,
I started eating low carb to loose some body fat, which I did. In the process I learned just how bad carbs of any kind are for blood sugar. I'm a type 2 diabetic. However, even for non-diabetics eating carbs produces an insulin response that pretty much locks up body fat.

Eating low carb allows existing body fat to be more accessible. Best wishes on your journey.

emoticon - I have the book you are referring to. I am also trying to keep my blood sugars level. I have also just finished reading Protein Power, which is similar, but is 7 to 10 carbs per meal. I guess basically, we need to eat a little carb and protein with every meal and snack.

Good luck!

Yep - the tempting old-fashioned goldfish that my kids love. But, I am feeling good about "being good" for the past few weeks, so not so tempting. Just trying to stay in front of being hungry. On Metabolism Miracle you are supposed to eat a "5x5 carb" every 5 hours - so it's 5 net carbs every 5 hours. Thinking in terms of eating at regular times, is helping I think.

Since I am a mom, I sort of was eating whenever, which turned into few regular meals, except for dinner and just grazing mindlessly.

I am from Morris County, NJ. Not far from Bergen. I am planning on signing up for a "yogilates" class through the adult school near my house - it starts next week. I am having a tough week, timewise, though, because my grandmother is very ill and I've been helping care for her, in between my own kid duty.

My friend and I have been sporadically taking a hot yoga class - will have to talk to her about when we can get back into that.

At least I'm eating better, though. Thank you all for being so welcoming.

Hi and welcome!

I hope you're referring to the very high-carb Goldfish crackers, cause if it's the other kind, well, those ARE low carb, but that would be really icky and would make your kiddos cry.

I have been at goal weight for a long time and I still wear yoga pants everyday, lol. I also have two kids, so lots of junk around. Try keeping devil eggs or chicken in the fridge in case you feel like snacking.

emoticon Shar! You described my wardrobe when I was 35! LOL!! I did lose since then but never stayed LC. That is the secret- you can't go back to high carbs or you will re-gain your weight.

I'm 35 and have two little kids.

I'm tired of hiding in yoga pants and loose tshirts & sweatshirts.

I started walking my daughter back & forth to school each (2 miles each day) and thought it was a great time to try to eat better.

I have had success in the past following the "Metabolism Miracle" book, which is low carb, so I'm back on it. I believe it's very close to Atkins, but more concerned with maintaining a level amount of blood sugar throughout the day to help with cravings, mood - everything.

This is just week 2, but I'm happy to report I feel motivated, find the food satisfying and am looking for a place to hang when I need support and want to eat my kids' goldfish.

Thanks!
