Weel since we're all confessing: I had three-quarters of a plantain last night. Mmmmm yum (if you haven't tried fried plantain, you're missing out big time!). It's a Ghanaian snack and my mum back visiting us (since she moved there 2 years ago) and made some last night and I couldn't resist. Yep, used up my daily carbs on it, but oooo it was worth it.

Wlecome newbies. You've come to the right place. This team is the BEST x

Woubbie - that's funny! My tracker is not much of an example to anyone today either. I only had 1/4 of a muffin at Mimi's Cafe, and I thought I was being so virtuous until I recorded it on my nutritional tracker. But hey - it could have been worse, I could have ate the whole thing and made my self sick.

My tracker's available, though I am no paragon of low-carb virtue.

Of course, Atkins has their website with sample menus at

www.atkins.com/home.aspx

And many of us have made our nutrition tracker public, so you can go to our SparkPage and on the right hand side, you can click on our nutrition tracker and see what we eat for the day.

You can read a lot of the older posts that have tons of information in them.

Just keep posting to let us know how you are doing and if you need assistance.

Hello my name is Val and I am starting Atkins diet today. I have tried it before years ago but I know that it is a lil different now. Can anyone give me an example of a days menu so I know where to start? I really need to lose weight and I sure Atkins is the way that will help me best. I would really appreciate any feedback. Thanks

I'm pretty sure that most everyone on this team realizes that lowcarbing is their new lifestyle.

There's certainly no going back for me because I will become type 2 diabetic.

Keep joining in the posts and let us know how you are doing.

Hi, Jyoti! Just focus on making all your changes permanent, one small change at a time. Atkins will work well over time, you just have to tackle each phase and master it before you move on to the next. Luckily most people master induction pretty quickly and then move on to OWL.

JYOTI68,
Hi.

Sounds like you've done Atkins, or similar before. If you are cutting down your carb intake I suggest you do it over about a week. Much easier for the body to adjust to.

On the official "Ideal Protein" diet, which I started on, the transition is done instantly, one day to the next, with a bit of a shock to the system. Swimming in carbs one day, but then expecting your body to burn its own reserves the next, but the body chemistry doesn't switch that fast, so you feel weak and unwell for 3 or 4 days.

Hello, I am starting one more time with my wish to loose weight. One of my friend is on Nutrisystem and lost 12 lbs in 2 months and thought I would give it a try but after wasting a lot of time on their website, I realized, I will just be wasting my time and money and getting stuck with their contracts.

So here I am, one more time to my favorite diet style. Just had a surgery and would not be able to exercise a whole lot but I need to tame my eating pattern. And have some time this month to get a kick start before my disability ends in September.

JLKL1980,
You are correct about the lower fat intake with the "Ideal Protein" diet. I did it for about 5 months then transitioned to low carb higher fat with virtually no I.P. products. Partly because the products, though great, are expensive, and partly because life long I need to manage things myself.

I recently got back from a 6 week vacation in Europe and didn't gain (or loose) a single pound and was eating out much of the time. All I did was eat low carb things. I'm back on I.P. for about a month now because my last 10 pounds are just stuck. Probably the fat I've been eating.

James - thanks for the info!

I talked to a member from that Sparkteam yesterday, and she went into depth about the plan. It sounds a lot like Slim4life, which I have done twice, but I gained all of it back twice. I wasn't happy with their maintenance. The main difference between that plan and Atkins is the much lower fat intake.

Have a nice day!

JLKL1980,
I'd say I'm managing diabetes without drugs, and the management isn't all that hard.

There is another spark team "Ideal Protein Diet Sparkers!". The diet was originally designed for the French Olympic team, to loose fat quickly, but not loose muscle. At that time I'm sure that the athletes wanted to loose say 10 to 30 pounds of body fat, something achievable in about 2 months. Today some people want to loose 100 pounds or more, and can take 6 months or more. Originally it was not thought that people would be on the diet that long, However the diet incorporates enough healthy foods, and is sustainable for a very long time.

It is possible to do the diet with grocery store foods, however most people buy the Ideal Protein products, which are essentially high quality soups, bars, fake mashed potatoes, and so on, but essentially whey protein powder.

James - good work on getting off the meds! When I hear stories about someone beating diabetes, it is so inspiring. What is Ideal Protein? Is that a diet of some sort?

Welcome Winders!

I've been living low carb for just over a year. I've lost 30 pounds, but most importantly I've been able to stop taking diabetes medication, after a decade of drugs.

For me this is a lifestyle change, not something temporary.

Cheerful,
Welcome. Yes, the first few days of switching to low carbs are the hardest. It takes a while for your body chemistry to activate fat burning mode efficiently. The hardest is probably over, but it gets yet easier over the next weeks.

Hi and welcome! Glad you weathered the carb flu pretty easily. Some folks have a very hard time of it. Once you get past those first few days the payoff starts. You'll feel better and more in control than you probably have in years!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone and sharing tips and support!

I am on day 4 of Atkins inductions, and so far so good. I a little bit of the "flu" but not nearly as bad as some I have read about. Much better today after upping my salt. I have read the book, but there is so much in there! Thank you to my new spark friends for pointing me in the salty direction. It's great to have a group to share ideas!
