Wonderful news about your husband! My skinny husband with mega tummy issues will die with a piece of wheat toast in his hand. :o( He sees how much better I feel, but nope- he's addicted. He even agrees with Wheat Belly.
After years of being overweight my husband decided it was time to loose weight (Yea! I had asked him to for a long time to loose weight because I am concerned about his health). He tried slim fast and got bored quickly and only lost 7lbs. Recently he read Living low carb after seeing me read it. My BREAD LOVING husband decided to go on Atkins! OMG! I am so glad he is finally working on loosing weight. I was worried he was going to have a lot of health problems in the future if he didn't get his weight under control.
Congrats on the baby! I have predisposition to diabetes, and am currently racing against time to get my blood sugars under control before my next doctor visit this fall. I want to avoid being put on meds.
I am insulin resistant and losing very slowly.
I saw your post about some books you recommend. I think I have the 1001 recipes - I will go dig it out.

My name is Jessica. I am married and have two little girls. I am in the Army which requires me to maintain a healthy weight and fitness level. I recently had my second daughter so I have some baby weight to loose, then my focus will be maintenance and fitness.
After reading Living low carb (Jonny Bowden) and eating low carb I'm convinced that this is the way to eat for life. I have a history of type 2 diabetes in my family and had gestational diabetes when pregnant. I am probably insulin resistant and more affected by carbohydrates because of my genetic predisposure to diabetes. I have already lost over 7lbs by eating meat, veggies and fruit. No wheat products, starchy vegetables, rice, or sugar. Once I'm in maintenance I may follow one of the plans (like south beach or zone) that allow for carbohydrates in smaller doses less often.
