Don't worry about sounding grumpy - ever. That's when having some cheerleaders is even more important.

Glad you figured out about the sweeteners. It's tough to have to make more changes, but at least you know what's working.

That is awesome that you found out that is holding you back! Info is always good. After reading this and your other post about the pop being a problem, I think I will try to cut out artificial sweeteners this week, too. I am in ketosis with no problems when I'm in it, but I have read a couple articles this week about how bad even Splenda is (non-natural), and it makes me want to do better. SP is really inspiring like that!

PS Forgot to say, grats on losing with the extra activities! That is a great surprise!

Thanks guys for the info and sorry if i "sound" grumpy. I tend to overly stress right now as dealing with a lot of health issues between my son and grandfather

. I finally hit ketosis right before my son was admitted into the hospital then my diet went down the drain... unfortunately they quick yogurt cups and premade stuff was easier, cheaper and faster while he was in the hospital, shockingly though i still lost 2 lbs. I think it was from all the walking though cause i chose not to take the elevators and i was walking a good 1/4 mile just to get my food.

Once i gave up my 1 pop a day i hit ketosis so it seems aspartame and artificial sweeteners may have been what was stalling me. Which sucks cause i tend to get a sweet tooth once in a while. But I will have to deal with it.

From the few days' logging I scanned on your page, your calories seem low to me. Now, I am the last person to recommend or condone calorie counting! LOL But you can make your body fight you if it thinks you're in a famine. It will try to conserve every morsel of EVERYthing you put in your mouth for future famines.

I would ditch anything "low fat" you have around you. Like that cottage cheese! hehe Get the real stuff. I have heard that cheeses in general can stall weight loss. The cheddar (and other hard cheeses) are better choices than the processed ones. I eat cheese, although it doesn't have the appeal to me it once had. I've been on restricted carbs (you can't really tell from my tracker these days! sigh) for quite a while though, so maybe it could be something to limit for now and add back in when you've been at it a while.

Meat is fine, any kind that's not processed. Ham is great - and don't focus on the fat content! Cook a ham on your own, and if it seems like too much, portion some out and freeze it. I recently made a ham with orange rinds and glaze and it was awesome! I love (beef) steak - particularly ribeyes or rib roasts and flank steak. When I eat steak, I trim off the fatty sections and eat those *first*! DH likes the leaner part. Let him have it! LOL The flank steak, well...it's lean to begin with, but we never have any leftovers of that, so I don't have to worry how much I make of it. Make some Bearnaise sauce (Knorr makes a great mix) to slather on your meat. mmmm Our chicken is primarily thighs, and no matter what pieces (or whole), it's N-E-V-E-R that skinless stuff. Rarely breast meat, unless I'm making some kind of roulade of it (with lots of cheese and butter inside!). We eat plenty of lamb here, too. I have one of those rotisserie cookers, and the best lamb I've ever had was done in there with just a spice rub on it. We devoured the whole boneless leg in about 2 days! yum I like lamb-burgers on the grill, too. Kebabs. Seafood sauteed in buttery sauces (REAL butter, please!). These things are okay for you. Don't skimp.

I have also heard reports from several sources that just the taste of "sweet" can trick your brain into thinking it has the real stuff -- and setting off that insulin cascade as a result. See if you can reduce your sweets, and monitor whether it has an effect for you. And aspartame is just bad news overall. Check labels. You'd be surprised how very many things have aspartame in them (like SF gelatins!). Of the natural sweeteners, stevia and lo han seem to be popular and (so far) safe. I haven't tried lo han, but stevia has a decidedly bitter afterbite to me. Our endocrinologist allows us sucralose, but it's the only thing he will permit, including any sorts of natural sugars. When I use a sweetener, which is rarely, I will sometimes use a small amount of coconut sugar or sucralose blend. But I don't do much baking, so those instances are minimal.

Don't be discouraged by your husband's loss. Men lose differently than women. And don't focus entirely on the scale, either. You should be checking measurements. Sometimes a seeming stall in loss of pounds is actually just redistribution, which you can only determine by keeping track of your changes in inches, not ounces! The recommended rate-of-loss guidelines state that 1-2 pounds a week is the goal. That seems unreasonably slow to me, too! but I don't want to start some nonsense with my metabolism that I'll have to struggle against. So long as the trend remains downward, I'm satisfied.

Hang in there. You'll make it.

I have also heard that diet soda can be an issue. The sweetness can make your body have an insulin response just like sugar does from what I remember. You may want to Google that though...in any case I think it's a good idea to cut that out too, at least for now to see if it helps. If you need a sweetener, Stevia is 0 carb and you just need a few drops. Not everyone likes it but I love it and use it in my iced tea. The trick is not to use too much because it will taste bitter then.

Also, from one of your earlier posts, I agree with your husband that you're likely eating too few calories if you only get 550 in by dinner time. Maybe try adding some extra fat in, like butter or oil on veggies, mayo, salad dressing, etc.

I have already cut the cream out completely several days ago so i do not understand why you are making a issue of it. I also eat more than cheese... Granted what i eat and how much i eat depends if i am home or not. I am completely horrible at tracking all of my food intake and am working on that so most days are incomplete. I also never said i dont want meat i said i tend to forget to eat meat. I usually have a breakfast meat and one for dinner but very rarely for lunch as i forget to make it for myself when no one is here since i am still in habit of not making any for just me... from what i have noticed from your profile it seems like you are doing paleo (just primarily meat) I am not doing paleo. Im doing high fat low carb and from what i have read on other forums the amounts I am eating of dairy and veggies should be fine. I did have aspartame in my diet until yesterday.

After posting here i got to thinking about if its possible the sweetness of the diet pop i was having one a day of was possibly making my body think i was digesting sugar. I read that some people cant lose cause of aspartame on a low carb diet so hopefully that is the issue with me also

I teaspoon is all you need in a cup. A cup of cream is way too much for one day.
If you don't want meat, eat eggs.

the cream is usually the amount i drink all day. I drink coffee throughout the day. so that half cup does about 4 cups of coffee and the past couple days ive been doing without the cream. so im cutting that out. I have a hard time eating a lot of meat im slowly eating more i was vegan for almost 5 years and vegetarian for 2. so i tend to forget to eat meat.

I will definately try to to increase the meat

What plan are you on? Based on your food tracker, you need to increase the meat and decrease the cheese and heavy cream. A little cheese is ok, but it should never replace a meal. Eggs with a little cheese or a burger with cheese is fine, but cottage cheese cannot be your breakfast. And a cup of cream? no way , no how! A touch of cream in your coffee is fine.
Ditch the processed meats, like ham. Eat real food, chicken thighs, burgers, steak. Meat needs to be the focus.

A tip on using the tracker - use the Groupings function as much as you can for things you eat or make regularly. It can take a couple of weeks to a month or more to get all your commonly eaten foods in. You can get a jump start by just focusing on breakfast food first (add eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, green peppers, cream, etc - all the things you might typically have). Then work on lunch. DInner is most likely to have the biggest variety, so just add stuff as you eat it. In a couple of months tracking will be much easier. It's really helpful!

Yea im pretty bad at logging foods right now I am working on that though. The sticks are new and can only get to purple. I have given up all sweetners as i thought it might be the issue. Someone told me cheese can cause stalls too but i dunno if i want to give up the cheese :/

I think whats frustrating e even more about this is my husband has lost 40lbs in 6 months and i see myself barely moving

Agree. Ketostix are really designed for type 1 diabetics' use and are not terribly accurate for the rest of us. (For instance, a really dark purple usually just means that you're dehydrated, not that you're really burning the fat, lol!)

You could test your blood for ketone levels, but, again, that's generally only a concern when you're nearer to your goal weight, or trying to go for really low body fat levels, or have been on a prolonged (many months) stall/plateau.

It sounds like you're doing really well, so I wouldn't sweat it for now!

I'm assuming your food tracker is incomplete, since most days you don't record any dinner? I strongly recommend tracking thoroughly, then if your food is a problem, you can see what you did.

I have heard from others here that keto sticks aren't particularly accurate. I would say if you're losing weight, you're in ketosis.

Welcome! Are you possibly using old keto sticks? I think they might lose potency at some point, and not register accurately. Surely you should be in ketosis at under 20g/day.

If you want to post your food journal of what you eat in a week, maybe someone here can help figure out what is going wrong? Sometimes, too, it can be things like medicines or other unexpected things... like Nyquil has nearly 20g/serving, I unfortunately found out last weekend!

Hang in there!!!
