Steroids are a nasty necessary evil for Lupus or as in my case severe Asthma...they are used for sooo many different illnesses & really do a lot of good, however, the side effects can be tremendous, especially if you have to be on them on a regular basis, hence chronic condtions emoticon

Anyway, we can kick those side effects (aka weight gain) & be the best we can be by creating a better lifestyle for ourselves! Here is to success (this time around) emoticon

I just finished a course of steroids to treat my Lupus, I have not felt this good in a long time.

Thinking about doing The Fat Fast to get my weight going back down.

Hi Lucy, the weather was kind of crazy...it drizzled, then it rained hard, the wind picked up & then the sun came out & it was actually very nice (in btwn showers) emoticon

Yes, I totally agree that a tossed chicken salad would not fit as perfectly into my purse than one of those occasional (emergency) bars do...key word being occasional!

Hi there & thanks for everyones advice, I really appreciate it. I do like the convenience from the bars & shakes in case I'm pushed for time, but I do make sure that I get most of my food from real food...although I did try (&like) those ATKINS frozen dinners (Walmart). One of those combined with a small side salad or extra veggies made a surprisingly good meal! I think it might just save my butt when I'm in a (time) pickle!

Hi Angie, I'm about an hour and a half north of you! Is the weather as nasty down there as it is up here today??

I concur with what everyone else said - I think some people are less sensitive to those kinds of highly processed food bars, but personally I think they are too fakey to be good for anyone. Whole foods are better for you but not as easy to throw in your purse for later... LOL

If you do use the products, count the sugar alcohols as carbs, at least half of them. They cause a lot of people problems.

Hi there!
I grew up in Seattle. Still remember going to the Tacoma dome...

I think everyone here is in agreement that "products" stall weight loss. Dr. Atkins was dead when the vast majority of them came on the market. Stick to real food and you'll be healthier and lose more weight.

Good support on this team. Enjoy!

I am starting my ticker again since starting low carb....in the home strech!

I started eating low carb a while back, had tremendous success but was sidelined with a chronic medical condition that required me to be on extended large amounts of steroids(again), which meant no matter what I did...I GAINED!! So I (foolishly) decided to give in & might as well enjoy the medicine induced weight gain to some extent! Of course it didn't help, but at that time I was in a place of "Whatever, I give up!" I don't need to tell you guys that I gained the weight back, do I? emoticon
I am now tappering down & I'm finally down to 10mg & feeling so much better. But I also think that me feeling a bit better has something to do that I am watching my carb intake!! emoticon
So, here I am ready to do this lifestyle change once & for all, looking for support, tips & encouragement from fellow "Low Carbers". emoticon

There is one thing I keep going back & forth on & need help with!! emoticon

I signed up for the 7 day food log challenge & since I m using some of the ATKINS products, I manually add the nutrition values into my fav's. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I suppose to add the total amount of carbs or are we, like ATKINS does, only list the "Net Carbs"???

Thanks so much,
Angie
