Re read Atkins or Gary taubes. Eating off plan once and a while may not cause weight gain, but look at how harmful those foods are for your health. If the focus is on weight loss, you will fail again. You need to focus on health. These off plan foods are simply not good for your health. I see them as poison.

I can understand being afraid of regaining the weight out of induction, and once in a while treats becoming more frequent than intended. I had a period when I regained a few pounds because I became overconfident that it was all working well, so maybe I could have a little more carbs and sweet treats. Once my pants started getting too tight, I got that out of my head. I rebooted back into the low end of my carbs, and got back on track. Now I know that I can't do that, so I pay a lot more attention.
It's a learning experience. Now you know what you need to do! :)

Well, like Woubbie said, it's living low carb. Yes, it works as a temporary diet, but the key word is temporary. As in temporary weight loss.
Try it going through the full four stages instead. It was never intended to be induction alone. Most people do fine eating up to 50 net carbs in a day, some can go even higher. Doing the OWL will let you zero in on your working level.
Yesterday I had a reuben sandwich for lunch, and still stayed under 40 NC. I won't need to do that again for a while, it was very satisfying, and did me no lasting harm. Maybe next week I'll have a potato at some point, with plenty of butter. And still stay under 50 NC.

First I would like to say thank you all for responding to my post. It is good to know that not everything falls on deaf ears. I did do Atkins. In fact I have done it twice once last year and back in 2002 approx. Both times I did really good but I never moved out of induction for fear of putting the weight back on. I would get to my goal weight and then just take a weekend to east whatever I wanted and then go back on induction. That worked for a while and then my weekends turned into a week off then a month and now it has been a good our bad how ever you want to look at it 6 months.

Welcome back to the wagon!
I've tried all kinds of diets, and when I discovered low-carb, it did everything for me the other plans promised, but couldn't deliver. I've been at goal weight for about 1.5 years, and I've kept it off by 'Living Low Carb,' as the team name says!
I honestly and truly like eating this way.
If you found Atkins too difficult to stick with, why not try a different low-carb plan that might fit your maintenance goals when you get there? I'm a hybrid of Protein Power and Primal Blueprint, which are good fits for me.

You say you did Atkins, but it sounds like you didn't go the full route into maintenance. You're supposed to lose the last few pounds very slowly, and taper into a stable weight. Then any time you find yourself up five pounds, go back into induction and kick it off.

Hi and welcome! I think you've made an excellent choice by coming to SparkPeople. And this team in particular is a GREAT place to stay motivated, especially in such a carby world!
I think the name says it well; it's LIVING low carb, not TEMPORARILY DIETING low carb. The idea of lifetime lifestyle change is really critical.

I joined Sparks yesterday and was unsure what kind of diet to do so I was unsure what teams to join or if any but I know I need support or I will fail again. I have done Weight Watchers in the past and I did really well at it. I got down to my goal weight and then put it all back on and more. I did Atkins last year and lost all the weight (32 pounds) in a period of 6 months. I felt really good about myself and then I went off and I have put about 20 pounds back on and am just sick with myself. I would appreciate any support and tips that you are willing to provide. Failure can not be an option this time. I hope by joining a group again I will feel some accountability and make a change for life.
