This is a very helpful team to be on, collectively very knowledgeable and positive. Most of us take the "Living Low Carb" theme pretty seriously, and don't see low carb as a temporary change but as a permanent lifestyle.
One of the best pieces of advice you'll hear around here is to read up on why low carb works and is healthy, as well as to try out a few plans to find one that you'll be able to stick with for the long haul. Best starter book is probably Gary Taubes' "Why We Get Fat and What To Do About It."

Welcome Christina! You have chosen a really good team and Sparkpeople, though not exactly "low carb" friendly certainly has many resources that are very helpful. The nutrition tracker is very helpful if you work around the fact that they are not friendly to low carb. Spend some time and make it work for you. Put your goals and how you want to eat in and it works to help you see how you are doing.

I'm just joining SP after talking with a friend a few days ago about how SP has helped her lose weight. I'll be 50 in less than 1 year, I have a daughter graduating in May, and I weigh 35 pounds more than I did when my husband and I got married--10 of those pounds gained just in the last year, which I know is partly due to changing hormones.
Anyway, in signing up with SP yesterday, I discovered that it is entirely possible for me to lose this weight by my daughter's graduation as well as be much more fit by my 50th birthday. Low carb has always been the most successful way I've lost weight in the past, so here I am again, with the additional goal of staying fit after fifty. :)
