No need to miss it anymore! Great to have you join us! I hope you have the urge to do another 5K! Set your goal and start training. I know you will rock it! I remember actually meeting some of my run partners at 5Ks a couple of years ago and I'm still running with them! In face, we've all become better because of it! Don't hesitate to post your progress and any questions you might have! Have fun with it!

hi everyone, I ran a 5k for the first time 2 yrs ago and loved it. I haven't run since because I have no one who will run with me. I love it that there is this team. Just started today and already did my day one for running. I took 2 of my grandkids with me and away we ran. It was great. oh how I miss it. Love to be here and being challenged. Thanks! emoticon

I want to leave a legacy...how will they remember me...

Welcome Anne & Adam!

It is TOTALLY different when you embrace your run & have fun with it! Time is by choice and you can pace yourself accordingly. As your days on the run go on, you might find the addiction begin. No worries! Just insure your fuel clean (nutrition), train smart (safely), and educate yourself. I've been preaching this word since I did everything wrong when I first started in Nov 2010.
emoticon
If you can find a run group or buddy, it's even better. Support is huge. I belong to 3 run groups in my area. I've actually found great support here and in other Spark run groups. In any case, enjoy your run and don't hesitate to ask questions here. We love to share!!

My name is Anne and I live in the UK near London. I am 55 and married with two adult children and two year old cats. A couple of years ago I did the C25K with sparks and enjoyed it although struggled for a long time to run more than 20 mins. I would like to run a 5k and not be last. There are weekly parkruns in my town. I have completed week 2 day 2 to-day.

Hi everyone my names Adam and I used to hate running mainly because it was something that involved work. I'm in the Army and was forced to run everyday because that's the Army way. However, I recently came into a job where we are allowed to run on our own and lately I have been enjoying running more and more because its become a way for me to get away from it all. Now I'm doing the 5K your way program and am looking forward to running in an actual 5K in March.

Educate yourself on running. Check with your doctors if you have any problems so you don't incur additional damage. AND run smart. Interval running will strengthen endurance. That's what it's all about when you are just getting started. It also builds your love for the run and that will strengthen a long running life. All the best and stay strong!

Hi all! My name is Niquole, and I have been running for about a year and a half now. I'm registered for my first 5k on March 15th, the Color Fun Fest in Phoenix to kick things off. Love to run, even though my left knee gives me trouble at times and slows down my progress. Working on running consecutively for 20-30 minutes, I seem to hit a wall around 3 minutes which is discouraging. Hopefully I will be able to run the 5k in a decent sub 50 minute time.

Welcome to the team!

Running is a great way to lose weight and get you fit! I wouldn't be where I am today had I not picked up running again. I kick myself all the time for giving it up years ago.

Hi! I'm Dianne--57 years old--live in NJ. I am planning to do my 3rd real-life 5K on May 17--provided DD3 doesn't need Mom to help get settled for her summer job. I have done this before--for my 2nd 5K--but that was 2 years ago so--I am going to do it again. I am trying to maintain my weight--not going too well right now so I feel I need the running to help.

My plan is to run Tuesday or Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. I have an ST class on Monday, water aerobics on Tues or Wed, a cardio step/sculpt class on Thursday and ST on Saturday. I can do an ST class on Friday as well. When I have to work, I can't get to ANY classes but figure I can run and do old fashioned calisthenics for the ST after work.

NTRICK, it's so exciting that you get to run in Germany! Your babies are the strongest inspiration & motivation that anyone can have. My Granddaughter fuels me mentally! Embrace your run!

Jessica, I'm excited for you on your first 5K! You never forget it! Since it's February, you will be ready sooner that you think for that first race. Leave yourself open to earlier races. If you decide to wait until Sept, remember to continue to train. You will do this!

I always tell those just starting out to focus on the facts that good training, nutrition, & embracing your run will keep you in the joy of running! It's a beautiful thing and have fun with it!

Hello everyone! I just wrapped up the c25k walk/jog program on SparkPeople last week. Since then I've done two more 5ks on my own, shaving time off each time. I'm ready to attack this challenge too!

A little about me: I'm and American, living in Germany, just gave birth to my second child in October 2013. The pregnancy was rough and I was only cleared to work out in mid-December. 2013 was not my year health-wise but it has given me great motivation to get healthy and fit again!

This sounds super decadent but I go jogging on the castle garden grounds in my small town. :) Its right around the corner and has wonderful trails of small stones and packed earth. LOVE IT. As I get stronger, I will start training on aspalt as well so that I can do more 5ks and maybe even longer at some point. :) Two-three days a week I train with my little girl in her stroller; on Saturday or Sunday I get to go alone. I train with a super old runner watch and mapmyrun's app on my iPhone. The combination of time and that robotic voice announcing the kilometers is so motivating for me.

My first official 5k race is on April 5. The second - a COLOR ME run - is on June 29. So excited about this challenge!

Hope to learn from you all!

Hi I'm Brandie. I've had an idea about 3 years ago that I wanted to try to run a 5k. But that was all it was, an idea. I didn't believe I'd do it, just thought it sounded like a good goal. About a year and a half ago hubby got me a treadmill. I thought...cool, now I'm gonna run. Yeah, I wasn't as consistent as I intended. Finally about 6mo ago I broke through the mental barrier and made it 5 mins. Worked myself up to 40 mins. I was getting 2 miles. I'm slow, but I'm finally looking at that goal as something that I AM going to achieve, not something to think about. I have been off SP for a couple of years and when I decided to log on and get serious about watching my intake again I found this board. I have done the first 2 workouts and was so excited that I'd get to post just under an 18min mile that I almost forgot I was still running and would have started jumping for joy if not for having to keep my feet moving. I'll be starting to take my run to the streets soon. Another mental barrier to breakthrough. I'll get there.

We did not learn to walk without falling. Expect to stumble but get up and keep trying and you will succeed!

Fuel clean, train well, and you can achieve anything you want. I will say that every Mud Run is different. The course might change and so will times. Speed in a "normal" 5K can depend on a course as well. Personally, if I wanted to get faster, I register for more 5Ks. I usually recommend 1 a month. This keeps you eating well, training, and guess what....you hit a goal weight!
emoticon
I know because I did it. I continue to challenge myself and that keeps me in the healthy lifestyle. It's all about your goals. I also know asthmatic runners in my area that have actually become better from running. No matter what, I would continue to check in with your doctor. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to holla!

Hi, I'm Marissa. I became interested in running about 4 months ago, right after my daughter was born. In November I participated in a 5K Dirty Girl mud run/obstacle course. It was so much fun. I sorta "trained" for it (in other words, I jogged a couple times a week for a few weeks), and finished the 5K in 42 minutes. For me, an overweight asthmatic who had a baby three months prior , that was nothing short of a miracle. I signed up for the 2014 Dirty Girl this coming November, and really want to improve my time. I'm looking forward to achieving my goals and having a lot of fun doing it!

Welcome Fabi..
Go here and read exactly how we train for a 5K.
www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messagebo
ard_thread.asp?board=0x46873x37949625

The object is to get you ready to run a 5K, whether on your own or an official timed race. There is no need to be afraid. Everyone goes through the intimidation of a 1st race. But know that everyone also runs their race. It's not about the speed unless you want it. All the best and look around all the other forums of this team. I'm sure a lot of your questions will be answered.

Hi I'm Fabi,

I'm excited and nervous to be here. For one I'm not sure how joining a race or running program works. Is it only virtual? How do we post progress, or how do we know when the race is taking place. Wow so many questions. emoticon

Welcome, Jen! Consider this running 5K to be a part of your ongoing training. I focused on a comfy pace to run a complete 5K. As I kept doing races, the speed came with proper technique. Finishing was my goal. 10Ks brought me to get ready for Halfs. The addiction and the adrenalin just captued me from there! Stay strong, stay focused, & train well. Share your progress & thoughts during your training. And don't hesitate to holla if you have any questions!

Hi!

My name is Jen. I'm really looking forward to actually completing this challenge. I've tried so many times, but I literally have a 5k in 5 weeks, and for once in my life I would like to run the whole thing! (I've done 4 so far and only run parts of them) I have so many goals that I would like to reach, like a marathon and successfully doing a Tough Mudder, but I think that I need to slow it down and actually make the committment to run an entire 3.1 miles before I start thinking about running 26+. :)

Look forward to running with all of you!

Hi, everyone! I used to run regularly, but that fell to the wayside when I moved somewhere that has actual seasons (I'm a California girl who is currently landlocked, never got the hang of running in icy conditions, and really hates running on treadmills). I'm going to get back into shape to run a 5k before the winter hits, and then hopefully maintain my fitness level by cross training until it's warm enough to run outside again.

I'm looking forward to getting to know everybody! (Yes, everybody! I like to aim high! ;) )

Hi Angela!

I'm positive this plan can help you! Before I started this plan, I walked my first 5K in 59.54. I committed to it and ended up running the full 5K. Last week, I just did a Personal Record! The plan also taught me structure and better training commitment. Know that you can always ask for help as teammates will offer their findings based on experience. The most important thing I preach is to have fun and enjoy the run! Cool runnings!

My name is Angela, I just did a 5k yesterday. My time was 53 minutes while going uphill 300 feet. I would love to do this same 5k next year but with a much better time and I think this program will help me do that.

Thank you so much Mirage! It's very encouraging to hear that you have gone through a similar experience. I will give everything to PT and take it easy as I start again. I'll look into Pose Running as well. I definitely think my form could use some work. Thanks again.

Hey Helix!
Welcome! I aggravated my meniscus in January after attacking a bridge during a Half...and the bridge won! I went to PT for two months and came back. I'm better than ever, back to going for PRs and running safer. I now use the Pose Running style. I just want to be able to run with the least potential for injury!
I've also worked with a lot of runners using intervals as the run game plan. The goal is to finish safely. It's what I focus on now. I'm always learning on my runs too. I think that's why I always do race reports on my blogs. I want to pass on what I've experienced in hopes it will help others.
In any case, I am most excited that you've joined us. Don't hesitate to share and ask as you get back into the groove. All the best, train safe, and be well!

Hey all! I have been a member of SparkPeople since around 2007, but just joined this team this week because I am trying to ease my way back into running after about 6 months off.

I have been an amateur endurance runner since I was a kid (I ran a 1 mile race with my mom when I was 7) and have run 5 and 10k races.

Last year while training for a half marathon my knees started bothering me so I quit training for a few weeks and then tried running again intermittently, each time with pain in my knees. I finally gave up 6 months ago because I knew I needed to see a doctor before continuing to run, but didn't have time to make the appointment while we were selling/buying a house.

Now, I am trying to start slower and aim for a walk/run combination for as long as it takes for my knees to strengthen up, instead of going right back to 5/10ks. I have seen a doctor about my knees who said I can keep running and will be starting physical therapy soon. I am currently running 75% of the time for about 30-40 minutes at a time.

I am hoping this team will keep me accountable and also keep me to a better pace of increasing my distance and intensity gradually. I really do not want to give up running -- it has always been my favorite form of exercise and mediation. : )

Welcome to the team!

Tree-You will get there. Just start out doing 10 min. or so when you have the time. Keep it consistent and then try and increase it. You will get there. Sometimes it's just a matter of forcing yourself to make the time.

Thank you! I dont have an adversion to exercising. Its just being able to find the time, and figure out how to work it all in now is my problem. I miss the gym, I miss having PT time,.... now it seems I cant get any momentum going. Like I have to nickle and dime my day to get any exercise in. And its not every enough to really get me there. LOL

Greetings everyone!
My name is Terrisse, but I go by Tree. I am the mother of a most amazing son, Cedric. He turned 2 this May! I am using my GI bill; going to school full time and looking for work.
My goal is to lead our family from the front. Showing my son the life that i want him to live and inherent by living it out in front of him.
During my pregnancy i struggled with both depression and domestic violence. During a no contact (for domestic violence) we got away and I have now divorced his father.
I have been making changes but have more to go! I used Sparkpeople back when i was in the Army and had great success!! I am starting again (even though now I am FAR from my fighting weight of 115)
I struggle with being able to fit in fitness with my bundle of joy (accustomed to being able to go the the gym for long periods of time)
While I am not new to fitness I feel like I am with a toddler in toe!

MANDIPEA! Great to have you! Sunday, I'm walking my 5K as I was sick and will now have to be smart and work back to my sub 30 minute 5Ks. I've closed the course a couple of times but I still ran my race. That's the important thing. Love having you here and we'll help any way we can!

Monty, I've lived most of my life here except for when I traveled around the world with my Marine husband. I grew up in a running family. If you are familiar with any running clubs here, my dad was the president of the GNATS and was a member of the Washington Roadrunners. We were at races or training sessions almost every weekend. I loved to run when I was young but when high school came around my focus went elsewhere. It's fun getting back out there again.

Hey Everyone!
I just signed up for my 5k today! I walked this 5k a couple of years ago before I started trying to lose weight and get stronger, and it was horrible! Just walking it- I had shin splints so bad and was the very last person to cross the finish line. It took me over an hour! I told myself that I was going to run the whole 5k the next time I did it.
I started running last January on a Couch to 5k program. I got up to about a mile running, but then summer hit and I was having a hard time running (no access to a treadmill). But I found a new running partner and started running again this week using this program. So far so good! It helps a lot to have a partner!

Welcome Sherree!

This plan should definitely get you running a complete 5k. If you can run 2 miles without walking, that's great. Just keeping pushing yourself to go a little farther and before you know it, you'll be running that 5k and more. I would always run a certain distance and felt like I couldn't go any farther until one day when I decided I was going to go farther. The longer I ran, the easier it got. I've got a 10k on Sat. and I find that the first 5 miles are the toughest. Once I get past mile 5, I get my 2nd wind and can go up to 10 miles comfortably.

Good Luck and keep us posted on how you're doing.

I lived in W. Springfield/Burke before I moved to Florida 4.5 years ago. My 2nd hometown is Arlington and my mom & sis still live in Falls Church. In fact, I'm training my sis to run for a 5K benefiting Breast Cancer Research in Oct.

If you follow the plan here, take your time, embrace it, I promise you can do this! Do not hesitate to ask if you need any questions answered. Run your race. Who knows, I might be running a race with you up there. I do have a goal to do that.

I went back to visit in June and ran from the Pentagon to the Capitol and back. It was such a victory for me. I used to weigh 258 up there. At one time , I could'nt run a normal block!

Have the best time on the run!

Hi team! My name is Sherree. I live in Northern Virginia. I have done 5Ks before but have never done one without walking some. That is my goal right now. Last week I was able to push myself 2 miles but then had to walk. May have been able to go further if it weren't for the lovely hills of Va. I look forward to meeting my teammates and learn from those of you that have accomplished this goal.

Hi everyone!! Just joined this morning and will go do some running shortly. :) I was jogging 1 mile on my treamill, but it broke...so I hit the pavement and could barely jog a minute. Ha! Surprise!!! When they say treadmill vs road is different, they weren't kidding!!
So, here I go...training for a 5k to run with my husband (who used to be in the Army and a Drill Sergeant). He is a good 9" taller than me, so I have to run fast to keep up with him!!! Wish me luck!!!

Don't stop when you're tired...stop when you're done!

Running definitely has it's benefits! Try and run outside more if possible. There is such a big difference in running on a treadmill and running outside. Good luck!

Embrace the run. It can be a lot of fun. I do encourage new runners to start with intervals (i.e. walk 4 minutes, jog 1 min, and repeat). If you've never run before, you might want to look at this

I walked my first 3 5Ks, then started the training plan above. Most importantly, do your race. Graduate as you become comfy. I can tell you that this cardio will definitely keep you on your journey.

Stay focused, strong, train well, be well!

I have been logging onto SparkPeople for a year now and still trying to figure it all out. I have joined the 5K running program to hopefully be able to run the whole 5k. I have never posted before so not sure how this will all work. emoticon . I also do the treadmill for now. It is a little too hot for me to run outside. May we both reach our goals.

Hello, my name is Amber. I have been trying to lose weight for a long time. I recently starting running on a treadmill and hope to get out onto a track soon. I have been consistently doing a mile and improving on my time. Now I am working on my mile time and going a longer
distance.I will be doing a 5K in October and would like to mostly run/jog the whole thing. I don't necessarily enjoy running but I am enjoying the goals I am setting and the improvements I am making!

If not now, when?

Trying a new ticker in smaller increments. First goal 10%!

Hello Everyone!

My name is Sarah and I'm 26 years old and live in Michigan.

I just finished the 5K Walk/Jog Program yesterday and will be starting this program tomorrow. I've never made it further than the walk/jog program so I'm excited to be able to run a whole 5K.

I did the Color Run a few weeks back and it took me about 42 minutes, but caused me some pain. Since then, I've slowed down my pace to prevent injuries. At the pace I'm at now, I can comfortable jog for 3 minutes and can't wait to go longer.

Those are good rules! I've been reading the blogs of runners my age and up (masters) and finding that many of them purposely hold themselves back because they've found that the urge to start too fast like the young pups just increases the likelihood of injury. After the first little bit, they feel their own rhythm and run faster or not, as their bodies and minds tell them is appropriate. I do not want to be embarrassed or disappointed, so this is advice I vow to remember.

Great to see you all! Do not hesitate to ask for any advice or help. We share experiences like runners do, to help others! That's the essence of the "runners bond!" In the last 30 months I've done over 38 5Ks. I want to let every one know the number one rule of running your first race is to finish! The second is to "RUN YOUR RACE!" ! I'm a huge fan of that. Each one of you will find your 'run." We just want to ease any intimidation or apprehension we all get before the first one. Don't hesitate to holla!
Cool runnings, Y'all!

Larisa here. New to jogging, but liking it. Never thought I could before, due to asthma and a high starting pulse (tachycardia). However, I passed a stress test, I have learned to listen to my body, and I have learned to adjust my speed up and down. I am delighted to find I can do this, after years of thinking I could not. So here I am!
I live in Oregon. Will be looking for some fall 5ks to compete in (outdoors). For now, just working on treadmills.

I am also new to running/jogging, started this year at age 61, and just finished the 5K Your Way Walk/Jog Program. I would like to be able to jog an entire 5K but was not certain how to increase my jogging time so decided to try this Program. Wish me luck, I am registered for a 5K scheduled 05/25/13 and hope to be able to jog the majority of the race!

I am hoping my son will be able to get time off from his job so we can run a 5K together and visit the college he plans to attend this fall. I have not been as active this winter as last and am looking forward to the motivation to get outside and do something together with my son! I also want to take part in some of the various color runs happening around the country. May as well have some fun while I'm at it :-)

Hi, I'm Stephanie. I joined a city-wide fitness challenge program yesterday and they encouraged us to end the program by running (or walking) a 5K on June 8th. I know I could definitely walk a 5K at this point, but I want to be able to run it. I signed up with a friend, who is a little more skeptical about running it, so I told her I was going to come on sparkpeople and find us a good program to follow in order to get ready to race. I am hoping that it will be good motivation to get back on track with working out and living a healthy lifestyle!

Stephanie

Hello Everyone,
I decided to make exercise a habit and have chosen running to be part of that. To motivate myself and stay on track I have signed up for a couple of 5k this summer. This training program looks like a good way to get on track without overdoing as I tend to do when starting exercise.
I just finished day one and it was so doable that I am looking forward to continuing and running my 5k june 1.

Welcome PRAIRIEJES! I truly laugh at age numbers now. I started running at 60 accumulating over 50 races including 5Ks, 10Ks & Half Marathons, did my first Duathlon last month at 62 and will do my first Triathlon in Sept at 63!
If you have any questions, just holla!
Let's rock!

Hi Everyone,
Looking forward to this training program and to being a part of this group. I just turned sixty (yikes!) and have been running the last three summers/fall. Unfortunately this winter has been extra long and so I know I need to ease back into running. I think this program will be great for me. Here's to all of our efforts!

Hello everybody!
My name is Romana and I'm from Austria.
In the last 6month I've lost 22lbs. My next goal is to finish a 5k or better a 6k... Because I signed up for a 'couple race' with my boyfriend... And it's 6km... But okay... :)
I'm very excited and I'm happy that I found this team!
Woohoo!

Hi Everyone,
I did a 2K run (although I would call what I did slow jogging) 3 weeks ago with my grandchildren. My daughter and son-in-law did the 10K. Now I am signed up to do a 5K on May 11th. I started following the couch to 5K and then ran across this and since I love SparkPeople, thought it was a good place for me. I am 57 and have never run in my life! My goal for the 2K was to complete and not walk and I was able to accomplish that goal and came in about in the middle of the pack although all my grandchildren were ahead of me! For the 5K I would like to be able to jog the entire distance but I will not be terribly disappointed if I have a couple minutes of walking in there. emoticon

Hello everyone!
I am excited for this challenge because I will be running a 5-k at my school on April 27th. I was looking for a good training program and started this 5 week plan on Saturday. Of course, because I started on Saturday it switched to week 2 the day after my first attempt, but I will just adjust my own plan. I have never really been fond of running, but summer of 2011 I was in great shape and was running all the time (training with my intense volleyball coach). When I was no longer required to workout daily, I enjoyed the time off...and lost my ability to enjoy running once again. My goal is to lose weight, regain confidence in myself, and learn to love running again. I remember how amazing I felt and how fast I could go! I will do what I can to get back to that place.

"Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." -1 Corinthians 6:19-20 -RPJ

Hi, I've just signed up for this programme and will be doing my first run this evening.
I have done the couch to 5k plan a couple of times, but then never progressed further at the end. This time around I want to finish the programme and then train for a 10k.

Newbie here! I'm 53 and it's about time, right?

I am slow and more of a "lumberer" than a "runner", but I am running faster than my friends who are on the couch!

I am off today to buy good shoes. I look forward to participating here.

Welcome, Michelle! You have more than enough time to get ready. No matter what, remember to run your race at your pace! Stick to this training plan and you will be fine. Also embrace interval training. I'm sure your family knows that strategy. Know that we're here for you and that you will achieve your goal! Stay strong, focused, and be well!

Hi! I'm Michelle. I've done a few 5k's before but have NEVER been very serious about them. I've always walked. A couple I have walked, ran until I couldn't breathe, walked some more.

Hubby is a runner, son who just left for Marine boot camp 2 weeks ago is a runner and our other two younger girls like to run as well. Guess I'm odd gal out. I've always thought I'd run if being chased by a cougar..or if there was a hot firefighter in front of me wanting to be chased. Ha ha ha

For Valentines Day I purchased entries into a glow in the dark 5k for hubby and I. I just realized today that it's 6 weeks away. Thinking I better get by feet in gear! Ahhh, hope I'm lucky enough to cross the fnish line running with him...and not on a stretcher!! emoticon

Hi everyone! I'm Marianne and I'm from PA. I'm planning to run my first 5K on June 7. I have NEVER run and I'm looking to learn all I can. Currently I'm working with a trainer on strength and core 2x's per week. Starting next Fri. I'll be participating in a 10-wk cardio program and will be working out with another trainer for about an hour 3x's per week. I figure all of this will help prepare me for what I consider to br the physical challenge of my life. I'm turning in 50 in May!

Looking forward to getting to know ya'll!

Welcome Everyone to a program that might just change your entire life! To make a long story short, My first 5K was the St Pete Times Turkey Trot 2010 and I walked the entire race. I was 60! I started this program after the walk/jog a 5K! I wanted to run.Today, I've done over 31 official 5Ks and 3 Half Marathons. When I started, I couldn't walk a block and a half! Yes, this Program works! Embrace it and have fun with it.
emoticon
Today, I'm still a team member because I believe in this program! I've also accumulated a lot of run experience in the 5K and still tweak my run plan to become better. Today, I'm paying it forward to all my teammates on this team!

Welcome Val!

You are right. Running on a treadmill and running outside are 2 diff. things. It is much harder to run outside. I used to run in my early 20's and then quit. Last Spring after doing alot of walking, I decided I needed to do something different ad running was at the top of my list. I started with this program and it worked great. Just remember, you will have hard days and easy days no matter how far into the program you are. Just don't give up. It is a very rewarding Sport and the feeling of completing a race is awesome.

I've been a member of SP for about 5 yrs. Over that time I have tracked my nutrition off and on.(Mostly off!) I've cont'd to visit SP mostly for the social interaction but I"m currently only active in one team.

When I was pregnant with my second son(28 yrs ago) I would have dreams of running even though I hadn't ran or exercised since highschool. Now I'm 54 yrs old and have decided to follow that dream.

The program looks very doable. I've recently ran for short periods on a treadmill(in my home.) My goal is to be able to complete a 5K outdoors. I have a feeling the treadmill and the road are two completely different animals.

While I do this I'm going to get my eating back in order. I have the tools and the knowledge, I just need to utilize them.

I wish all of the members a healthy and fit New Year!

Hello all! Starting the training program tomorrow (11/5) and signed up for a virtual 5k run for the week after it ends. I've been "running" since March, but have a really hard time running a whole 5k. That is my goal and I'm hoping that following an actual training program will help me finally get there. Good luck to everyone on this journey!!

Hi Everyone. I'm Jennifer. I think I can do this. I can run for 10 minutes on the treadmill now at 5.5 mph. So I figured I'd join up and really challenge myself!

Hi, I'm kinda late to the game..but here goes!

I joined spark in 2008 and have lost 102 lbs (and counting!). I've been doing the c25k running program and I'm currently at the end of week 7, so hopefully I can stretch it to 5k in the next bit here!!

Thank you Jennik2. Good thing I asked. For some reason I thought it was 3 1/4 ( 3.250) and I would have tried to jog that far.

Sue,

Just do the 5K at whatever pace you can. I think of it as being all about beating my best time. A 5K is 3.1 miles.

Hi all! My name is Britney and I am a 22 year old military wife and mommy to a beautiful 8 week old boy. I am somewhat of a veteran here on Sparkpeople, joining July of 2007 and having lost 40 pounds by the end of that year. With my time spent here, I have really learned a lot and ultimately have made a lifestyle change. After a very stressful and complicated pregnancy though, I gained about 70 pounds overall. Though I have some work to do I am optimistic that I can get back down to a healthy weight not only for me but for my husband and son as well.

"I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you learn to let go, things go wrong so that you learn to appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so that you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall a part so that better things can fall together."
