Hi, I did the couch to 5K challenge in 2009/10 and successfully ran a whole 5k, which was the only time I've been able to do that. I've walked several. I want to step up my game. I have a walking partner and we walk 3 days a week before work, but I want to add some jogging to help with cardio and to prepare for a 5k. I actually walked/ran a half marathon in December, but have really been sedentary since. Hoping to get my spark back.

Joined the challenge. It may be a tough one for me because of a bad knee but I want to try. I love to walk and enjoy the 10,000 steps a day challenge for Fitbit team.

I used to be a pretty solid runner, but injury and some other life obstacles sidelined me. I'm excited to start running again through this challenge. I hope that everyone sticks with it!

Hey All!

I'm Leslie, I just started this challenge yesterday. I used to speed walk 4 to 5 days a week and then just stopped for some reason, but really liked it. Figured I'd give this challenge a try, I'm doing it on a treadmill right now as the temps/heat index in the evening are still in the 100s right now and humidity is so high. But will be moving to outdoors as soon as it starts to cool down.

Welcome! My name is Ruby. I would say that I'm fairly new but I have found this passion for jogging only as I have become committed to exercising daily. I actually enjoy it to the fullest. In addition, I was told individuals lose more weight.

Good afternoon Everyone!

My name is Ruby Jones. I have been on this health & fitness journey since December 2015. As of today, I down 48lbs and have lost about 20" overall.

I joined this challenge because I have registered for my 1st 5K run which is scheduled for September 18, 2016. I'm looking forward to completing this race regardless if I walk/jog or run the entire race.

I have a love for jogging ....

Hi, my name is Kim. I'm planning to start this program next week. I completed the C25K program inbetween my 3rd and 4th baby. I had my 5th baby 20 months ago. I'm working the big pregnancy weight gain off. When I did the program before, I was probably 15 pounds lighter than I am now. Makes me a little nervous. In between babies 4 and 5 I tried a few times to do the program but I would get bad shin splints by the end of week 2. I hope that doesn't happen this time.

Hi, I'm Jill. I completed my first 5K in 2013 and I've run about a dozen altogether. But for some reason, I slacked off running about a year ago and stopped altogether--just wasn't enjoying it. No surprise, I regained quite a bit of weight--35 of the 45 lbs I'd lost, to be exact! So I hit the do-over button and I'm off to a good start.

I do want to run again, but I've decided to lose some weight first, to avoid excess impact on my joints since I have a bad hip to begin with. I bought new running shoes a week ago--they feel amazing!

Hello! I'm Glenda. I'm glad to be participating in this challenge! I'm heavier now than ever, but have had good success with Spark and the challenge in the past. My goal is to lose a bit of weight, at least 50 pounds altogether, to become much more FIT, and to RUN a 5K. Good luck everyone!

Hi. I'm Doreen or Doe either is fine. I have been married to a wonderful man for 20 years. I have 3 grown children from my first marriage. We have 10 grandchildren. I enjoy working in my greenhouse, cutting grass with my hubby's tractor or just playing with my furbabies Taysha and Kacie.

My goal is to lose 40 pounds. I am planning a vow renewal on the beach next summer. June 11 my oldest son is getting married. July 30th is my 36 year high school reunion. These events inspired me to get off my rear end and lose 54 pounds so far.

I'm mechel :) Mum to six, foster career, student, wife. I love glam planning, fitness, heath, nutrition, being a mum and Australia (which is where i live)! I currently live in Brisbane, Australia with my Partner(who i refer to as hubby but we aren't married yet,) our six kids, two cats, two dogs! I recently lost 20kg, but its slowly creeping back because i have had a rough last six months. I suffer from anxiety and panic disorder.

I am here to get support with eating mostly. I seem to always fall back into bad habits! I know how/what to do with exercise, and now have the added bonus of hubby being a Personal trainer now. He himself lost 50kg last year. I need quick healthy family friendly meals. I also need to better plan our meals. Sometimes it five oclock and i havent got anything to feed the herd so we grab pizza.

My biggest fear is my children being overweight and having the struggle i have had to lose it. I know i can changed that now! so that my plan :) Nice to meet you all :)

Hi, My name is Kate. This is the first Spark challenge I've done. I've recently lost a little over 100lbs and I think I'm ready to take exercise to the next level. I really want to start running, but I want to start gradually and not hurt myself or overdo it. The challenge looks like a great way to stay motivated, and it looks like there are some good tools here.

Hi Everyone. Just finished the "Walk this Way Challenge" and am moving onto this. I'm both excited and scared at the same time. I know I've got this, but February will be a key month for me on SP, so I've gotta keep myself in tune with the program.

My health conditions are pretty good, thank God. About 20 pounds overweight and have fibromyalgia. Sometimes I doubt the doctors that it's a thing, and sometimes I get slapped in the face with it and am literally almost 5-6 hours in bed during the day.

I plan to do some Yoga on "Rest or Cross Train" days as well as kyak and swimming. Maybe just a good long walk too. I'm kinda scared to even see what's in store for me tomorrow...

I wish us all strength and power. Blessings, Julie

Good morning everyone. I am not a new runner, but I am starting back at the beginning. I was diagnosed with breast cancer last September and just completed my chemotherapy. I was actually training for my second half marathon at diagnosis. I have not been able to run much during treatment, but I was able to power walk. So, here I am trying to get back into my running routine. Looking forward to getting to know everyone. See you at the finish line!

I'm attempting this program again...after having been a 'wogger' (walk/jog combo) in the past and successfully finishing 5Ks without killing myself, I have not been successful in the past couple of years to get my running program going again for various reasons. I really want to finish a HM (just once...kind of a bucket list goal) this year but first I have to actually be able to stick with a fitness plan. Starting here and hoping that I can stay on top of the depression and lack of motivation in my own soul that keeps me from going beyond the first week.

Welcome, MTTRAVELS!

I just started SparkPeople about 3 weeks ago and I love it! Congrats on signing up for the 5k. I tried running before but I only "jogged" for a minute and then my ankle would start hurting. I only lasted like this for about a week and gave up. Apparently I wasn't born to be a runner.

Hi everyone! I'm Adrienne and I'm excited to be here. I've never been able to run. I attempted a rookie couch to 5k a while back, but only lasted one week and my ankle started hurting every time I began to jog. I'm thinking I'm not meant to run, but we'll see.

Hi,

I am Marlina from the UK. Happy to be in a running group for the first time. I managed to do the 5K last year and then I started training for 10K. But, due to exams, I stopped training altogether and lost my motivation. So, now I am back in square one.
I hope with the group's running timetable I can get back into shape.
I would be glad to get news of other people's progress and success stories.

Regards

Hi there. I think this is the third time joining this group. Each other time life got in the way or I got injured. I finished my first week and I'm loving it.

Every time I stop moving my feet I start gaining weight...I started running a few years back. I never really ran fast, but I just kept jogging faster until both feet were off the ground. The next thing I knew, I was running. I actually started to enjoy running becuase I looked and felt better. I recently moved to a hot climate which makes hard to run. Not long afterwards, I started gaining weight again. I started to run again today....and I need to keep running...

Have not actually jogged in years but love to walk/ jog outdoors plus treadmill workouts regularly. My shins are 'singing'...scheduled a buddy workout tomorrow.
Ps: Buddy missing today but I did my second week, first walk/ jog plus added 10 minutes brisk walk .

Hi everyone! Go team! :) My name is Patricia. I started my week 1 day 1 today. I did 1/2 marathon two years ago and have been on the couch since. I'm ready to get back into getting fit. 100% all the way!

Hi everyone. I am returning to SparkPeople after 4 years and after gaining 20 of the 40 pounds I lost back. I signed up about a month ago, but am just getting around to using the website. I am looking forward to returning to running and sharing this journey with you.

Hi team, my name is Pam. I joined a gym 9 months ago today. Since then I've lost 52 pounds. I'm used to walking for an hour or more at a time but don't jog, much less run. In January I started using a treadmill at the gym. At the time my max speed was 3.7. I've worked up to a 4.7 max. On Saturday I did week 1 workout 1 using 4.0 for the walking speed and 5.0 for the jogging speed. Still can't believe that I did it without collapsing. My heart rate maxed at 153, probably not ideal for a 60 year old. Tonight I'll do the second workout. Not sure that I can make it through the entire 5 week program but I won't know until I try.

Hi everyone. My name is Sharon. I walk/ran my first 5K on January 10 of this year. I haven't ran much since so I'm starting over. I walk a 5K everyday and would like to up my pace from an 18 min mile to something impressive (LOL).

Hi! My name is Candace and I just started the 5K training program, yesterday. I've been working on getting healthy (seriously) since January 28, 2015 including exercising 5-6 days a week. Yesterday, I introduced intermittent jogging to my treadmill routine and it felt great! Currently, I am planning on participating in my first ever 5K in September with another in November. I am excited even though my jogging pace is only 4.1 mph and my walking is only 3.0 mph...that will get better with time (I think that applies for all of us newbies!).

Hi - I'm Barb. I'm 65 and have completed two 5K walks in the past month. I'm proud of my accomplishments! Now I want to up my pace to jogging. My big question, is how is jogging different from walking? Physically, what does one do change the gait, angle, speed? I've never jogged before!!! I am still overweight. My walking pace is 3.3 mph. I don't know how to get into a jog. Any suggestions you have are very much appreciated!

Completed my first day of the 5 week to 5K program. Am returning to "running" after several months. I say running in quotation marks as I am 4'11" and most people can walk faster than I can run, but I don't run for them I run for me. :)

Blessings,
Beth in OH

Hi all! 1st day of the 1st week of theWalk/Jog program. Been walking 5k for quite a while but want to run, or, at least combine running and walking so here I am! Did 2.9 miles this a.m with some jogging here and there so I didn't actually follow the exact plan but pretty close except went further. I'm praying my back can cooperate with this plan! emoticon

Don't stop believin'
