Hi everyone. My name is Sharon. I walk/ran my first 5K on January 10 of this year. I haven't ran much since so I'm starting over. I walk a 5K everyday and would like to up my pace from an 18 min mile to something impressive (LOL).

Hi! My name is Candace and I just started the 5K training program, yesterday. I've been working on getting healthy (seriously) since January 28, 2015 including exercising 5-6 days a week. Yesterday, I introduced intermittent jogging to my treadmill routine and it felt great! Currently, I am planning on participating in my first ever 5K in September with another in November. I am excited even though my jogging pace is only 4.1 mph and my walking is only 3.0 mph...that will get better with time (I think that applies for all of us newbies!).

Hi - I'm Barb. I'm 65 and have completed two 5K walks in the past month. I'm proud of my accomplishments! Now I want to up my pace to jogging. My big question, is how is jogging different from walking? Physically, what does one do change the gait, angle, speed? I've never jogged before!!! I am still overweight. My walking pace is 3.3 mph. I don't know how to get into a jog. Any suggestions you have are very much appreciated!

Completed my first day of the 5 week to 5K program. Am returning to "running" after several months. I say running in quotation marks as I am 4'11" and most people can walk faster than I can run, but I don't run for them I run for me. :)

Hi all! 1st day of the 1st week of theWalk/Jog program. Been walking 5k for quite a while but want to run, or, at least combine running and walking so here I am! Did 2.9 miles this a.m with some jogging here and there so I didn't actually follow the exact plan but pretty close except went further. I'm praying my back can cooperate with this plan! emoticon

Hi. I'm Donna and live in central PA. I have been a member of SP for several years and also a member of TOPS, (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) since 2000. In January, I joined Planet Fitness and love the place. I get there on average 4 times/week. I joined this program not because I want to race a 5K, but because I feel like I need to "up my game" and think this is a good way to do it.

Hi I am Alice. I have lost 45 plus pounds in the last 5 years and kept it off. I have 15 pounds more to lose. I love strength training and do that 3 days a week. I also teach a senior exercise class Mon and Weds mornings. I have never done a 5K, but have always wanted to. Starting this program to help me meet that goal.

Hi everyone. I joined this program for the support and guidance. In November I plan on completing a half-marathon. As of right now, I can barely run without getting winded. I need consistency and a good training program...thus the reason that I am here. My first goal is to finish this program and run for 5 minutes straight. Baby Steps :)

Hi, I am Michelle. I am excited to be in this program. I have always wanted to run, but didnt think it was ever possible for ME. I am slow at it and its taking a lot of work, but I have no plans on quitting. It makes me feel so good! Hi I'm Sandy :D.

I joined a walk and run group at work early in the year and 12 weeks later walked my first 5K race in March after that I wanted to run a 5K but kept putting off training for it and pushing the date back. Well there is less than 2 months left in the year so I picked a race happening in December and started training for it this week.

Call me Sandy. My goals are swimming in a 1 mile open water sea swim, running a 5K race and performing 50 push-ups in 1 minute.

I have actively been lifting weights (slowly but surely) for the last 6 months and along with fast paced walks but would like to increase my walks to jogs. Hello all! I just turned 41, just had my 4th baby (in July) and I'd been thinking of doing one of these programs. I've also been reading a book called Eat Move Sleep (which I highly recommend!) and that helped kick me in the pants, so I finally decided today's the day! Well, tomorrow morning I will actually start, but I did do some walking today! My father-in-law is a runner so I've asked him to sign up for a run with me to keep me motivated!

I hot into run/walking over 10 years ago and lived it. I even completed a marathon in 2004. Then I had an injury, then I met my husband, got married, had 2 babies and the running got kicked to the curb. I'm back now. I've missed it and was looking to get back into it when I found this group. Perfect timing! I did my first day of week one yesterday and it felt good. It was hard, but I could do it. I've signed up for a turkey trot 5k and want to be able to run more of it than walk. Thanks for your encouragement everyone!!

Hi, I am 46 today! I have never ran for speed, but rather for distance. I have jogged 3+ miles but I have become over weight and out of shape over the last 7 years. So I joined this program to get myself back on track. Hoping to gain some strength and endurance during this challenge.

I am not exactly new to the forum, however this is one of my few posts. I was active when I Was younger, have worked out my whole entire life. As I have aged my body has become slower. So, instead of running, I am a jogger now, I have added a few lbs on since my 20s when I taught aerobic classes and ran daily. I entered my first 5K at 44, second at 45 and third at 46. Well now I am 57 and ran my fourth 5 K this past spring and did not train, I walked half that race and was so sore for days afterwards.

Saturday I will again participate in an 5 K, I did do a little training this time, run walking for 4 miles but still can't run the whole thing. I find I like to push myself. I take my music with me and run at my own pace. My daughter runs as well, but she is much faster than I am.

I don't want to be like many people I know, big, old and way too sedentary. Old before their time. I would prefer to continue jogging and exercising until the day I die!

I have done 2 5k's before in the past few years. This time I really have been pushing myself to not just get through my run, but to get stronger and better at it. I have always been one of those people who envied runners. I just never thought I could possibly be one. But the more I get out there and do it, the more I am coming to realize that I am the only one who ever prevented me from succeeding at it. So I am determined not to self-sabotage. I have been going strong for a few weeks now and have a 5k I am participating in this Saturday with my mom (it will be her first) and I am really glad I am getting back on track. Here's to being a successful runner!

Hi y'all, my name is Sonja I am 50 and I just returned to Spark! I am hoping for success this time around..I have about 45 pounds to shed. I would really like to get this goal accomplished by my daughters wedding in April of 2015. I just finished my first week of training for the 5K Walk/Job program. I am very slow but persistent. I have to get the eating portion of getting healthy under control not that I eat a lot of junk food or unhealthy, I think I am overwhelmed on where to start with the eating portion. I need lots of help in this department. I am really excited about joining the 5k group. I have walked for the past 6 months consistently and feel it is time to step it up a notch. So excited. I JUST (30 minutes ago) finished my first virtual 5K and the 5K Your Way Walking Program. I've walked farther and faster than I ever have been able to before. I did the last mile at 3.8 mph! I finished at 51:33! Now it's time to push harder. My goal is to eventually run a 5K in 30 minutes. I'll set my walk/jog goal in about week 3 or 4.

One step at a time, and each a little faster.

Hello. I use to be a member of sparks a while ago and forgot everything. But i am back now. I am going to work on changing my walking habits to running as walking is getting me no where....lol! I am no longer losing any inches or fat anymore. I decided to do this big change. I hope i can do it.

Hi, everyone. It's my first time trying the 5k program. I have been on and off on Sparkpeople for about 3yrs. In those years my back pain has decreased and I am able to run more than I had before joining Sparkpeople. In a few months I will run a 5k, so I want to practice before the main race.

Not really new but starting over. Had surgery almost 7 weeks ago and building back up. This is a good place to start. I've done a few 5 k's but never managed to run a complete one, just walk/run intervals.

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this team. I have never done a 5K before. So I decided to try this. I am trying to make healthier choices and lose weight. I am open to any advice or suggestions. I have never ran a 5K or even walked one in my life!!! I think this will be a great new start!! I'm excited!!

Hi, I am training for a 5K I will be doing in October and I was hoping that joining this team will keep me on track while I train. I have run in the past, but I haven't been running much in the past year, so I'm looking forward to successfully completing a 5K in 40 minutes or less. Hope you all meet your goals as well!

Hi my name is Michelle. Just joined a few days ago. I'm on the first week of training. I have to admit I'm a bit intimidated by this because I'm not very athletic, but I am excited to get out there and shake my thing which will help me get healthier and feel great.

I love boho gypsy style, animals, the outdoors, art and classic cars. I love vintage stuff. Yes I'm a complete geek and I am happy that way. Can't wait to see everyone's progress. Good luck! emoticon
