Sharsue: Thank you for the birthday wish. I read on your page about "trying again" - so am I. I also have been a member for a long time and just now getting into it again with a different approach and outlook. I want to take this program seriously and take advantage of all it has to offer.

I have done 2 5k's before in the past few years. This time I really have been pushing myself to not just get through my run, but to get stronger and better at it. I have always been one of those people who envied runners. I just never thought I could possibly be one. But the more I get out there and do it, the more I am coming to realize that I am the only one who ever prevented me from succeeding at it. So I am determined not to self-sabotage. I have been going strong for a few weeks now and have a 5k I am participating in this Saturday with my mom (it will be her first) and I am really glad I am getting back on track. Here's to being a successful runner!

My name is Peggy. I am turning 50 today! I have about 30 lbs to lose and thought this is a great way to keep me on track, accountable, and give me a goal to reach. I have steadily made positive changes in my life, habits, and choices - this is part of it.

Hi y'all, my name is Sonja I am 50 and I just returned to Spark! I am hoping for success this time around..I have about 45 pounds to shed. I would really like to get this goal accomplished by my daughters wedding in April of 2015. I just finished my first week of training for the 5K Walk/Job program. I am very slow but persistent. I have to get the eating portion of getting healthy under control not that I eat a lot of junk food or unhealthy, I think I am overwhelmed on where to start with the eating portion. I need lots of help in this department. I am really excited about joining the 5k group. I have walked for the past 6 months consistently and feel it is time to step it up a notch. Thanks for letting me join!

Hello, all! emoticon
I'm Sharon, I just turned 45, and I haven't done ANY running since high school. And even that was the bare minimum that I could get away with in gym. emoticon
But I'd really like to change that, and this Program looks like the perfect way to do that!
I'm really looking forward to getting started. I plan on doing Day One on Monday.
Wish me luck, and good luck to all the other Newbies out there! emoticon

Hi!! I'm Shelly and I just rejoined Spark! I had an account a long time ago but didn't utilize it like I should've! I'm an 8th grade teacher and have about 30 pounds to lose. I'm trying not to focus on the scale too much... I just want to feel good and healthy!! I tend to do well for awhile and then once I have a hiccup it goes downhill from there..I love how Spark is community based and I look forward to interacting with all of you, keeping each other on track, and exchanging advice :)

So excited. I JUST (30 minutes ago) finished my first virtual 5K and the 5K Your Way Walking Program. I've walked farther and faster than I ever have been able to before. I did the last mile at 3.8 mph! I finished at 51:33! Now it's time to push harder. My goal is to eventually run a 5K in 30 minutes. I'll set my walk/jog goal in about week 3 or 4.

One step at a time, and each a little faster.

Hi, everyone. It's my first time trying the 5k program. I have been on and off on Sparkpeople for about 3yrs. In those years my back pain has decreased and I am able to run more than I had before joining Sparkpeople. In a few months I will run a 5k, so I want to practice before the main race.

Not really new but starting over. Had surgery almost 7 weeks ago and building back up. This is a good place to start. I've done a few 5 k's but never managed to run a complete one, just walk/run intervals.

Hi, I am training for a 5K I will be doing in October and I was hoping that joining this team will keep me on track while I train. I have run in the past, but I haven't been running much in the past year, so I'm looking forward to successfully completing a 5K in 40 minutes or less. Hope you all meet your goals as well!

Hi my name is Michelle. Just joined a few days ago. I'm on the first week of training. I have to admit I'm a bit intimidated by this because I'm not very athletic, but I am excited to get out there and shake my thing which will help me get healthier and feel great.

I love boho gypsy style, animals, the outdoors, art and classic cars. I love vintage stuff. Yes I'm a complete geek and I am happy that way. Can't wait to see everyone's progress. Good luck! emoticon

I was so excited to see this program on SP when I was restarting using SP again! By coincidence, or Divine intervention, I happened to start walk/jog this afternoon. I have no idea how far I actually went because it was an unmeasured track. To make tracking easier, I will start mapping out routes with that tool because I live in Oregon and we have TONS of gorgeous places to walk/jog/run around here.
Oh, and my name is Debbie. I used SP for a while over 2 years ago. I had trouble sticking with it and was terrible about checking in with my teams, but this time, I have spent 2 weeks preparing myself and everything I'll need to really commit. In 2008, I weighed 190 and at only 5'2", that was awful! I'm now at 150 and looking forward to releasing another 20-25 pounds into the wild!

Hi, My name is Dale. I have lost 40 pounds and I seem stuck. I'm hoping that kicking it up a notch will start the scales moving again. I've never been a runner and I'm not sure if my knees will hold up but I'm going to try.

Colleen,

Good luck to you as well. I think it's about 2 minutes, certainly not more. A solid minute for sure. I end up spending to much time trying to look at where I'm starting and where I'm stopping. I get so excited that I did something, then can't hit the silly button to see my time.

Good Luck to you as well. I agree health is the primary focus.

Hi Patty, congratulations on your wonderful successes this year! I have been on a similar journey the last few months, health is my primary goal, the weight loss is a nice bonus. I'm just starting this program and am proud that I can jog for one whole minute at a time. If you can already run two minutes at a time you're ahead of the game. Good luck to us all!

Hi my name is Patty I'm 49 years old turning the big 5-0 in July. After being an insulin dependent type 2 diabetic, in addition to be on orals meds for my sugar, the doc said next step was an insulin pump. I just wasn't going to do it. I started doing low carb, and increasing my exercise. Starting with walking everyday. I have no progressed to meeting with a trainer once a week to help me with all of the things that I don't do on my own. I am now completely off insulin am down 35 pounds this year 2014, and my blood labs are good.

I would like to be able fun at least 1 mile. But right now even a quarter of a mile would be a goal. I really have not been able to yet run. I'm not sure how to start. I am able to run a minute, almost 2 minutes, then walk, then run and alternate that way.

The goal is to be healthy and get the rest of this weight off.

Hi! I've done a little bit of running in the past, and I know that I got my best workouts that way, so I'm going to try to get back into it. I'm not regularly working out, so I hope that the structure of this will also help me in the discipline department. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you and hearing about your goals! I would also like to lose 50 lbs and finally reach my dang goal weight.

Hello! I've never been a runner, never even considered it before, but walking doesn't seem to be aerobic enough anymore and SP has all sorts of great info and encouragement...so I'm stepping (jogging) way out of my shell and going for it. Good luck to us all!

I am just starting out. I am hoping to go from a couch potato to a runner. Some people at work invited me to a dirty fit challenge in a little over a month. I'm hoping to run with them! They are all much more in shape than me, but I'm hoping to catch up to them. :)

Haven't run since high school except for tennis and basketball spurts. Excited about this program! I have a sedentary job and I need to kick up my 54 year old metabolism.

Hello, I am new to running. I've been exercising for a couple years now and walking just isn't cutting it anymore. I need to take it to the next level. I am looking to get some motivation when I lack it, advice and help with what worked for others.

I am just starting out again. I have not run in 10 years. This is the first step in getting ready to run a 1/2 marathon before my 30th birthday. I have a really hard time getting motivated and staying motivated.

HI! I joined this team because last year I had a doctor tell me that at the age of 61, we are to old to run. I believed her, but now I know I can do what every I choose to try if I take my time and do it right.Walking is great but I am ready to try something new.
I have RA, OTIOSE ARTHRITIS, FIBROMYALGIA and a few other things that come along with them. This is my chance to see if I can do this. I will Stop at anytime I feel I am over doing it.
Our son goes with me and is a great help and a lot over protective.

Hi! I'm Ashley, joined sparkpeople a few years ago, but never lost enough weight and have even put on more weight since I joined. A few years ago I partipated in my first 5k; PurpleStride 5k which is a 5k that raises awareness for panceatic cancer. I did it because it was a cause close to my heart. I then participated in another one in October of that year, also for a cause close to my heart (AFSP). I did the same thing the following year. This year however, since I've been working out and losing weight, I signed up for a few. I just did one April 5th called CosmicRun which was done at night. It was pretty cool but I really wish they did it when it was warmer out. I am once again participating in PurpleStride happening in June and I am also going to do the Run or Dye 5k in July. That is why I joined this team :) Hello all!

Hi. I am not new to running but had taken a lot of time off because of Pregnancy and then have had a lot of problems getting started again. Saw this program and it looked like the perfect program to get me back into it.

Hi - I'm Lisa. I did this a couple of years ago and since Spring has finally sprung here, in WI, I saw a banner for a 5K fundraiser that I'm going to "study" for with this challenge team.

Looking forward to it!

My name is Shannon. I started a couch 2 5 K plan a few weeks ago, but it is a little confusing and I have struggled with running for 3 whole minutes yet. The 5K I am registered for is May 22 and will be my first one. I am running it with my 9 year old daughter for the Girls on the Run program sponsored by United Way. I do not really like running overall (prefer dvd workouts) but I told her we would do this together. That is my motivation. I track food and exercise on sparkpeople pretty frequently and figured it will be easier to join this group and do this program than the one I have been trying to do. Plus I could use the encouragement/support from a team. Thanks!

Decide. Commit. Succeed. (It can be done! I will do it!)

1 Cor. 6:19-20 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own, you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your body.

Hello everyone! So super excited to join this challenge/team. I've always felt like a runner on the inside but my outsides just kept holding me back ha! Now that I've lost just enough weight to feel more comfortable exercising, I am ready to go! Thank you for being here and happiest thoughts to all:)

Welcome, DRWMITCH!

A hot link to the calendar is on the team page at the top! You can pick the training program you like and print out a calendar.

Then when you complete each segment, go back to the online calendar and report progress.

Good luck!

Baby steps!

One week on Sparkpeople. Have a goal of a 5k this summer. Started a couple of months ago at 230 and now 204 but need to find motivation to keep active. How do I find the interactive calendar?

I just wanted to say hello to everyone and introduce myself my name is Jeanna I am 27 and I have been struggling with my weight my whole life. I will start to lose weight and do good then just lose the momentum and just stop and gain all the weight back. my highest weight to date is 330 lbs I am currently down to 290. I have recently suffered a death in the family that has really shocked me back into wanting and needing to make a change. I really believe that this time I can do it.

Jeanna

Hi All, I'm shooting to be able to jog by May. So far, I have been doing intervals between 20 to 30 minutes. I had a really bad ankle injury and finally feel my ankle is up to it. (I was able to balance on one leg and lift weights today and my recovering ankle did much better.)

Hi all,

I signed up a few days ago, I actually will start my training tomorrow. this is my first race that I am competing in, I did a 4 mile walk on March 15th that I though was really fun and last year my daughter ran in this race so this year I am going to run with her. the race is on May 17th and I am looking forward to crossing the finish line!
