Hello! I'm Glenda. I'm glad to be participating in this challenge! I'm heavier now than ever, but have had good success with Spark and the challenge in the past. My goal is to lose a bit of weight, at least 50 pounds altogether, to become much more FIT, and to RUN a 5K. Good luck everyone!

Hi. I'm Doreen or Doe either is fine. I have been married to a wonderful man for 20 years. I have 3 grown children from my first marriage. We have 10 grandchildren. I enjoy working in my greenhouse, cutting grass with my hubby's tractor or just playing with my furbabies Taysha and Kacie.

My goal is to lose 40 pounds. I am planning a vow renewal on the beach next summer. June 11 my oldest son is getting married. July 30th is my 36 year high school reunion. These events inspired me to get off my rear end and lose 54 pounds so far.

I'm mechel :) Mum to six, foster career, student, wife. I love glam planning, fitness, heath, nutrition, being a mum and Australia (which is where i live)! I currently live in Brisbane, Australia with my Partner(who i refer to as hubby but we aren't married yet,) our six kids, two cats, two dogs! I recently lost 20kg, but its slowly creeping back because i have had a rough last six months. I suffer from anxiety and panic disorder.

I am here to get support with eating mostly. I seem to always fall back into bad habits! I know how/what to do with exercise, and now have the added bonus of hubby being a Personal trainer now. He himself lost 50kg last year. I need quick healthy family friendly meals. I also need to better plan our meals. Sometimes it five oclock and i havent got anything to feed the herd so we grab pizza.

My biggest fear is my children being overweight and having the struggle i have had to lose it. I know i can changed that now! so that my plan :) Nice to meet you all :)

Hi, My name is Kate. This is the first Spark challenge I've done. I've recently lost a little over 100lbs and I think I'm ready to take exercise to the next level. I really want to start running, but I want to start gradually and not hurt myself or overdo it. The challenge looks like a great way to stay motivated, and it looks like there are some good tools here.

Hi Everyone. Just finished the "Walk this Way Challenge" and am moving onto this. I'm both excited and scared at the same time. I know I've got this, but February will be a key month for me on SP, so I've gotta keep myself in tune with the program.

My health conditions are pretty good, thank God. About 20 pounds overweight and have fibromyalgia. Sometimes I doubt the doctors that it's a thing, and sometimes I get slapped in the face with it and am literally almost 5-6 hours in bed during the day.

I plan to do some Yoga on "Rest or Cross Train" days as well as kyak and swimming. Maybe just a good long walk too. I'm kinda scared to even see what's in store for me tomorrow...

I wish us all strength and power. Blessings, Julie

Good morning everyone. I am not a new runner, but I am starting back at the beginning. I was diagnosed with breast cancer last September and just completed my chemotherapy. I was actually training for my second half marathon at diagnosis. I have not been able to run much during treatment, but I was able to power walk. So, here I am trying to get back into my running routine. Looking forward to getting to know everyone. See you at the finish line!

I'm attempting this program again...after having been a 'wogger' (walk/jog combo) in the past and successfully finishing 5Ks without killing myself, I have not been successful in the past couple of years to get my running program going again for various reasons. I really want to finish a HM (just once...kind of a bucket list goal) this year but first I have to actually be able to stick with a fitness plan. Starting here and hoping that I can stay on top of the depression and lack of motivation in my own soul that keeps me from going beyond the first week.

Welcome, MTTRAVELS!

I just started SparkPeople about 3 weeks ago and I love it! Congrats on signing up for the 5k. I tried running before but I only "jogged" for a minute and then my ankle would start hurting. I only lasted like this for about a week and gave up. Apparently I wasn't born to be a runner.

I signed up for the training for the 5k to keep me motivated!! I am always looking for new friends to help keep me motivated and in turn I will help you!! I have functional problems on the left side of my body because of nerve damage, but Im going to keep pushing towards my goals!!!

Hi everyone! I'm Adrienne and I'm excited to be here. I've never been able to run. I attempted a rookie couch to 5k a while back, but only lasted one week and my ankle started hurting every time I began to jog. I'm thinking I'm not meant to run, but we'll see.

Hi,

I am Marlina from the UK. Happy to be in a running group for the first time. I managed to do the 5K last year and then I started training for 10K. But, due to exams, I stopped training altogether and lost my motivation. So, now I am back in square one.
I hope with the group's running timetable I can get back into shape.
I would be glad to get news of other people's progress and success stories.

Regards

Hi there. I think this is the third time joining this group. Each other time life got in the way or I got injured. I finished my first week and I'm loving it.

Every time I stop moving my feet I start gaining weight...I started running a few years back. I never really ran fast, but I just kept jogging faster until both feet were off the ground. The next thing I knew, I was running. I actually started to enjoy running becuase I looked and felt better. I recently moved to a hot climate which makes hard to run. Not long afterwards, I started gaining weight again. I started to run again today....and I need to keep running...

Have not actually jogged in years but love to walk/ jog outdoors plus treadmill workouts regularly. My shins are 'singing'...scheduled a buddy workout tomorrow.
Ps: Buddy missing today but I did my second week, first walk/ jog plus added 10 minutes brisk walk .

Hi team, my name is Pam. I joined a gym 9 months ago today. Since then I've lost 52 pounds. I'm used to walking for an hour or more at a time but don't jog, much less run. In January I started using a treadmill at the gym. At the time my max speed was 3.7. I've worked up to a 4.7 max. On Saturday I did week 1 workout 1 using 4.0 for the walking speed and 5.0 for the jogging speed. Still can't believe that I did it without collapsing. My heart rate maxed at 153, probably not ideal for a 60 year old. Tonight I'll do the second workout. Not sure that I can make it through the entire 5 week program but I won't know until I try.

Hi! My name is Candace and I just started the 5K training program, yesterday. I've been working on getting healthy (seriously) since January 28, 2015 including exercising 5-6 days a week. Yesterday, I introduced intermittent jogging to my treadmill routine and it felt great! Currently, I am planning on participating in my first ever 5K in September with another in November. I am excited even though my jogging pace is only 4.1 mph and my walking is only 3.0 mph...that will get better with time (I think that applies for all of us newbies!).

Hi - I'm Barb. I'm 65 and have completed two 5K walks in the past month. I'm proud of my accomplishments! Now I want to up my pace to jogging. My big question, is how is jogging different from walking? Physically, what does one do change the gait, angle, speed? I've never jogged before!!! I am still overweight. My walking pace is 3.3 mph. I don't know how to get into a jog. Any suggestions you have are very much appreciated!

Completed my first day of the 5 week to 5K program. Am returning to "running" after several months. I say running in quotation marks as I am 4'11" and most people can walk faster than I can run, but I don't run for them I run for me. :)

Hi all! 1st day of the 1st week of theWalk/Jog program. Been walking 5k for quite a while but want to run, or, at least combine running and walking so here I am! Did 2.9 miles this a.m with some jogging here and there so I didn't actually follow the exact plan but pretty close except went further. I'm praying my back can cooperate with this plan! emoticon

Hi. I'm Donna and live in central PA. I have been a member of SP for several years and also a member of TOPS, (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) since 2000. In January, I joined Planet Fitness and love the place. I get there on average 4 times/week. I joined this program not because I want to race a 5K, but because I feel like I need to "up my game" and think this is a good way to do it.

Hi I am Alice. I have lost 45 plus pounds in the last 5 years and kept it off. I have 15 pounds more to lose. I love strength training and do that 3 days a week. I also teach a senior exercise class Mon and Weds mornings. I have never done a 5K, but have always wanted to. Starting this program to help me meet that goal.

Hi, I have completed the 5k run programme in the past but my weight and knee and feet issues have put a stop to that. Trying to get back to it by starting with walking emoticon

Hi everyone. I joined this program for the support and guidance. In November I plan on completing a half-marathon. As of right now, I can barely run without getting winded. I need consistency and a good training program...thus the reason that I am here. My first goal is to finish this program and run for 5 minutes straight. Baby Steps :)

Hi, my name is Sarah. I have done a few 5Ks before but will be doing my first beginners triathlon in May in addition to several 5K races this spring/summer. I'm starting off really easy because my knees are in really bad shape so hopefully they will hold up or even get stronger.

Hi, I am Michelle. I am excited to be in this program. I have always wanted to run, but didnt think it was ever possible for ME. I am slow at it and its taking a lot of work, but I have no plans on quitting. It makes me feel so good! And I find that when I am not out working on the program, that I have such a ball of energy building... emoticon emoticon

Hi I'm Sandy :D.

I joined a walk and run group at work early in the year and 12 weeks later walked my first 5K race in March after that I wanted to run a 5K but kept putting off training for it and pushing the date back. Well there is less than 2 months left in the year so I picked a race happening in December and started training for it this week.

Call me Sandy. My goals are performing 50 regular push-ups in 1 minute, doing a 5 minute plank, being able to do a pull-up, run for 2 miles and and reaching 130 pounds.

Hi, I'm Sonya and I just rejoined Spark. I am 45 and have a goal to lose the last 24 LB that I'm hanging on to before I turn 46. I have actively been lifting weights (slowly but surely) for the last 6 months and along with fast paced walks but would like to increase my walks to jogs. I won't lie - I'm pretty nervous!! emoticon

Have a blessed day!

Hello all! I just turned 41, just had my 4th baby (in July) and I'd been thinking of doing one of these programs. I've also been reading a book called Eat Move Sleep (which I highly recommend!) and that helped kick me in the pants, so I finally decided today's the day! Well, tomorrow morning I will actually start, but I did do some walking today! My father-in-law is a runner so I've asked him to sign up for a run with me to keep me motivated!

I hot into run/walking over 10 years ago and lived it. I even completed a marathon in 2004. Then I had an injury, then I met my husband, got married, had 2 babies and the running got kicked to the curb. I'm back now. I've missed it and was looking to get back into it when I found this group. Perfect timing! I did my first day of week one yesterday and it felt good. It was hard, but I could do it. I've signed up for a turkey trot 5k and want to be able to run more of it than walk. Thanks for your encouragement everyone!!

Hi everyone!! I've always wanted to jog, but felt like I was too heavy to do so. I've finally realized that I can do anything, as long as I try. I've signed up for a 5k next month, and I am determined to walk/jog my way to the finish line.

Hi! I'm 53 and have completed a few 5k's in just under an hour. I've signed up for another 5k in exactly 5 weeks; however, this time I would like to jog instead of walking.

Hoping I can do better on my time!

Hi, I am 46 today! I have never ran for speed, but rather for distance. I have jogged 3+ miles but I have become over weight and out of shape over the last 7 years. So I joined this program to get myself back on track. Hoping to gain some strength and endurance during this challenge.

I am not exactly new to the forum, however this is one of my few posts. I was active when I Was younger, have worked out my whole entire life. As I have aged my body has become slower. So, instead of running, I am a jogger now, I have added a few lbs on since my 20s when I taught aerobic classes and ran daily. I entered my first 5K at 44, second at 45 and third at 46. Well now I am 57 and ran my fourth 5 K this past spring and did not train, I walked half that race and was so sore for days afterwards.

Saturday I will again participate in an 5 K, I did do a little training this time, run walking for 4 miles but still can't run the whole thing. I find I like to push myself. I take my music with me and run at my own pace. My daughter runs as well, but she is much faster than I am.

I don't want to be like many people I know, big, old and way too sedentary. Old before their time. I would prefer to continue jogging and exercising until the day I die!

Good luck this weekend everyone. Keep moving!

I have done 2 5k's before in the past few years. This time I really have been pushing myself to not just get through my run, but to get stronger and better at it. I have always been one of those people who envied runners. I just never thought I could possibly be one. But the more I get out there and do it, the more I am coming to realize that I am the only one who ever prevented me from succeeding at it. So I am determined not to self-sabotage. I have been going strong for a few weeks now and have a 5k I am participating in this Saturday with my mom (it will be her first) and I am really glad I am getting back on track. Here's to being a successful runner!

Hi y'all, my name is Sonja I am 50 and I just returned to Spark! I am hoping for success this time around..I have about 45 pounds to shed. I would really like to get this goal accomplished by my daughters wedding in April of 2015. I just finished my first week of training for the 5K Walk/Job program. I am very slow but persistent. I have to get the eating portion of getting healthy under control not that I eat a lot of junk food or unhealthy, I think I am overwhelmed on where to start with the eating portion. I need lots of help in this department. I am really excited about joining the 5k group. I have walked for the past 6 months consistently and feel it is time to step it up a notch. Thanks for letting me join!

Hello, all! emoticon
I'm Sharon, I just turned 45, and I haven't done ANY running since high school. And even that was the bare minimum that I could get away with in gym. emoticon
But I'd really like to change that, and this Program looks like the perfect way to do that!
I'm really looking forward to getting started. I plan on doing Day One on Monday.
Wish me luck, and good luck to all the other Newbies out there! emoticon

Hi!! I'm Shelly and I just rejoined Spark! I had an account a long time ago but didn't utilize it like I should've! I'm an 8th grade teacher and have about 30 pounds to lose. I'm trying not to focus on the scale too much... I just want to feel good and healthy!! I tend to do well for awhile and then once I have a hiccup it goes downhill from there..I love how Spark is community based and I look forward to interacting with all of you, keeping each other on track, and exchanging advice :)

So excited. I JUST (30 minutes ago) finished my first virtual 5K and the 5K Your Way Walking Program. I've walked farther and faster than I ever have been able to before. I did the last mile at 3.8 mph! I finished at 51:33! Now it's time to push harder. My goal is to eventually run a 5K in 30 minutes. I'll set my walk/jog goal in about week 3 or 4.

One step at a time, and each a little faster.

Hi, everyone. It's my first time trying the 5k program. I have been on and off on Sparkpeople for about 3yrs. In those years my back pain has decreased and I am able to run more than I had before joining Sparkpeople. In a few months I will run a 5k, so I want to practice before the main race.

@chunkynurse (nice username) it is good to meet you and all I can tell you is that you can do it if you decide to do it. I love the enthusiasm and excitement in you and if you go on in this spirit, I can tell you there is nothing you will not do.

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this team. I have never done a 5K before. So I decided to try this. I am trying to make healthier choices and lose weight. I am open to any advice or suggestions. I have never ran a 5K or even walked one in my life!!! I think this will be a great new start!! I'm excited!!

Hi, I am training for a 5K I will be doing in October and I was hoping that joining this team will keep me on track while I train. I have run in the past, but I haven't been running much in the past year, so I'm looking forward to successfully completing a 5K in 40 minutes or less. Hope you all meet your goals as well!

Hi my name is Michelle. Just joined a few days ago. I'm on the first week of training. I have to admit I'm a bit intimidated by this because I'm not very athletic, but I am excited to get out there and shake my thing which will help me get healthier and feel great.

I love boho gypsy style, animals, the outdoors, art and classic cars. I love vintage stuff. Yes I'm a complete geek and I am happy that way. Can't wait to see everyone's progress. Good luck! emoticon
