Yes, I know I need to learn how to post so that the links work. Thanks for doing that.

Did you see this?

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/27/us/27atheists.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

Atheists Seek Chaplain Role in the Military
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. In the military, there are more than 3,000 chaplains who minister to the spiritual and emotional needs of active duty troops, regardless of their faiths. The vast majority are Christians, a few are Jews or Muslims, one is a Buddhist. A Hindu, possibly even a Wiccan may join their ranks soon.

But an atheist?
Strange as it sounds, groups representing atheists and secular humanists are pushing for the appointment of one of their own to the chaplaincy, hoping to give voice to what they say is a large and largely underground population of nonbelievers in the military.

Popeye, can I copy what you've said and paste it on Facebook?

Of course I wouldn't mention the name Popeye. Darlene

I just follow them on-line, when I can.

My high school years were spent at Downey High School in Downey, CA. There were a significant number of JBS members in that area during the early 1960's. Actually, the general area of Bellflower, Downey, Whittier, Anaheim and Orange County was considered the main places for Conservatives to live with like minded people.

POPEYE: I read The New American, too ... love it. Are you a JBS member/subscriber or just read online? They've been predicting the mess we're in for at least 30 years and everyone thought they were "loony birds!" I think I may have recommended the book, The 5,000 Year Leap by Cleon Skousen ... he was a supporter of the John Birch Society when it was founded and worked on research for the above book for 50 years, starting in the 1930's! It's definitely one of the best books I've ever read. Glad you posted the New American article.

This has been going on for the past three years that I know. Army Chaplains were ordered to conduct "marriage" ceremonies between same-sex partners sometime ago (couple of years). The most recent violation of the First Amendment was informing all military chaplains they could make no reference to, nor use the name of, Jesus.

Obviously, since there is no "Jesus figure" in Islam, no one in their religion was at all upset.

The attack on Christianity in the military has been has been more and more blatant each succeeding year of the Obama administration.

BO's comments about religion undermining a unit's morale is specious at best. His knowledge of the military history of the United states certainly comes from a blind, warped direction.

I can provide direct testimony of the Judeo/Christian impact during the Vietnam War. The talks with my son about the impact the First Gulf War had on our troops freedom to practice the Christian would probably be declared as second-hand because he saw it and I didn't.

My Marine brother's testimony from combat Nicaragua also would be classified as second hand, but he reported no problems with being able to conduct services in Nicaragua, possibly because the enemy was also Christian.

I am not aware of a single incident in our military history where the practice of one's religion was detrimental to the good order of any sized unit.

As usual, Obama's diatribe is nothing but smoke and mirrors. Another effort to keep the American people off balance so he can destroy our Representative Democratic Republic and replace it with a Socialist Democracy.
