Hi everyone!

I'm jumping in here and going to give this a try. My son started running 5Ks a few years ago first as high school club charity event then he continued and lost 100 lbs. I always thought I was too old and unable to even begin to run. Well I'm not letting my own mind stop me from reaching my goal. The next big 5K in our area is in December and I want to at least give it a go. If not that, I just want to get up and move. But I know I can do this so here I go...

I just completed day 2 week 2 today. I Have never been a runner but a power walker and I find running so invigorating. Hard though. but it's coming. emoticon

Hi my name is Susan and I am 62 years young. I am a power walker but want to step it up to being able to run a 5K. My endurance for running so far has not been very good so I decided to join this program in hopes to be able to finally run a 5K.

Just joined this team today. I'm actually doing a 12 week weight loss challenge with my family. It will end the Sunday before Thanksgiving, and then on Thanksgiving morning, we are going to run in our city's 5K Turkey Trot race. So, I have a little longer than 8 weeks to get ready, but I think this program will also help with my weight loss challenge.

Hi my name is Diane. I started a run/walk program with First Strides back in January 2013 to mainly help with stress from my father's illness. Dealing with the death of my father, I became too gung ho with my running and had shin splits all the time. I ran through the physical pain to deal with my emotional pain. Then in September, a high ankle sprain stopped my running for six months. Looking back, my sprained ankle was a good thing. I started back up with a new run/walk program in March and once again I was hurt. So have I learned my lesson about taking things slow? I hope so... I started this 5K rookie program on Monday - while week1 day1 seems too easy. I will stay at this level all week, since I do not want to have any injuries. Slow and Steady is my new motto!

Hi, I have already completed my first 5K walk in April, but I want to decrease my time of 51:32. I have decided to start jogging and hope that by August 16th that I'm jogging more and walking less. My ultimate goal is to jog the complete 3.1miles.

I have lost 107 pounds thus far. I participate in 5k's walking. I am getting stronger, able to keep my pace and sprint to the finish line at the front of the walking pack. I cut my time by a half hour last Sunday and felt great. I've walked about 40-50 miles a week.

I am looking to start working on running so I can do running 5k's next year. I can run about .50 of a mile during my intense walking training.

Hi, my name is Angie! I saw this team and thought it would be a great way to ease myself into running (and exercise). I have never been a physically active person (I was the kid who volunteered to do paperwork instead of participating in gym class.)

I was always a very skinny person, so I didn't think I needed to exercise. Now, after having 3 kids, I wish I had gotten into a good routine then! Because after never being physically active, being 30 years old and heavier than you want to be, exercise is not an easy thing to pick up and enjoy. But I want to!

I'm hoping that this challenge motivates me to get moving more and to actually ENJOY exercising! :) I do not have a specific race that I'm training for, but I hope eventually I enjoy running enough to participate in one.

Hello, I am mostly a walker but I signed up to do my first dirty girl mud run in September with one of my friends and I have always wanted to start running but have trouble getting motivated. But running a 5k is on my bucket list of things to do and now that I graduated from nursing school yesterday my goal is to start working on my 5k. I have done one 5k last fall but I alternated between walking and jogging and I want to run the entire 5k and I am going to achieve that goal before the end of 2014!!! And I'm feeling very optimistic this time around!! emoticon

Hi! I haven't been exercising much lately but mostly I'm a walker. Usually (used to) walk at least 3 miles per day. And go to the gym.....

I have been wanting to run so bad! My head screams at me to run but my body definitely screams the opposite. I will run about 100 ft at a time when I walk the dog but can only do that a few times.
Hopefully this program will get me on the right track!

Hello fellow runners! Actually... I'm not a huge fan of running. I love the way I feel when I'm done, and the next day is even better. But the actual act of doing it? Not so fantastic. I've decided this summer instead of just going out and RUNNING I'm going to try to mix things up a bit. We live not too far from the local high school track, so I'd love to get out and do some sprints, and I'm also only 10-20 minutes from 2 great parks with a lot of hiking trails.

Before last summer I hadn't ran since my freshman year of high school. I'm turning 32 next week. But I signed up for the Warrior Dash with a couple of friends, and it was SO MUCH FUN!!! This year I want to train a little better, get out on those trails a little more, and overall just get more fit... and then find the motivation in myself to maintain that fitness over the cold months. That's my downfall.

So far this year I'm signed up to do the Color Run in just under 7 weeks (!!!) with my husband and soon to be 11 year old daughter. Then my husband and I, along with a couple of friends, will be doing the Warrior Dash again in July. We have a lot of local 5Ks throughout the summer and I'd like to sign up for one or 2 of those as well, but here is where I start! No more excuses, it's time to get out there and get running!

Hello everyone!

I just signed up for the 5K training program today. I am very excited and already finished my first day, even got my sister in law to join me in the training.

I am doing my first 5K in November and want to be ready.

I just recently started my weight loss journey a few weeks ago. So far I have 10 pounds and have 75 more to go. I believe that training for a 5K will help me to lose even more, and the actual 5K will be just wonderful.

I am really looking forward to the next 6 months of training I am planning to do!

I'm Shirah, and I used to walk around my neighborhood a few times a week -- up to an hour or two at a time. I've been interested in running/walking a 5K, and with this program I know I can do it. I started a couple of weeks ago, but with Passover and lots of company, I stopped. Now I'm starting up with week 1 again and have a goal of entering my first 5K run this summer! I live in Houston, and there are many races in the area each month.

I'm looking forward to running my 1st 5K race!

I am slow and overweight by a lot, but two years ago I ran my first marathon. I got sidelined not to long after that and never really picked up my shoes again. Now, I am back to training all over again. I am OK with that. I am starting slow and working my way up just like I did before. This time I have my eye on a Triathlon though! Look out world I am back!

Hello hello hello! I'm Liz, and I walk a lot, but I have never been a runner. I'd like that to change, and hopefully this will be the first step! I'm currently using a treadmill, though my goal is to run/walk/whatever outside once this Minnesotan snow goes away (which will probably be in May, if this year is anything like the last).

Nothing changes until you do.

Hi, I'm Krystle. I live in this beautiful place called Mt. Maunganui and my favourite exercise is walking to the top of the Mount (also call Mauao). I have started running down afterwards and being able to generate that much speed is exhilarating. So, I've set myself this challenge to be able to run 5k in 8 weeks time. I'm hoping it's going to be a great motivator for staying active and hopefully start a new trend in my life of running more.

Hi, my name is Diana and I have been walking/running intervals on the treadmill for a while now and would like to progress to running longer distances. So far I've run a mile at the farthest. I haven't done anything longer then 2 minute- intervals lately though so I need to build back up. It's hard because I've always run on a treadmill and I think running outside will be a transition. I will be using the tracker on Sparkpeople to map my route and we'll see how the weather goes here in NJ. Until then I will increase intervals according to the program on the treadmill and outside weather permitting. This program looks totally workable! Let's do this!!!

Hi my name is Brenda , Sasha (my dog) will be my running partner I hope, we will have to see how that works out. I am not now nor have I ever been a runner, while in the service I dreaded our mandatory annual (then bi-annual)1.5 mile run seriously I would have preferred someone to beat me with a stick rather than do that run. So why am I taking this challenge, as much as I hated running - I loved how I felt afterward (well after I recovered from the run - you know being able to breathe somewhat normally, not feeling like I was going to ...well you know). Plus I am hoping that this will help me a) take off the weight, b) reduce the stress, and c) give me a feeling of accomplishment - you know being able to say I did that. I am 52, general good health, and yes I am still a smoker.....so why not try this after all what do I have to lose other than weight, inches, stress.....and Sasha will benefit too

So I am about to leave the house, after I get my car unburied to head to the gym to start week one day 1. It should be just about right for my fitness level. I can do an hour of zumba (cardio dance) no problem. It might take me more than 8 weeks, as I am doing other cardio classes and also yoga and will occasionally feel I've earned a rest day.

A lifestyle change is still one day at a time.

Hi all! Today was my W1D1, happy to say I can still walk! I am a very " goal " oriented type of person & wanted to feel like I could see & track my progress, so it seemed like a C25K was the right type of action.
I am close to 42 and ready to look / feel still like 30!

Be the dandelion! Hardy, irrepressible and immune from others that think so lowly of them!
