Hi. I just learned about this program from another Sparker, (thanks Gaye)... and today I begin. I'm psyched, but plan to go more slowly than the official schedule. I'm calling this week "PRE-week one" since it looks like I have to get some things figured out. This morning I did only 2 stints of jogging. I'm using a stopwatch app on my phone that has the controls to close to the edge so I accidentally hit the "stop" two different times so that was goofed up, plus I will do this program walking my dog and I have to figure out how to do that, since she wants to stop and sniff. Most of my trail she can be off-leash, but if I happen upon other walkers, I have to quick put her on a leash and if that happens during the run part... oh dear... anyway, gotta get a better plan in place for that..

anyway... I'm glad to have found a program that looks like it ramps up slowly enough for where I'm at. (I like the FOUR minute walk in week 1... another program had only 1.5 minutes, and that seems too aggressive for me to start.

I'm looking forward to meeting other runners, other Sparkers, and hopefully work up to 5K.

Hi my name is Mike I joined as a way to help set fitness goals. Hope to do a Bike across Kansas next year so thought this would be a way to start getting in shape for that. Have not been a runner before but want to try.

I just completed the 5K Your Way Walk/Jog Program and I was pretty happy with my time on the last run--47.25.

This is the year I make my fitness comeback!

Hi. My name is Brian. I signed up for a 5K the end of May as part of a workplace wellness program. I'm not ready. When I counted the weeks to prepare and found I have nine weeks. I decided to just start over and join the rookie runners. My winter treadmill running program was a disaster.

I start week 1, day 1 this afternoon. Look forward to checking in.

Hi! My name is Ali and I've been with Sparkpeople for a little over a year. So far I've lost 126 lbs. and have already done three virtual 5K's. I have my first live 5K this coming Saturday. I figure I really need to start doing some serious training. I have another live 5K at the end of May and a virtual 4 miler at the end of June. After that I want to start working my way up to first a 10K and then a half marathon by this time next year.

I'm not training for a competition. I'm not trying to set a new record. I'm not trying to impress you. I'm saving my life!

Hello! I just joined this team tonight. My husband and I actually did day one of the 5 day program today .. 4 minute walks 1 minute jog X 5 which timed out to 1.5 miles at our pace which is just this side of turtle pace. As we actually have nine weeks until our first 5K I thought the eight week plan was probably better for us. We have been going to the YMCA since last May, and I struggle with the whole jogging thing. I find if I go much faster than that turtle pace I spoke of, I get very winded! This plan, at least for now, seems to work well for me.

Hello! I'm trying something new this month, committing to exercise. I am on the brink of 40 and I have to start treating my body better before it starts backfiring on me😊 I have never been a serious exerciser, maybe doing 1-2 workouts a week at my peak. I live in a very rural area and have decided my "country road" will be my own private gym. I am hoping to run a 5k in about 10 weeks. I have done 2 races in the past, mostly walked with a few sprints. I would really like to run this one. My goals are to get healthy- ward off any future health problems, and lose weight.

The first time I did this program was more than a year ago, a couple of months after I quit smoking. I ran regularly for about a year, and even managed a half marathon, but hurt myself in early January...and the physical therapist just gave me the go-ahead to start running again! I love this program, and I know it works! Really excited to do this with all of you!!

Hi all. I've never been a "runner." In fact, I have awful memories of middle school gym class where I could never make my mile run/walk time. I would run as hard and fast as I could until I had an asthma attack and would get sent to the nurse.

Not this time! I am finally overcoming my hatred of running. I'm following this program with the goal of running a 5K for charity in May (the same day that I graduate from college).

Hello everyone.
I'm 31 years old and just getting back into the running game after a 3 year hiatus due to injuries. Getting back down to my running weight-- have 21 more pounds to lose. Ran my first 5K already this year. Due for another race on 28 February. Not quiet ready but gonna do it anyway. I'm still struggling with knee problems but have a running brace and the knee gets better as the weight goes down.

No more trail or adventure running for me (That's how I got hurt). Getting to old for that stuff, but will eventually work up to a half or full marathon again. Looking forward to seeing you out at the races

Hi! I have always loved the idea of running, but the best I've been able to do was jog/walk a 5K. So I thought I needed some training here. Plus I had a couple illnesses/injuries in the past couple of years so I want to ease in.

Every year I walk the CIBC Run For The Cure in October, and this year I plan to run it with a good time. And I'd also like to do some fun runs before then.

Greetings! I am someone who has always wanted to run, but gave up way to soon. I have found my motivation through Spark people and all of the people I have met along the way. I started walking, but really wanted to run and now I will. I am 3 pounds away from my goal weight and want to try this again! Today went well !

Started tonight. Day 1, Week 1.

Tweaked it a bit. Instead of walk 4 minutes and jog 1 minute for 20 minutes, I walked 4 minutes and jogged 2 minutes for 30 minutes.

Gonna either keep it like that for the week (4 walk, 2 jog for 30 minutes) OR do 4 walk, 1 jog for 25 minutes.

Little by little, step by step, day by day.

Hello. I am newly back to Spark after a few year's absence. I started running with this program back in 2012. Since then I have run 5 half-marathons and countless 5Ks. Until starting this I had never been athletic, especially a runner. I just want to say that if I can do it anyone can do it and this group was a HUGE help.

I am just getting used to all the different things on all the teams. I was not aware of all the things that are going on. I did my training for walking with Spark and I did my marathon inside on my treadmill. I am doing a walking and jogging training program now. Congratulations Terri on your great accomplishments.

I never thought in a million years I would jog a 5K. I participated in my first 5K this past weekend and ended up jogging a lot of it so I decided I want to jog a whole one and my hubby has decided he wants to do it with me. I have had so many people tell me that I cannot jog but I turn their doubts into my fuel to prove them wrong! I am excited to get started on training for my first 5K!

Hey all ^_^. I started the program last week but didn't join the team for some reason. I don't know. Anyway I did WK 1 days 1 and days 2 about 2 weeks ago and then nothing because of holidays and plans interrupting my training so I decided to see if I could handle WK4 and it was tough (I wanted to die) but I've done days 1 and 2. Day 3 is planned for tomorrow.

I walked my first 5K back in March this year and after that wanted to run a 5K but I kept putting off training for it, always starting and stopping and never signing up for an actual race well running a 5K is on my bucketlist for this year and there is less than 2 months left in the year. I've picked a race, its December 14th.

Besides reaching my goal weight I also want to be stronger - build up my endurance and stamina and training to run is definitely doing that.

Sandy

Hello all! NEW here and hoping that I can 'morph' this 5k program into something I can do on my tread climber. I love the workout I get on the tread climber, I get on and in 30 minutes, I am drenched in sweat, feeling like I really get a good workout! My problem is keeping myself motivated and not making excuse after excuse! I even re-arranged my work schedule so that I can get off work at 4 and have an hour before having to pick my daughter up at 5 to get a good sweat on, so I'm not sure why I can't/don't/won't stick with it!!!

I'm 5'5" and have about 65 lbs to lose - just to be able to smile when I look in the mirror!!! I would love love love any and all support I can get on here. I'm still trying to figure out this whole SP website and get in a good routine where I'm on here every day. I think it will really help me and keep me on my schedule, headed in the right direction!

New here! (Also new to the forums and trying to figure them out...)

Trying to train for a Turkey Trot (I'm a week behind but I figure I'll do what I can).

I started training last month, then did an elliptical on a cross-training day and wound up with 2 weeks of foot pain on the edge of my arch/side of my foot which nixed all unnecessary walking/running. Now I'm back!

Hi everyone!

I'm jumping in here and going to give this a try. My son started running 5Ks a few years ago first as high school club charity event then he continued and lost 100 lbs. I always thought I was too old and unable to even begin to run. Well I'm not letting my own mind stop me from reaching my goal. The next big 5K in our area is in December and I want to at least give it a go. If not that, I just want to get up and move. But I know I can do this so here I go...

Hi my name is Susan and I am 62 years young. I am a power walker but want to step it up to being able to run a 5K. My endurance for running so far has not been very good so I decided to join this program in hopes to be able to finally run a 5K.

If successful at completing the program I will enter into a race once finished.

Just joined this team today. I'm actually doing a 12 week weight loss challenge with my family. It will end the Sunday before Thanksgiving, and then on Thanksgiving morning, we are going to run in our city's 5K Turkey Trot race. So, I have a little longer than 8 weeks to get ready, but I think this program will also help with my weight loss challenge.

Hello all! Just joined this program today. I am finding that the C25K program is a bit harder for me to complete so I am hoping this will be easier/better for me to follow.

Hi there! My name is Jenn and I am a new wannabe-runner just starting out at age 43.
I have already walked my first official 5k (and came in 1st in my age division) but want to train to RUN emoticon I have a great friend who lives nearby that has been my motivation to start doing races - she does 10k's and I so want to be able to run with her someday.

Glad to join this group and cheer everyone on emoticon

Show up - Do the work - Finish strong!

Hi my name is Diane. I started a run/walk program with First Strides back in January 2013 to mainly help with stress from my father's illness. Dealing with the death of my father, I became too gung ho with my running and had shin splits all the time. I ran through the physical pain to deal with my emotional pain. Then in September, a high ankle sprain stopped my running for six months. Looking back, my sprained ankle was a good thing. I started back up with a new run/walk program in March and once again I was hurt. So have I learned my lesson about taking things slow? I hope so... I started this 5K rookie program on Monday - while week1 day1 seems too easy. I will stay at this level all week, since I do not want to have any injuries. Slow and Steady is my new motto!

Hi, I have already completed my first 5K walk in April, but I want to decrease my time of 51:32. I have decided to start jogging and hope that by August 16th that I'm jogging more and walking less. My ultimate goal is to jog the complete 3.1miles.

I have lost 107 pounds thus far. I participate in 5k's walking. I am getting stronger, able to keep my pace and sprint to the finish line at the front of the walking pack. I cut my time by a half hour last Sunday and felt great. I've walked about 40-50 miles a week.

I am looking to start working on running so I can do running 5k's next year. I can run about .50 of a mile during my intense walking training.

My name is John. I will be 41 in a week and work as a firefighter. Our shift has begun doing yoga together in the morning and working out together in the afternoon. I joined the 5K Rookie program because running has been something I've always despised. I've been working on changing my mindset about it, so this program is my motivation to do that.

Hi, my name is Angie! I saw this team and thought it would be a great way to ease myself into running (and exercise). I have never been a physically active person (I was the kid who volunteered to do paperwork instead of participating in gym class.)

I was always a very skinny person, so I didn't think I needed to exercise. Now, after having 3 kids, I wish I had gotten into a good routine then! Because after never being physically active, being 30 years old and heavier than you want to be, exercise is not an easy thing to pick up and enjoy. But I want to!

I'm hoping that this challenge motivates me to get moving more and to actually ENJOY exercising! :) I do not have a specific race that I'm training for, but I hope eventually I enjoy running enough to participate in one.

Wishing all the people committed to this program the very best, I hope you reach your goals!
