Starting a walking program is a wonderful way to get moving and get losing. Plus it's a great mood lifter, too. Congratulations on doing so well on your 5K!

The only difference between 'try' and 'triumph' is a little 'umph'!

MissySimpson, congrats on making the choice to be a better you. And congratulations on completing your first 5K! I'm going to be doing that in a couple of weeks. Had a setback in the fourth week of training when my left calf came up lame and I'm waiting for the muscle to relax enough for me to continue my training. So I'll be completing my first 5K as soon as I have my walking leg back again. I'm up to 2.5 miles and have to finish that and then it's on to the 2.75 miles and then my walk. So close I can taste it but I have to nurse this leg back to a walking state. :)

Congrats my dear. You have achieved a huge milestone in your trip to a NEW YOU! ;)

Welcome to the Team! Sounds like you're well on your way into walking already.

Your goal to improve your family's eating habits is wonderful--whenever you feel low, hug those little ones and think what a gift for a lifetime you'll be giving them.

It doesn't happen overnight, but you CAN transform your junk food cravings into healthier ones. I had a horrible time "eating down my unhealthy pantry" when I first joined Sparks, but now there are no Doritos left to tempt me, ice cream's been replaced with frozen yogurt (and it's pretty good stuff, I was surprised!), and the eternal tubs of sour cream are now tubs of homemade yogurt.

Baby steps will get you where you want to end up. Giant leaps tend to trip you up. So take it slow, make it deliberate, and keep your end goals in mind!

I am a 30 year old working mother of two boys ages 3 and about to be a year. My husband of four years works shift work and I find myself alone with the kids a lot. I have been struggling with depression for a while now and am an emotional eater. I want to be a great example for my boys of how to live life and not what not to do. I desire to make us all a family that is active and healthy eaters. I am learning each day, but can not seem to break the habit of eating junk and just eating for every reason under then sun then being hungry. Last Saturday I did acheive a goal of completing a 5K and inpsite of my arthirits, I did it an hour and 7 minutes. That was a great feeling and I can not wait to start accomplishing more.
