Welcome. Walking is one exercise we can do all our lives. I have a neighbor who walked 1 mile every day until just before his 100th birthday. He passed away in his sleep just days before his 100th so he was 99 but spry and healthy.
You can walk at any age. Remember to breathe, concentrate on technique at least some of the walk, find places you enjoy walking, have good shoes and replace them regularly (every 300-500 miles) and enjoy your surroundings. I have walked in some very interesting places and a lot of miles in my small town. Both have their place but I walk for enjoyment as much as for health so I don't worry as much about my speed as I might otherwise.

I 'm Alan, a male for 65 years and 74" height for the past 40+ years, and then: Feb 29th. was 299 # ( and spare change ) ! ! ! Apr 30th, was 279 # ( even or flat ). Jun 30th. was 259 # ( minus small change ). Jul 31st. was 252 # ( and have remained there ever since ! ! ! )
Had been immobile ... finally got out and about some. Cleaned-up my nutritional intake. By and by I cleaned-up my calorie output by doing some walking . . . and that brought me here to SparkPeople, then to SparkTeams and 5K.
I am interested in improving my walking program and maintaining it as my primary or base aerobic and physical conditioning/maintainence program.
I have joined you folks and this team to help me learn things that will help me some on this life-style change and journey. Thank you all very much.
