I'm doing my first 5k as a training tool for an 18 mile fundraiser walk next month for suicide prevention. It seemed like a Nami Walk is a perfect lead up as they are both raising money for mental health.

I have signed up for the virtual 5k walk. I have been procrastinating the last few days because it has gotten so cold here now. I wish i still lived so close to the gym. I am going to have to get some of those masks people with asthma wear because the other night when it first got cold i walked and when i got home i had an asthma attack like never before and it scared the crap out of me. It was like the cold air just froze my lungs right up and i couldn't inhale. :(
I gotta figure something out fast. I want to get this walk done.

I’ve signed up for a local 5K & 1 mile walk at work for this Saturday, Sept. 25, 2013. It’s called Taylor’s Run to raise money for a young mother that was injured in a four-wheeler accident. I’m worried because I had signed up for the 1 mile walk, but everyone at work talked me changing it to the 5K. We aren’t trying to win or have fast times…..just finish. The thing is I haven’t trained at all. I had been walking 15 minutes a day with some stairs, but our offices moved and I haven’t walk in over a month. I’m wondering if I should just try to do the 1 mile or is it possible to do a 5K without training. Has anyone walked a 5K without training first?

On the same page where you track the goals each week. On the Week 1 or Week 2 Discussion forum, in the description there is a red link to your “Training Planner”. Click on that, then scroll down to the bottom of the page. There is a button, “Ready to Race?” Click on that, then select the week that you want to do the 5K. I think there is an additional option to choose the type of race you want to do. I can’t check that out because I’ve already joined that race.

I started yesterday. Got the Wii set up and did mile + on there. I checked off on the 5KmyWay tracker on line and keep the more complex one on my desk top. About to do my "off day" training right now. Think I'll warm up w/TaiChi and do a 15 elliptical. emoticon BBL

I'm rethinking the signing up for an official walk. To fit the 5 week time frame I'd have to commit some of my unemployment funds ($190/wk) to enroll AND travel over 1.5 hr one way in Wisconsin weather. I DO have a new 5K buddy, JUSTLIVE2DAY. I've prepped yesterday and today and we're starting tomorrow! Now I'm more excited emoticon I'll post how it goes. I'm using the 5KYourWay sheet but haven't figured out the online sharing of it yet.

I signed up for the March 9-16 virtual race! Perfect, like SP knew I'd be a "realworld" drop out only , LOL the results will be the same :)
