Hello Everyone! I found this team and I do a lot of walking so I figure I can get some more motivation from everyone here. I have been falling off track the last couple of days so I'm just trying to get back to it. So far I've lost 15.7 lbs and really want to stay with it...

Don't give up just because of what someone said. Use that as motivation to push harder.

Hi! Ugh, I have sooo been there on the fast food front. What I've noticed, though, is how the "food" doesn't even taste like food anymore! And the inevitable trip on the shame spiral makes it all so much less than satisfying. I agree that it's difficult to "train" our significant others that we've changed and don't want the same old awful foods we once enjoyed. Sometimes, I find that just talking through a bad craving, receiving unconditional support helps to curb it. Anyway, HI! I'm Sarah! Have a wonderful day!

Yesterday I recommitted to walking more and sitting in front of my computer less. I ended up walking for 61 minutes and dang proud for doing it.

On another note... I ate a take-out meal that was totally full of grease because I was too hungry to just say no. I told dh not to bring that home for me anymore because of all the grease AND I will make sure never to get that hungry again... remembering that I can't "outwalk" my fork. Good luck everyone!

Your meals are medicine. Food is information. It dynamically and intricately instructs your biochemistry and genetics and in turn, your health.

Um, hi! My name is Sarah, and this is the second time I've been a Spark People member. I was trying to make healthy choices on my own, but missed my Spark People experience. I was so happy to see that it still exists! I'm 51, and embracing a less-hectic-calmer approach to getting healthy this time. So far, it feels so much better! I've thought about walking a 5K for years, and decided that this would be a good place to start! I have a pretty painful bone spur, but have gotten orthotics (still trying to get used to them), and I do walk, even though it still hurts. I'm not going to let the bone spur be an excuse! Anyway, I'm probably doing this wrong, but I decided that "done is better than perfect" today! Have a great weekend, everybody! :)

Hi I am Barbara from Kentucky. I will be 60 in April and just want to get heathier. I walk a lot and wear my fitbit . I have a treadmill and sometimes can go 20-30 minutes on it. That is on a good day. I have fibromyalgia and my 89 year old mother lives with us. I am her caretaker. My DH is disabled but helps with what he can. I am looking forward to this challenge.

Hello, my name is Susan. I need to kick start my weight-loss program so I join this team (yesterday) in hopes of getting and keeping my motivation to lose weight. Although, I walk daily (I wear a Fitbit Tracker) I average about 10,000 steps per day (I’m also on the Fitbit team) I still struggle with losing weight, I have really poor eating habits, and I enjoy Rum & Coke (smile) too much. I believe this is a 21 days Challenge? I am not sure, if you have to participate in a 5K walk/run program?

Hi, Everyone - I've just rejoined SP after about 4 years 'off'. I am semi-retired now and realize I want to make fitness a priority. I like several fitness activities including yoga/pilates and 'ballwork', dancing, etc. but walking is so simple and convenient it is the foundation of fitness for me. I also walk my dog which makes it even more fun AND sustainable (she'll remind me to walk her even if I feel like slouching... oh - and my name is Culli and I live in Pa.

Hi, So glad to have found this Challenge. I have been trying to keep track of my steps with walking indoors and out . So far I have averaged 8--10k steps a day but my goal is to average 10-20k a day. Love walking. It is my favorite exercise especially outdoors in nature when the weather permits otherwise I do my walking dvd's. Anything I can do I will do to get my steps in. I also love doing the virtual walks because I am a stay at home mom and barely get out of the house let alone the state. Keeps me motivated .

Hi! I finished yesterday the 21 day new members challenge, as a "warm-up", and immediately began with this one. I'm on my second day and very excited adding strength training for the "cross-fit". May God help us in reaching our fitness healthy goals!

hi my name is anne and I am a teacher's aide. I am new to this group as I was looking for something different. I love walking but don't do enough of it. I have a treadmill at home and go to the gym but this year I am not sure what is happening but I really cannot get into it and I make up a lot of excuses but I am hoping this will get me to snap out of the rut I am in.

Welcome girls - these challenges seem more of an individual effort than close longterm teams but I want to encourage you and will be watching for your comments and interaction in the week's threads.

I am one week away from my special therapeutic 5K Walk with 2 canes - Learning to walk again, gain strength and have very little feeling in my feet after spinal surgery last Dec. Bit I think I can do this!!! emoticon emoticon

New to this team. Have had a few motivational set backs recently. But I have made myself a promise that in 2018 I will do a RunDisney 5K. To that end, I have to start somewhere, so here I am.

I am new today but, have been on SP since July, 2011. I love the challenges because it causes me to focus on an area of fitness. I love walking but sometimes have trouble with a knee which will always be a problem. Surgery was good for a couple of years and I have exercised according to physician's plan. Most days I can get the 10,000 steps in. I wear a Fitbit tracker and it keeps me motivated to get my steps in.

Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Phil 2:3-4.

Joined this challenge yesterday. My name is Charlotte and I am a full time RVer. My husband and I do contract gate house work for the USACE from March to September. Will be 72 this year. Suffer from Avascular Necrosis in both hips but fight the urge to "sit" by walking daily.
Love a challenge to keep me going. My Fitbit goal is 5,000 steps per day but most days, I exceed that number.

On my way.

Good Morning. I am a fulltime homeschooling mom to 3 children. I am also a part time night shift RN at our community hospital. My workout and nutrition habits are sporadic to say the least.

My 11 year old son told me that he would like to do a 5K run/walk. This surprised me because he does not usually like to do anything physical. He has put on quite a few pound in the last six months. I have been wanting to do one also and this gave me the push to get it done. So he and I are doing a 5k on May 14. I'm praying that I can keep him motivated as well as myself.

I related to several of your intro comments - I'm 67 - I need to loose some weight and have set a goal of walking a 5k by June1, 2016
I had a back surgery on Dec 1 and woke with no feeling or movement in my right leg - was in hospital for 18 days learning to navigate with walker and having some feeling return but in the form of horrible cramps - but started with full body walker and progressed to regular walker when I came home and my dear husband presented with my recuperation buddy, a 2.8# YORKIE PUPPY!!! With in-home care and physical therapy I gradually progressed to stability, free use of walker and began training with a cane on Feb 1. March one I parked the walker and use two canes when out of home and one cane in the house...then slow walking with no cane...Right leg still feels like it is asleep from the knee down but progressing to rapid walking with two canes. I feel I need to restart this team because I am learning how it works - but still have my goal set to do a walking-with-canes-5K around our high school track.

hi, been an active sparkler since 9/11/15 dropped 49.5 pounds but can't seam to get the last .5 lb off the make it under 300. So I was looking at the idea of races to train for far in the future like July or August and then I saw one for the Rape Crisis center where my Friend works and I know how much good they do so I decided I'd do it. Only problem its next month and i still have only managed 2 miles at a time.

Hello! I have signed up for my first 5K walk in April. I am a 55yo grandmother that loves children and recognized a couple years ago that if I didn't get in better health I wouldn't be able to enjoy my family like I wanted. So in March 2014 I had Bariatric surgery and have lost 130 pounds since then. Now I am trying to get those last 30-40 pounds off and continue to reinforce a healthier lifestyle by following Weight Watchers smart points plan.
I'm looking forward to finding and giving encouragement through this group.

Hi - I'm Michelle, pushing my 60th birthday (middle of this month). It was time. Time to reevaluate my life. Time to get healthy. Time to lose weight. Time to get off my couch and do something for me. So baby steps, and forward momentum, and a special puppy to keep me going. This program is my next step towards these goals.

๐Ÿ‘‹ my name is Edith, I apologize to the leaders, I joined the Rookie Team on Saturday in error, was directed to this one today. Although feeling like a
rookie, and performing like one, I am needing to work myself into a 5K. Would like to do the Color Run with my family this year. emoticon

I am struggling with severe osteoporosis. I know I need to get going in a bad way in order to use all the foods and bone vitamins I have been taking. Seems kind of silly to be putting this stuff in me and not exercise... I am really eating well these days... now I just need to be exercising well!!!! Hot Dog! Gotta house full of teens and a 21yo, a fat cat (it isn't his fault though) and a hubbie who loves me (something to be so thankful for, indeed!) I am going to give this a go for the third time

Hello My name is Valerie I have decided today that I want to start to run. I have a lot of weight to lose and I never liked running. I heard my supervisor say that she ran a race last week across a bridge and she said that feeling is serenity. I was like Wow I want that feeling. I want to be healthy, I want goals, I want a new me, I want to stay on track so I think running will help me find me. I am going to start walking first. I am also going to sign up for my kind of first 5k I did one before for breast cancer but this is going to be my first official healthy me 5k. I am signing up for a commitment day 5k for January 1,2016. Well let my journey begin.

Good morning, I'm Bonnie and I just joined my first 5k. Very excited! I walk at least 10k steps a day with my job and decided I'd give this a try...something different to bring some fun and motivation back into my routine.

Good morning. I joined yesterday with the bucket list goal of walking then running a 5k. I have been doing the treadmill several times a week around 45 mins. I am hoping this plan will move me closer to my 5k goals. I have so much fear but know I have to get over that. I think this is just what I need. Have a great day everyone. emoticon emoticon

Hi everyone. I just walked a 5K yesterday, and was the last one in, at a time of 1:20. I made it - but my feet are aching so much today I'm barely hobbling around. So I need to build up before I do another one.

Hi folks! I'm Jayne. I had been walking over 5K everyday this Spring & Summer till I guess I had really over-trained and I hurt instead of enjoying my walks towards end. I had to quit as just making my walks shorter wasn't working. I have started over and did the Walk You Way 30 day challenge and am back to a safe 40 minute walk ( a little over 1.5 mile for me). Want to work back up to the 5K safely and be sure I am incorporating proper ST sessions throughout! Glad to be here!

Hi Everyone... I am Toni, 51, Married almost 31 years to my high school sweetheart and best friend ever, we have 2 grown boys and 3 furbabies..

2 years ago in Oct. i did my first 5k ever, it was a virtual for Breast cancer awareness and it got me hooked on the whole virtual thing because well Bling is awesome emoticon I had never really been able to walk more than 1 mile if even that but i found this race and told my self this was the year i would do this. I had been saying for years i would do one of the walks in my town for awareness but large crowds freak me out so i never did them.. anyway.. life happened and due to a flare up of a long term illness wasn't able to walk much.. But here I am slowly getting back on track, trying to strengthen a weak calf and ready to start walking again... I either walk the treadmill or when weather permits and i can walk longer periods of time I walk the Greenway in my town which luckily is just maybe 50 yards from my house..

I am looking forward to walking with you all and making some new friends.. emoticon

hugs
Toni
