It just could be that you did too much, but keep an eye on it in case it isn't. You don't want to injure anything and be layed up for months. Enjoy.

Thanks for the info. I have recently started aerobics in the pool and love it. I used Dr. Ho's tens machine on my knee and it worked! Wondering if I am blaming this on my arthritis and it is just that I overdid it! emoticon

I USED TYLENOL 2'S, TYLENOL ARTHRITIS AND CELEBREX AND THEY WORKED PRETTY GOOD. SINCE I HAVE HAD MY KNEES DONE I HAVE WEENED MYSELF OFF OF THE TYLENOL'S AND ONLY TAKE 1 CELEBREX EACH MORNING. HOPE YOU FIND SOMETHING TO HELP YOU. THE POOL IDEA THAT WAS MENTIONED DOES RELEIVE ALOT OF PAIN ALSO.

JLKCANADA - - Have you checked out the chair exercises in the Video & Article Section? They have some great ones there. Also, if you have access to a pool, exercising in the pool is able to take a lot of pain out of the exercising as well and offers more resistance than exercising on land. A few minutes in the hot tub will also be beneficial.

Advil gel caps are the only thing that work for me and usually fast. I agree with you that they are not the best to take but not sleeping due to pain isn't either. When I was in the US I bought something called "Stop Pain". It is a roll on that really does stop the pain for a short period of time.
I too wish there were some supplements so we could stay away from the NSADS and Advil. As far as exercise is concerned there must be a way to manage without causing pain and having to take these drugs. Unfortunately I haven't found the solution yet.
Good luck!

Welcome to the team. I too have had two knee replacements due to osteoarthritis. I also have it in my feet and hands. Periodically I take Tylenol Arthritis. Chair exercises sound good as well as exercising in a pool. Keep moving if you can.

JLK - - - Welcome to Spark People. We're all here in this group for the same reason - - to learn how to get healthier and to get our life back in control. I have had two total knee replacements due to arthritis, almost totally reconstructed feet and ankles, have arthritis in my hands, entire spine as well as a rotator cuff repair in December. I definitely know where you're coming from!!! My husband has both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis - he is on a medication for the rheumatoid but it's not working enough so he's added TART CHERRY JUICE (it has to be the TART brand) 1-2 times a day (8 ounces each time) and has had some fairly good results from it. Others here in our mobile home park are also on that with the same results. It's worth a try!!

If you go to the Videos and Articles Section you will find some videos that you can do in a chair along with other exercises. Also, if you have the use of a pool you can do exercises in their which is pretty good for arthritis also.

As you lose weight, I think you will find that the pain will lessen somewhat; maybe never go away but we will settle for less pain anyway. Don't be afraid to take the Advil - -it's better than being in such severe pain and it should help you sleep at night also which is very important. Your body needs 8 hours of sleep each night in order to rejuvenate itself and give you more energy which will help you to lose your weight also.

Set some small goals for yourself such as 10% of your goal weight NOT the entire amount of weight or you are apt to become discouraged and we don't want that. Don't try to be perfect because none of us are. Don't be hard on yourself when you mess up from time to time. Take one day at a time and one step at a time.

Track your food and exercise each day, drink your water or other calorie free liquids as well.

We are here for YOU, to help you in whatever way we can and to encourage you and others along the way. YOU ARE WORTH IT!!! emoticon and together emoticon .

Have fun and enjoy your journey.

I have spend a lot of money and tried a lot of different supplements that supposedly help with arthritis pain which also gets worse for me when I exercise. A few include boswellia, tart cherry extract, glucosamine & chrondroitin sulfate, fish oil. SAMe and combination products, none of which helped with the pain. I will continue taking glucosamine & chrondroitin sulfate as my physical therapist said it can help preserve cartlilage even if it doesn't help with the pain.
I really wanted to find a supplements to stay away from Advil and other NSIDS which can pose potential cardiovascular concerns. However the pain from exercising was just too much. To deal with it I have started taking one 250 mg tablet after breakfast and one after dinner. They don't totally eliminate the pain but take the edge off it.

I am considering trying MSM. But if it doesn't help I may just save my money and stick with Advil. It has gotten discouraging to have tried so many things to no avail. It will be interesting to hear from others on what works or doesn't work for them.

Hi everyone:
I have Osteoarthritis in my hands, feet and a bit in my spine, and knees. Every time I have started an exercise program I have had to give it up due to pain. I am taking it very easy this time but will not settle for defeat due to pain.
I have very rarely taken medication (i.e. Advil) for my pain but with more physical activity I find it sometimes hard to sleep due to my aches and pains. My doctor said it would not hurt me to take an Advil occasionally so when my exercise pain gets bad I am going to take Advil. Does anyone have any other suggestions. Thanks!
JLK
