JLK - - - Welcome to Spark People. We're all here in this group for the same reason - - to learn how to get healthier and to get our life back in control. I have had two total knee replacements due to arthritis, almost totally reconstructed feet and ankles, have arthritis in my hands, entire spine as well as a rotator cuff repair in December. I definitely know where you're coming from!!! My husband has both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis - he is on a medication for the rheumatoid but it's not working enough so he's added TART CHERRY JUICE (it has to be the TART brand) 1-2 times a day (8 ounces each time) and has had some fairly good results from it. Others here in our mobile home park are also on that with the same results. It's worth a try!!
If you go to the Videos and Articles Section you will find some videos that you can do in a chair along with other exercises. Also, if you have the use of a pool you can do exercises in their which is pretty good for arthritis also.
As you lose weight, I think you will find that the pain will lessen somewhat; maybe never go away but we will settle for less pain anyway. Don't be afraid to take the Advil - -it's better than being in such severe pain and it should help you sleep at night also which is very important. Your body needs 8 hours of sleep each night in order to rejuvenate itself and give you more energy which will help you to lose your weight also.
Set some small goals for yourself such as 10% of your goal weight NOT the entire amount of weight or you are apt to become discouraged and we don't want that. Don't try to be perfect because none of us are. Don't be hard on yourself when you mess up from time to time. Take one day at a time and one step at a time.
Track your food and exercise each day, drink your water or other calorie free liquids as well.
