JoAnne - Thanks. I had tried the Epsom Salts once but didn't see any difference. I'll have to keep trying it.

JUDSTERF TRY SOAKING YOUR FOOT IN EPSOM SALTS AND HOT WATER OR MAKE A POLTUS OF EPSOM SALTS AND GLYSERIN AND PUT A BANDAGE ON IT. WHEN I HAD A MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT I BURNED A HOLE IN THE SIDE OF MY FOOT BESIDE THE BIG TOE AND HAD GRAVEL STUCK IN THE HOLE IN MY FOOT CAUSED BY THE EXHAUST PIPE THATS WHAT I HAD TO DO THREE TIMES A DAY TO GET THE INFECTION AND GRAVEL OUT. IT DRAWS IT OUT AND WORKS FAST.

Judy Well I have the same problems intestinally. They just don't work as they should and I also have to take stool softeners. Sometimes I have to use Duco-lax which is what my Dr told me to use. Gp makes everything move very slowly thru and Fiber tends to bulk one up so it causes stoppage. I have no probs watching my carbs, generally don't eat enough of them, but I do get too much fiber! Lots in raw veges and fruits and in brown rice and whole grain bread and Oatmeal. If you are needing fiber check out the Mediterrean diet style. Its how I eat naturally but of course that makes it a sure fire cinch that its the wrong thing for me to do. Lol

Hi Ikacey!! You have come such a long way! Keep up the good work. Slow and easy wins the race as they say. I have the opposite problem of you when it comes to fruit and vegetables. My intestines don't work very well so I'm actually supposed to be eating lots of fruits and veggies to keep my intestines working the way they were intended to work yet I have trouble getting enough fiber intake without a lot of carb intake. Six of one and half a dozen of another!!! I do take 2-3 stool softeners a day and yet I still have trouble - - even with my walking included.

Right now I have a small infection in my big toe where they took off the two ingrown toe nails. I used a lot of peroxide last night as well as a prescription antibiotic cream and then did the same again today - - looks a little bit better today but still some redness and soreness in the area. I will be doing the same treatment again tonight. If it's not better by tomorrow then I'll have to call the dr to find out what type of medication he wants me on and then head across the border to MX to get the medication if I don't have it on hand here at the house.

Keep up the good work everyone!!

Judy

Hi Carrie! emoticon emoticon to the team. Many of us on here have multiple conditions. I have arthritis and Diabetes 2 and Gastro paresis, both of which are digestive conditions. I'm also houseboudn and wheelchairbound though not so much anymore. I walk the same tightwire you do. I am supposed to eat fiber and veggies to help with losing weight and controlling my BS level, but on the other hand I am supposed to avoid raw veggies and fiber because of the digestive GP I want to exercise and get healthier yet I am an amputee on my left leg and the arthritis hurts when I over do it. But I'm learning. I'm nowhere near perfect - in fact had an off the wagon day today. But I started at 360lbs and unable to get out of a chair or walk or stand or anything. You can do it too. It takes schooling yourself to small steps and patience, and yet never stop moving forward. I eat what I must, but I have researched and found ways to modify what I intake. I lose some fiber and feel a little hungrier by cooking and blending my veg, but I still get the nutrients I need and the food control I need to eat healthier and keep my body and its conditions healthier. I started walking ten steps with canes and help, and just doing small amounts of movements to move my legs and arms and get some motion into my joints which hurt and felt uncomfortable, even painful, but I found that as I exercised I was in less pain and could add a few extra steps and a chair exercise then a chair dancing video.etc. Now I walk a block, indoors on the flat twice a day and I do nearly an hours exercise with a break between workouts. Today i realized that while I still can't stand for more than two minutes if I am standing in one place I can move, slowly and gently for up to 20 minutes. So learning why I can't stand in on place and changing that is my next challenge. I hope the good suggestions and the caring given here from us all will keep you coming back. Sp has done studies that prove that people who post and track lose weight faster and keep it off!

Hi and welcome to Spark People. Lots of health problems I very familiar with as are a lot of us in this program. I have osteoarthritis throughout my entire body as well as diabetes, both knees have been redone as well as both feet and ankles. I constantly fight with intestinal problems and have had many surgeries already and more to come. I eat high fiber but still have problems with severe constipation. Other than yesterday, I have been walking around our park (roughly 1 mile) twice a day with our puppies and my hubby. I can't do the walk by myself as my balance is not the best. I am fighting small tears in the spaces between my vertebrae as well as a pinched and swollen nerve in my low back. All this walking is something that I couldn't do before my new knees, ankles and feet. I have also lost approximately 25# since the middle of May. 2012. I'm not saying it's easy, but it's definitely worth the effort to lose the weight and to begin walking. I started out walking to the end of my carport, then progressed to the end of our mobile home lot (20 ft in one direction) and then back again. I then did that 20 ft in each direction twice a day. Each time I went out I tried doing one additional lot (40ft) in one direction and so on and so forth. Just remember though, when you go 40 ft in one direction, you also have to come back 40 ft to get to where you started. Baby steps is what it takes. You don't have to start out walking a mile or even around the block. Start small and make that an accomplishment. Make it one of your goals. It's not how far you have yet to go, but how far you've already come. It's the same way with losing weight. It's not how many pounds you have yet to lose, but how many pounds you've already lost - - that's what makes the difference; it's that that helps to keep you going, pressing on!!!

I would say you have quite a motivation to get you going - - that of being able to start a family. Then the motivation of being healthy enough to be around for your family as well as for yourself.

To start with, set small goals for yourself such as maybe increasing your water, coffee tea or whatever calorie-free drink you might like from 3 glasses a day to 5 glasses a day etc. Or, maybe starting out by eating one healthy meal every day and then 2 healthy meals etc. Start out small so you don't get discouraged and can see your daily accomplishments. Another small goal might be to track your nutrition one meal a day etc etc.

The older you get and the longer you are overweight, the harder it is to retrain yourself to eat healthy and to be active. YOU ARE WORTH THE EFFORT!!!!!!!

If you have any questions or you feel you need to vent about something or need some advice, recipies, or whatever - don't be afraid or embarrassed to ask for help. We are all here to help one another in anyway we can. REMEMBER - - you are not in this alone. We are here for you!!

Have fun and enjoy your Spark journey!!

emoticon You didn't say where your arthritis is. From what you have said I'm going to guessing knees and ankle. Make sure your DR is ok with it, but I would recommend stating with chair exercises. If you can walk, use a cane or staff. Remember concrete is the hardest surface to walk on and will cause the most pain. Packed dirt is the easiest to walk on. If you have a high school walking the track is a good soft surface. A good start is to walk 5 min turn around and walk back. A 10 min walk, when you can do 10 min ok start increasing your time.

Hi - I'm somewhat sporadic about using the web for my weight loss. I know that having a community to help is supposed to make this easier, but to be honest, checking in every day always seemed like a chore to me. So I guess that's why I haven't been on the Spark website in about 5 years. I figured I was getting the emails and that was enough. But it clearly wasn't. It's not that I haven't lost weight in that time - I've actually gained weight. So much that my doctor said I had to lose about 40 lbs if I want to be able to have a baby. Well that did it - I am not going to let my laziness keep me from having a family. If I can't have a baby because of something I can't control, that's one thing. But I can control being fat. So I'm back! This may be too much information for a first post, but I figured I might as well get my situation (and motivation) out there right from the start.

I'm in Hampton Roads, but I'm not from here, so I don't really know people except through my husband. And all of them are like I used to be - healthy and not worried about losing weight. I was like them for so long I guess I don't really know how to be overweight, and therefore how to stop being overweight. Plus I have so many health issues that I've started using them as an excuse - "I CAN'T exercise - it'll hurt my arthritis" or "I can't eat differently - I have stomach issues and allergies." Stupid right? But it's not so easy to change.

Well, that's me. So...Hi?
