Welcome Carol. I've had osteo in many places (hands, neck, hips, and disintegrating vertebra in my lower back. The best thing that came down the tube for me was Celebrex. I had to quit taking it for a week before my eye surgery and I definitely remembered why I was taking it.

I agree with the lady who said to see your doctor and find out what you really have. By your description it could be osteo, or fibro, or even a cracked vertebra. I would think that an MRI would be in order to find out what's really going on.

Good luck in your journey.

I have osteoarthritis throughout my spine as well as the rest of me. I also have fibromyalgia which was found by my chiropractor and he sent me to the neurologist. I am on Gabapentin for the fibromyalgia. I was on Cymbalta but it gave me extreme headaches. The Lyrica made me become psychotic. The Gabapentin is doing quite a good job for the fibromyalgia. I haven't found anything that helps my osteoarthritis. However, my husband has osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis and takes Plaquenil as well as TART CHERRY JUICE. The Plaquenil wasn't quite doing it enough so we read up on the tart cherry juice and he gave that a try - - - low and behold, IT WORKS!!!! I'm a diabetic so I haven't tried the tart cherry juice yet. Just something else you might want to try and see how it does for you. There are a lot of people using the tart cherry juice here in our retirees rv resort and they've also had good results from it.

Welcome from Minnesota!
My daughter has lupus and fibro and has gotten some relief from Cymbalta. Lyrica is another med that can be helpful. Good luck on your journey!

Blessed be.

Thanks for the "welcome" Laura! I am going to talk to the doctor about medication. Right now I am using pain medication - but I use it very cautiously and have a low dose Rx. I only take it in the morning when I get up and at night before I go to sleep. My doctor gave me Tramadol to try and that didn't help me at all so I went back to the other medication. Tramadol is non-narcotic so I wanted to try it but...........I've also heard that Cymbalta is very effective for OA and RA and is also non-narcotic. I'm going to talk to the pain specialist about Cymbalta and Celebrex and see if maybe I can try a few different things until I find something that works well for me and isn't narcotic. I'm glad you found something that keeps your pain under control for you! Again, thanks for the welcome emoticon

emoticon I think you should go to the Dr and find out what you are dealing with and if he has any ideas about diet and exercise that might help. I have arthritis in my back, an injury to both knees and one ankle that cause arthritis type systems and could turn into arthritis.

Welcome to the team. If you do have arthritis perhaps your doctor could give you Celebrex which helps me tremendously; without it I can't function. I know the pillow routine all too well. Sometimes I have to sleep in a recliner due to pain.

Hope you get it under control.
Laura

I have been a Sparker for years but dropped off the radar for 6 months when I started a new job. I came back a few days ago and checked off the box to get information on arthritis - that generated an email that lead me to this team. I'm so happy to have found you all. emoticon

I have not had an "official" diagnosis of arthritis but my Internal Medicine doc said she was sure that's what I have. I also have a neighbor who does therapeutic massage and she swears I have Fibromyalgia. I am inclined to believe I have osteoarthritis - although RA is not out of the realm of possibility. I will be going to a pain specialist in October and then I'll get some answers. I have to wait until then due to an "insurance thing." The reason I'm fairly certain it is some kind of arthritis is that it started about a month and a half after I fell flat on my back on a tile floor in the summer of 2011. I landed with my left arm under me and broke that wrist in the fall and the arthritis is worse in that hand/wrist - also worse in my right hip than the left one. My left thumb gets stiff at night - to the point where bending it at the joint hurts like the emoticon I find that if I wash a couple of cups or dished with good hot water, I can then bend it with no problem. My biggest problem is trying to sleep at night. I fall asleep and wake up in an hour or so because I get very uncomfortable and have to turn into a different position. I've taught myself to fall asleep on my back - something I never was able to do before - but I still have to turn to my side once in a while. I try to stay off the right side so I don't put too much pressure on that hip but when I just have to turn on that side, I wedge a pillow under my leg and it helps. On the funny side, my husband also has pain issues and he uses extra pillows too. Between us, we have six pillows and a couple of travel size ones on our bed every night. Pretty soon we're going to have to go to a King bed just to fit all the pillows emoticon

Well, now that I've gone on and on - sorry about that - I just want to say that I'm so glad to be on this team and I look forward to all the information and support I feel sure I'll get from all of you. I hope I can contribute in some way too. emoticon
