Good point Joann! Someone once said on their blog " "Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it" Thats about the truest thing I've ever heard. If your day starts out rough you can let that set the pattern for your whole day and end up exhausted, frustrated, maybe angry, or a bit down and let that drive us into a bad choice about eating unhealthy foods in super unhealthy quantities, Or we can pull up and refocus on positive things and change how we respond to the day. Think of something you do well, or your progress here, or even doing a kindness for somebody, and praying will all refocus your day positievely

We make our mornings how we want them to be. If our morning starts out rough we look for ways to brighten it up, so as the rest of our day isn't ruined.

yep its when you have to function out of our comfort zones, which means out of our homes, that it all gets brought home to one. It made me realize I had two choices I could sit around trapped in my house and wheelchair and have all this unhealthy weight and fat and my blood sugar out of control, and wish and dream about being healthier, Or I could Wake up and smell the coffee and start Working towards that type of permanent lifestyle. That's why emoticon and the people here are so terrific with support and information and encouragement!
One wake up call I got was flying on a passenger jet for the first time in my life, and I couldn't even pull the little table down level so I could eat or set a drink down or even write. I tried to ignore it, because I knew diets always end for me in a binge and all the weight gained back and more. But now I've found SP I know how to lose and what it takes, if I'm willing to do the work, and how to make this work for life.

Thanks for the article suggestion. I will certainly look it over. Had out of town business this week that put a spotlight on my weight and knee issues. This just has to work this time. I don't want to spend the rest of my life worrying about fitting in chairs and worrying about how far I will have to walk. I am really thankful for this team and the supportive people I have met already. Thank you all.

Taking it one day at a time.

My goodness, I was so moved to see such sincere and friendly comments. You have know idea how much it means to me. Now that both of my kids are on their own I have found that I was living my life for them and now that I don't have all of their activities to be involved in I am bit lost. Finding that it is hard to be almost 49, single and make new friends. One by one as my girlfriends got married they kind of lost touch with me, so I am kind of starting over.

You have all given me some good advice and great encouragement. I do want to get my knees done, but two different ortho docs said they wanted me to try to wait until 55. The Euflexxa helps, as well as the medication I take for inflammation and pain. I can get through the day, but I have to make certain accomodations. Trips to Walmart are kind of a nightmare, but I get through it. Really wanted to Zumba, but way too much knee twisting involved in that style of dance. So, for now I do my home exercises my therapist gave me and I have a recumbent bike in my living room that I try to ride every day. I look forward to getting to know all of you better.

I really am overwhelmed by the kindness you have all shared with me. Thank you so very much.

Curious64 - - Don't be afraid of having the surgery done. It really isn't that bad. If you need both knees done, I'd suggest you have them both done at the same time. Actually, you have one done and then 3 days later they do the other knee (you stay in the hospital about a week). I would definitely have them done at the same time again! There is thearpy afterwards but it's well worth it!!! Dr said that I have more bend in my knees than most people do that have never had knee surgery/problems. It's so nice to be able to do things again, even such as walking, without pain.

Welcome to the team! I can't say I know how you feel because I don't have bone-on-bone arthritis pain in my knees yet. You have been given a lot of good advice already so there is not much I can add. Good luck with your journey.

CURIOUS64 emoticon back to SP. We are a friendly lot here and easy to make friends with. To make friend, put a comment on our pages, exchange SP goodies go to our post there is a button that says spark page on it. Click on it and it will take you there. To the right side upper corner you will find buttons to make a spark friend or send a private spmail to. scroll lower down and you will find where they have goodies and there is a button there to send someone a goodie, a little lower than that and there are the comments with a button to the right to add a comment. On your own page you can see any comments or goodies sent you and if you click at the upper right where the friend button is, there is also an Edit my Page button on your page click on that to change things about your page, or if you scroll down the right side you will see where you can enter a blog which allows you to share your thought, or feels opinions or just a good laugh or phote with everyone. Hope this helps!

Bone on bone knees are not only extreme in pain but the interfere with almost any form of healthy exercise and movement. JUDSTERF is right about considering knee replacement. I have not had it done but several friends have and cannot believe the difference its made in there lives, plus the recovery is quick and getting some exercise is part of the therapy with it. Its a win win choice to think about!

Welcome to SparkPeople. I have had total knee replacements to both knees at the same time. Best thing I ever did!!!! I had one knee replaced several years ago and then both knees in March 2006 - - I'd do both knees together in a heart beat!!! As long as you do your exercises afterwards you'll do just fine!!!

We are all here to help one another whether it's for advice, recipies, ideas, motivation, to vent, encouragement or whatever!! We are here for YOU because YOU ARE WORTH IT!!! Don't be afraid to ask questions. If there's no one on at the same time as you, there will be within a few minutes!!! We WILL get back with you!! You're never alone on this journey,.

Make your goals small ones - - only change 1 or 2 goals at a time - nothing drastic; i.e. maybe increase your fluid intake or maybe eating more fruit/vegetables in a day. Whatever you do, don't concentrate on how much weight you might want to lose, but maybe set a goal of only 5-10% of your total weight. By making only 1 or 2 changes in your lifestyle at a time will keep you from feeling so overwhelmed. The diabetes and/or weight didn't happen overnight and it definitely won't go away overnight either. It takes time. If you have a bad day once in a while, don't worry about - we've all had those days. Just get back on track as soon as possible. We are only human after all. BE FORGIVING of yourself when those times happen - and they will happen eventually. But, together, emoticon

Have fun and enjoy your Spark journey.

Judy

I definitely can relate to arthritis pain. I have had multiple joint replacements throughout this old body and know the frustrations you face. Make sure you keep up with your D3 (I take 5000 u daily). Do you take Celebrex your anything to alleviate some of the pain?

Hope you feel better.

I am a returning Spark member. I am 48 and my knees are both bone-on-bone. Had euflexxa injections in December 2012. Really helped my left knee, but the right one has always been the bigger problem. Suffered some setbacks in my weight loss journey due to some medication and becoming really discouraged after my youngest child moved out last summer. Trying to get back on track. Have lost 3 lbs. (I need to enter that on my page) Going to have some lab work done to check my thyroid and my B12. Already know that my vitamin D3 is near zero so I have started a supplement for that.

Not sure if it is a front moving through my area or what, but my right knee is so bad this morning that I might have to use my walker. I hate to use that darn thing at work, but it does help.

I am hoping to make some new friends and find support/encouragement here. I'm not exactly sure how to do that. The site kind of overwhelms me sometimes, but I am starting by posting to some of my team boards. Looking forward to meeting some of you and sharing this journey. emoticon

Taking it one day at a time.
