I read Nora Roberts as well. I bought some new puzzles the other day. One box has 5 - 500 pieces puzzles and the other is just 1 - 500 pieces puzzle. Haven't gotten into them yet. I use to have a roll up puzzle mat but gave it to my sister when I stopped doing puzzles.

I love to read and my taste in Author's changes. I now read Debbie McComber, Janet Evanovich, (hooked on her), Susan Weiss, Sandra Brown, Fern Michaels and sometimes Nora Roberts. I just got the new book club book called The Language of Flowers. Very depressing book and I don't know if I will finish it After working in the hospital, I don't usually read such depressing books. Where they come up with these books is a mystery to me. My current puzzle is of all things pieces of chocolate. LOL It is extremely difficult, no interlocking pieces. After a few more days, I just might scrap it and move on. Went to WW lost .2, last week I gained .2, so I guess I am Ok with that. Bev

I use to read alot and do puzzles but haven't done either in a long time. When I moved 3 years ago I gave away 4 big garbage bags full of puzzles. I like Dean Koontz, V. C Andrews, Danielle Steele, Steven King and Sylvia Browne books the best. I will read other authors as well. I have a Dean Koontz book sitting beside my bed I bought when I moved and haven't opened it yet. I think that is going to change real soon. My mind needs stimulation also. HA HA LOL. Thank You for the awesome idea of reading. Puzzles maybe also as I do still have some of them.

I know that Libraries have Book Clubs and I think I mentioned it to Whitney-Teacher on another site. I have 4 books lined up to read, and as today is a rainy day, might get some serious reading done.

Whitney-teacher -- does your local newspaper have a book club? I know our Sacramento Bee has a book club and I sometimes will read their books. Do you have a local Barnes & Noble nearby because they also have book clubs. I have read books I never would have even picked up never mind read and enjoyed them. Some of them have been made into movies. Bev

Not only is the outing good, but like you said it is a boost for depression. It is the planning and anticipation of meeting different people. We have a group of 15 and at any given meeting about 7-10 show up and we get caught up in everything from work to personal lives. I always feel uplifted when I leave. I meet once a month with two other groups. One group of gals are from my former WW meeting and the other group of gals is from where I used to work. It is a very diversified group of woman and I have such a good time. Bev

Yes joining a club you can enjoy is a great boost for depression. It gets your mind thinking of something else and lets you unwind.

I agree, but I go for the social night. If I don't like a book, I will either read it or not and they always know when I won't like a book. They usually say "Bev won't like this one". I am completely honest. I have been going to this book club for about 10 years, most of them are RN's that I worked with in the ER and they have a different outlook than me, but I am welcome and we do have a great time. One of the ER techs and I like the same books so we usually both gang up on them. LOL You should try it for the social time if nothing else. It is usually very uplifting and very informative in many ways. It gets me out of the house too. LOL Bev

I haven't checked into any local book clubs or anything for that reason. I find my taste in reading is different than a lot of other women and I either like something or I don't . I don't really care much what the author was thinking about or trying to say (other than the obvious). I like what I read for my own reasons, not because it's popular or this weeks best seller.

Do you have a library close by? If you do you can join their book club. I know my library has one, but I already belong to one. Where they come us with the books is a mystery to me. Just because it is a Best Seller or won some prize doesn't necessarily mean I will like it. I read a book for enjoyment and some of these RN's analize it to death. I could care less what the author was thinking, I either like it or I don't. They always save me for last because most of them know where I am coming from LOL

Thanks for the support, I know I sent a private message to some of you earlier but thought I'd try responding to the post this time instead. I'm still getting the hang of the site. BEVIEG41 suggested getting to know people somewhere local like Starbucks. The nearest Starbucks is about 25 miles away and, although I love coffee I generally avoid Starbucks - way too many calories! When we travel to New Mexico to visit my son and his family my husband and I treat ourselves to a Pilot cappuccino on the second morning of the drive. My husband is diabetic (type 1) and really watches his blood sugar closely so rarely has anything with that much sugar in it. I think another problem I have is I'm pretty shy, at least in person. It's kind of funny because I taught high school and loved it. I was never shy or insecure in my classroom but I sure am with other adults! Also, my first husband was pretty selfish in a lot of ways. For one thing he didn't want me to do anything that didn't include him so pretty early on I lost all of my single friends. We were married almost 30 years before he died and he never wanted me to have any women friends so I kind of lost the ability to start new friendships. My "new" husband is great! He's very supportive and not controlling at all but the previous 30 years experiences definitely affected me and I can't seem to shake it.

Welcome and glad you are back. I am a fairly new Sparkler but am enjoying this site so much I think I am starting to make my family crazy because I talk about it so much!! I am 54, a school nurse and also have arthritic knees, although I think I am in the early stages as I can walk long distances without any pain but some of the exercises are difficult if they involve deep knee bending. Like another member said check out the videos there are a number of things you can still do while sitting in a chair which would still be beneficial. I was doing some upper body strength work today and because it was in a chair I thought it was going to be a piece of cake, but it did take some effort. Its sad that you feel so out of touch where you are living. I would be more than happy to "friend" you can we can communicate anytime. That's what is so wonderful about this site is that we can talk to so many people and share our thoughts, problems, questions, and just friendship when it is needed. I plan on going to your page to read more. I look forward to taking more with you.

Remember if you have a bad day, just don't focus on it keep tracking. If you have a flat tire, you don't puncture the other three, you put on a spare and keep going. You are back on the wagon and that is a good thing. Bev

I too have bad knees and exercise is a challenge for me. There are lots of exercises on this website that you can do from a chair, and they have really helped me. Go to Videos to find them. I am trying to lose ANY weight. Get bored easily and that is why I eat, not because I am hungry. Glad you are back because the support is every day. I also do WW but that support is only once a week and they are not as good as SPARKPEOPLE. I enjoyed your intro. I know you mentioned a small city, but do you have a Starbucks or coffee place to go? You can meet lots of people at those places if you go everyday. This would also get you out of the house. Write me anytime you are bored. Bevieg41 - Bev

I am just now getting back in the grove also plagued by arthritis among other things. It is not easy for me to get out and about mainly because I work from home on the computer and when I do take a break it is usually to lay down a bit since my knees hurt.
I am coming up on 66 month and I may be old but have alot of miles left in me so I really need to get these 60 extra lbs. off like you are. My parts are starting to wear out
Good luck on your journey.

Hi everyone. This will be my third time returning to Sparkpeople since I discovered it in 2008. I guess there's a reason I keep coming back, maybe there's still a little hope of success left in me. I would like to lose at least 60 pounds and it really seems impossible sometimes. I think I’m mostly tired, tired of counting calories, of watching EVERYTHING I eat, of trying to figure out an exercise program I can stick to and mainly I’m tired of hating my reflection – especially when I’m not dressed! I'm 60 years old, a retired high school biology teacher. I retired in 2008 because I was driving about 140 miles a day to and from work and really wanted to spend more time with my husband Rod. Rod is 7 years older than I am and is a type 1 diabetic. I was widowed at age 47 and realize that time is the one thing you never can replace so I was glad we could afford for me to retire at age 55. The biggest challenge I have is boredom. I live in a pretty small town (around 5,000) and the nearest city is 90 miles away. Before my second marriage in 2002 I always lived in big cities so this was really a change for me. I don't have any friends here, I think it would be easier if I had someone to walk with or talk about "women" things (like weight loss) that I don't feel comfortable talking with my husband about. I have arthritis in my knees and I think now it's also in my left foot so exercise is a challenge, mainly I walk - a LOT but now my foot hurts so I'm not sure what's going to happen with my exercise plan. I came back to Sparkpeople this time in the hopes of finding encouragement and maybe finding some other women I could have an email friendship with. Check out my SparkPage, there's lots more info there (you can tell I'm bored). I probably wrote a lot more than I should have for an introduction but I also like to talk - even if it's in writing emoticon
