Thanks for the suggestion but no pools around emoticon Besides these days with all the disease and such people carry I wouldn't be caught dead in a public pool. Nor are there any structured Aquatic exercise classes anywhere near, I've checked, but thank you for your suggestion

Have you tried exercising in a pool. There isn't any strain on the joints in the water. If you can get to a pool you will enjoy it.

Hi all I have Osteoarthritis in all my major joints and hands, particularly where the spine joins the hips/pelvic area. I have been in a wheelchair for some time due to the pain and because I am also an amputee (left leg below knee) I have a lot of painful days ranging from aching to moderately severe and swollen and inflamed. I also have other medical conditions. So my doctors suggested I really need to start building up to getting out of the chair and more active and also with the arthritis and diabetes type2 I should change my nutrition lifestyle. I found Spark in searching for ways to do that. Its been helping a lot though some days I feel dazed and a little reluctant to stick to it.
Just now I'm getting on with the walking and doing some standing exercises as well as the bed and chair ones. But my lower back always hurts after working out until I end up clenching my teeth from the nagging pain. It goes on for the whole next hour until I work out again, stops during exercises and begins again after. I am mostly walking and doing range of motion exercises at this time. Is this normal when you begin to move joints that haven't been properly moved in like years? Is there a way to ease it without pain meds?

Good for you. I go online to the restaurant I am going to check out the menu and nutritional information so I can go in and make a good choice. Glad you are all getting together. The only time I snack is in front of the TV. I just bought some yogurt and I can eat graham crackers.

I find that if I watch my calorie intake for the day before the outing (breakfast and Lunch) and skip the snacks that I can manouver a healthy supper by picking something low in calories to eat. Since my Mom died 2 years ago my brother who is looking after my Dad (GOD BLESS HIM) has been requesting alot of special occasion outings to get us kids together. We have drifted so far apart. I haven't been doing too bad at them ?They are all at the same restaurant so I can plan ahead what I am going to eat. Which is good.

So very true. I know better, but sometimes I get carried away. Talk myself into it by saying I can get back on the wagon tomorrow. But I have been doing much better, so I know I can do it. Bev

It is hard eating out but sometimes you just have to decide that YOU are more important than eating out and find other ways to socialize or BYOF to the events.

Staying focused and motivated is the way to go. My problem is I am letting life get in the way, lunches, dinners out and Pot Lucks. Not their fault, but my choices are mine. emoticon

What is nice is the support is every day and not one day a week at WW. Better advice and very helpful articles. Bev

KristyE81-- I am a current WW, but mostly go for the gals that I have met and we do meet two hours earlier and have a great time together. I lost 65 w/WW and gradually put it all back on and then some. It is a great program if you stick to it, like anything else. But I do enjoy SparkPeople and the support that I get everyday from everyone. The points I track at WW don't really help because I have to watch my sodium and just lately they are stressing low sodium. About time. I go to a Senior Meeting and we do have a great meeting. When you create a Spark Page friend me and we can keep in touch Bev

Welcome and good luck. I too was a WW member and actually became a lifetime member but fell off the wagon. I think it is a great program but it can be expensive. Also people were supportive but on the Sparkpeople web site you can get support EVERY DAY. You don't have to wait until that once a week meeting. I have found the site to be very inspiring, motivating and helpful. Welcome! Looking forward to interacting emoticon
PS Once you have a Spark page friend me and I will friend you back! emoticon emoticon

I'm new to sparkpeople. I lost 60 pounds 3 years ago with WeightWatchers however, I have slowly gained it all back. I am trying sparkpeople because I enjoyed WW and the support it provided but not the cost! Looking forward to making friends and being successful!
