Thank you all so much for the wonderful warm welcome. This is exactly what I needed and I knew I would find it here at Sparkpeople. Iam stunned now that I ever left.. I do have access to a pool and today I found out that I will be going back to Alaska for a week taking my granddaughter up for spring break week. I spent some time there in Dec/Jan and was miserable I hurt so bad.. I have these 2 months to work hard and get some of this weight off.

I have 3 little grand kids up under age 3.. a 10yo and 6yo granddaughter and I want to have fun with them.

I have started back here in Feb 2012 after putting some weight back on. I lost 114lbs here previously and I now know I need this community and the food tracker to keep me in check.

Hello Debbie and welcome! I also was facing total hip (60% missing / L hip) but wanted to put myself into the best position to benefit from it so decided to knockoff some weight. Seven months to lose 50+ and I decided not not have the surgery as there's so much less pressure on the hip. Still have pain? Yes, 24/7 but I can deal with it now so much better now.

Interesting you mention swimming, there's probably no better way to exercise with arthritis due to weight being off the joint. If you're in school. perhaps they have a pool for athletics? Do they have a medical field like Physical Therapy that might have one for rehab? For chair based exercises, hit the Healthy Lifestyles tab up top and use search. I'm sure Coach Nicole has lots of ideas for you.

BIG congratulations on obtaining your degree. Take the discipline needed for that and apply it to weight loss and you'll be back to that healthy weight of a few years ago. Remember, your team is just a shout away if you need support!

WOW Debbie, that's incredible - congratulations on your college achievements.
Sounds like you have access to a swimming pool. That is great exercise with almost no stress on the joints.
I also have arthritis, and I use the "Sit and be Fit Workout" by Mary Ann Wilson, R.N.
She did TV workouts for several years, so she has several different programs. You choose the one (or more) that fits you best.
You've taken the first step - good luck on arriving at your goal.

Welcome back!!
And congratulations on getting your college diploma. What an achievement....at any age!

And ....congrats on coming back to Sparks... As you know...there is as much support and information here as there is anywhere. You did it once.....you can do it again.

I too, am an arthritis 'victim'....and I make jewelry. Also, I am a return Sparks member (a year in May).... so we have much in common.

Sorry about your hip. Losing some weight will help you recover faster....so good luck with your new challenges. We're here for you.

Hugs. Libby emoticon

I'm so pleased to hear your determination to get back on track to healthy eating and healthy moving. You've deleted an app that you enjoyed and used as relax time. But also as snack/graze time - so there's a great step forwards.
Swimming is a great exercise, because it buffers your joints - but watch out for your neck and your spine alignment.

There are loads of exercises you can do seated, to help you along.
Strength training is fairly straight-forward to do seated instead of standing - and coach Nocile has loads of examples.
Cardio is a different matter, and this is probably where your swimming can be of help.

Looking forward to hearing about your progress.

Hello, my name is debbie and I am 57yo. I lost over 100lbs with Sparkepople in 2007 kept if off for a couple years maybe 3 I cant remember nopw but then I decided to go back to college. Between fulltime school and fulltime work I have put most of it back on. I now have arthritis in my hip and need to have hip replacement surgery.

I am pretty limited and can't do much walking with being in extreme pain but I can swim. I got hooked on farmville while working night shift and would spend countless hours playing while mindlessly eating. I deleted the game a couple days ago and am back at Sparkpeople, ready to do this again. I need the support of the community and I know it is going to be much harder this time around. I am looking forward to the group and finding what options I have for chair exercises.

I used to food tracker today for the first time in years and tomorrow I will get my weight updated, I need to remember to get on the scales first thing in the morning.

I graduate from college in june and will be the first person in my family to have done this. It will be nice if i can get some of this darned weight back off and be able to walk up onto the stage to get that diploma I have worked so hard for.

Thank you for being here and I look forward to getting to know you.. many smiles to all of you,
debbie
