Welcome! Do not be afraid of hip replacement surgery. I had my right hip done Sept. 13 and the left on Sept 19. Today I did 2 miles on my treadmill and another .6 on my elliptical with absolutely no pain. The recovery was not bad at all.. Good luck to you.

I am relatively new to the site myself, but one of the reasons I got serious about losing some weight was because I am hoping that it will help my joints.
As far as exercises, when I was first diagnosed as having hip issues (about 2 years ago), I was advised to stay away from anything that was jarring, or put weight on the hips (I am a runner). The orthopaedist suggested stationary bicycle. Elliptical is not bad either.
One thing that has really help me, is regular yoga. I have some DVDs of beginner's yoga that I use, and it really helps. You can get used DVDs through A_azon (not sure whether we can give a company's name).
Don't be afraid of the replacement, if it has to happen. I had my right hip replaced through an anterior replacement (moved the muscle aside, didn't cut it) in February, and I was back at work in 3 weeks. It was totally worth it.

Hi. I'm a 43 year old single mom. I have severe arthritis in both hips, so bad that I can barely walk some days. I am terrified of having hip replacement surgery and looking for any options of exercises/supplements that will help me lose weight and make the pain more livable. Thanks in advance!
