Hi, Betony! Welcome! I have a really good friend in Mississauga. She's fighting the battle, too.
It's tough, but you'll find a lot of support here while losing the weight, and as someone else suggested, there are a lot of resources on the website, as well. I think we could all spend 8 hours s day on the site and not take advantage of everything SP has to offer! LOL!
Good luck to you on your journey. Don't hesitate to ask any of us a question or for support as you move along your path. We're all here puddling along with you!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, ... , body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"
Welcome and congrats on losing the 90 lbs. Every pound we carry makes our arthritis worse and so I am cheering you on to find the right combination of eating and exercise to get the balance of the weight off. This site has a lot of great exercise videos and many can be done from a chair and with no equipment. Explore this site and see what helps are avaiilable to you.
I have been having Synvisc-One gel shots in my knees to keep me from having a total knee replacement and so far, they work. I am not taking water aerobics and that is also great on the joints and prevents injury and aches and pains. Is there a pool near you? My dr. ordered physical therapy for me in a hot, salt water pool for 8 visits and that really helped my whole body.
This is a great site and I am sure everyone will help you and answer your questions and offer advice. We all care! You do the homework and watch for success to arrive.
BETONY, I want to extend a welcome as well. I believe that it is a great and courageous step to take to reach out. I feel knew to this process, I can say it has helped to put my struggles out there, knowing I am not alone. Karen

I've been lurking for a couple of weeks, getting used to the program
I'm a 47-year-old mom living in Ontario, Canada. Like many of you, I've done every diet imaginable. I also had lap-band surgery in 2002, which helped me take off and keep off 90 pounds. However, I haven't been able to get any lower and still have about 65 pounds to lose to reach a healthy BMI.
But what's really driving me this time is the fact that I have developed osteoarthritis in my knees, hips and spine. It's affecting my ability to walk. I know I can't fix the damage that's already done, but I hope to prevent it from getting much worse. I feel like I am not givig my daughter the mom she deserves. So this is not just a journey to look better; it's a journey to feel better - physically, mentally and spiritually - and to BE better.
Thanks for listening...
