Last summer I went to Katmai National Park in Alaska for brown bear viewing. I packed most of my food in my luggage. Because it was several flights and a camping trip, it was backpacking style food. I could've paid for my meals at the "lodge" but they were expensive, unhealthy and not very good. I had one breakfast and two lunches (salads both times) at the "lodge".
Because the bear viewing area and the "lodge" are a decent walk from the campground, I averaged 5+ miles a day of walking.
I ended up losing 2 pounds on my vacation.
