Greetings! I am a Quality Assurance professional in the Pharmaceutical industry in the CA Bay Area. Sadly, that means I don't get to be in the actual LAB, but I do use my Biology and Chemistry degrees to make sure the science used to release our products is sound.
I joined Sparkpeople about 2.5 years ago. Since then I have lost almost 150 pounds. I am still trying to lose some more, but am more focused on being healthier overall and keeping my new "improved" life intact, and improving every day.
I have never really gotten into the social side of Sparkpeople and realized I may have been missing out on welcomed motivation and challenges, which help drive me. So... here I am, taking that plunge. I am shy until I get to know people, but more than willing to talk to anyone that is interested. Hopefully some of the challenges will have my name floating around in them soon.

Hi guys! I just graduated and haven't gotten a job in science yet so I don't have an official "-ist" title, but I'm trying to find work in genetics and bioinformatics.
I'm on SparkPeople because I lost 20+ pounds my first year in college, then gained it all back so now I'm trying to lose it again!

Hi! I'm a chemist working in the Houston area. I bet you can guess what industry I'm involved in.
I never realized there were any teams for us science types. Glad I found you guys. I've been a SparkPerson for about 4 years now . . . . lost 50 pounds and they all found me again, so I'm on my way down to stay!
Hope to hear from you all soon.
Keep swinging.
Keep praying.

Hi - I'm a plant physiologist and computational biologist working in academia. I stay in shape by running and (when I can motivate myself!) lifting weights.
I really love my work, and one of my main motivators is staying healthy into my 80s and 90s so that I can keep doing science.

Greetings. I'm an agricultural researcher in South Dakota working in a corn breeding program (as if my username doesn't give that away), but I've worked in a variety of labs over the years. I've got to say that plant breeding is like no other science I've worked in, not at all like the bioassays and such I've done before, but it's nice to go to work and spend all day picking corn in the gorgeous sunshine. :-)

Hi all! I am a supervisor for the biological quality department at a pharmaceutical manufacturing company in McPherson, KS. I have a BS in botony and a MAS in microbiology. My lab deals mostly with immunoassays and molecular type testing so I do have to flex my science brain on occasion, but most of my day goes to dealing with process flow issues. My heart, though, is still with plants and I love to visit the prairies here to learn new species. I also am an avid birder. My husband is also a microbiologist, works for the same company and we have 2 boys who a destined to become serious science nerds.

Hi all, and thanks to the creators of this group! I'm 28 and currently a research technician in lifestyle-oriented diabetes research. Most of what I do is done from my desk, so getting activity can be challenging, but it's worth it!

I graduated in '09 with a Biology degree and like tons of other people couldn't find a job! I went from studying gene expression in sea urchins to working as a secretary so I wouldn't starve :-(
Anyway, my search to get my foot into a lab continues as I also plan to return to school in the spring. Exercising keeps me motivated and positive despite this seemingly sad state of affairs :-D

I'm an undergraduate neuroscience student. I am currently doing research at a medical college, and I absolutely love it! So excited to find a group of fellow science enthusiasts trying to lose weight.

Hi everyone! I just joined the team and wanted to introduce myself. I'm a graduate student studying cancer biology. I've been through a couple of rough years, but hoping that things are starting to look up. I'm excited that there's a team specifically for scientists!

Hey! I'm Kim and I'm still relativey new to SP. I'm a chemist/geophysicist who's currently working as a RN and wondering what direction I need to go in. I worked as a chemist/industrial hygienist for 13 years and that's when all my stress eating got started. I'm trying to get my eating back to healthy and get to exercising regularly again.

Hi, I'm Lisa. I've got a PhD in analytical chemistry (bioelectrochemistry). I started my career as an associate professor in chemistry at a small liberal arts college in Illinois. Eight years ago, I got tired (disillusioned?) with teaching and switched careers. I'm now working in the packaging industry doing technical customer service for a coatings supply company. Every day is a new problem (aka "opportunity"!). I work with the sales, marketing, research, quality, and manufacturing teams of both my company and counterparts with our customers.
I've been "sparking" since Jan 21, 2011 and "lurking" on several teams - this is my first post to a message board. I'm hoping at this week's weigh in that I will reach a 10lb weight loss!

I followed UCANTTAKETHESKY here from the Browncoats team. I'm a retired Chemist/medical device QA. This looks like a small group that can grow.

Welcome, Evelyn! Retired, but going for BSc? Wow! I'm impressed. Have fun exploring SP--there's SO much information and inspiration waiting for you here. I love reading the stories and blogs from people who are succeeding, and the informational articles are very helpful too.

Hi Team. I am a Weather Forecaster (Meteorologist) in the National Weather Service. I started my weight loss/fitness program on Oct 18, 2010, but didn't come across SP until late Oct, and joined. I find this site amazing in its scope, including these team challenges. I am quite aggressive at hitting my target and spend about 60-90 minutes each day doing some activity, including walking 3-4 miles each day. I look forward to being a member of Scientists Unite!

Hello! I've been a member of Sparkpeople for a little over a year, and I just realized that on the SparkAmerica Career Challenge, scientists were not represented on the Leaderboard! So I decided to start my own team of scientists and see how awesome we can be together!
I'm a biochemist from Vermont, who just moved to southern New Hampshire. The main focus of my work is protein expression, purification, activity, and crystallization.
