Hi all! I live in a tiny apartment that serves as an office as well. Things from the club cover all my dressers and my storage room is so cramped for space its hard to move in there. I just recently got rid of all unnecessary papers, make my personal one drawer filing cabinet easy to get into and clearing out half a storage box. I can't get rid of the club stuff, I am stuck with it and will pass it on to the next manager should I retire. They have a 2 drawer office cabinet, printer and lots of paper which takes up most of my free space with office supplies as well. What I need to do is get rid of anything not used. My problem is my Mom keeps giving me things I don't need. I did declutter my clothing successfully though.
All the best with your goals everyone!

Hi, my name is Jennifer, and I joined this group a few days ago. I hope that this group can help me to become more organized in all areas of my life. Right now everything seems to be a wreck. I think if I can just get organized then things wont seem so bad.
I'm married and I have two boys, one 17 and one 6.

Hi! My name is Kayleigh and I just had a baby about five weeks ago. Organization and time management are important to me and I am feeling a little overwhelmed because I feel like I am loosing grip a little. I guess my biggest goal right now is to juggle taking care of an infant and working on getting into some sort of organizational routine again. I was never organized growing up, but in married life I have learned that it is essential for things to go smoothly.

Specific Goals:
*Continue menu planning. Add veggies and side dishes to each meal.
*Complete "daily draft" each day to prioritize what needs to get done and when I'll do it.
*Consistently maintain a cleaning schedule.
*Figure out and implement more ways to make things easier in my household.

Happiness Depends on Happenings...Joy Depends on Jesus. :)

Hi, I'm Christina.
I just moved from a flat to a regular type house. The house is a big mess and part of the floors, curtains and lamps are not yet in place. It makes me realize how important it is to organize.
Seeing what a lot of unnecessary stuff we had when I packed the boxes for the move, I hope to do better in the new house and throw things out that we don't need, and do more cleaning.

Morning!

My name is Steven. I'm a short story writer, but , one day hope to change that to short story Author.

Wife and I are both retired high school teachers. As any other retired school teachers know, you can never really retire from that vocation.
I still teach 3 classes at the local community college, and wife now coaches the competitive theatre and speech teams part-time.

Most of our domestic retirement time is restoring, refinishing, repurposing our 105+ year old home.

Hello everyone! I'm trying to get organized, unfortunately it's hard for me. What's really embarrassing is that I only work 15 hours a week. I should have plenty of time to organize myself, but I look around and feel overwhelmed and in the end don't do anything.

I'm looking forward to being a part of this team!

Hey there! I so need this group lol! I love the peace that comes from a well organized home/life, but unfortunately that's not a word that usually describes life! When it is organized, it generally doesn't last long! Hoping to get some good ideas and motivation here!

We just bought a 3 bedroom house, coming from a 1 bedroom apartment. I am determined to keep the house clean, organized, and functional. I'm so grateful to be in a house and I am viewing this as a fresh start for a lot of things in my life. No more excuses like, "We're not going to be here long. What's the point in organizing now?" or "I can't exercise because the workout room is crowded, the street is busy, or the neighbors downstairs will get mad having to listen to my jumping jacks." or "I don't have room to store foods for healthy meals. And produce is too expensive. I'll wait until I have a garden."

So here it goes! I'm going to walk with my dogs, keep my home clutter-free, cook more, and learn to garden! I'm excited!

Boy! Do I need this team! My house is a cluttered-up mess and my life is pretty disorganized. I am not so sure I can handle another team, but I am willing to try. The clutter in my life is causing me stress, so having a goal to spend 15 minutes a day de-cluttering and organizing should be good for me.

emoticon Good Morning!
I had a terrific day yesterday. I cut away the dead evergreens that died this past winter...orange evergreens are dead Fred.
My rib didn't like me using emoticon the loppers...I guess. Planning to transplant a rhodo there and some shade loving plants: Lady's Mantle, wild ginger, etc.

I also picked up a 3 tiered bird bath fountain that I need to re-finish.
I am working on getting outside to enjoy a bit of every Summer Day we have. Last night was so clear for emoticon star gazing too! Have a great day today!

Hi Everyone! I'm so excited to have found this team! My name is Tonya and I have been on the weight loss roller coaster all of my life. I got married last August and felt good about my body and where I was weight wise but decided I was just going to watch what I ate after that and not go on any more diets. Well I have since gained back just over 30 pounds since then so here I go again! I also LOVE to be organized but have to say I'm not very good at it! Lol! I just finished my degree in Health Sciences and my husband and I have 3 home businesses so I really need to get going on the organization front! So I was happy to find this team and look forward to what it brings! Hope everyone has a great day!

Hello everyone! My name is Kelly and I am in the midst of getting it all organized!

I have been married for 20 years, I have three children, we also have three dogs. I have just recently started really organizing my life. I've always kept a pretty neat home just not very organized. So chaos would reign for a while and then it would all get neat again. It's been a roller coaster, but worked for us. As my kids are getting older and all three will be graduated from high school within the next 3 years I'm hoping to talk my husband into downsizing our home. For that I need to get organized and decluttered. I'm loving this team so far with all of the tips and motivation.

I will be turning 40 this year and want to feel better and start our empty nest years in the best shape of my life.

Hi all! You can call me Nay. I am 41 and wanting to lose about 60 pounds. My partner and I recently went from living in her mom's basement, in a tiny bedroom, to living in her great grandpa's mobile home after he passed away last year. This has been both a blessing and a curse.

We spent a lot of time upgrading the furniture and appliances, but also added a lot of stuff in general. We are classic enablers to not keeping our home clean and neat. Would love to find tips on how to dive in... always feels like it will be an episode of clean sweep. And I didn't even mention the fact that we have 2 storage units.

Always looking to add positive people to my friends list emoticon

Hi veryone, my name is Karyn. I rejoined SparkPeople for health reasons, and found this group intriguing because of the picture of the color coordinated tank tops hanging in a closet. Two years ago we moved from a very large city home to a very small modular home in the country. Although we got rid of rooms full of stuff, I still haven't found a place for everything. Last week I decided to find my summer clothes, sort the sizes and decide what to do with/store where and get rid of anything that is too big. Well the winter clothes are still sitting on the spare bed and I have out of town guess coming on June 20. So with the help of this team I hope to get back to my normally organized self who respects order and organization. I lost her somewhere two years ago, but I liked her, so please help me find her.

Hi!

I have been on SparkPeople for a while, using the fitness trackers especially. I am writing my dissertation now, which is exciting not just because I will be achieving a goal but because it gives me the opportunity/motivation to really focus on organizing my thoughts and actions (not that I have been a complete hot mess until now, but focus has been on collecting data, reading like crazy.,,,now it is time for me to take all the data and information I have been accumulating and make sense of it). Some ways I am doing this include...

1) I have a spreadsheet made for a specific type of study so that I can compare methods and findings across the many papers I have read/am reading about that specific topic.
2) I have been working on making just index cards for other findings, grouped for the moment by what behavior is being studied. So, for example, I have a card for Drug-Seeking Behavior and on it is a brief list of what things affect it, with the citation info,
3) I am making a spreadsheet with the different instruments people use in their human studies, like different diagnostic measures etc., so that I have a quick reference for what exactly each one measures, what kind of population it was made for, etc.

I am also in the middle of losing weight and getting more fit. It is a good time for me to make it a priority because my daily schedule is a little more flexible than it has been in years because now that my main focus is reading and writing, I can do that at home or in blocks of time throughout the day (meaning I can take breaks to work out, shower, and return to office if I want).

My short-term goals are to read 2 papers/day until...sometime? Haha. And organize my notes in the spreadsheets and notecards as mentioned above. Then of course my longer-term goal is to complete and defend my thesis by the fall!

I am really focused on managing my time wisely because I have seen how time gets away from us students when we have so much to work on and aren't on as structured a schedule as we are when we are actually running experiments.

Hi everyone my name is Rachel and I joined SP for accountability in my weight loss journey. My goals include losing 85 lbs, running 2 miles by this December, and simply to be happy with myself. I feel that when my surroundings are mess that is a reflection on what my brain and emotions are. So in order for me to feel calm and content my space around me has to be somewhat organized. Well I hope to get to know you and hope you all reach your goals! Best Wishes emoticon emoticon

Hi I'm new here!
We have lived in this house for 23 years! And we have stuff, stuff and more stuff. We might be making a move emoticon in the coming year and so I want to go through e v e r y t h i n g and toss, sell, donate or keep. This has to happen and this looks like a great team to be on to help make it happen.
Oh, also, I want to manage my weight and a cronic health condition too.

Hi! My name is Elizabeth and my goal is to reclaim my apartment. Included in this goal is cleaning out the closets, clearing out extraneous items from my bedroom and creating a peaceful, clutter free home. I am convinced that retraining my mind to focus and breaking down my projects will help me make meal preparation and exercise a priority as well. Now where did I put my keys?!

Hello, I'm Jes. Once upon a time I was very well organized and both my home and workspace were always neat. Those days have flown out the window and I want to get them back! I'm getting married in October, my fiance is a packrat and doesn't keep things organized at all, and my stepkids follow in his footsteps. It seems I'm picking up his habits more than he is mine, and I want to reverse that. My goal is to have our home decluttered and organized before he gets home from his deployment so that it will be easier to keep it that way once he's there again. I have about 3 months left, so I need to get moving! Oh, and speaking of moving, we'll probably be doing that within the next year as well, so all the more reason to minimize possessions now!

Hi There! I have been a procrastinator since birth. I have a garage that I can barely walk through with who knows what. That needs to change and is at the top of my hit list. After that it's bring some organization to my fixer house. I've been here five years and never seem to find the time to do the things I want to get done. Time management is the bane of my existence. I hope to change that!

Hi! I'm Patty and I've been on SP since June 2010. I still can't quite get my weight and my life to where I want it to be. If I had a nickle for every time I said I need to get organized, I would be so rich!

God grant me the serenity to change the things I can, to accept the things I cannot change, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Hi! My name is Lea. I am a 22 year old stay at home mom. I'm on Sparkpeople to help me lose 5-10 pounds and to keep me motivated to keep making healthy decisions once I'm where I need to be. I am a full time student taking online classes and with two toddlers running around the house I often get behind with the housework.

I hate cleaning my kitchen and I will avoid it like the plague. We have a chunk of counter space that we tend to use as a catch-all and so even when all of my dishes and things are clean, the kitchen is still a mess. I'm hoping to find some cleaning tips and tricks to make things go by more quickly and efficiently that way I can keep my house clean with my busy schedule.

Donna, you shared a fantastic idea re a household binder to hold important papers, appliance infro and the like. Also, since you have been away from Spark for a while and just started again, you may not be aware of a page on Spark that gives access to informative articles and videos in the areas of nutrition, fitness, motivation and wellness for a healthy lifestyle makeover. Hello! My name's Donna. I'm new to the team and am restarting on Spark after a few years away.

I have so many goals, including organizing my household, that I am creating a master plan list to help me keep track of things.

1. Making a household binder for archives/emergencies - to hold important home docs, appliance info, major purchases, insurance, etc. Trying to gather everything together into one binder so if I have to vacate the house in an emergency, I can grab this and will have the important stuff.

2. Making a house project binder to track what needs to be done and for each project what needs to be bought (supplies to DIY), smaller tasks to complete the bigger project, etc. SOOOO many things to do around my new house!

3. Have a list of other misc organizing projects to do, like organizing the car (glove compartment & trunk), making an emergency kit / food / plan, etc.

I can already see there are lots of great ideas in this team, so I'm looking forward to reading & hopefully contributing!

I have a ton of organizing things pinned on Pinterest, so I'll share a few if I find them useful.

Anyway, hello!

Maria, thanks for your story of your old Victorian style house. You can help offset the lack of storage space by buying 2nd hand storage cabinets. There are a lot of 2nd hand TV cabinets with book shelves available for a song as people buy wall mounted flat TV's and you can add shelves where the TV went. Walmark also carries inexpensive storage cabinets.
You are no longer a recovering slob, you just have things from the past and current that you are now dealing with. Moving is always disruptive.
Good for you in giving up some of your sentimental items to get better control of your surroundings. If you have other sentimental items that you feel unsure of parting with, you might take a picture of them to hold on to instead.
As for the difficulty of saying no to giving more of your time to others, I suggest you take a couple of weeks to keep track of where you spend your time. Then you can be a stronger person for your self. But it is possible that you can manage to find time for yourself and family without giving up your current obligations. But do think twice before taking on more. You can team up with other parents in the area or at church to share the responsibilities of child care to give yourself more free time. That is what my oldest daughter did. My youngest daughter who has two young children and both she and her husband work full time, lives near her mom and in laws and doesn't have that problem.
Keep letting us know how you are doing and you can both be more accountable and obtain more motivation to become organized. emoticon

My goodness. I been back from Vietnam since February but got sick on the plane coming back due to contaminated ice in my coke. Then I had my own taxes to prepare and I volunteer doing taxes at an AARP tax center for low income and seniors. I did check the organization forum here for new posts, but did not realized until today that our most active leader is not able to keep up with things on the other forums since she is taking care of her grandchildren in their home while the mother is having difficulty with an expected birth of another child (now 2 weeks past due) and high blood pressure. Please bear with us and pray for LHLADY517's daughter and expectant new baby.

Hi, I'm Maria and I am a recovering slob. Not to make light of AA or NA, I kind of feel like this is my addiction and I am working to fix it.

I have a house which is disorganized. My child is home-schooled and we have moved every 2 years. To make matters worse, we chronically move into fixer-uppers. The house that I currently live in as well as my last 1880's Victorian had no, or very little closet space. Imagine a house where the closets were so narrow that you couldn't fit hangers in there.

Now for my Achilles's heals. After a couple of abusive relationships, I met the husband of my dreams 10 years ago and I had my daughter 7 years ago. I am just now able to part with some of the things that I was holding for sentimental reasons. My other issue, saying "no" to tasks. People think I have all the time in the world, but getting lesson plans together for my daughter, church groups and two websites that I maintain take up a lot of time. I really have no me time.

My mission, for which I hope that Sparkpeople can help me with, is to get control of my storage-less, under-construction home and create an environment which is healthy for my family.

I never knew that this group existed, but I was excited since this is one of the areas of my life that really need help.

Hi, my name is Dawn from Missouri. I have desired to be organized for most of my life. I have tried to follow so many systems. What I always lacked in fitness, health, and organization has been consistency. I started consistently tracking my exercise and my eating with Sparkpeople about a week ago. I know that I will be much happier once I am organized and healthy.

Hi I'm Liz. I USED to be an organized minimalist type person. But then I met this tall handsome man and moved in with him. Hahaha! Shows how much I love him, I hate clutter and I have moved into utter chaos! He inherited his mother's house. It's full of her stuff and now his stuff. I can't even say I "just" moved in. We've been trying to declutter and organize for a year. We are making progress but it's still not to my standard. I am hoping this group keeps me motivated!

Once you stop living, you start dying.... I ain't got time for that!!

HI,
I used to be anal on organization. It probably had to do with the fact that my brain is very disorganized, so controlling my environment was one way to gain control in my life. However, this last move that was done about 4 yrs back, it was done while I was in severe pain and quickly, so I did not have time, energy or strength to de-clutter prior to the move. As a result I have 2 closets full of "stuff' and I've successfully avoided the boxes through these years. I hate the feeling that things are "undone", so this year I want to focus on getting the boxes sorted through, figure out what to keep and what goes out the door. I started this last Oct/Nov and was slowly moving through the living room, got out about 3 dozen dvds that I don't watch, and that's where it stopped. It's time to get back on track and once I'm feeling better, my focus will be one box per week (min) until it's done.

Hello!- I too will be moving and am looking for a house to buy/rent. My DH is a packrat and having had all 4 kids and homeschooled for some of the time - well! 2 of the kids are in high school and 1 in college and 1 just quit college and is back and forth home-
Anyway I am organizing and decluttering and also in need to carve out space and time to get back to learning illustration and to put a portfolio together-but for now I need to clear space!
Also need to lose about 50 pounds and I am turning 53 this year

Hi! I've been on SparkPeople for a while, but sort of got serious about it again in the fall. Then slacked a bit over the holidays and now I'm back at it. Like MARCIAC10 I'm going to be moving soon too! Though not quite as soon. DH and I are planning to try to sell our little condo in the spring and move into a house or townhouse. In the mean time we've got a bunch of little projects to get the place in shape to sell. Nothing major, just little things. And a LOT of cleaning. I also want to declutter as much as possible and move as little as possible! I hate feeling cluttered and in our little condo it doesn't take much random stuff piling up for it to start to feel that way.

I have struggled with time management for years, with health issues making things complicated at times as well as DH's tendency to make messes and not want them to be cleaned. Twenty five years in this house and his areas are a mess, while my areas are much better. I do clean out my closets and shelves yearly, but there are two bedrooms and his side of our bedroom that I can't clean due to his piles of things!
So now we are moving and it will be a fresh start. I am looking forward to this as it's the only way to force him to clean out his stuff and he's already started. As well, we'll be moving into a bigger house with more storage which will also be helpful, as some of his stuff that is stacked up are tools, can be stored away much more easily.
So with a new house in a month or so (negotiations are starting) I look forward to organizing a new space and keeping it maintained. And keeping DH from messing up the new house. Since we probably won't be in it more than a couple of years, that will be my reminder to him when he is tempted to start piling things up! (Find a place and put it away or get rid of it!).
And with being more organized I have to manage my time better, which is my biggest challenge.

Marcia

Hi, I'm Kelly. I've been on and off SP for a few years. I started organizing and cleaning on a regular basis in October 2013 using a cleaning App I DL'd. I have been doing pretty good keeping up ever since. I thought this team would be a great addition to keep me motivated. I enjoy organizing...but I'm better at making a mess. Just cleaned out the pantry this week and the freezer. I have been able to purge some major stuff recently as well from the basement to make room for a workout room. My next visit is my closet. I am donating all the things I have not worn in over 1 year. Plus the weight is coming off and I need to make room for my new wardrobe.

Ladybug, Sorry about your loss. Glad that you have your full time job to get you through. Good luck with the cleanup, decluttering etc. Look on the positive side and see if you and your husband can get the place into as good or even better shape than before.

2014 is going to be My Year!! I have been a SP member since Nov 2006. Apparently losing weight and trying to maintain is going to lifelong journey for me.
2008 - I worked part-time, I was at my ideal weight and going to the gym several times a week. Discovered a love for weight lifting. Life was Good!!
Fall 2009 - I either had to going back to work full-time with my current job or find another job. I sadly and relently went back to work full-time.
Spring 2010 - I agree to my husband buying a small resort and I would be his bookkeeper. Owning and operating this resort had been his dream since before we were married.
So now I am the mother of 3 (16,12,4). I have a full-time job plus a part-time job, which could easily be full-time during the spring and summer. Life is extremely busy and stressful!! The resort is more seasonal and definitely has it's ups and downs. The biggest downer being the flood of 2011. The flood totally wiped out the business and we had to rebuild after the waters receded. The resort was surrounded by water and out of business for 10 months.
We have been in our current home for 10 years. We need to repaint, deep clean and do some Major Decluttering or we need to move. Moving always forces you to declutter, right? But moving is not a feasible option at this time so Decluttering it is!!
I am working on decluttering the junk in my life and the weight......all while trying to keep up with kids (now 19,15,7), family business and a full-time job.

Welcome, JYGETSFIT! I love your idea of breaking rooms down into sections if the whole thing is overwhelming or too much. And I also love your goal to make your house "visitor" ready.

This is a fun team and most of us never tire of getting something part of our life in better shape. So rewarding afterwards too.

Hi, I'm Jenny. Most of my goals lately are all about weight loss and health, but this other goal I haven't really told anyone about yet is to clean/de-clutter one area of my house each month. Some rooms in my house are worse than others so I might have to break them down into halves or quarters. One way or another I want to feel like I would not be embarrassed to have unexpected company and I just want to feel like I can breathe easier.

I decided to begin an indoor exercise program at my home. Goal is to do 40 minutes of strength training 3x a week, 60 minutes of cardio one time a week, and yoga 2 times a week. To improve on my consistency, I will get my exercise done first thing in the morning before breakfast. For accountability, I will track my exercise minutes on Spark people.

Hi! I'm Jennifer, and one of my goals for 2014 is to declutter my closets and garage. I saw this team and was excited to see all of the tips and support on the message boards. I can't wait to get started so I can de-clutter and simplify my life!

Hi, I've just come on board SparkPeople a few days ago after many years of not being on here. My goal for 2014 is to declutter my home and make it inviting and welcoming so that I'm no longer embarrassed to have anyone come over. Hopefully seeing everyone else work on their organizational goals here will help keep me on track.
For the month of January I hope to have my kitchen straightened out. It's very cluttered and dense with stuff so it's going to be a real challenge.

326 Days since:  Inertia - decluttering every night now.

Hey everyone. I've been a team member for a little bit, but never really jumped in, so here I am...jumping in. I live in a pretty small 2 bedroom basement suite with my 13 yr old daughter, but we're sooo happy here I won't think of moving. So I need to find a way to make the space work for me. Part of it is going to be putting things into storage that I just don't have space for. My closets are FULL and essentially unusable for clothing right now so I'm trying to go through 4 boxes a month, purging and storing. I have a bad habit of letting things get too bad before doing anything about it. I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism and treatment is working GREAT, so now that I have some energy to burn, I need to aim it at my home. Cool! Sounds like it would be better to keep January mostly in January. I'll go to Amazon and check it out!

Oh, Magnolia - That sounds interesting. Can we join anytime or is it geared toward starting the project at the beginning of the year?

Hello!

I'm doing spring cleaning but for the New Year!

I might move this year, so I have to get things in order and reduce the amount of things I have.

I live in a small apartment with only one closet! So my place looks messy all the time because i don't have a way to put things "away" out of sight (esp vacuum, suitcases, coats and boots). This is a challenge!

I'm doing The Happiness Project and cleaning clutter is part of that book. Join the SparkTeam for The Happiness Project if you're interested!

Hi Maggie!

Love your goal of seeing the closet floor - I might steal that one myself. :D

Hi Brenda! Oh, to simplify and organize! Every time I start, something happens and I'm back to square zero.

God grant me the serenity to change the things I can, to accept the things I cannot change, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Hi, My name is Jacqueline and I have been on SP for about two years. Haven't been on the boards in awhile and I'm interested in this because I need to lose weight and get organized. I can't wait to join you all on this journey.

Thank you for the great tip! I didn't know that either, and I can use all the help I can get with technology (and organizing)!

This weekend I commit to getting rid of my weekly recycling that I didn't get put out for curbside pickup on Thursday. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Sandy

Thanks for pointing that out. As long as I've been a Sparker, I didn't realize that.

Welcome Sandy! This seems to be one of the most active forums I've joined so far. I've been enjoying reading everyone else's goals and accomplishments for each day. One thing I only just discovered in the past week: Underneath the Team Stream on the right, is a set of red links - the one that says Links takes you to a page with article and website links relevant to the team. So for this team there's an organizing website and a few related Spark articles.

Happy Decluttering!

Hello! I am new to this team and am hoping to find encouragement and ideas for cleaning out my basement. I'm divorced and am blessed to have bought a house a few years ago, but items have just been accumulating in my basement. Some boxes have been unopened since I moved into my house, plus I've put a lot of things down there that I don't want to deal with (not sure what to do with them). My main living area is pretty neat and uncluttered (on most days). For some reason, I am having trouble getting motivated to work in the basement - guess I'm probably postponing all of the decisions that have to be made there.

I have never posted anything on Spark People and I am not good with technology. I'm hoping that this goes to the right place! LOL. Merry Christmas to all of you!

I've been on SP for about 3.5 years. I also tried Flylady in the summer. I agree - great concept, but the emails were unbelievable. I've been struggling to organize my condo and my life for about a year and a half now. Time to get serious - the new year approaching is a good time to do it.

God grant me the serenity to change the things I can, to accept the things I cannot change, and the wisdom to know the difference.

I started to get into FlyLady at one point and I really loved the concepts they tought - but yeah, the emails! I unsubscribed and then I didn't follow through quite so much. I wish there was a lite or medium setting for the emails! But now I'm back to getting organized and getting started again :)

Hi!
New to the board, not to SP.
I used to use a site called FlyLady to help me organize, and while it was a great start, the constant emails were a little overwhelming. But it did give me a plan that I still sort of stick with.

I KNOW for a fact that my whole family benefits from organization from my son and husband to my 2 dogs!

Hoping to pick up some tips and tricks here and to share whatever I can.

Thanks!
Fran

Hi, my name is Anne and I just joined this team.
My house is totally cluttered and needs cleaning.
It is to the point where there is so much to put away that I don't even know where to start and then I get anxious and frustrated and end up doing nothing but sitting on the computer and the time flies by.
I have MS but not to the degree that I can't unclutter and clean. I am lethargic and have mental clutter.
I am also married to someone who has SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and is no help at all.
My problem has come to the point where I have to run an errand and then decide to run more errands and then end up shopping looking for deals that create more clutter. It seems to have become an escape method and I think, Oh, well, there's always tomorrow, but tomorrow never happens.
My father-in-law remarked: It looks like a bunch of teenagers live here. So true, but it did put a smile on my face.

I'm new to SparkPeople - just joined a few weeks ago. I saw this thread and thought, "I need an Organized Life!" Spending 15 minutes a day on cleaning/organizing is my #SparktheSeason goal so here I am!

I've lived in my house since May 2006 and my son and dogs and I have really managed to trash it. I get on little sprints now and then, but I need to build a momentum and sustain it. My house has looked like it's under construction since I can't remember when! I want to make noticeable progress before my sister and her husband come home for the holidays and that's two weeks away - AACK! I also need to achieve a certain level of clean/organized so that I can make family photo magnets to give out as gifts this year. That's my top priority and getting up Christmas decor is my 2nd. I've got a very busy weekend ahead of me!

Hi, my name is Susan and I have a hard time getting things organized and clean and keeping them that way. Yesterday I made a weekly schedule where each day I have cleaning tasks to complete. I am hoping that this will help me get and stay on top of things better. Has anyone else tried this?

I've been there and done that but I finally got myself moving. My parents moved and gave me my childhood home. I had one room that you could barely open the door. The basement was a disaster area. You can't look at the entire house and garage at the same time, it's just too overwhelming. I sold a lot of things on ebay and I didn't do anything with Craig's list but that could work too. Start in a corner and progress from there but don't expect it get taken care of in a few weeks. I have been working on my house for probably 4 years now and I can say that I have taken back the house. I'm still a messy Bessy but I can use all of the rooms in my house again. I even found over $300 while cleaning, you would be surprised what you find in coat pockets. I can now have people come over and visit, instead of pretending I'm not home. You can do it but start small. emoticon

I moved into my parents old home and I've been working on cleaning it out ever since. You would be amazed with the number of trips to the dump and the Salvation Army. I've been going bit by bit because it was too much to attack all at once. It's a work in progress and it's great to see the improvement. I actually have storage in my house, I need to organize my kitchen cabinets but I'll get there. I'm going to clean them out, sand, and stain them. I need to do sections at a time, so I want to get at least one section done this weekend. emoticon
