I've been a member here for a few years, but I left in 2010 due to my mother's illness and death , and didn't get back. I ended up gaining a lot of weight. I decided it's time to get my act together and get healthy - again. I'm using the Belly Fat Diet by John Chatham along with SparkPeople.

Organization was always my strong point, but lately, I seem to have lost control. Getting things back to normal can only help me so this forum seems like a great fit! I look forward to reading your posts and getting to know you!

Hi, my name is Laura and I am from the Chicago area. I have been a member of SP for awhile but have been MIA for a couple of years, so I thought I would reintroduce myself. I really struggle with organization, and tend to procrastinate on the things that really need to get done while staying busy with the unimportant but less stressful daily tasks, like laundry, dishes, etc.

This week I set a long-term goal of decluttering my house 50% by Labor Day. I have no storage space at all (no garage, attic, shed, basement, etc.), so things get out of control quickly. Right now I really need to get my son's room cleaned out. He moved away to college 4 years ago and just left a huge mess in his room. It has really become a dumping ground for everything we don't have a place for (so easy to just close the door!), and it has gotten to the point where I can't even walk in the room any more. My son is coming home for surgery 6/15, so my action plan is to have his room cleaned out by then. I have been telling myself I am going to get in there and clean/organize for half an hour a day, but I haven't actually done that yet. emoticon I would appreciate any tips on how everyone organizes their time to accomplish large projects.

Thanks!

Laura

Hi my name is Jineane and I live in Canada. I have been with Spark People for about 5 years and have lost (and regained) and been discouraged - but I keep plodding along. I am recharging my plan and focussing more on good habits than what the scale says. Looking for some motivation to tackle some bad organization habits and make my living environment serene and enjoyable.

Right now the house is a mess. My grandma has decided to get rid of a lot of her books and she does have A LOT. Once the sunroom is repaired we are doing a major clean sweep. After that Im going to organize this house and spend the whole week cleaning and dusting every inch of it. After that I am going to have a set schedule so that I just have to spend an hour a day to keep this house clean.

I feel like a dirty person when I see all this clutter and dust on the moldings. I grew up in a house full of cigarette smoke, pet dander and hair, and clutter. Once this is done I will feel so much better about everything because when I do look around I get so overwhelmed and stressed.

I have great difficulty avoiding mess - getting rid of it and getting in order and keeping the order.
Now I got the idea with before and after Pictures for each member of the team - at least myself
I am going to have a guest for some days soon so it would be nice if my mess is not to be the main subject

Hello, I am 59 and trying to get my life in order before I turn 60 in August.

My husband works from home and I work from my studio in addition to spending several days each week working outside our home. My husband and I have lived in our current home for 10 years and I know there are boxes in the storage area that have never been opened since our move. Our youngest daughter (20) has flown the nest this past year and I really need to convert her bedroom into a comfortable guest room, but that entails going through all the stuff in there and boxing it up for her to decide what she wants to keep and what I can donate or pitch.

My goals are to lose 30 pounds, incorporate exercise into my daily routine, and organize (get rid of the extra stuff) our home before my birthday.

Hello, I'm Rebekah. I am on a quest to lose 53 pounds. I am in desperate need of organization! I try, I really do, but with 5 kids, (4 left at home), a hubby who travels for work, and 2 jobs with various shifts it is a challenge. Today I plan to make a menu for the week and buy all needed ingredients. I need to get as organized as possible.

Hello my name is Latisha and I just joined this group. I can use some order in my life right now. I consider myself to be organized, but lately I feel there is just so much to do at home, at work and at my kids school with so little time. I am hoping to find some good tips to help me get back on track. I have to be organized in order to keep my whole life in order which includes my wonderful husband, 2 sons, my mom, 2 dogs and cat - Yes, they all depend on me in some way or another daily!

While I know myself as a creation of God, I am also obligated to realize and remember everyone else and everything else are also God's creation.

I am new to this team and hope I can find some new ways to stay organized. My husband and I have three daughters, two dogs and two cats. Our house can be very busy and hectic at times. I work part time and need to be motivated to clean and organize when no one else is home. I am hoping this team will show me how to stay on top of everything. So that saying "That when Mama is happy - everyone is happy" will fit our family!

I've always struggled with time management & have a tendency to take on too many projects. I'm slowly learning that it's okay to ask others for help & to delegate. I also tend to be an all or nothing sort of person (which is good & bad).

I'm a perfectionist when it comes to being organized, but sadly when I get stressed out, it all goes our the window! Lately it seems that I'm always stressed & now I don't even know where to begin to get things back to how they should be.

Looking forward to being a part of this team! When I found it, it sounded like just the place I needed to be!

Hello Everyone, I've been an ADD "Messie" my entire life and since I've gotten my weight somewhat under control (over 70 pound shed)l, I've decided that my clutter and disorganization is the next burden I have to shed. I've already started, to the point where my hubby is noticing and I want to keep the momentum going. Glad to have found this group emoticon

Hi everyone! I came across this group linked in a "New Years Resolution" spark article! I actually just wrote a blog about getting organized for 2015. Actually my goal was specific to - stop the piling! I'm a piler. I put all my paperwork in to different piles through out the house. It frustrates poor DH, so together we're going to work on not piling in 2015! :) Looking forward giving and receiving tips, ideas and of course motivation and encouragement!

I came across this team when reading another Sparker's blog post. Couldn't resist checking it out as, even in retirement, time management and decluttering are still at the top of my list of struggles.

As a writer, I find myself wanting to be at the computer working on my book, another project, emailing writing friends, and checking Twitter to see who said what phenomenal thing today. Well, that doesn't help time management or organizing and/or decluttering.

So, here I am. Looked things over and see where in planning my goals for 2015, in my writing and other life combined, this group can be very helpful and instructive.

Look forward to meeting some of you.

As the new year approaches and I ponder my life and it's up-coming New pending stress (entering Graduate school) I realize that I need to get my life organized.

I believe that inconsistency not only effects how I take care of my body but also is responsible for the way in which I manage my life in general. I'm sure that in many ways it all stems from much of the same subconscious (self-sabotaging) behavior that keeps me from losing weight.

My Goals:

!. To simplify my life (by tossing things that are un-necessarily existing in my life).

2. To get my paper-work organized e.g. having a filing system and dealing right away with mail and bills.

3. To organize my closet (clothing is always a problem *especially laundry *I'm terrible at keeping up with it all).

4. If I DON'T USE it.. to LOSE it. Simplify, Simplify, Simplify...

I believe that simply enough that if my life were more organized that I would have less stress and feel more self-satisfaction. I would have more room for things in my life that have meaning *like playing my guitar and doing artwork! I also love to hike and would like to get back into running! Life is too full to live it disorganized.

Hi all! I live in a tiny apartment that serves as an office as well. Things from the club cover all my dressers and my storage room is so cramped for space its hard to move in there. I just recently got rid of all unnecessary papers, make my personal one drawer filing cabinet easy to get into and clearing out half a storage box. I can't get rid of the club stuff, I am stuck with it and will pass it on to the next manager should I retire. They have a 2 drawer office cabinet, printer and lots of paper which takes up most of my free space with office supplies as well. What I need to do is get rid of anything not used. My problem is my Mom keeps giving me things I don't need. I did declutter my clothing successfully though.
All the best with your goals everyone!

Hi! My name is Kayleigh and I just had a baby about five weeks ago. Organization and time management are important to me and I am feeling a little overwhelmed because I feel like I am loosing grip a little. I guess my biggest goal right now is to juggle taking care of an infant and working on getting into some sort of organizational routine again. I was never organized growing up, but in married life I have learned that it is essential for things to go smoothly.

Specific Goals:
*Continue menu planning. Add veggies and side dishes to each meal.
*Complete "daily draft" each day to prioritize what needs to get done and when I'll do it.
*Consistently maintain a cleaning schedule.
*Figure out and implement more ways to make things easier in my household.

Hi, I'm Christina.
I just moved from a flat to a regular type house. The house is a big mess and part of the floors, curtains and lamps are not yet in place. It makes me realize how important it is to organize.
Seeing what a lot of unnecessary stuff we had when I packed the boxes for the move, I hope to do better in the new house and throw things out that we don't need, and do more cleaning.

Morning!

My name is Steven. I'm a short story writer, but , one day hope to change that to short story Author.

Wife and I are both retired high school teachers. As any other retired school teachers know, you can never really retire from that vocation.
I still teach 3 classes at the local community college, and wife now coaches the competitive theatre and speech teams part-time.

Most of our domestic retirement time is restoring, refinishing, repurposing our 105+ year old home.

Hello everyone! I'm trying to get organized, unfortunately it's hard for me. What's really embarrassing is that I only work 15 hours a week. I should have plenty of time to organize myself, but I look around and feel overwhelmed and in the end don't do anything.

I'm looking forward to being a part of this team!

Hey there! I so need this group lol! I love the peace that comes from a well organized home/life, but unfortunately that's not a word that usually describes life! When it is organized, it generally doesn't last long! Hoping to get some good ideas and motivation here!

We just bought a 3 bedroom house, coming from a 1 bedroom apartment. I am determined to keep the house clean, organized, and functional. I'm so grateful to be in a house and I am viewing this as a fresh start for a lot of things in my life. No more excuses like, "We're not going to be here long. What's the point in organizing now?" or "I can't exercise because the workout room is crowded, the street is busy, or the neighbors downstairs will get mad having to listen to my jumping jacks." or "I don't have room to store foods for healthy meals. And produce is too expensive. I'll wait until I have a garden."

So here it goes! I'm going to walk with my dogs, keep my home clutter-free, cook more, and learn to garden! I'm excited!

Boy! Do I need this team! My house is a cluttered-up mess and my life is pretty disorganized. I am not so sure I can handle another team, but I am willing to try. The clutter in my life is causing me stress, so having a goal to spend 15 minutes a day de-cluttering and organizing should be good for me.

emoticon Good Morning!
I had a terrific day yesterday. I cut away the dead evergreens that died this past winter...orange evergreens are dead Fred.
My rib didn't like me using emoticon the loppers...I guess. Planning to transplant a rhodo there and some shade loving plants: Lady's Mantle, wild ginger, etc.

I also picked up a 3 tiered bird bath fountain that I need to re-finish.
I am working on getting outside to enjoy a bit of every Summer Day we have. Last night was so clear for emoticon star gazing too! Have a great day today!

Hi Everyone! I'm so excited to have found this team! My name is Tonya and I have been on the weight loss roller coaster all of my life. I got married last August and felt good about my body and where I was weight wise but decided I was just going to watch what I ate after that and not go on any more diets. Well I have since gained back just over 30 pounds since then so here I go again! I also LOVE to be organized but have to say I'm not very good at it! Lol! I just finished my degree in Health Sciences and my husband and I have 3 home businesses so I really need to get going on the organization front! So I was happy to find this team and look forward to what it brings! Hope everyone has a great day!

Hello everyone! My name is Kelly and I am in the midst of getting it all organized!

I have been married for 20 years, I have three children, we also have three dogs. I have just recently started really organizing my life. I've always kept a pretty neat home just not very organized. So chaos would reign for a while and then it would all get neat again. It's been a roller coaster, but worked for us. As my kids are getting older and all three will be graduated from high school within the next 3 years I'm hoping to talk my husband into downsizing our home. For that I need to get organized and decluttered. I'm loving this team so far with all of the tips and motivation.

I will be turning 40 this year and want to feel better and start our empty nest years in the best shape of my life.

Looking most forward to taking my husbands breath away!

Hi all! You can call me Nay. I am 41 and wanting to lose about 60 pounds. My partner and I recently went from living in her mom's basement, in a tiny bedroom, to living in her great grandpa's mobile home after he passed away last year. This has been both a blessing and a curse.

We spent a lot of time upgrading the furniture and appliances, but also added a lot of stuff in general. We are classic enablers to not keeping our home clean and neat. Would love to find tips on how to dive in... always feels like it will be an episode of clean sweep. And I didn't even mention the fact that we have 2 storage units.

Always looking to add positive people to my friends list emoticon

Hi veryone, my name is Karyn. I rejoined SparkPeople for health reasons, and found this group intriguing because of the picture of the color coordinated tank tops hanging in a closet. Two years ago we moved from a very large city home to a very small modular home in the country. Although we got rid of rooms full of stuff, I still haven't found a place for everything. Last week I decided to find my summer clothes, sort the sizes and decide what to do with/store where and get rid of anything that is too big. Well the winter clothes are still sitting on the spare bed and I have out of town guess coming on June 20. So with the help of this team I hope to get back to my normally organized self who respects order and organization. I lost her somewhere two years ago, but I liked her, so please help me find her.

Hi!

I have been on SparkPeople for a while, using the fitness trackers especially. I am writing my dissertation now, which is exciting not just because I will be achieving a goal but because it gives me the opportunity/motivation to really focus on organizing my thoughts and actions (not that I have been a complete hot mess until now, but focus has been on collecting data, reading like crazy.,,,now it is time for me to take all the data and information I have been accumulating and make sense of it). Some ways I am doing this include...

1) I have a spreadsheet made for a specific type of study so that I can compare methods and findings across the many papers I have read/am reading about that specific topic.
2) I have been working on making just index cards for other findings, grouped for the moment by what behavior is being studied. So, for example, I have a card for Drug-Seeking Behavior and on it is a brief list of what things affect it, with the citation info,
3) I am making a spreadsheet with the different instruments people use in their human studies, like different diagnostic measures etc., so that I have a quick reference for what exactly each one measures, what kind of population it was made for, etc.

I am also in the middle of losing weight and getting more fit. It is a good time for me to make it a priority because my daily schedule is a little more flexible than it has been in years because now that my main focus is reading and writing, I can do that at home or in blocks of time throughout the day (meaning I can take breaks to work out, shower, and return to office if I want).

My short-term goals are to read 2 papers/day until...sometime? Haha. And organize my notes in the spreadsheets and notecards as mentioned above. Then of course my longer-term goal is to complete and defend my thesis by the fall!

I am really focused on managing my time wisely because I have seen how time gets away from us students when we have so much to work on and aren't on as structured a schedule as we are when we are actually running experiments.

Hi everyone my name is Rachel and I joined SP for accountability in my weight loss journey. My goals include losing 85 lbs, running 2 miles by this December, and simply to be happy with myself. I feel that when my surroundings are mess that is a reflection on what my brain and emotions are. So in order for me to feel calm and content my space around me has to be somewhat organized. Well I hope to get to know you and hope you all reach your goals! Best Wishes emoticon emoticon

Hi everybody!! My name is Debi and still fighting the battle of life it seems. I have had so much trouble working full time and taking care of myself and home. My goal is to do something everyday so I don't have so much on my days off. I would rather just get a clone.

A day at a time, this will happen. God first!!

Hi! My name is Elizabeth and my goal is to reclaim my apartment. Included in this goal is cleaning out the closets, clearing out extraneous items from my bedroom and creating a peaceful, clutter free home. I am convinced that retraining my mind to focus and breaking down my projects will help me make meal preparation and exercise a priority as well. Now where did I put my keys?!

Hello, I'm Jes. Once upon a time I was very well organized and both my home and workspace were always neat. Those days have flown out the window and I want to get them back! I'm getting married in October, my fiance is a packrat and doesn't keep things organized at all, and my stepkids follow in his footsteps. It seems I'm picking up his habits more than he is mine, and I want to reverse that. My goal is to have our home decluttered and organized before he gets home from his deployment so that it will be easier to keep it that way once he's there again. I have about 3 months left, so I need to get moving! Oh, and speaking of moving, we'll probably be doing that within the next year as well, so all the more reason to minimize possessions now!

- Jes

Hi all, I'm Lesley and have been a member of Spark since 2010. I am always trying to get a handle on my time management. Maybe I can get some tips!

Hi There! I have been a procrastinator since birth. I have a garage that I can barely walk through with who knows what. That needs to change and is at the top of my hit list. After that it's bring some organization to my fixer house. I've been here five years and never seem to find the time to do the things I want to get done. Time management is the bane of my existence. I hope to change that!

Hi! I'm Patty and I've been on SP since June 2010. I still can't quite get my weight and my life to where I want it to be. If I had a nickle for every time I said I need to get organized, I would be so rich!

God grant me the serenity to change the things I can, to accept the things I cannot change, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Hi! My name is Lea. I am a 22 year old stay at home mom. I'm on Sparkpeople to help me lose 5-10 pounds and to keep me motivated to keep making healthy decisions once I'm where I need to be. I am a full time student taking online classes and with two toddlers running around the house I often get behind with the housework.

I hate cleaning my kitchen and I will avoid it like the plague. We have a chunk of counter space that we tend to use as a catch-all and so even when all of my dishes and things are clean, the kitchen is still a mess. I'm hoping to find some cleaning tips and tricks to make things go by more quickly and efficiently that way I can keep my house clean with my busy schedule.

Donna, you shared a fantastic idea re a household binder to hold important papers, appliance infro and the like. Also, since you have been away from Spark for a while and just started again, you may not be aware of a page on Spark that gives access to informative articles and videos in the areas of nutrition, fitness, motivation and wellness for a healthy lifestyle makeover. Hello! My name's Donna. I'm new to the team and am restarting on Spark after a few years away.

I have so many goals, including organizing my household, that I am creating a master plan list to help me keep track of things.

1. Making a household binder for archives/emergencies - to hold important home docs, appliance info, major purchases, insurance, etc. Trying to gather everything together into one binder so if I have to vacate the house in an emergency, I can grab this and will have the important stuff.

2. Making a house project binder to track what needs to be done and for each project what needs to be bought (supplies to DIY), smaller tasks to complete the bigger project, etc. SOOOO many things to do around my new house!

3. Have a list of other misc organizing projects to do, like organizing the car (glove compartment & trunk), making an emergency kit / food / plan, etc.

I can already see there are lots of great ideas in this team, so I'm looking forward to reading & hopefully contributing!

I have a ton of organizing things pinned on Pinterest, so I'll share a few if I find them useful.

Anyway, hello!
