Yeah, Best Buy gave me the speech about how I needed their $45 HDMI cable to hook my Xbox to my tv. Since I was at a midnight release and they were closing, I bought it, only to see how cheap the cord was EVERYWHERE else the next day.

I also got the audio wire needed with the HDMI cable, but my surround sound isn't new enough for it. emoticon

Go to reviewing sites like cnet.com to find out about all sorts of electronic equipment. They have professionals reviewing with input from the general public. In general, an HDMI cord is an HDMI cord. All the bells and whistles make a nominal difference at the professional level. For us gamers and amateurs it isn't worth the money at all.

Check to see if your local hardware store carries any. We have an electronics outlet store near us, and we only pay $5 for our HDMI cables.

The price difference in the cords is based on how much output the cord can deliver. Higher speeds are usually needed for 3D Tvs.

That is incredible. I don't get why they are so expensive. I saw one at the store today for $46.

I have a Dollar Store here in Edmonton AB, Canada that sells HDMI cords fro only a dollar. They are also gold plated.

I echo what you are saying, Amazon is the best bet for cords like HDMI. They are gold plated like the expensive Monster cables, for much cheaper. This is where Best Buy, et al. rake in the dough, by over charging for these cables.

To everybody who is buying or is thinking of buying an HDMI cable to connect an Xbox to a TV, DON'T buy those horribly overpriced ones at the electronics store. They charge $50, $60, and up, when you can get a perfectly good one for just a couple of dollars via Amazon. I've bought several this way and they are identical to the pricey ones. The last time I bought one, I went ahead and ordered several so I had extras on hand for when we got some new equipment.

Just FYI.

I'm going to be getting a new TV. emoticon (happy dance!) My niece asked me how I was enjoying my new XBox. I told her that I had to get a TV or a cable to hook it up to my computer, so I hadn't started using it yet.

Well, it turns out they have an extra TV. She will be dropping it off here on Friday. She even refuses to let me pay for it, saying it's a gift! emoticon emoticon

Thank you for your answer. I don't have a TV, but I'll ask my nephew about the inputs and set-up, and get back to you on it. Thanks again!

Does your computer screen have an HDMI input? If so, you would be able to order a $6 HDMI cable from Amazon and you would be golden. If it doesn't, let me know what kind of inputs you have or what your setup is. Do you run TV through your computer or screen?

I was looking forward to trying out my new Xbox with Kinect. I thought I could just plug it into my computer screen (I don't have a TV). But it turns out I'll need to buy a 50$ cable and other gadgets to make it work on my computer. Or buy a TV. (Don't have much room in my small apartment.) I might enlist my nephew's help in setting things up. Guess I'll just have to wait before I can try it out. emoticon
