Hello! I have been doing Art of Strength classes (Intensity) since September 2013 and our gym is officially converting to Crossfit in the next couple of weeks. The trainer has been incorporating Crossfit workouts for awhile now, but last week we did "Linda" aka death by bars. Whew! That was tough, and I did scaled down weight. My husband joined my gym last June and began AOS classes, lost about 60 lbs and encouraged me to try it. We now go to classes 5 mornings a week and love\hate every minute! Looking forward to getting to know fellow teammates here. I'm active and a leader of the At Goal & Maintaining team, where we post daily check ins. I hope to learn a lot here!

Hey all,

I'm new to CrossFit, just two weeks in, and LOVING it! I've been longing for a sport where I could feel competitive and supported at the same time. BINGO! CrossFit is the answer!

My goals are:

1. Get stronger!
2. Lose some weight (I'm at 138 and would like to be closer to 130)
3. Get stronger! Did I mention that already? I think it's important to have twice because my #2 goal only stands so long as it doesn't interfere with #1. If I'm feeling good about myself, no reason to try to starve or do anything else to manipulate the arbitrary scale number.

WELCOME to all of our group newbies! Sorry, we aren't the most active team... I have been trying to find another leader to take over, as I am pretty busy dealing with some personal stuff and unable to devote the time needed to be a leader (but I have stayed on so you ladies are not completely left high and dry).

For those of you who are new to CrossFit-
welcome, it is an amazing community!

If you are looking for a "box" or gym-
most boxes have free or low cost "on ramp" classes where you can get a taste of what their WODs (workout of the day) feels like, I would suggest going to one of these at ALL of your local boxes. Also go watch a regular WOD, meet the people, watch the coaches interact with their athletes.

Trying it from home-
Checkout the main webpage http://www.crossfit.com/ they have daily WODs written for you, I also have a blog of my daily WODs, just message me if you want the link.

New to Paleo-
Remember the first 30 days are a cleanse to get your body "right" so just doing it for 30 days and then adding everything back in at once is not an ideal thing. I do a 3 month process for my athletes to add things back in and would be willing to share if you message me.

I just joined a box for the first time in Aug. 2013 and I am loving it! My husband has been doing it for a couple years and I would join him on occasion but I was unable to attend regularly until now. As I tell my husband frequently (and he agrees) it is like we are kids again on the playground. It is a lot of fun!

We are also eating Paleo and I have just resently started being strict about counting my carbs. I am hoping to get to my goal weight by May. I sure hope that I am able to accomplish that!

Hi! I have been CrossFitting for a year....I absolutely love it! However, I need to lose about 80lbs. I love to exercise (but I work 12 hour shifts= 14 hour days with drive time) so I only do it 2-3 times per week. Lately, asthma has been a pain in my side for the past 6 weeks, so have had to extremely scale WODs back! I am new to SP. I look forward to getting to know all of you, putting the pieces together, and look/feel amazing......

BTW I will be 41 at end of January and I am one of the "mature" ladies at my box.....

Hi XF Ladies!
I started doing XF in May this year. I'm the oldest one at my box (46 yrs)... and it was very intimidating for me. I can only go twice a week due to a crazy schedule with work and kids, but I try to do 1-2 other HIIT workouts at home during the week. I've gotten SO much stronger in the past 6 months. I can't believe how quickly I noticed changes with crossfit.. that alone made me never want to stop!

I don't have a lot of weight to lose...I just want to feel great and (yes, I'm a bit vain) I want people to look at me and KNOW I take care of myself. Also, having a mother that has limited mobility due to not taking care of herself and tons of back problems, I can say that I DO NOT want that to be my story!

Happy to be here.

Hi there, I don't belong to a crossfit gym but my personal trainer is a crossfit competitor and he has me do what I think are crossfit type of workouts including Olympic style lifting - which I love. So I'm joining this group and hope to find out more about various WOD and this Paleo/eating clean thing...hoping this will help me lose my last 15 lbs.

My first CrossFit class is this coming Saturday. I'm looking forward to it!

Originally I had a Half Marathon goal - which I completed in May of this year! 2 hours 18 minutes! Unfortunately I also ended up with Achilles Tendonitis.

Now that I'm cleared to get back into physical activity; I'm hopeful the varied routine will prevent the repetitive overuse type injuries. :) So excited to be back in the fitness groove!!

Made my way to single digit sizing one veggie at a time. :)

Hi I'm Laura and I've been doing Crossfit since early June 2013. I LOVE IT! Its one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life! I've done everything between elliptical, treadmills, step classes, hip hop classes, yoga, and walking. I would stick to it but I would get bored and give up when I didn't see results. I had friends nagging at me for 6 months before I finally joined and I'm a convert. I feel strong for the first time in my life. My confidence and self esteem has sky rocketed. The current goals I am working on: 5 strict pullups unassisted and linking 10 double unders together.

Hi everyone!

I've been doing crossfit for awhile but an injury/surgery has sidelined me for awhile. I still have some limitations so I'm working with my xfit coach independently until I can get back int the group setting.

I decided to join the group because well, I love lifting heavy weights but also could use some inspiration/motivation outside of the gym towards my weight loss efforts.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Hi, I just started crossfit this week and it may be the most wonderful thing I've ever done for myself. I'm completely hooked and love that my company has made it available for us because I never would have tried any other way. And THAT would have been a shame. Women of crossfit definitely equal strong!

Hi everyone!

I've only been doing crossfit for a week (and it was my introductory week) and I'm really enjoying it! It's so incredibly difficult but I actually feel like I'm doing something more beneficial to me than just walking or doing a workout video at home. Some of those (all of those) workouts are killer though!

Hello all! I'm Linda from Rhode Island. Just joined the group. I used to do crossfit years ago and then had to stop for financial reasons. I just found a new box and am super pumped. I've been going for about 6 weeks and am loving it!

Hi. I'm Anne. I'm from NH - no crossfit gyms in the area but I've been doing home exercises (from WODdaily) for a few months. I figure we'll eventually get a gym and then I'll be ready to join. I've been following a mostly paleo lifestyle for about 6 months - it's tough with 3 others in the house who eat EVERYTHING and lots of it, but I'm trying to stick with it. Looking forward to learning from others on this team and sharing the journey with you!

Hi there,
I'm Amy, I'm from Cape Town and just recently joined a Crossfit Box here. Been going full out for the last 3 weeks and enjoying it so much.
We did WOD Annie this week Tuesday and I have been in so much pain ever since. It was brutal but I still went back emoticon
Looking forward to getting fit and ready for our summer here.
Cheers. Have fun!

Hi :) I'm Kate. Just starting my first month of crossfit WODs with the big kids after my month of Elements classes... Right from the start I had a mixture of nervousness/excitement that still exists, but I'm totally loving it! The scale is tipped a bit more in favour of the nervous side after I saw today's WOD, but I'll get over that. My fav. one so far was a team WOD of 175 burpees, 400m tire flip, 175 hand-release push ups & 1750m row. I really like tire flips and rowing. No one really likes burpees...
I'm also into the Paleo life and have been for almost a year and a half. I originally got on board with that after hearing a pile of success stories from other people with MS who were as living Paleo.
Enjoy your WODs everyone :)

Hello. I just joined a cross-fit gym 3 days ago but have been eating paleo on and off for about a year. I had been wanting to check out cross-fit since starting paleo, but was a little frightened by the intensity of it. I have a friend that goes to this gym though and she loves it so i decided to join too. After my first workout on Friday, I have been slowly healing from my incredible soreness. lol Looking forward to going back tomorrow. emoticon

Hi! I took about a 2-yr spark break while I was working for the gov't because I didn't have regular internet access at my location. I did really well during the break - actually saw weight loss and lean muscle gains, and I believe it was all due to finding crossfit and paleo during that time. In May 2012, i reached my all-time low weight and body fat percentage, and then I got pregnant!!! I am re-joining spark because since January, after I gave birth to my second child, Annie, I feel like I haven't been able to lose the fat I've gained. I DID crossfit throughout the pregnancy, and was able to maintain a lot of my strength and stamina, but I did NOT maintain a paleo diet and gained 50 pounds anyway. yikes. (well, at least it wasn't 65 pounds like I gained with my first child!)

So, I'm back on Spark because I know that any fat loss that I've seen was due to a) logging food, b) competitive environment (such as the Whole Life Challenge), or c) because I made it public and had to be held accountable. I'm using spark for a) and c).

I recently read Why We Get Fat by Gary Taubes, so I'm going to try to employ a low-carb paleo approach to my life. I'm struggling right now because ultimately, I'm super impatient. While some of my 'fat' pre-preggo clothes are starting to finally fit, I'm still the same weight I was 2 months ago. Instead of focusing on the fact that my clothes are starting to fit, I'm still focused on the scale. dumb. And, that frustration spills over into my nutrition, and I say screw it and eat a piece of cake. what is wrong with me!? ;)

Regarding CrossFit, I started July 2011, got my Level 1 in October 2012 (when I was 21 weeks preggo (woohoo)), and am an assistant trainer at my affiliate. I also do the retail for our box (shirts, merchandise, etc). I finally got my hubby to start CF in Sept 2012, and just yesterday was my son's first CF Preschool class! Starting him early!

Anyways, I keep my page private just because i don't want the entire world to be able to read my blogs, or see my bikini photos (the ones on there are YEARS old, and I can't wait to post new 'before' photos... give me a few months) - but that doesn't mean that I'm not open to making new spark friends!!! so, please feel free to send me an add request.

I'm so sorry, I forgot to reply! LOL

On-Ramp went really well. Unfortunately, I've been having tummy issues since I graduated and have only been able to go to a regular WOD twice. This morning I have to do math homework (I've been sick all week) and I have class the next 2 days, so I'm hoping to get into my routine later this week. It's been frustrating, but at least I know what the cause is. CrossFit will be there for me when I'm all better! I learned I just have to be super careful with what I eat!

I just started CF, have been doing it for a month of regular WODs, but only 2 x a week. Because now it doesn't make me so tired, I want to do it more, which I will do starting next month. I've found some good travel WODs online, which I do a couple of other days, to improve my strength, and skills like squats, situps and pushups. (This is my advice for someone downthread).

I am so sorry that I have not properly welcomed you Shonda, Annie, Jenna, Alecia, Anne, and Beth- I just finished my first competition and training ate up a lot of my time the past few weeks. I was checking for new members, but I was looking for new threads, not at this specific thread. So sorry. It is great to see so many new faces and so many different stories. Good luck on those of you about to start you On Ramp and first WOD, and welcome those of you who know the drill and are used to the sweat and soreness already.

Hi! My name is Beth and I'm just starting Crossfit. I went to open gym today with my husband (who just completed On-Ramp!) and I LOVE it! I'm already signed up for the next On-Ramp class which starts on May 6th. I don't know how I'm going to wait until then! I will say my muscles are rather sore, but I feel like I'm bouncing back quickly. I feel awesome!

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all!

Hi! My name is Anne and I'm 36 years old. My husband has been doing CrossFit for about 4 years and recently decided to switch "boxes" (variety of reasons - but basically this new one is closer and has better training). I finally made the plunge and joined with him and so far have just completed 3 of my 4 foundations classes. I'm half terrified/half excited to do my first real WOD. But first things first - gotta schedule that last foundations class for sometime this weekend. At the very least, I feel more comfortable at the gym and not so out of place. But most of the members are very young (in college) so most times, I am one of the 2 or 3 oldest people there, and usually always the only beginner. So, it is kind of intimidating and kind of exciting all at once.

Hi!
So confession: I'm not a crossfitter, but my bf is a level 1 coach & he suggested we do the Urban run in Austin next year. I think the event for this year just passed this weekend. Of course, we're always talking crap and challenging one another, (I challenge him to 10ks and obstacle runs and he challenges me to do toes to bars and muscle ups, lol).

Anyway I looked at the video, and the race looks like a TON of fun, it also looks like I'm gonna get crushed if I don't train for it, so here I am. I'm a grad student, a broke grad student, so I can't really fit joining a box into my budget right now. My equipment is meager; some adjustable dumbells, an 8lb medicine ball, a 15lb kettlebell, a couple of jump ropes, a yoga mat, a pull-up bar, a body ball and an aerobic step. I also have access to local parks (monkey bars & jogging trails). What can I do?!!!? Help me please, help me please (in my Pops from Friday voice).
But seriously, any input you have on how to maximize my resources and get trained up for a crossfit inspired event would be greatly appreciated!

Hi! My name is Jenna and I'm 31 years old. I went to my first CrossFit class last night. We did a warm up, doing 10 different "walks" dinosaur, russian kicks, over-under, bear, and then did "Death by 10 meters" for 20 minutes. After that the coach just showed me how to "roll-out" my IT band, quads and my hips. I liked it and I'm planning on checking out another gym tonight (found one closer to my house that I didn't even know about!) I would like to post my workouts as I learn what the lingo means (right now I have no clue). As far as Paleo, I have been eating Paleo for 1 week today. I feel great, no grain or dairy cravings and I'm having fun eating "pretty" food and trying new recipes. I might be breaking some of the rules and not being strict enough by some people's standards - but I think I'm doing pretty darn good. Excited to meet others that are doing this too. So....hi!!!

Training for:
Spartan Sprint - Pac West- 8/2/14
Spartan Beast - SoCal - 9/13/14

Hola! I'm Annie.. 51yo.. 297lbs... and just completed workout #19... I'm not doing the classes, I'm doing 1:1 training with a Coach. It is literally changing my life. I'm eating Paleo and loving it.. this is both the easiest and hardest thing I've ever done..

Today, for the first time, I identified myself as a "crossfitter". It doesn't feel comfortable saying it yet because I feel like I should be able to be in the class.. but.. well.. I feel like I'm earning it - sweat droplet by sweat droplet. I am working HARD.

Looking forward to getting to know y'all.

Good Morning, Ladies! I'm sort of a newbie to CF. I started March 13th 2013 so for about a month 3x a week. I'm loving it! I started because I wanted to shock my body into losing weight. Ha! I haven't lost any but I'm stronger and I feel better. What are you ladies doing for nutrition? I really need to drop 30lbs at least. I don't want to stop CF!! It's addictive! How many days a week do you ladies do CF?

Good to see you Pamela! I am 56. I agree it - it is amazing sometimes what we "oldsters" are capable of!
Good luck!

Hello strong, wonderful fellow crossfit ladies! I just joined this site today and am excited to see a crossfit forum, this is the first forum I have ever used!
I have beed crossfitting for the past two years and love it, the past 6 months I have been rehabing after (2) knee surgeries (not due to crossfit) it's been a hard and slow comeback and my coach has modified every workout for me to help my knee and I finally feel like I am almost completely back :)
I am the old lady at my box, I am 53 and the rest are pups, but it feels so good being able to keep up with the young ones and sometimes kick their butt:)
Due to rehab and not being able to run for a year, I have gained weight and am here to get it off, our box is starting a 30 day Spring clean and I am signed up for it, and instead of going strict Paleo and I am going to try the strict zone approach.
I look forward to this forum for the encouragement and hopefully I can help someone as well...
Thansk...Pamela

Glad to have you with us. 5 months is a good chunk! My friend that got me into it described it as "you'll want to die and then it's over."

Glad we have a new leader! I never really participate in groups, but I am going to try and stick with this one!

I have only been crossfitting for about 5 months, but I absolutely love it. I get bored with the same routine quickly, and crossfit is anything but routine! Even after the worst workouts where I say "I will never do this again", after I've rested, I'm more excited than ever to go back.
