Thank you all for your words of encouragement. I always work through lunch because my prep is never my own! Will definitely try the sanity breaks and the cruciferous snacks!

I often work through lunch and ALWAYS through my planning periods (I have to 3 students that I have to assist in general ed classes so they have me doing it during my planning - they pay me BUT it is REALLY stressful not to have a break and was NOT really an option either even though I was given the opportunity of saying NO in such a way that it would have been difficult to work if I had said NO. Taking those mini-breaks has really helped and the gratitude piece helps me to remember that there ARE wonderful blessings all around me.

Oh, and like everyone else says - healthy snacks in my desk, purse, gym bag, car, etc.are ESSENTIALS also.

I keep Special K bars and apples in my classroom so I don't feel tempted to reach for chips and candy in the faculty room! Good luck!

I have to force myself not to work through lunch most days. I have been trying to take a break to walk around the building inside or out depending on the weather. It really does help!

I hope I don't offend anyone by what I am going to say, but for me, the MOST EFFECTIVE thing that has actually worked well this school year is taking a 30 second prayer/gratitude/serenity break several times a day to reduce the stresses. My job is somewhat stressful - middle school special ed teacher of students primarily on the autism spectrum AND who are mostly all residents of a facility that is sort of a last resort for families who can no longer deal with the violence and aggressions of their kids and/or who have had the children removed from the home due to abuse or neglect. I started by scheduling 30 second breaks throughout my day and then added the extra ones whenever I found myself ready to blow. During those 30 second breaks, I say a silent prayer, express some gratitude for something in my life, and then ask for help to remain compassionate.

I was super skeptical at first but for the most part, it is working. Unfortunately, I have recently found myself slipping and forgetting the scheduled and sometimes failing to recognize the need for one of the unscheduled breaks - and my world has gotten chaotic. I am committed to going back to doing this again starting tomorrow at school - it REALLY REALLY HELPED before, I need to REMEMBER that ESPECIALLY in stressful times - like the past few weeks - I NEED to remember that it WORKS.

With love and caring from Nancy ... wishing all of you a wonderful, blessed, and precious day.

Hello,
I teach 8th grade math in an underprivileged urban school on the east cost. I've been a member of Sparkpeople for several years, but I new to reaching out. My biggest obstacle is to stop eating when I'm stressed.
