The movie is surprising true to the book, and had the same effect on me. I'm glad you liked it.

I don't think I ever read the Secret Garden. Gonna put that on my to read list. We recently watched the movie which was made about 15 years ago. So beautiful, everyone including SIL and grandsons, who saw it for the first time, loved it.

I think that's cool. Probably ten or so years ago I reread The Secret Garden. I had loved it as a child. When I reread it I was not at my happiest, and I felt like it gave me some kind of encouragement, or solace. It was long enough ago that I can't point to anything specific, but I know it was the book I needed at that time, as an adult.

I have been revisiting Alice in Wonderland. I'm not sure why, but I just really missed that story of my childhood!

Took a personal day today and went to the library where grandson #3 started at Kindergarten Readiness group. He clung to my daughter, but was able to join the kids finally by the end. Hopefully, next week he'll begin to become a bit more independent.
Anyway....finally took out Tuesdays With Morrie which I've been wanting to read for years. Now this is a great day off!

I should re-read A Wrinkle in Time. I re-read The Secret Garden maybe ten years ago. It had a whole new meaning, or maybe I just better understood what it meant to me once I was an adult. Or maybe I was reading meaning into it, because I needed it to be there at that point. Whatever the case, I loved it.
While these are not books, if you have the opportunity, I highly reccommend the Hollow Crown series of four of Shakespeare's history plays, starting with Richard II. Right now in the States I think YouTube is the only place to watch them, but I think PBS will be airing them this spring.

That's so cool. I taught kindergarten/first grade and absolutely loved reading all those books. I still do. My grown-up daughter and I still enjoy reading aloud to each other.

I recently re-read the Madeleine L'Engle stories that start with A Wrinkle in Time. So much fun and good writing too.

Oops, forgot the E on Louise.
When my boys were little and we'd come home from the nearby library with armfuls of story and picture books they could always pick one each for us to read before naptime. If they didn't happen to pick the one that most interested me, I would usually read it on my own while they napped....

I think I'll check out (no pun intended) some Louise Penny books. I enjoy reading kids books too. I just LOVE books.

I just started reading Louis Penny. I love her settings. I want to live there (minus the murders).
I am part of a discussion group at our branch library and we have read a few YA novels. I'm kind of surprised by their sophistication. In some cases, I wouldn't know a book was geared toward young adults if I hadn't been told.

Hi - for a good mystery have you read any of the Inspector Gamache novels by Louise Penny? I'm a fan of her style. I'm reading the YA poetic novels by Ellen Hopkins. My librarian recommended them for the people I work with who are coming out of prison and trying to improve their reading skills. They are amazingly well written and relevant no matter what a person's age.

I just finished Alice Munro's latest book of short stories Dear Life. Very Good. Before that I decided to re-read Anna Karenina. I think I'm going to move on to a murder mystery next. I need a break!

I'm still around. Just finished Fly Away Home by Jennifer Weiner and am nearly done with Flowers in the Rain by Rosamunde Pilcher.
Using the computer at home is like going back to work for me so lately I haven't been posting too much. Maybe I'd be able to get back on track again if I did; I'm just so dang tired. I'll try to post more.

Hello!!

I'm Kate, a lover of audiobooks (ok, I prefer real books - the feel, the look, the scent... I have been known to sniff a book or two *lol* Maybe I'm weird) but find it hard to find the time to read a book, so often I listen while working out or doing chores.

Hoping to find some good discussion and suggestions, and have fun meeting other bibliophiles! :)
