Hi I am new to spark people and the team. Hoping to find a weight loss/ support buddy. I just signed up for planet fitness in Newark and would like to work out with someone. Planet Fitness is relatively cheap, no contracts to sign, $10 a month. I am aiming to lose 100 pounds or more.

Hey! Did you find a walking buddy yet? I have never been to Iron Hill Park but, I sure do love shade! Anyways, when are you available to walk maybe we can come up with a schedule. I hate walking :-( But my Doctor said I HAVE to get more Vitamin D and this weight off and its the easiest exercise so I would like to have a partner to be dedicated to and keep my on the same track. I feel like I fit the bill!

Newark, Delaware resident checking in.
New to spark people and team.
Hey everyone, I have been suffering from obesity for some 25 years now (41 now). I just told myself that it is time that I need to make some changes to my eating habits and exercise habits. I need to keep the motivation going. That is a challenge for me. I am hoping to find this website very useful and find a few weight loss buddies on my way. I weigh now 335, not proud of it with some medical issues going on with me. My doc told me if I lost at least 50 pounds I would not have these problems such as hypothyroidism, sleep apnea, hyper tension

Plenty of people ride bikes at Glasgow Park. Just make sure you have a bell that can be rung to let walkers and joggers know that you are approaching. I love this park and have run it often. Enjoy!!

I just found this site a few days ago and have been busy exploring what the site offers. How encouraging to find others from Delaware along the journey. Am looking forward to loosing 12 pounds over the next year. After spending the long winter months at the gym on the treadmill and using weighs, I am finally back outside running in the early morning. I love running early in the day and listening to the wildlife cheer me on!!

Actually I am still walking, even with the bad weather. I work the midnight shift at Christiana Hospital. I don't know if you've ever been there, but the building is huge. I actually walk inside, from one end of the building, (including through the MAP buildings and the Surgi Center and even manage to use the steps at each end. I jog up and down the steps at each end of the bulding 3 times. It is actually a better workout than I've been getting outside, and because I work the overnight shift, I don't have a bunch of eyes watching me to make me feel subconcious, But I do miss the fresh air when I walk outside.

Welcome back! Not sure about whether you can ride your bike on that trail, but walking at work is a great way to fit in exercise. Are you still walking with how cold it has been? The weather put a stop to me walking during lunch this past month.

Hello Everyone, I'm not new to Sparkpeople, but I am just returning. I am a 56 yr. old man who lives in New Castle. I mostly walk around the parking lots of Christiana Hospital, (where I work), I walk on my breaks. I also have a road bike and I like to ride around the New Castle area. I would like to try walking or biking at the Glasgow Park. It seems that a lot of you walk down there.Can anyone tell me if they allow you to ride your bike around that walking trail?

Hi, my name is Lynda and I am 54. I live in Bear/Glasgow area, married and have four grown children. I started gaining weight about 10 years ago and since then have repeatedly loss and regained the same 20-30 pounds. I have no support in my family for my weight struggles. Hi my name is Dawn. I live in Newark near the Maryland line. I am 45. I am married to a great man and have two grown daughters. I have three grandkids ---but I am a young granny. I had a serious health issue three years ago and have put on lots of weight while recouping. It is time for me to get fit and active now. Doc said walking at least three miles a day is what is best for me. I would love a walk buddy to keep me honest on my walks and hold me accountable--- if I want to emotionally eat and sabotage my slow progress. I do have my five year old granddaughter living with me but she likes riding in a stroller so I can walk at a steady pace. I would love to walk Iron Hill park because it is shady and quiet. Hello all, how goes it? I'm new (obviously) and joined for some added motivation. I live in bear/newark. Married 6years in June. We have two girls 4 & 5. My husband works out about 2hrs everyday. I used to be the better one in shape even though I didn't have to work for it. Now that I'm the career woman and my metabolism is catching up to me, I need to get fit, and get fire quick. I know the longer I wait the harder it gets, and I've put this off long enough. I'm .5'8" 138 but there's no muscle. I gained weight intentionally (was119 but felt like I wanted to be curvy-er) but now I need to control my weight and sculpt my shape. my husband can't help, because he's a guy and I don't do negative reinforcement. Ive been scaling back meat, but now I am cutting it out until May, but will allow myself seafood once a week. I jog and do and circuits at my work gym when I have time. I'm mire than happy to meet up for a jog or class just let me know.

Hello Everyone! I am a high school teacher, married with a son. I have struggled for 20 years with my weight. I have had success, but always seem to fall off the wagon. We got a dog last spring, and I am using him to de-stress and take nice long walks, as my eating habits suffer a lot when I am overwhelmed, which is almost always! I have every exercise video under the sun, and plan to work out in the basement where we have an elliptical and weights. (I never use the weights, though I understand strength training is valuable.) I am tired of paying for gym memberships that I use sporadically, at best, so this time I am being realistic.

I wake up at 5:30 for work and cook when I get home, so fatigue is my biggest challenge. I don't have the energy for workouts. I would love some support and advice, from someone neutral :-)

I look forward to seeing everyone on this forum succeed!

Hi! Happy to be returning to SP. I was doing great about a year and a half ago, lost 20 pounds and was feeling really great! Then I got a new job (and started commuting an hour) and got a boyfriend...put that 20 pounds and then some back on. Time to get back into shape. I'm in the Newark/Bear area. Starting by going on walks at Glasgow Park with a friend (trying to convince her to do some interval training...I know walking isn't going to do me any good without cardio, sigh).

Is anyone familiar with Anytime Fitness in Governor's Square? I'm going to need a place to go as the days get shorter, but personal recommendations would be nice before I take the plunge.

hello my name is kathy also an i am a new member to sparks an i am still finding it confusing to figure out but it gives me some thing to do with all my time over the summer. i also live with cronic pain in my back plus my groin an knees so it is hard for me to exercise but i did just join the ymca in bear but it is not always easy for me to get there. i am looking for a email friend to help me lose about 60 pounds. i 69 years old so i think i may be a bit old to try the surgery route so i was hoping just makeing some lifestyle changes an watching what i eat will help . i have also recently joined the newark chapter of TOPS an meet with them on thursday evening, knowing i have to get weighted in every week helps me stay on my diet. you must feel very good about yourself aftering losing all the weight you have an only 30 left to go. i hope someday i will know that feeling. keep up your good work

hi all! My name is Kathy, I work full time and along with trying to loose the remaining 30lbs, I am also dealing with chronic pain issues for which I am under physicians care. I try to get to the western y when I can. I really enjoyed the Arthritis with Attitude aquatic class when I can get to it. I underwent gastric band surgery last July and have lost 75lbs to date. I am married and have 2 grown children and live in the Pike Creek area. I am finding this site a bit busy but my realize site is closing down at the end of May. looking forward to loosing the last 30lbs and keeping it off!!

Hi Everyone. My name is Brandi. I am new to Spark People. I have been doing Weight Watchers over the last several months and have lost 18 pounds. However, I am tired of paying the membership fee! I live in the Newark Area. Like many of the other people that posted on here, I go to Glasgow park fairly often to go for walks/runs as well as the YMCA right across the street. I figured I would try posting on the boards for some extra motivation to lose those last pesky 10 pounds that I want to lose. I want to do it before my wedding this June and have to wear a bathing suit at the beach. If anyone ever wants to meet up at the park, I'm game. I sometimes go there during the week and can meet up on the weeknds.

SparkLIVE! are online weekly meetings with coaches. You can participate by audio and video or written chat. There is a weekly topic and take home documents and challenges. It was just really neat to participate in a meeting with others from the comfort of my own home. They also record one meeting each week that you can watch if you miss a week. It costs about $13 per month which is a lot cheaper than Weight Watchers. I've enjoyed Weight Watchers but i can't always make those meeting times and it cost the same each week that SparkLIVE costs each month. If you're interest, go to your Spark Points page and under one time challenge (I think) it will say subscribe to SparkLive! Oh, you also get points for registering and points for each meeting attended!!!!

Hi all, Back to SparkPeople after a few months away. Glad to be back! I live in Pike Creek (between Wilmington and Newark) and go to the Western Y with my husband- but not as much as I should. I would like to lose 37 pounds and just did my SparkLive orientation this morning. It's a really fun real time video chat meeting - I called it Weight Watchers in Jammies!!!

Hi All. I was told to introduce myself so here goes.... I'm a happily married Mom of 14 year old twins, I work FT, am active in my church and my kid's activities. I used to do Weight Watchers and had success with that but as I get older it is harder to lose. Plus, the cost of WW has become something I'm not willing to pay now that I'm not at goal anymore. I live in North Wilmington and recently joined a gym that I am enjoying. I try to live honoring God in all that I do.

I live RIGHT BY Glasgow Park, and my dog would love it if I took her there more often - but neither she nor I care for the cold very much!

When the weather gets warmer, though, hit me up if you want a Glasgow Park buddy. :)

Good morning all!! I love in the Newark area and love walking my dogs at the Glasgow park. Three kids and two jobe keep me pretty busy though and this awful weather keeps me in the house more than I wish
