Would any of you mind if I write in all caps? It is just too difficult to read what I have written when the print is so small. I have vision issues.

Is an iPod considered to be a tablet or a phone? I would love to have something that I could put in my purse when I go somewhere that requires waiting. A heavy book is often too difficult for me.

I love my iPod Classic! It holds as much as I'll ever want it to. iTunes keeps it all in order in it's library, ready and waiting for me to download, organize, 're-read', and all.

I find that I listen to two types of books - the mindless ones that I can just listen too while doing something else (like Spark) and the ones where I don't want to miss a word. Those I usually listen to while cooking. I have to cook sitting down so it takes me forever to get things ready and then get them going. So I have some CDs in my computer and some in my kitchen boom box. Works for me. What I really need is something that I can carry with me when I am out walking. Not sure what that would be but I am looking into it. I know someone in electronics that can probably help and get me a discount besides.

Nancy, I'm so pleased you've gotten relief from the anxiety attacks -- they are the most intolerable of any misery I can think of! Do enjoy the reunion, and make wonderful fresh memories for all of you.

I'm driving into Connecticut tomorrow to go to a cousins' reunion. I haven't seen these cousins for over 25 years. I have memories of all of them and am afraid I'm going to overlay those memories with the ones I make tomorrow. Someone, in some movie, once said, "Don't mess with the memories".

It's a five hour drive each way to this reunion. All in all, I'm nervous and excited about the whole day. I should just relax and "go with the flow".

Tomatoes here looked promising, but have yielded nothing in this hot-hot summer. Perhaps cooler weather will come before the plants actually croak, and we'll get a few fruit.

Tomatoes aren't the only ones being unproductive this season -- this summer has been one of the least personally productive I've experienced in a long time. But then, I have taken on major volunteer work, and have been working with that, so perhaps I only need to adjust my viewpoint a tad.

We had a couple of strong thunderstorms yesterday. I hope the rain will help the green things grow. Our tomato plants are filled with either tomatoes or blossoms. I can't wait to eat fresh-from-the-garden tomatoes.

I spent an hour listening to my book over the weekend. I should have realized that, it being non-fiction, the story would be familiar to me. It's about Hitler's Germany and I've read so many books about that, this one is getting boring quickly. I'm hoping that, since it's about the American ambassador during that time, the story will focus on Ambassador Dodd and his family. I know nothing about him.

I was thinking about that too, now that I'm taking a bike ride probably 2-3 times a week. I figured I would just count how many steps I take in a half hour walk, then count that many for a half hour bike ride. Of course, I remembered to wear my pedometer today (total = 14k steps) but when I went for a walk, my book was at the grand finale so I just kept walking, and the walk was more than my usual half-an-hour so I'll have to wait for tomorrow to see how many steps it is!

I wear a pedometer every day. My goal is 3,000 steps. I'm retired and don't walk much. In order to get to 3,000 steps, I need to go shopping. Or take my dog for a walk.

I have a similar question, but about an exercise bike. I wear my pedometer on it, but it doesn't convert the revolutions to "steps". Maybe if I count the revolutions in a minute, that would tell me how many "steps" I took during the ten minutes I was on it.

That sounds like a truly amazing flight. I can't imagine what it must be like to see a fire from the air - kind of awesome and also very frightening. I hope you aren't getting too much smoke - we have had a lot of smoke up here and I have had to cancel outdoor exercise on several days just because it was so icky (and hot too!)

As to step rate on aerobic steps, I think it would be best to just time yourself for one minute, then multiply by the number of minutes you do. I would guess it averages 100-150 steps per minute? However, it is nice to have a pedometer because it really helps you realize how many steps a day you take doing other things! One of the great things about a "steps per day" goal is that it helped me realize how much the other activity throughout the day adds up.

The Chicago conference was busy and stimulating. I attended because I have recently formed a local group, which has generated some interest here, and in a surplus of enthusiasm, I decided to be even more involved. Compassion & Choices is a national nonprofit working to improve care and expand choice at the end of life. I needed something to concentrate on outside my own household, and this seems to have been a good choice.

I must say that the night flight home was a visual feast that nearly let me forget the miseries of air travel. All below was black, with patterns of light in towns and tracery along roadways. The moon was nearly full, and reflected off the rivers and rainwater water below like slithering of mother-of-pearl. Little random flashes of colored light turned out to be fireworks in all the little towns! Nearing my desert world, a giant circle of fire, like a glittering wedding ring, showed me we'd had no rain yet. Then, when coming into El Paso, there were great pink flashes of lightning strikes. Wow! I had planned to sleep, but watched the show instead.

We flew recently and found the same thing, that the plane was a loooong walk away from the ticket desk.

I was wondering... how long on an aerobic step makes 10,000 steps? It's too ridiculously hot and steamy here to go out for walks except in the early morning.

He was a tubby little chap who looked as if he had been poured into his clothes and had forgotten to say "when!"

Judith, I visited my daughter in Arkansas in May. I had to change planes in both Detroit and Atlanta. I've never seen so many people! And my gates were almost 2 miles apart.

I'm going to have to have a real good reason to fly again!

How was your Conference? What brought you there?

I'm so happy I went to the Compassion & Choices Conference in Chicago, and I'm so happy I am back home again! Also very happy that I endured O'Hare airport, because Midway went down and out during the power blackout.

Happy July!!

Did some minor chores around the house today--so now it's time to enjoy a cold glass of iced tea.

Hot here also -- but also very, very dry. There's a possibility of isolated thunderstorms tomorrow night. We really could use some rain.

Hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of the holiday week!!

I'm here, too. With my coffee. In my air conditioned den.

Is everyone going through a heat wave? Our temperatures are reaching 100 degrees. And it's supposed to stay that way through the 4th of July. Our tomato plants are about a foot high and one has tiny tomatoes, too. So I keep watering them hoping they'll make it.
