Hi, my name is Florence. I just today, Black Friday if you please, bought a Sony ereader. Got my son to hook up to my WiFi but haven't quite figured it out yet but it is an amazing tool. I can download books from my library plus I have a Sony MP3 player where I can borrow cd's to listen to. This is great as well.
Now I just have to get busy. I have a book on order from the library so have to read that first before I carry on with my reader etc.
I belong to a readers club and I pay over $20 each month this will save me so much cause it is all free.
In no time I will have paid for my reader.
The authors I like are, Celeste Bradley, Nora Roberts, Debbie MaComber and Diana Palmer...Quite a few others but these come to mind right now. The book I have reserved at the library is by Celeste Bradley.
Having Sjogrens Syndrom listening is sometimes better when the eyes get out of whack.

Hi
I am new to both Spark People and to this team. I find myself listening to books a lot as well as reading some. Listening I can do while doing something else. There are never enough hours in the day to get everything done that I have to do. And getting awakened during the night to handle something else, really messes me up. Listening to books (especially while cooking) is VERY relaxing for me - although I rarely listen to calming books. LOL I try to be an upbeat, non-judgemental person. I have seen far too much of the dregs of society to make that totally possible, but I really do try. I hope to hear about lots of new books that I haven't read yet and meet some new people.

Hello Gizmo and Welcome! It is great to have another member!

It is so awesome that you are going to school and learning about psychology. I am sure that is a fascinating subject to study. I do not envy you trying to lose weight at the same time as dealing with the stress of school though! However, you are right that the most important thing is to just keep working at it. If we stop trying we will never succeed!

Do you like the spark cookbook? I have considered getting it since I love cookbooks and I have really liked several of the ones I got off of sparkrecipes.

In honor of your joining and since I need a kick in the behind myself, I'm pledging myself to stick to my sparkrange and eat only healthy foods for the next week. Let's see if we can do this!

I I'm new to Books by Ears. I love to read and in 1999 I started to loss my sight. I was loss. With the help of my state I was able to learn ways I can still read. I'm now legally blind and have a Victor reader steam this is my second one my first one died on me. I have SD cards and down load my books. I listen to just about everything. I'm also in school full time online. My classes last five weeks so if I'm MIA for a while it just means I have a paper due. I'm studying Psychology.

When I not studying I'm helping my dad with my mom who is in sage 3 the last sage of Dementia along with cleaning the house, and cooking. I have the SP cook book and make one thing so far I on the other hand have made lots of SP recipes.

My weight goals are to get back down to 124. So far it's not looking good. I been with SP since March. I started at 186 went up to 197 then 184 now I' m at 191. It's sad but I keep working at it.

Wanted to stop by and say "thank you" to the team for the "Coffee" SparkGoodie. Nothing goes better with reading (listening) to a book than a good cup of coffee.

Although it took me quite awhile before I checked out my first audiobook from the library (which happened to be "John Adams" by David McCullough), I now make sure to have a stack of books readily available (always making certain I have one to start when I finish my current selection). Audiobooks have introduced me to a whole new dimension of reading enjoyment. Never did I imagine the manner in which a good narrator could so vividly bring a book to life.

As a brief introduction: My husband and I live in Michigan, have been married over 30 years, and currently share our home with 3 pets (3 pets, mind you, who graciously allow us to cater to their dietary wants and needs, and lifestyle comforts). Although I no longer work outside the home, I have no problem whatsoever staying busy and occupied -- never feeling bored.

Looking forward to being a member of the team!

Hello, everyone. I'm living just outside of the Great Smoky Mountains Nat'l Park here in the southeastern US. When I discovered that my local public library had books on tape/CD I went nuts. Now I have to be more patient, since our (only) cassette tape player died, and I don't have as much time for reading OR listening as I'd like. (I'm in college, job searching, and I've got a young one to keep me hopping.) I really want to get an mp3 player to start using during walks/hikes.....

Welcome! It's always good to have a new audiobook lover on board! I don't know how I got along so long without them! I am very psyched because it is actually going to be in the 50s today so I am going to go for a walk and listen after I get back from running errands! Let us know what you're listening to and how you like it!

Hi, I'm Cheryl and so happy to find this team!

I'm a huge audiobook lover. I have so many favorite authors...Dean Koontz, Patricia Cornwell, Nora Roberts and Catherine Coulter (none of the romance ones), Ted Dekker, Lisa Gardener, and the list goes on and on. Oops, I forgot Janet E., the Stephanie Plum series

I'm always willing to listen to new and different authors.

Welcome, Cathy! I've always been curious about the Isle of Man -- you'll tell us what it is like, won't you?
Choose one or more of our Team Goals, join the December 2010 'No Frills, Again' Challenge, chat in the Cafˇ, tell us what you are listening to now, and recommend readers or books that you think are exceptionally good. There are 'threads' for each of these topics, and more. Don't forget the Huddle. Greeting Team members is an important, friendly thing to do, helping our Team to be more welcoming to us all.

Hi, my name is Nancy and I've been an avid audiobook person for a long, long time. When I was working, I had an hour commute so I started listening to books on tape. I listened to most of John Grisham's books that way.

Now that I'm retired, I decided to try audiobooks on my mp3 player. I download them from my library using Overdrive Media Console.

I'll be back often to check out new audiobooks and your comments about them.

I live in southern Ohio and we are getting our first snow of the season today. Just flurries but it gets me more in the Christmas spirit. I grew up in Indiana, took a detour to Dallas, Texas for a few years and ended up in Ohio just 3 hours from the rest of my family in Indiana. I have two grown children, one granddaughter and another one expected in late January. I live with my husband of 6 years and a black cat named Salem. I work full-time in HR for a military manufacturing company. I am so glad I found this team. I love audio books and am always looking for more ways to get them and use them.

I live in southern Ontario with my hubby. We don't have any pets because I'm allergic. (I wish I could have a dog.)

I love to read. I'm definitely a reading addict. It's irritating to have to stop to do other things. :-)

I read children's, YA and adult books - usually fantasy, mystery, scifi - or non-genre books on recommended reading lists.

I also love to sew. I wish I could figure out a way to make a living either writing or sewing (especially costumes).

My husband and I sing in a church choir. I'm always nervous about saying that because I find people often make too many instant assumptions: right-wing, anti-gay, super-religious, and I'm none of those.

I'd actually rather play in a band or orchestra than sing because I prefer instrumental music, but I'm too lazy to practice alone. LOVE the energy of being with people who love music.

For that matter, I LOVE the energy of being with people who like to write and sew too.

Very nice to meet you! I had wondered about the yucca in your picture, as I lived in New Mexico for a long time! I graduated from Carlsbad High School and went to UNM for undergrad before moving away for grad school. Now I'm happily settled in the Denver area, which I love a lot except on the days when it snows too much!

We are a small enough team to actually get to know each other, and I'd like to do that, so I'll start off__
I live in southern New Mexico with my husband and pets. The two of us are from the Upper Midwest, and now retired. I was employed (when I could be) in social services, beginning as a county social worker, later a career counselor, and ending as a counseling psychologist. My studies were in German, studio art, library, and psychology. I did the usual underpaid teaching and research assistant tasks. My husband was a professional classical musician for an eternity.
Our pets are a 12-year-old sweet cat named Gracie, a 4-year-old bossy cockatiel named Emma, and a rescue black lab mix just turned two, named Abby Bear. Abby is the best dog ever, and my heart's buddy. The pets have never done a lick of work.
So, now I'm old, and I'm dealing with the reality that, not only don't I know what I'm going to do when I grow up, but I'm also pretty sure there won't be time to do it if I should figure it out!
I decided to climb out of my rut by taking charge of my health, hoping it would lead to greater balance and serenity in my life. I am making progress, and am grateful to my Spark colleagues for their support and kindness.
My interests are: the natural world with all its plants, animals, clouds, weather, and rocks; literature and biography; classical and folk music; problem-solving of all kinds; and friendship.
