"The medial collateral ligament is the ligament that connects your thigh bone to your shin bone..It is located on the inner side of the knee and is therefore often associated with pain inside the knee (inner knee pain) or pain down the side of the knee"
The images I saw shows it faces forward, but on the inside of the knee.

I recently had some pain in my knee cap area & after searching the internet I figured it was runner's knee. I took a few days off & have been fine ever since. If you pain is continued after having taken off a couple of weeks, your best bet is to see a sports doctor.
Hi. I just found your team and thought I would see if anyone has experienced knee pain while running. It's on the inner side of my right knee cap. I'm fairly new to running, but I did just complete a half marathon. I took a couple of weeks off and when I started up again - ouch!! Applying ice and rest hasn't helped. Any ideas? I appreciate your input.
