Hi! Thanks Sadie and Cindy for the welcome to your team! I've been a member of SparkPeople for quite a few years now, with my skin cancer being a new development in my life. I've struggled with my weight all my life and living here in California, it's always been hard, not everyone here is fit and beautiful, as the media would have you believe! I've had the Mohs procedure for two basal cells on my face, leaving two scars. :( I'm going back to see if there is anything else, so I'm having a lot of anxiety about the end result of all this.
Anyway, I'm 47, have 3 children, two girls, 24 and 20, and a boy, 17. I've been married to my wonderful husband for 27 years.
I'm looking forward to giving and getting support from this team. :)
Have a great Saturday!
Food is not my friend. It doesn't encourage me when I need it, it doesn't hug me when I'm sad. Food nourishes my body and keeps me healthy. I'm putting food in its place!!
Hi Louise - Thank you for sharing your story, so glad to hear you are going on two years cancer free. I had never heard about Merkel Cancer - thanks for the education.
I am also from Arizona, born and raised in Tucson I have never lived any where else. I love it here, this cold weather is a welcome considering what is to come in the summer months.
Welcome to the skin cancer team.
Hi! My name is Louise and I live in Arizona. I am a Cancer Survivor. On Christmas Day in
2008 I noticed a big mark on my right arm. I though it was a spider bite or some kind of bite.
I went to my Naturopathic Doctor who told me it was not a bite and sent me to another doctor. The doctor said he did not think it was Cancer but did a biospy. On the day that our
President was took office, I was in the doctor's office. My husband and I were waiting to hear what the doctor had to say. He was talking about everything under the sun and finally said that he got the results back and the prognasis was not good. He said I had Merkel Cancer and he did not know anything about it but would treat it. When we left his office I looked at my husband and said I wanted to go to my Naturopathic Doctor and tell her the news. We went and told her and told her everything the other doctor had to say. She called me up at work the next day and said she had been praying for me all night and was uneasy about what the doctor said. I told her that my husband and I called the Cancer Treatment Centers Of America in Chicago and they told me that they had a new branch that opened up in December in Goodyear. They also explained to me that the doctors there knew and had treated Merkel Cancer. My Naturopathic doctor told me she had a great peace when I told her I was going there. Merkel is a very rare Cancer and is classified as a skin cancer. I felt that The LORD led me to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Goodyear, AZ. The minute I stepped into the place I had a great peace. On March 3, 2009 I was operated on and on March 6, I got the news that they had gotten all the Cancer out. I am still a patient there because once you are treated there, you are a patient for life. They want to make sure
the Cancer does not come back and if it does, they want to get it right away. Merkel Cancer
will come back within five years if it comes back. So now I will be going on my second year of being "Cancer Free". I am trying everything I can to prevent it from coming back. I am sorry this is so long but I wanted to share my story with you. The Cancer Treatment Centers
Of America treat the whole person. I feel so Blessed that The LORD led me there but I also know that Healing comes from The LORD! I am trying to get the word out about Merkel Cancer. I also belong to a Christian Cancer Support Group in Chandler, Arizona. Yes, I check to make sure I do not have any large bumps on my body.
