Now three weeks into this and I'm jumping for 3 minutes, rest one minute. Repeat 4 times. This makes me sweat!

I am working up to 10 minutes of continuous jumping.

Been practicing jumprope for several years now. But I'm quite new to the this chat group. It's been my favorite exercise since it picked up. Buddy Lee is my favorite of all time. He has done a lot to commercialize jumprope training http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoQ7yPwmK8s
. I like it for the variety of movements. It quickly wears me out because it requires fast aerobic workout. I have posted some armature recordings of myself jumping on my facebook. I learned everything so far by practicing youtube videos, Sparkpeople, and some DVD's I purchased. I'll accept friends ships from members of this group find me by using my name John S Watson and college I graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology (WIT).
I've been on sparkpeople since 2008 and mostly used it to learn and organize exercise routines. I started while attending WIT for an engineering degree. I graduated in 2011. While living in Boston I also participated in a running group and aerobice group. The informal running group that leaves out of the city sports on the east BU campus and the exercis ministry of Morning Star Baptist Church. Prior to sparkpeople I did exercise for fun but lacked in practicing organized exercise routines that progressively challenged me. You can also friend me on my sparkpeople page WATSONJ31.

I don't have a revx rope but it looks like a high quality rope. I think it's normal that the coating would come off. If you're using this speed rope, I don't think you'd be happy with the plastic beads which can take concrete/asphalt surfaces.

So last night I did 1 minutes jumping 1 minute not jumping for a total of 20 minutes. Plus or minus.....there were a couple of times that I did a quick little chore during my rest period which dragged the whole thing out a bit. It is hard not to get distracted by the family, house, dog, etc when you're standing around for a minute.

So, the good thing about doing it this way is that I jumped for a total of 10 minutes. By about round 7 I was kind of sweaty. I am jumping a lot better and missing much less. yeah This is definitely doable.

I am going to increase the one minute jumps and back down on the rest periods. Probably do the 1:1 again and then go to 1.5:0.5 early next week.

Does anyone have the revx jump rope? I'm already wearing the plastic coating off the cable jumping on my wood patio deck. seems like it should hold up better.

Good luck with the intervals, tell us how does it work with you to improve your jump rope endurance and less tripping :)

good idea on the intervals. I was kind of doing that but I think the shorter jump periods repeated more often is a good idea.

Today is my jump day off.

How about you start with intervals? For example, jump for 20s then rest 10s and repeat till you get total 5-min. Or jump 10x then rest for 5 counts and repeat till you get 100x. When you can jump with no/less tripping, you can increase the time or the jump count :D

So, my biggest issue seems to be coordination. It is not my legs or lungs which give out, it is just frustration of missing so often which brings me to a stop. And, I do get worse after a while (I guess that is endurance). Anyway, I did jump again this morning.

thanks, all

Welcome to the team, MCCRAE!
I hope to see you in the this month's challenge, you can setup your goals of total jumps count or total minutes of jumping :D
I like that idea of getting endurance and not tripping first before you get to the double-under :D You can try other jumping style, too, it's fun to mix different styles and you probably can last longer :D Try side-to-side, scissors (it's switching legs front-back like you do jump lunges), jacks (it's like jumping jack with rope), those are my favourite :D

Welcome!

This is a great group and we have monthly challenges. By far it is the most cared for group that I am a member of. It sounds like we have a couple of things in common. I also knit/crochet/weave. I'm 43 years old. Although I am unemployed at the moment, I seem to land those crazy, stressful jobs as well - management. Be careful what you ask for, I suppose. :)

Hi, I am mother of two mostly grown girls, age 48, married, work a crazy stressful job, like to garden, knit, read, run, cook, kayack, hang out with friends & family on my back patio, and to watch sunsets. I just joined a cross fit gym and while I am terrible at every single thing, I can kind of jump rope. Coach says that 10 minutes of jump rope equals 30 mins of running so I immediately bought a RevX (?) cable jump rope figuirng I can fit in a few minutes at home.

After I got up this morning I did 100 jumps (pretty good), let the chickens out, did 100 jumps in the driveway (missed a bunch), did 100 jumps on the wood front deck (started missing a lot and then really concentrated and did ok).

I would eventually like to do lots of doubleunders but I think I'm going to work on jumping without missing and building some endurance for a few weeks. I can't even believe I said that. Double unders? Really? I am up for a challenge and this seems like it will fit into my life.
