Welcome to the group, I'm so happy you found this team!

Agree with SKATER, keep your feet and knees together and jump high enough for the rope skim underneath your feet, I don't see why there's need to jump so high unless you try to do double-, triple-under. And if you're getting back to the jumping, try to not overdo, start with small number and increase bits by bits. Try to do your jumping consistently, say this week you do 6 sets of 15 spins and next week you increase to 6 sets of 20 spins or whichever suits you better.

Keep track your jumping with your team goals, that way you can see your progress and help our team to reach our goal as well. Listen more to your knees and calves (it might be frustrating when you want to do more but the body is keep saying, please please, stop! hehe) The key is get over your limit but NOT OVERDO!!! I'm sure you will do great and before you know it, you jump at big number and you get pleasant surprise on how much you lose (weight and inches).

Good luck and have fun!

Welcome to the group. I find that jumping is a lot less impact than running/jogging. Simply because you can jump with both feet at the same time. Try that with running, lol. To lessen impact, keep feet and knees together. Since you've done plenty of jump before, I don't need to tell you not to jump high. Just enough for the rope to clear. Also if you jump on hard surfaces, check out this super mat from Amazon. Read the reviews and you'll see how one guy uses it for jumping rope. Also, use the Team Goal for tracking the number of jumps if you want. Everything else on Spark goes by the minutes of exercise. But you can jump fast or slow and not keeping the right numbers. I found the team goal is the only place you can keep track of the number of jumps. It's more accurate and a great motivator. Feel free to use it if you'd like. Here is a link to Amazon for the mat:

My kids use their skipping ropes all summer and I have to count how many times the rope goes around! I'll see if I can beat them this summer and make a challenge out of it.

Swimming is amazing, we have a pool up all summer and the kids literally live in it, dusk to dawn.

03Mom from Yours to Discover, I'm great fan of Canada. Several years ago, I had a chance to spend 4 months in Beautiful British Columbia. I was doing 12-13 of cardio and yoga groupex classes a week. But that's another story. I'm excited for you guys to get into jumping. The house will rock, definitely, when all of you jump. lol. Your children will acquire a fun and useful skill that will stay with them for the rest of their lives not to mention the memories of you guys jumping together.

Fathin: I've mentioned in prior post that there are two activities that most children love to do. That is skating and jumping rope. They are fascinated by it. They will run around in a context of game playing, but not running for miles/km for the sake of achieving the number or exercise. They don't want to exercise. That's too boring. They want to have fun and play. So yes, that would be a good thing to do to get your nieces the rope and wean them off video and computer games. emoticon

P.S. Sorry, I didn't list swimming as another fun activity that children love.

That's a great idea, SKATER. Perhaps I myself will buy jumping rope for my nieces, get them active from young age instead of watching Alex and Marty over and over again (Madagascar 2). And hopefully, 03MMOMMY, dunno how will you manage to jump in secret but good luck doing that with kids around the house, hehe. Maybe once in a while, you can jump with them ;D

Skater787 - I'll get my kids ropes when it warms up a bit. I live in Ontario, Canada and its zero here. With 3 kids under 10 jumping along with me it could get crazy in the house! I have to jump in secret right now, hee, hee!

Welcome back Becky. Don't worry too much about losing weight. Just jump for fun and the jumper's high you get afterward. If you're not getting the high then that means you're not jumping enough, lol. The kids look like they are fun kids. I hope you get them the ropes too so they can jump with you.

Hi, my name is Becky and I am a 38 year old stay at home mom to 3 wonderful kids. I joined this team about 2 years ago, but due to family problems didn't have time to continue. I am back now with new determination and 30 pounds to loose. Can't wait to try my hand at jumping rope, hope I don't trip too much!!
