hey all...I'm just really getting started with the jumping rope...I seem to have periods of high activity and then periods of NO activity--i get really excited about new workouts and then really bored with them I guess...I think jumping rope is perfect for me. I'm going to try to do the 15 minute challenge everyday..it is completely do-able if I will just make myself do it :)

Hi, I'm new to the Jump Rope Challenge (well..this club) =3 as well and just wanted to say hi to everyone.
My mom wants me to jump rope to train more (competitive figure skater) but I seem to have lost my motivation to exercise so sparkpeople is helping me I think, plus I want to lose weight anyway.

I like meeting new people too and good luck to you Laura. It helps to play your favorite song and go for it, find someone to join you for motivation too maybe. =)

Bye all!

Great job, the more the merrier! Some of us jump rope on occasion. I have not done much lately because it has been irritating my back but I may join in again soon! Keep jumping because it sure is a good workout!

Hello Ladies!!
I joined this team a couple of days ago, but only got my rope out for the first time today - my goddess, that sure is harder than I remember it being when I was a kid!! lol

I hope you don't mind if I join in - this looks like fun!!!

Today I jumped (both feet) 20 and then 41 before I tangled - and its a super warm spring here in Aus, so I'll be pushing to get a bit fitter before it gets too hot!!! lol

Yeah, Beth - totally awesome! I jump with both feet and go until the rope tangles. but I will probably change it out and run down the block or up and down the drive ... depends on my energy at the time i jump. it has been raining quite a bit here, and i don't wish to get sick jumping in the cold rain, so inbetween jump roping i do jumping jacks or just side step back and forth and swing my arms from front to back. at least i am moving.

i think going in sets is a good idea too ... goes to show that everyone can do something and taylor it to fit their own needs.

Happy Jumping Friends!!!

I am not sure if I am doing this right. I counted 200 times that I landed on my left foot. I do them like I am running. Is that 200 jumps?

OK, after reading all the wonderful inspiration I have decided to get my butt in gear and do some jump rope. I bought one a coule of months ago and it still sits next to my TV waiting for me to use it.

I am going to do this and will come back here to log what I have done. This is what I need, something holding me accountable for what I do. Thanks everyone.

okay, Betsy, you got me motivated tonight. here are my numbers (of course there were some mess ups inbetween): 25, 27, 14, 13, 18, 24, 36 --- hey, those could be lotto numbers with a bonus #! ha ha. too bad I don't usually play the lotto, maybe I should!

the fun thing about tonight is that my 15 year old son came out with me and wanted to try. it was fun to exercise with him trying too.

now I have a new burst of energy and will go back to my typing ... two days of dr. B to type.

later ... :) laura

Thanks Laura! Today I jumped about 40 times and I walked for 1/2 a mile with a bit of jogging. I totally agree with you on the bra! Wow Laura I am surprised that you have time to log on at all! You are doing great for the amount of time that you have. Take care.

Okay - I am tying the string to my finger now! I have been so busy with school, work (2 full time jobs),and church that I have not picked up the jump rope as often as promised. And, I have not been on SP as much.

I also recommend wearing a good bra when jumping (for any newcomers) - I bounced right out before I knew it! If the neighbors were watching they probably had a great laugh.

Betsy - You are doing great, and I am happy to see you here too! Sometimes, I need a friend right beside me all the time. So, when I see you here and on the VS team, I feel more encouragement rising within me.

Okay, I need to get back to work for now, but I will be on the pavement tonight to see where my rope gets me this time.

emoticon emoticon emoticon
Hugs to all my SP buddies here! :) laura

Sorry I'm way overdue on the promise to check out this topic. I won't recommend jumping w/out shoes. Good shoes help with the impact when jumping and will make it easier on the knees.

I have some standard team goals running every month, you can check them out and use them to track yr jumps.

I am recovering from an injury to my finger on my right hand but I'll join u guys once its better and i
I can use my rope again. I don't jump for long, Degoddess is our queen in that department.

Good luck to us all.

That's great BKNOCK! You're not that far out of shape if you can do that.

I totally forgot about doing them today, even though my jump rope is sitting out in plain view. I'll do it tomorrow.

Okay Laura, on Saturday I bought a jump rope and on Sunday I tried to jump rope and oh man am I out of shape. It used to be so easy! But I am 47 years old! I managed to do about 15 but I could only do about 2 in a row.

Today my 8 year old niece told me that she can't do any on grass and I should do them on the hard pavement. I was trying to do it on the grass so if I fell I would not break anything! So today I did it on the pavement and oh my gosh, I was able to do 48 and about 20-25 in a row! She is one smart cookie. So tomorrow I will try again. Thanks for posting the challenge because right now I am very impressed with myself!!!

tonight I did 55 then quit because I was barefoot and doing it on a hardwood floor. I think I have the "swing" of things now. The first time I tried, I could only do 10. Then I decided to do it again without looking at my feet. It was actually easier and I got to 55.

Note to self: wear shoes next time (and a heart monitor)!

Okay, i have to say i am really out of shape, and i nearly cried this time. i just finished my jumps (if you want to call them jumps) and i am huffing and puffing. i cannot even get my feet up off the ground and i messed up on almost every jump. i think i was able to get up to four in a row at one point. i did about 30 jumps because i was determined to JUMP. anyways, i held back the tears, kept trying, and now i am pooped. I will get up in the AM, find my jump rope and try again. it will be interesting to look back in a month or two to see what progress i have made.

I just did my jumps today...actually I'm skipping rope. Anyway, this time I got up to 31. I could feel my heart starting to get up there. Next time, I might wear my heart rate monitor to see what it's doing. I didn't feel so awkward this time.

Oh, ouch! emoticon I finally did my jumps like I said I would and I made up for the previous day. Ya know, I could not get past two jumps in a row? I am not so young anymore. However, that did not stop me, in fact, I am only more determined now to challange myself to see how many jumps I can make without messing up. I will get better each passing day with practice. Thanks for being my SP JumpRope Buddy! I am going to look like this emoticon !!!

Okay,I just did 18 jumps non-stop for my first attempt. That will be my benchmark. I'll see how many I can do tomorrow non-stop. I can do it in my living room because I have a high ceiling there. I was just thinking, I believe I bought this jump rope in college which would make it around 30 years old!

No, not just yet ... maybe 5 in a week. I have to admit that I got home from work last night, had enough time (1/2 hr) to gulp dinner, check on my mother's health and then call my sister, and summon my 15 yrold home before I had to leave for school. I considered going outside to jump rope at 10 pm but was so tired, I fell asleep before I could think about it again. I will have to tie a string on my finger and see what I can manage tonight before I am off to class again - at least tonight I am home by 8 pm.

Thanks for keeping me on my toes - I can use all the help right now! :) emoticon laura

Hello! I found my way to this message board because I have decided to take my jump rope down from its hanger and start using it. My father gave it to me as a gift many years ago - it is a good sturdy natural rope-type with nonslip handles.

I am going to start with baby steps and make 15 jumps today ... not much but a start. Who is with me? I am also open to any suggestions, as I have been pretty sedentary for so long and need to motivate myself bigtime.

Happy Jumping! :) laura
