Hello,
I've gotten interested in genealogy as a young teen, when my aunt was researching my mother's side of the family. Now, as a young adult, I have taken over researching my father's side of the family. So far, I've only been able to reach my great-grandparents on my father's side. Hopefully, this team will help me find some leads.
I'm a true Heinz 57 when it comes to ethnic heritages. On my father's side, I have connections to central Italy and Krakow, Poland (and who knows what else). On my mother's side, I have Scottish, English (goes to 1600's), Welsh, Irish, German, Dutch, and Native American heritage. My family also has an extensive military history, from privates in the American Revolution, to both rebel and union soldiers in the Civil War, to both world wars (great-grandfather was a bomber pilot for the European Front in WW2), with the most recent being my cousin in Desert Storm.
My goal in this team is to help others with research in these areas (what little I can give) and learn new techniques that I can use to help me find some relatives in Italy and Poland.

Hi everyone!! I am Lisa and I stumbled across this group yesterday. I have always loved history and genealogy. I have only recently started to research my family tree. I hope to find out if any of my ancestors fought in the Civil War. I am fascinated with that time period.
I hope everyone has a blessed day.

I joined SparkPeople in January - but hadn't started any weight-loss plan. About ten days ago I started following Dr. Joey Shulman's Metabolism Boosting Diet. So far, so good.
I joined this Spark Team about ten days ago also, but had not yet introduced myself.
My name is Kim. I've been doing family research for close to 10 years now and have a fairly large family tree on ancestry. I work on my tree now and then - I'm also a knitter and I find if I'm doing genealogy I'm not knitting, and vice versa! Right now I'm focusing on my knitting - keeps my fingers away from my mouth!!!

I just stumbled onto the group today. I have been working on our families history for a few years now. My aunt tried to get me interested when I was younger but I could have cared less then. She is gone now. I wish she could have lived to see all the resources available on line now.

Hi - I just joined this group and am very excited about it. I started my family tree a few years ago and had some success, then life took over and I sorta got away from it. My 2014 goal was to pick up and try again to find ancestors.
My name is Florence - (Flo) for short. I live about 1 hour from St.Louis in a very rural area.
Right now, we are snowed in and may be for a long time the way it is coming down.
I have 3 adult children - 7 grands and 2 great grands with another on the way
I enjoy scrapbooking, card making, knitting - and genealogy (hope to get active with it again)

I may have joined this team when I was more active with spark, so picking it up again. My daughter did a genealogy project for 4H when she was in 6th grade. When I retired in 1995 I deeded to pick up where she left off and have been at it ever since. More time was spent on it at the beginning when there were so many new things to discover. Things have slowed down some now, as brick walls have been hit.

Writing character sketches as been been a goal of mine. The idea suggested by ancestry.com of 52 Ancestors. ( one a week for a year) interested me, but since I already have many sketches, I changed it to 52 questions. Each week I write a little paragraph about one of my family that I still need to find out about. Maybe someday someone will take that and be able to fill in some blanks and extend my research.

My name is Martha.

Hi, I'm Kajsa, and I have just binged on ancestry.ca for the last 11 days. I am so addicted. I am researching Sweden at the moment. I am returning to Spark and am a mature college student with a crazy schedule so I have to set aside my family research now until summer.

Hi, my name is Kathy and I've thought about joining this group for some time now. I've been with Sparkpeople for 6 years, but I haven't been very active in a while. So hopefully by summer I will have more "me time" to get back into my research and other things I enjoy doing. Btw, thanks for the Welcome Mat! emoticon

Hi I'm Elizabeth from Vermont.
I've always been interested in genealogy and shaking the nuts and ghost/skeletons from the family tree. Now that my brother is retired he been bitten by the bug and we've been working together. Next summer we want to visit illinois/wisconsin and do some cemetery hopping and local research.

Hello Everyone!

I am Lisa Wagner and I have been doing genealogy for many, many years with my first cousin, Michael. We share all our information and colaborate on the findings. Today we had a MAJOR, MAJOR brick wall breakthrough!! Which sparked me on to find this group! I had given up on genealogy for the last year or two because I have basically found all there is to find on the internet. I am at a point now that I need to go physically visit some of these places to get any farther. But a distant cousin in Scotland was able to break thru a major wall for us and it feels sooo good! The final story of my great grandmothers life would make a great twist and turn mystery movie!

I see there are alot of familiar names on this team from the quilting teams! I guess Great minds think alike! Quilting and genealogy, 2 great hobbies.

I think this will be a fun team. I already enjoyed the ghost question.

Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Hello, everyone. My name is Debbie and I live in Northern California. I am a long-time Sparkler and have been a genealogy hobbiest since the mid-80s. I have been a FH Consultant for more years than I care to admit and served as the director of our FHC for five of those years. I also love indexing and have indexed and/or arbitrated over 200,000 names.

Hi, I'm Kimberly!

I think I forgot to introduce myself when I first joined...sorry about that.

My current research is mostly focused on my maternal grandfather's side of the family. He was "adopted" and it is making the search very difficult. I keep feeling like I'm getting closer but then the clue turns up either empty or just gives me a tiny bit of new information.

The history of my maternal grandmother's family has been well researched. We can trace them back to when some of my ancestors were slaves.

On my paternal family's side, someone else has already done some research and I need to contact that person so that I don't spin wheels trying to find information that has already been documented.

For my grandfather, I have the word "adopted" in parenthesis because we don't know if he was legally adopted, if someone in the family took over his care, or if his care was assumed by a neighbor/family friend. It has been a challenging but interesting search.

Looking forward to being a part of the group.

I'm fairly new to SP and have been involved with genealogy for a few years. Through Ancestry.com I've been in contact with several distant relatives; would not have known about them if not for genealogy. Really exciting when a brick wall starts crumbling with hints from other family trees or documents.

My name is Kathi; I've been with SP for almost 4 years. I just recently was given 5 boxes of STUFF to sort through; photos and mementos from my grandparents' generation and before. It motivated me to get back into researching my family history; I have so many new clues now and have made so much progress!

I'm looking forward to being on this team! I can be a bit of a lurker (there's just not enough hours in the day!) but I do read everything that comes in and love to chime in when I have something worthwhile to add.

Hi Ive been a member of SP for a couple of years. Ive not always been active. This time Ive been a regular since Nov. 2012. Ive done genealogy research for almost 20 years. I really love it. I live in Louisiana which has kept records for many years. So I have been fortunate to find lots of information. I still have a few brick walls hoping one day to break it down.

Hello there,

I'm Susie, 52, recently empty nested wife and mom, working as an admin for an airline, and part-time college student. I've been an avid family historian for about 20 years, and 3 years ago accidently discovered I was a Mayflower descendent while researching something totally different. I love when stuff like that happens.

I've been on SP since 2011, but off and on. Right now I'm ON, and hope to stay that way.

Hi I'm also new to genealogy but not to Sparkspeople.
Started researching a little after inheriting some family papers
I'm enjoying not only finding out more about my family but also the history around the places and times they are living.
I'm trying to balance part time work with taking care of family (including my MIL) and trying to loose weight. Not always easy.

Hi to all!

I am new to the team but not SparkPeople. I just really started seriously reseraching my family a little over a week ago.

I'm not really sure why I never did the reserach before now. There were other members of the family who said they were working on things and i just depended on them to get the information. Now, I don't have the answers I want and have decided to do research for myself. I've consulted a few other family members to try get any information that has already been gathered.

I had no idea how time consuming or challenging this could be.

Looking forward to finding information and answers and information.

Wishing everyone here success in your searches and in your health journeys!

Hi everyone. I have been a Spark member since Jan. 2010 but just discovered this team through another member's page. I have been working on my family genealogy site since 2001 off and one but finally put it on Tribal Pages this year.

Hello all - my name is Barbara and I have been a Spark member since March, 2009. I am still working on losing a very stubborn 25 lbs. I'll be 70 yrs old on my birthday in November and the weight comes off very slowly.

I have been working on my family history along with my husband's since 2007. Have worked on Ancestry.com and through it have connected with two distant cousins with whom I share information. My husband and I are in the process of moving from Albuquerque, NM where we have lived for the past eight years, back to Colorado, where we lived for 25 years so it's pretty much home. It is the area where my parents, grandparents and greatgrandparents lived so I can hardly wait to get settled so I can do some real searching in various records.

I am so excited to have found this Team - am looking forward to sharing success in weight loss and ancestry!! emoticon

Hey everyone! I joined SP about a month ago so I could start doing something to avoid bariatric surgery. I've been working on my family history off and on since 1995, but everytime I seem to be making some really good progress my computers/software have started messing up and I have lost most of my work. Right now my tree has @2200 people and is posted on Ancestry. I haven't synced up with my FTM for a couple weeks so I will probably lose stuff that I've added recently because my security program decided yesterday that FTM was a harmful program and refuses to open it! It's very frustrating! Still, I really like finding out about my family history and have recommitted myself to the work recently since my dad almost died from cancer last year. My only hope is that someone in the family, perhaps my sister's kids, will appreciate the findings once i'm gone. Excited to hear about others adventures in ancestry!emoticon

Hi all! I am new to Sp-about 1 week. I was poking around and stumbled on this team. I accidently got into genealogy a number of years ago when I was trying to think of a Christmas gift for my in-laws. I decided to do a little family history project with some old pictures and interviewed all their kids and grandkids. The gift was a huge success and suddenly I was deemed the family historian. Since then I have tried to research both my husband and my lines with a goal of getting back to each line's immigrant. What I love is that even though you never 'finish the puzzle', every piece you find feels like a reward. One success was being able to prove one of my mom's lines back to James Chilton of the Mayflower. Mom and I joined the Mayflower Society in Wisconsin last year. Actually, I find every story interesting, but this is the story that got all my family interested-finally! -Carol

Hey to all you Genealogy buffs :) I'm new to Spark people, still trying to figure it out! :{
I've been researching my family since the 1980's (on and off) I mostly work on it during the winter, since I love being outside when the weather is nice. My family is all in Tennessee, since the early 1800's, before that, NC & Virginia, I don't have many lines traced to their original countries, but they seem to be from Northern Ireland, Scotland, England and Germany. Great to meet all of you!

Hi! Genealogy is one of my most favorite things to dabble in. Sometimes you find that "needle in the haystack" as well. Had one of those weeks it makes me so happy. Looking forward to making new friends here.

People ask me why I so enjoy genealogy--I tell them I love working on puzzles and reading mystery novels. Genealogy is puzzles and mysteries all wrapped up together! And you never get to the end of the book!
I'm from central NY, lived around the country and in Europe (unfortunately before my research days...) with my Air Force husband and we've settled in Columbus, OH. We're empty-nesters and grandparents. I'm a part-time private tutor and enjoy reading, crafts (stained glass, mosaics, etc), and of course genealogy.
My main surnames are: Lewis, Spencer, Carver, Winn, Webb, Pitts.

Hello Fellow Family Researchers,

I am from Nebraska but grew up in Montana where my father grew up. My mother grew up in Iowa. I am so happy to have found this forum. My uncle asked me this question, “Why do you like studying family history?” My response was, “My mind is stimulated by the new puzzle pieces fitting into place. The knowledge gained in knowing where we came from and the ideals that have been carried through from one generation to the next.” The stories…ie My g-g-grandfather coming over from Ireland and could never eat butter again because on the ship they were served spoiled butter and he was so sick throughout the journey. There is also the excitement when breaking through a wall to find an area in Europe where your ancestors live. This truly is a great hobby and I’m honored to be our families historian.

My name's Ramona and I literally just found this team! I'm the family historian. I've not worked on anything for the past year almost and I'm so far behind in catching up and doing research. I need to get my research off my son's computer (it was mine but we switched and I got the laptop) so I can get busy again. So much to do!

From Ask-Angels.com: Start with small steps and momentum will build. Celebrate moving in the direction of increased happiness now! With a plan and persistence moving towards your goals all things are possible! ♥

Sally, I've got a similar situation. My ggrandmother died when her 3 daughters were little. They were farmed out to various family members. I figured out who the great aunts went to, but have yet to figure out who raised my grandmother. One of these days...

I just stumbled upon this team a few minutes ago! I rarely get a chance to work on my family history, but I am the family historian. Three siblings survived the trip here and there is a cousin of each of those descendants working on our family tree! What a journey we have been on these past few years! The three siblings were raised by another family and it took quite a while to figure out what child belonged to what set of parents. I look forward to hearing more about what others have faced in trying to complete their family tree.

I have been doing genealogy work on my family since 1971. I documented enough to join the DAR. I was living in NE OH at that time. Then I divorced and moved to NE FL in 1991. It made it much more difficult to do research here until later in the 90's when so much info went on-line. I have been reinstated into DAR to a Wisconsin chapter that my cousin belongs to. We now have 16 lines to be eligible. The journey finding so much info has been very rewarding. I remember when I found my very first link past info I had in family Bibles. What a special moment that was!

I'm Evelyn - aka Ev or Ang. I filled in the new member ABC's if you need to know a little more.
2011, I survived breast cancer and then tonsil cancer. Then I became very ill and it took from Sept until Dec to discover what was wrong - salminela poisining that caused an infection. I am not having both PT and OT and doing much better.

I look forward to getting to know y'all much better.

Hi,
I live in Texas and am first generation American so finding some detail on my family has been difficult. But I am still working at it. We hail from England on my mother's side and from Holland and they tell me Chec on my father's. But we can't find that info. Seems there was a name change in there somewhere. So I am here to read up and see if I can find some more places to look.

We can trace DH family back past the Revolutionary War to Scotland and even some past that.

So glad I found you guys. I am just getting involved in the process again.

Hi, I'm from Cedar City, Utah. I have been interested in genealogy since I was a child. My main roots are English, Welsh, Scottish, Ilse of Mann (I believe that is called Manx), and Danish. Many of my ancestors are also from colonial America. I recently discovered hints that some of the relatives I thought were English might actually have Huguenot tries (French religious refugees). I seem to run a bit hot or cold with genealogy. I'm either really into it or letting it sit on the back burner. I really would like to get into it again.

I think its a combination - the novelty doesn't wear off and new information is released pretty much constantly these days. Since Pennsylvania recently changed their vital records laws and Virginia is currently in the process of doing so, the odds are good that we will continue to see new information!

Hello's from Florida! I've been working on my direct family (no distant cousins) genealogy for about a year now. I did have one portion of my grandmothers fathers side traced back to the 1500s, but my program corrupted and I had to delete most of my information. I'm looking forward to having people to talk with about my journey, both to the past (research) and to the future (weight-loss)!

Hello,
I'm a stay at home mom of a toddler and a preschooler. I've been using Ancestry and researching my and my husband's family tree for the last 6 years. I haven't been able to do as much since the kids were born, but I try to do as much as I can. I just started Spark people and I'm really liking it so far.

Hello, I'm new to Sparkpeople and have played with geneology on ancestry.com for several months and I am hooked now. I try to limit my time online, but it's tricky with the novelty of following family lines, especially since like so many I've started my search after almost all of my family is gone...

Anyway, hello!

I have spent many hours traveling and going through courthouse records, books, etc. All a time-consuming task.

Now we just input a name and up pops a resource and we pull off information. So much easier and less costly.

But I still enjoy that occaissional trip to a court house, or tramping through a cemetery...

I started my research on my dad's side of my family using a pretty basic family tree that a cousin had compiled and some death, birth, and marriage information she'd gotten. When I looked at those vital record copies, which she had sent for over the course of several decades, it really made me realize how hard it was to get that information. I found more information via census records, which would have been just about impossible for her to find in the 1960s and 1970s, and vital records for collateral relatives that have become public since she did her research. Amazing changes, huh?

emoticon to the team!! The internet certainly changes the way I handle genealogy researches.

And I do remember heading to the genealogy library, weekly to pour through micro-films searching for any family connections. It was a tedious task. Some of those first trips to Salt Lake City were our foundation blocks to move towards internet searching. Just makes finding records, even in Europe more accessible.

Hi All,
I've been a member of SP for a while. I lost a lot of weight, and then life got rough and way too much of the weight came back. Now I'm entering into a long period of regrouping, which includes a lot of facets of my life. I'm a historian/ architectural historian who hasn't had a job since Jan 2010. Between unemployment, some temp work, and a few other temporary and part-time jobs I've managed to keep a roof over my head and most of my bills paid. My sisters have helped with medical bills and other things, including paying for me to start seeing a therapist a few months ago. I took antidepressants for a few months, which along with the stress just accelerated the weight re-gain.

One of the GOOD things to come out of all of this is that I went from dabbling in genealogy occasionally to having time to really get involved. I volunteer with my local genealogical society and have started taking classes from the National Institute for Genealogical Studies.

Oh yeah, and I've been living in Seattle for a while, but I'm planning to move to the Washington, DC area in a few months and hiring myself out to do research, both historical and genealogical. (I have a sister not far away and several cousins who have offered a place to live temporarily while I get things together.)

I hope that we can help each other with our research and I need your support in getting my weight and my life back under control.

I have not done DNA research ~ thought it only followed the paternal side?!?! I think it gives you a broader side of where your ancestors came from, rather than pinpointing to a specific town. But I could be wrong....LOL

I did some genealogy work back when my girls were younger. Cense reports, church records, etc. My oldest girl took over when I moved to Poland and we joined GENIE.com, but I have seen mistakes in these records and no provenance. So I am looking to get back into it.
I am hoping to find folks back in the old sod, as I am on this side of the pond now.
Crawford, Bailey, Huddleston, Redford are names from my grandparents. Almost as comon as Jones. I have considered a DNA search. Has anyone done that?

Congratulations for making healthier choices AND for coming back!

I know it's not often easy to find records - especially crossing the "big pond". So, if you ever need something looked up....I'd be happy to help out!!

Hi everyone,

I've just re-joined SP after having been away for a while. Got some good routines going last time I was here, and also lost almost all the kgs I aimed for. And now I'm back - want to guess why? :) Promised myself to do it properly this time, though. :)

I've been doing family history research for about 20 years. Back then I researched my father's family (Sweden), but now the Internet has given me the possiblity to research my mother's family (Hungary and some in the US). Just found scanned pages of old books on familysearch.org and am spending every free second there. When I'm not on SP, of course. :)

Looking forward to getting to know all of you!

Hi, my name is Patty, from SW Ohio. I combine Sparks and Weight Watchers and get the best of both worlds. Glad I came across this team. I am an amateur genealogist enthusiast. My grown daughter and I refer to it as "Looking for dead people" and spend as much time as we can in cemeteries and on-line researching our families. Great fun, but sometimes frustrating, but I love the challenge.

Hi. I have been on Spark People for years, but never really used it for much. After a recent visit to the doctor, I'm hopefully finally motivated to get the weight off again. I'd much rather think about genealogy than weight loss, so I thought maybe this would be a good group to be since it combines my passion with my nemesis.

I've been working on my family history for decades when I can make time for it. I got the genealogy bug learning about my Norwegian ancestors back when I was a pre-teen. Since then I've found a few Germans, but mainly a ton of American history, with Pilgrims, Puritans, Quakers and other very early immigrants in my tree.

I've felt overweight my whole life other than a decade ago when I had a lot of success with weight watchers and lost 83 pounds. I've since gained 94 pounds back.

I want November 5, 2011 to be the last day that I'm going the wrong direction on the scale!

I started my family research while in grade-school....so I have over 40 years of experience and there are days that I seem to struggle to find the right clue.

Just recently I revisited some of the people I thought I had exhausted and came up with 2 brothers that also fought in the same war with my ancestor. Then I found records of them immigrating to the United States as well. And my family tree exploded even further....

Hello, my name is Penny and I'm looking forward to being in this group. I've been involved in family history for about 8 years. Most of my forebears are English and Scottish but there are Polish/Russian Jews in the mix (much harder to track down) and I do a lot of Australian research as my husband is Australian and I have also found, and met, some of my own family that I never knew existed. As I now live in New Zealand most of the work is done on-line, although we do cross the Tasman sometimes and I have become very familiar with Australian cemeteries!

Hi, my name is Cathy. I've been doing family research for about 15 years. I had some original notes put together by a great aunt, which have turned out to be quite accurate. My inlaws also had some notes which weren't. I love this hobby. If I can I travel to places where I can get some information, but I do most of my work on computer. My husband and I are very busy with Scottish games and have done some research in Scotland. I'm tickled to find a Spark Team with my main interest.

my name is Paula, I have been with Sparkpeople a while, and I have been doing my family tree for a couple years when I can get in the time. I was very lucky to have had 2 cousins and an Uncle that did a lot of geneology on our family back in the 70's and were able to take my mother's family back to the 1600, so now, I am working on my father's family and my daughters on her fathers side. The name changes and spellings has me hitting a wall, but I am determined and I enjoy this hobby

Hi

Am really addicted to doing the family tree!

I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints last year and, of course, we are encouraged to research our family tree.

I started in January 2011 and am now back to 1640 on most lines on my family.

It is truly addictive!

For those of you who don't know, the Mormon Church has Family History Centres that are free of charge and you don't need to be a Member of the Church to use any of them, just phone and book a slot on a computer.

From there you will get access to www.genealogist.com, www.ancestry.com, www.findmypast.co.uk, etc, etc. so is well worth the effort to visit. For myself, ancestry.co.uk (I am in the UK) has been a godsend. You can access all the census' plus public family trees. I have found 80 people on my tree in the last 3 weeks, just by using Ancestry

Hi all. I am hoping that in signing up for this team I can learn how to find information on my ancestors. I have tried several times and got nowhere. However, I have some lead on my mother's side after I found a book on a family history that turns out to be her mother's mother's family (i.e. my great grandmother). Today I talked to the author of the book and it's supplement who was my great grandmother's great niece (I think that is right -- she is the great granddaughter of my great grandmother's twin sister). She told me most of the family still lives in the same area, so I might be able to find information from back there on the other side of Mom's family. Anyway, that got me interested in trying again. I have looked at this site a couple times before and decided to try signing up to see what I can learn.

Hi I've been in the group for awhile, but not participating. Hopefully, that will change. I'm a 64 years young divorced Mom of two successful sons, two wonderful, talented grandsons, and a beautiful, equestrian riding granddaughter.

I lost my dear kitty friend, Ditto, of sixteen years this February. I now have two ornery, orange kittens ... Ollie Bollie McFollie, he's Irish and Opie, he's from Mayberry. lol They keep a smile on my face and make my days happier.

For years I have been praying for a business to work with, that is ethical, fun, profit making and I can do from home and on the computer. Heavenly Father has brought this great business to me. Thank you, Jesus. I am looking forward to a new life that this is going to help bring me.

I am from and living in Ohio. Some family names I will be doing research on are: Bliss, Asher, Forney, Lanning, Eckelberry, Bassett and Boyd.

Looking forward to making new friends and finding wonderful, departed family members.

Hi,
I am a genealogy junkie!
Lately I have been spending long hours trying to break down my two brick walls.
The first is my paternal g g g grandfather, William Jones.(why, oh why did I have to be born a Jones?)
I thought that I had him nailed down when I realised that his death certificate was in the time range that should give his place of birth before he emigrated to Australia. Not so. The person recording his details just gabe his place of birth as "Wickers"
Family stories say that he came from Buckinghamshire, and there is a town called High Wycome there, but so many William Jones's were born at the same time he will be a hard one to find.
The second puzzle is a lady of mystery, my maternal ggg grandmother. On the birth of each of her eight children, her maiden name is spelt differently.....Calbeck, Colveck, Culback etc. I have decided that this lady must have swum to Australia as she doesn't seem to have been born here, neither does any name like hers show up in the shipping records. But I know that somewhere, if I look long enough, I will find her.
If anyone has any loose ends in Australia that they would like checked out, I have the time and the resources to do it now,
Looking forward to getting to know you all,
Sharon.

Hi,
I have been a Spark member for almost 2 years now. I have reached my goal weight and am maintaining.

I started researching my ancestry in October of 2010, should have started before my parents passed away. I am having a real hard time putting the puzzle pieces together for my father's family, challenging but fun.

My mother's side of the family is a little easier. I went to a family reunion in 1994 and received a printed copy of "The Ancestors and Descendants of Johann Christian Enderle", over 140 pages typed - no computer. I have been entering the information on Ancestry.com and adding the sources.

I am going to add a link to my family tree on Ancestry if anyone would like to check it out. trees.ancestry.com/tree/20921031/family/pe

Thanks for the welcome St. Louis Woman and Kestrel Rose! I love, love, love genealogy/family history. It's a long story, but I met my father for the first time three years ago. He immigrated to the U.S. from the U.K. My motivation for meeting him was to get my family history and boy did I get it. My main source is Genes Reunited, I'm about 150 people shy of my tree having 3,000 family members in it! I can't tell you how this work has impacted my life. I've met so many amazing people. My mother's family is from Mexico, a virtual dead end. I'm really sad for how that country has gone down the tubes. More later, thanks for the welcome. P.S. I need to lose 17 lbs! AAArrrggghhh!

Hi everyone, I am not really new to the team. Just back after being off the grid for a while. Working full time has limited my ancestor hunt, but I fit it in when I can. I became interested while in High School and have been working on my (and my husbands)family tree for over 30yrs. We have 3 girls, one son in law, one granddaughter and i have 100 lbs to lose.

Hello everyone, non-participating Spark-member for several years, will attempt success once again. I've been working on our Family Tree for couple of years now. Was very busy with my husband's side for the past year and a half and have now focused on mine for the past few months. Our elders have all passed on and we were a family who never questioned or spoke about who or where our ancestors came from. I have been successful in finding my grandmothers family in England and have finally made contact with an Irish cousin. I use the Ancestry sites and find them very helpful but do wish there was more information for Irish ancestors. I just love working on the ancestry and hope that with being a member of this team, with members who share my passion of genealogy it will encourage me to be successful in my goal with Spark people as well.

Hello. I am new to this team, but not to sparking.
I recognize some of your names.

I started working on my family genealogy about 9 years ago.
Haven't done much with it until this past month. I had previously lost some of my information when we had our last computer crash. This time, I am backing it up on the internet using "My Heritage Family Tree." So far, I am only doing what I can for free.

Most of my heritage is German, with one branch that is French [although they spoke German.] One branch is very difficult because the name was Schmidt. Even checking local records, it is difficult as there seems to have been more than one man with the same name as my great-grandfather.

Hello, my name is Sheryl and I have been working at genealogy for a few years now. I had a lot of family help on my mothers side of the family, but not so much on my fathers until I ran into the family genealogist and wow what I have learned.
My mother's folks are English and Irish and my fathers are Scots and English. I have traced the ship my grandmother came to the states on and have traced my father's family back to the 1700 in NC, but not to Scotland. So fascinating!

Hi Rubytwosday,

There's no such thing a a 'casual' genealogist. You may start out that way, but it's extremely habit-forming.

Hi, I'm new to the sparkteam, but not so new to Spark. I've been researching my ancestry for about six years now, with a lot of help from an aunt on my father's side of the family and help from my Mom and a cousin on my Mom's side. The further into this thing I get the more intrigued I become. My initial interest was in my father's branch of the family - McNaughton, but as I dug deeper I started to see how things like a grandfather on the Scottish side of the family would be referred to in the French "Pappa", and unearthed the truth behind something I remembered being told as a child by my mother's father - that we had German ancestry in our past.
Hoping to make some ancestry fanatic friends.
