Hi Carol- I also started with SparkPeople for medical reasons...high cholesterol and glucose levels. I gave myself twelve months to lose 30 pounds, a realistic goal for me. Due to the healthy recipes available here, I reached my goal early and am practicing maintenance until 2013. Then I'll set a new goal of 20 pounds in the next twelve months. No hurry, no stress...what happens, happens. By the way, blood test shows normal cholesterol and glucose levels now. Good Luck trashing the oxygen machine!

Not so much of the "old"! We're the same age Welcome to a great team.
The past is our definition. We may strive, with good reason, to escape it, or to escape what is bad in it, but we will escape it only by adding something better to it.

My husband was able to return his sleep apnea mask after some weight loss and an exercise program. It's likely you will, too. Often surprisingly little weight loss has considerable health benefits. Certainly it has helped each of us dramatically. God bless your journey!

My name is Carol and I am glad to have found a team that fits my life. I am 66 and still working 40+ hours a week, so my time and energy are somewhat limited. I joined SparkPeople September 12 and have lost 7 pounds so far - unless that last pound is still hanging around to surprise my scale again. Individual pounds have been known to do that to me; they don't like being rejected. My total weight loss goal is 30 pounds. It doesn't sound like much but it is likely to take me a whole year to do it. My motivation is to be able to get rid of the oxygen machine I sleep with because of sleep apnea. My doctor assures me this will do the trick, at least for me. I'm looking forward to plodding along - and succeeding - with this team.
