I think the thing to take away here is the importance of goal setting and then working consistently toward that goal .... whether it's drinking 8 glasses of water or whatever.
I also believe that viewing each day as a "fresh start" helps to not be mean to yourself when you have an off day nutritionally or physically or both. The only danger to that is if you have too many "fresh starts" to where you're not actually making any progress at all.
By progress, I'm not necessarily referring to end results such as #s on a scale or a tape measure but rather, the process itself ~ the things you do that, when combined together over time, contribute to your success.

I don't want to rain on your fresh start parade but the 8 full glasses of water a day thing is a myth. The idea behind it was people, on average, need about that amount of liquid a day. But that's not every person and it also includes all liquids you are consuming like soup, milk, tea, juice etc.
Drinking water is great and if you're substituting water for soft drinks or juice it'll be a huge help diet wise. But don't force yourself to drink the last few glasses if you're not thirsty.
I keep a jug of water in the fridge and slice a lemon into it. Sometimes I put some frozen berries into it instead.

Thanks for your encouragement. One thing that helps me to drink water is to use a simple inexpensive water goblet. I put 1 ice cube in the goblet & then add 8 oz. of water. For me this creates a sense of elegance & I enjoy drinking the water.
