Welcome to the team!
That's gotta be the most frustrating thing about weight loss...when you do everything right for two months and THE SCALE DOESN'T BUDGE!
Conversely, you can gain two pounds just by walking past the candy shop at the mall.
NO FAIR!!
Keep up the good work!

Esther!

Hi, My name is Theresa (IstraLouise)

I joined Spark a long time ago (years ago) but didn't get serious about it until now, starting just before January. I really want to be on this team, because even though I'm dropping weight right now, with changing to tracking my calories, I feel like its deceptive and not sustainable in the long term. I want to commit myself to losing the weight whether its .4 pounds a week or not at all. I want to make healthy changes in my self and my lifestyle that are permanent and ingrained, and that is something that fast weight loss is never going to get me.

Thank you for starting the slowest loser team!
Thanks!

DASU -
I can so relate to your post.
I am learning a lot on these boards. It has not yet translated into much of a weight loss but I am hoping to become more healthy & to shed more pounds over time. What I am learning is that I have to make small changes here & there & to try to be consistent. They say that by incorporating some new lifestyle ( dietary, exercise) change on a daily basis, that it can become a habit. I used to find it impossible to keep a daily food diary. Now, with the SP nutrition Tracker, I record on a daily basis.....it is a start.
Keep posting. You can achieve your goals.

deblouky,
well you were right. I've been on spark for one week now and I lost 2 pounds. So glad. I agree that keeping track of my calories in and calories burned really has helped. Plus I joined a challenge to drink 8 glasses of water a day. That was the one piece that was lacking in my nutrition plan. I have no desire to drink anything if I'm not thirsty. I don't even think about it. Wouldn't it be great if the same thing were true about food. I could always eat something, even if I'm not hungry. Anyway, I will take the 2 pound loss no matter how I got it. Now I just need to hide the scale until next week.

You are what you repeatedly do.

Hi, my name is Dave. I am 63 and live in the South West corner of Michigan, St. Joseph.
I love the team name and its mascot. It is about how my weight loss goes. I try to follow the rules but my weight seems to be tied to the price of gas - always goiing up! lol I have tried many diets especially Weight Watchers only to gain. I believe in portion control but I guess I have not learned how to control my portions. (Also my wife is a very good cook.)
I am not into exercise except for walking. I have tried many DVD's including Wii and Coach Nichole's. They do not seem to have any impact on me.
I realize it is not the fault of the programs or the DVD's, it is my eating more than I should.
I am hoping to find the right mix of eating and exercise (or lack of) to lose weight and keep it off.
Good luck to all of you.
Dave

GWEGNER - I too am a slow loser & at times become very discouraged. Try not to go the diet pill route. Been there, done that, lost lots of weight & gained it back so fast that I can still notbelieve it. I truly believe the slow route is the path to keeping the pounds off. Stick with it, in time the weight will come off. We just have to be patient in the knowledge that we are becomming more healthy despite what the scale is telling us.

Thanks, Deblouky.
I agree that slow weight loss is better. I'm just impatient. I lost close to 30 pounds in 1 year and then I think I have only lost 5 in the last 6 months. Meanwhile, I am working out more than ever. Little frustrating, but luckily I'm now addicted to exercise. I also agree that the food tracker will help. that's one of the main reasons I joined sparkpeople. I love how it tracks calories burned too. Thanks for the pep talk!

@Zumbaobsessed....With the 1600 calories you're eating and all of that exercise, the weight will drop eventually. I think we all have our own timetable and slower is definitely better & more lasting from my experience and observations. Maybe the Spark food tracker will help you gauge what you're eating. When I started tracking my food, I found that even though I eat very healthy compared to most people, I wasn't getting the right balance of calories & I was eating way more sodium than I thought I was. Glad you're here!

Hello, I am a slow loser. and apparently, a poor sport about it. I have lost 33 pounds over the last year and a half. I watch what I eat. I pretty much stick to a 1,600 calorie diet. I have a rigorous workout regime. I was swimming 70 laps, 4 times a day. But I got sick of that and I discovered my addiction for fitness classes. I now go to Zumba 4 nights a week and Fit pump(weight lifting class) 2 night a week. So I am exercising 300 minutes a week and burning about 2,000 calories a week. But am I losing weight? No!! Of course not! I am trying to remember that this is a lifestyle change for me, not a diet. So in that regard, it's not like I can quit, because this is suppose to be a permanent change. I am toning and lost inches, but you would think the scale would have to move at some point.......right? I just joined spark two days ago. Enjoying it a lot. Maybe this will be the encouragement my SCALE needs to finally put out. I've put out all I can give. It's my damn scale's turn now. emoticon emoticon

This team is right up my alley, I am deffinetly on the slowest looser track. I have been working out and using SP for my daily calorie log for over a month now and have only lost 6 # - I started 6 weeks ago about and everyone keeps gloating (rightfully so) over how much they lsot at the begining of their weight loss journey.
How is my question! I watch what i eat and have been exercising everyother day for almost a month and a half plus I see a nutritionist. It is just not dropping off. I am about to try diet pills next but know that is not the answer!

Oh well glad to see their are others in the same boat as me wich helps a lot! Thanks for having me (sorry about the rant). lol

I'm starting again for what seems like the millionth time! I lost 45 pounds 6 years ago and have regained all of it now. I am trying not to feel discouraged but to remember that I lost the weight once and I can surely do it again. I know what to do and I know that focusing on health is better than focusing on dieting. Now if I can get my motivation in gear. Here I go!!! emoticon emoticon

Read a blog from this team yesterday and realized that I'm definitely a slow loser. I did have good success with Weight Watchers a number of years ago, then have been backsliding ever since. I'm not at my highest weight, but I haven't had any success in losing what I gained back and I really need to do it. I've developed arthritis in my right knee which has limited my walking for exercise. This is a hard knock to take. Hope to learn gain some motivation on this team. From what I've read about your members, they have been succeeding which is definitely inspiring.

This team sounded so welcoming when I read a recent blog that I thought I’d come on over. I was a hermit on SP for over 3 years before I found my voice by joining the Maintenance Team. Yes, I was already at maintenance before I spoke up.

I felt out of place because I didn’t have an amazing story. I carried an extra 25 pounds for 25 years and it took me a year to lose that. That puts me in “slowest loser” territory for sure. In addition, I never dieted in my life. Since I was active and fit, I bought into the “I’m fine” mindset, especially compared to everybody else.

However, it’s really hard to lose weight that you’ve carried that long when you’re already very active and already drinking only water. So much for the easy, “move more and give up sugary drinks” advice.

I’m staying on SP for the duration. I’ve read the stories about regaining those hard-lost pounds and I don’t want that to be me. So, hello fellow tortoises, I’m happy to join you.

The race is not always to the swift, but to those who keep on running.

Hi,

This is the second time I have tried Spark People. The first time was a couple of years ago and I just didn't stick with it. This time thought, I am going too!!

The past 5 years I have had trouble with my weight. As a young child I was overweight, (12 yrs @ 120lbs) and then from about age 13 to 27 I was fine, maybe at times too skinny. Now that I have hit my thirties, it's all been down hill. I can't keep the weight off. I really don't eat the badly, but I am not as active as I used to be. I know have a desk job, which I think has made a HUGE difference and after working for 12 hours at a desk I am really tired when I get home from lack of doing anything. Then I do not feel like exercising.

I am hoping that with this program I am able top make the changes necessary for my life NOW. Which happens to be a lot different than in the past. I need to obviously learn how to eat differently for my less active life now, and then figure out how to add some more activity back into my life.

I am looking forward to this process, no matter how long it takes. It's about getting HEALTHY again, not just losing weight.

Thanks,

Jen

Hi my name is Betty. Started SP on 12/10/12, lost 7 lbs in 2 weeks - since then I have regained and lost the same 3 pounds... oy. Like so many others have said, really happy to have found this team emoticon

I also have been on lots and lots of diets in my life, WW as a kid, the rice diet, atkins several times etc etc. This time though, I really do feel different. I have been doing Spark Coach and for the first time in my life, I'm GETTING IT emoticon about Lifestyle Change. I'm with the program LOL. Drinking water, tracking food and exercise daily, changing my mindset. And I definitely do feel different in my body, stronger, more "centered" physically, better posture.

So I really do hope I start losing weight again - in my 7th week now, and haven't actually lost any weight after Week 2. But right now, I'm ok with that. Trusting the Process.

Glad to be here - looking forward to getting to know some folks and being part of what looks like a very cool group!

Hi I have been on SP since sept of 2012. I've lost 10lbs so far. I am rather critical of myself and how much weight I have gained during my pregnancies. I am the fattest I have ever been even when 9 months pregnant and I am tired or feeling sick and tired. I have a lot of bad habits typical of being overweight, too many cookies, brownies and cupcakes, too many pizza slices, cheeseburgers, and nachos. It's time to get real with myself and make those changes and find some peace of mind. I "know" what I need to do, now I just need to do it.

I can only change what I am willing to acknowledge

I have never been able to stay on a DIET.
This past month has been a 1st!
I have never consistently WALKED and/or exercised every day.
This past month has been a 1st!
All the information and MOTIVATION I have needed has come together through Spark People. w I have needed POSITIVE reinforcers and RELIEF from those 'friendly' enemies(those who encourage us to eat or try just a little of this or that).
I needed a lot more COMPONENTS and I appreciate being able to do so much in the PRIVACY of my own HOME.
THANKS FOR THE BOOST, EVERYONE!

I CAN do THIS!

Hi everyone,

I am a new member to the Slowest Loser, and really looking forward to being part of this group. I have been on Spark people for a little over a month and am working slowly toward my weight loss goals.

I have decided that it is most important for me to fous on creating a healthy, happy life based on working toward my full potential. This includes a healthy weight, but is not primarily about weight. I want to stop holding myself back in all parts of my life! I think this team will help me focus on the full picture, including my weight.

Best,

Janet

I'm two weeks new to SP and I'm definitely going slow! I've started by making changes to the way I eat, trying to make healthy living part of my daily life as opposed to being on a diet for an extended period of time. It has been HARD! Food surrounds most social events, and it's almost never healthy food! I'm hoping to have new habits after 30 days, and then I will start to work on Phase II: exercise. I don't have a set work schedule and my days differ from day to day between 1st shift, 2nd shift, 3rd shift, double shifts, and 6 days of work a week! Along with my eating and weight goals, I have personal, relationship and financial goals, and they all want to take priority! So for now I'm crawling along at a snail's pace, but as I reach my goals, I hope to gain momentum and pick up the pace.

Hi everyone. My name is Debbie. I began losing weight about a year ago on SP and then gave up. I gained most of my weight back. Now I'm back and taking it slow and steady. My word for 2013 is Patience. This time next year I should be at goal weight!

Hi everyone! My name is Lizzie, I'm 19 years old and from Canada. I've been on this website before, and always expected fast results without any really long lasting effort. Once I started I expected to lose weight right away and always based my goals around losing at least 2 pounds a week. When that didn't happen I would give up and now here I am once again. I'm hoping that small, slow, gradual changes will get me to finally lose some weight! I don't know how much I want to lose but probably somewhere around 20-30 pounds depending on when I'm comfortable with myself. I'm not sure how long that will take me so hopefully slow and steady will actually get me there!

Hi, guess I signed up for the sparkpeople program in 2009 but never really used it, I thought I could do it by myself emoticon and did lose almost 30lbs. However it is creeping back on and I want to lose another 15-25lbs so this time around I am going to use this site to track food and fitness. I find it very hard to loss the "belly" fat, that is also what has come back back on. Any one with any ideas would be appreciated. I am 68 years young and have a heart condition that is under control, losing more weight would really be beneficial to my health.
I go to Aquafit three times a week and try and do my Leslie Sansone tapes at least twice a week so I am active. emoticon

Hello all,

I have been a Spark people member for about a year or so now but I got off track last year. I have been focused and determine to change my lifestyle since Jan of this year. I have failed in the past because I have always tried to do change too much all at once and it has backfired. This year I have decided to take a new approach. I set my goal to lose slow and it has payed off so far. I am better able to stay on track without feeling deprived which I can live with comfortably. I thought this would be a perfect group to join to motivate me to keep looking towards my long term goals no matter how long it takes me to get there!

Hi - I'm Lauren! Saw this group on the main page - checked it out and thought - what a great group! Working on getting the scale to move DOWN right now - I've got a lot to lose, but know that even small steps are steps moving in the right direction.

Hi my name is Jen.. I found this group and thought this is really me. I have taken over 18 months to lose 20 pounds. I am really fine with that. I am halfway to my goal right now. I have made major life style changes along the way. I do believe that this journey is more than the number on the scale. Looking forward to this group.

I'm not in your age group, but I worked as a school psychologist for years and that involved a lot of desk work. Having a job where there is less moving around is definitely a challenge. For me, I had to talk myself into parking further away (forced me to walk) and to take the stairs in buildings where they were available (working in 6 schools). Also tried to network with supportive staff who worked in nearby offices and, if lucky enough to get a lunch break, sought them out to chat. Spark People has been a blessing in the sense I can draw on the strength of others, get good and reliable information (research) about health and nutrition, and establish team level relationships. I deliberately choose not to join many teams and have kept my circle of friends fairly small so that I can give them time (and vice versa). On one of my teams we set a goal that covers a season; this time it relates to consecutive days logging food. Next time it might be daily reporting time spent walking. That reminds me about how extremely valuable a good pedometer is. When I report the miles or steps walked in a day I report those spent at a moderate rate of speed. My pedometer keeps track of that. For me, the motivator seems to be accountability to someone or something (like a team) else and reporting in daily. Keep working at it--and above all else--keep in touch. Regards--Cris

Hi! I'm Ashley. I'm a 22 year old professional pharmacy student. Since I've started pharmacy school I've put on about 30 pounds. I've tried multiple times to lose weight on my own and nothing has really stuck. I work a good bit during the week at a busy pharmacy, so I stand in the same place every day counting the pills and helping customers. The rest of the time I'm in class sitting or in the library studying. The girls in my class work out and go to group classes at the campus gym, but I work during the time of all of those and when the girls work out. So I'm all alone in my struggle, and it's hard. So I decided to I guess "rejoin" Sparkpeople. A few years ago I joined to track my food and exercise and get the recipes and exercises. However, then I had a buddy so I kept the "freshman fifteen" away. This time I'm going to utilize the purpose of the site and try to build a support system. Just because I don't have a workout buddy here physically, doesn't mean I can't have encouragement from someone!

I am back on track, this time around I will lose sensibly and not give up from frustration. I have my fridge stocked with salads and citrus fruits so I get my vitamins. I may not be the fastest loser out there but I plan to KEEP IT OFF!!

This time its for real.

Good morning from Biloxi, MS. I'm Renee, 63 years old/young. I've been trying to lose the same weight for over 4 years. After two years of dealing with health problems (both mine and family), I want this to be the true beginning of a lifestyle change.
