My name is Peggy & I live in Colorado & I am 65 years old. I have been losing weight very slow since I got older. I work evenings so I don't get to watch The Slowest Loser when it is on. I have been on a plateau for quite some time but I have not given up. I have tried many diets that are out there & I have tried a few diet pills. I did lose weight on all of it but gained it all back.

Hi I am Jacky and I am not new to spark. Been here since 2008 but just the past few months have been really using the site. I have lost 86 pounds up until December 31st 2012 and i did the january jump start and I pushed myself tremendously and lost another 7 pounds for the month. I really though I would have lost much more but I accept whatever my weight loss was. I am pretty sure I gained close to 2 pounds of muscle in my legs because i added extra miles to my weekly riding regime for the month. I accept I am a slow loser and refuse to fight. If I fight it I will get upset and fall off the path. My original goal was to lose a little over 150 pounds and now I am down to losing my final 52. I am taking it one day at a time and not letting anything discourage me. I am trying new recipes, new veggies, and life styles. I have gone vegan for this week because for the month of January I was strictly on fruit veggies and lean turkey and chicken ONLY. I am gonna take a week to live in the opposite side of the food chain to see the reaction from my body. Its fun for me and breaks up the monotone of eating. I bike part way back and forth to work (I put my bike on a bus bike rack) 5 days a week, and do my weekly shopping by bike as well doing 2 trips if necessary to get my weekly groceries and keep actively losing weight if I can.
I live 6 months in Florida USA and 6 Months in Morocco and when in Morocco I do everything by foot and taxi. I spend more time indoors there with my husband and we tend to go on big trips that require a whole lot of walking to out final destination and a week to recover from the experience LOL. I have a very supportive husband who is behind all i do which helps very much. I work in the health care field and I am aware of all the things that could happen to a person if they do NOT take care of themselves. I ignored my body for WAY to many years and thank GOD it has not given in to the punishment I inflicted on it. And Thats me in a nut shell.

Hi Everyone,
I just read the blog by Bruce Corwin describing this team and I understand completely what it means to be a "slow" loser. I began the quest to lose about 65lbs back in 2009! I am now about 12lbs from that goal, which means that it has taken me about four years and two different programs to achieve this weight loss. I had originally joined SP in November 2009, then dropped out till June 2012, and I've lost about 8lbs since then. I know that's pretty good for many people, but of course, I have always wanted to be one of those people that lose one or two pounds a week, so I get frustrated sometimes. Being part of this team is going to help me deal with that because it helps me so much to be able to cheer other people on for their successes, whether they are small or large. So off we go! Slowly but SURELY we are on the road to better health and weight loss!

Hi All,

My name is Daryl. I've been trying to lose weight since January 2010. I started out well going from 219 to 173 and now I'm at 194. I have lost 3 lbs since the beginning of the year and know that I need to get my weight back down. I also know that I love food and will have to do this slowly, without depriving myself as that is what I did before. I joined SP as I was told I could get the encouragement I needed to make this journey. From what I've seen and heard so far it appears I have made a good decision.

Hi there! I am so happy to find this team! I've been on Spark People for about 15 months, and started out losing almost 70 pounds in the first 9 months while actually using "slowest loser" principles--working out and eating moderately caused my body to simply dump a lot of weight that I was artificially keeping on from really overeating!

Since then, though, my weight loss has dropped to pretty much nonexistent, though my body size has continued to change as I work out. I am still about 50 pounds over where I'd ideally like to be, but I'm letting my body take the lead in this.

Too many groups here seem too focused on fast loss, and I find myself discouraged by the Jillian Michaels/Biggest Loser fandom--I find that stuff heinous and appalling. So yay for slow and steady losers!

Miss G

Hello Team,
I am Kelley, and I am a really slow loser. After a year on Weight Watchers I was down almost 6 lbs. After one night at P.F. Changs, I had gained it all back. I got discouraged, gave up, and just stopped tracking in August 2012 and have gained 12 lbs since then.
I did all the medical tests, there is no reason I shouldn't lose. Turns out that my body is as stubborn as my mind. I'm coming to terms with that. Slowly. (Ha ha, see what I did there? slowly, get it?)

So... now it is a new year and I'm full of new motivation. I'm trying again with Spark People. I'm down 1 pound since January. I'm tempted to say "only a lb" until I remind myself that a pound is 4 whole sticks of butter! I'm down 4 whole sticks of butter since January 1, 2013!!

If I have to do this slow then so be it. Slow it is. And I'm glad I found the Slowest Loser Team to take my time with!

Hi There, I am Gloria. I am one of those people who lose/gain/lose/gain. This time my goal is to LOSE, and not gain. I am not gaining, no way no how! I have always been a slow loser and I have always thought that was okay. I am not upset with the pace and in fact, one of my biggest pet peeves is hearing those who only lose two pounds in a week complain about how they are so upset because they didn't lose more. I feel like people are just too much into instant gratification and that is how we got to the size we are in the first place! But anyway, this time around, I have some special dietary issues and it happens that I am losing too fast now. And that bothers me because I want to burn fat, not muscle, nor do I want my metabolism to get messed up. I am afraid of that happening, and that is why I think a slow loss is better than a rapid one.

Hi, I'm Penelope. I have accepted that my weight loss will take years. I have also accepted that I won't ever be "skinny" and I don't think I want to be. What I do want is to be pain free, healthy, happy, go places, feel confident, wear nice clothes, and be known as a person who takes care of herself. So time means nothing to me anymore. Where am I going? As long as I'm going in the right direction, that's fine with me.

Hi, all! I am Cris, a retired school psychologist living in beautiful west Michigan. I've been a SP member for 3+ years and have successfully kept off 50+ pounds. Having said that, I need to lose that much more and here's where it gets sticky. I know what it takes to lose weight--we pretty much all do. But I do what so many have; I get confident that I don't need to log in what I eat, don't record exercise--and then what happens? Those good habits I worked so hard to achieve slowly disappear. It's a wonder I haven't packed on those 50 lbs. all over again. I have ultimately made some significant changes in lifestyle, but not enough to get out of the obese range and certainly not enough to call my weight healthy.

I'm okay with the weight coming off slowly and that's probably one of the reasons it has stayed off. Wasn't lost quickly. So..............after following blogs posted by the master loser of them all, I decided to jump aboard and embrace my turtle side. Grins!

Hello All!

My name is Cathy. I decided last year enough was enough. I guess you could call that my ahh ha moment was when I was trying to put no slip grips under my couch. I was bent over into the a ball trying to pick the couch up. Even without being heavy it would have taken my breath away. That being said it was still my moment of saying to myself I need to loose weight. I weighed 250 pounds. My highest weight I have ever been. I am down a little over 40 pounds. I have been stuck here going up and down since June between 3-5 pounds. Its driving me crazy. I thought about giving up many times. I can't seem to get past this weigh platuea.

I am a mother of four children. My daughter is 25, living at home, with her husband, her two kids (My grandchildren), Brianna is 5. Mikaela is 2, and her husband. Oh and don't forget their two dogs, Mady and Teddy!

Then there is my daughter, Samantha who is 21. She is home and in college.

Finally there are my boys 16. JT and Joey.

My husband, Al and our dog Booker all live in the house! Nine people and not enough time to do anything. I kept telling myself when My oldest moves out I would start my battle of the bulge but I decided last year. I am glad I started because I do feel better. I am out of my house for 12 1/2 hours a day. So loosing weight slowly seems to be the way I have been doing it. I watch people I know loose 3-5 pounds a week. I just don't seem to have that in me no matter what I do. I am presently the only one in my house trying to loose weight so there is always junk in the house. I have my special 100 calorie packs in my bedroom to keep me "honest" and they really help. I've decided that although I thought I'd be further along in my weight loss journey I am still loosing and that is a good thing!

Hi, I'm Becky, but most people at SP just call me Irish. I was on SP a few years ago, then left and really felt lost. I have been quietly back for a while, but have made no real progress. I decided that Feb. 1st would be the sort of being serious about reaching my goals. I want to lose 12 pounds by August 1st - that is when my Mum's family come to visit and stay a week at the beach near us. That is a tortoise's pace, especially compared to when I did WW in the past and would lose 12 pounds in a few weeks. But I want the loss to last this time, and I think this team might just be the right fit!

Hi, my name is Yvonne and I get so discouraged at the slow pace I lose and if I cheat even a little it comes on so fast. Also huge fluctuation in water gain especially if I eat out and there is a lot of hidden salt in the food wrecks havoc with my mind and body.

Today....YAY....I found all of you on the same page as me in some ways. I have been discouraged for years and recently found out from my doctor that my metabolism was so slow and my body did not need much food that I would survive well if I was trapped on an island somewhere (how discouraging is that since I don't plan to have that happen in the near future...lol) He also stated I wld probably not lose weight unless I eat only 750 calories a day. Well I tracked it and he is right since when I go over he seems to be right on the button. How sad for me, but at least I know the facts and just have to deal with it.

Hope I can adopt the mentality I need to be consistent at realizing I cannot eat like everyone else and find a happy relationship with food despite that fact.

HAve actively been a Sparker for over a year, in that time have lost 21 pounds. I know it is better than putting on 21 pounds. Doctor says lose 10 more pounds......I hover around 170, losing is just difficult. I have been on a binge this past week which never happened to me before. Didn't log in all my bingeing foods. Exercised this week on my stationary bike, could this increase my appetite ? Any and all advice will help.

Hi all. I was feeling bad that I had only lost 6 lbs since January 1st and searching for inspiration and I found this group. 6 lbs is not bad but I had set my goal to lose 2 lbs a week and that just does not happen for me no matter how well I eat or how much I exercise. I need to concentrate more on the non-scale victories I am making like being able to exercise longer, walk faster and feeling more energetic. I am really happy to have found this group to help me stay focused on my ultimate goal, which is to be healthy!

Hi! I go by 2B but my name is Jan ..........
Likewise, I read Sparks blog on this team ......... read a couple of blogs and woolah!
On Jan 1 I wrote a blog about setting those goals and taking them one week at a time ....... in the month of January. I was doing great ......... racking up lots of fitness miles and had a reasonable goal set ...............
THEN a VERY nasty bug hit last week knocking me out, and NOW just got cortisone shots in bottom of my foot ........ so Dr. ordered, "Kick back, stay off feet for a bit and use my walking boot ............... So I feel like a teeter-totter ............ when down, then sprung up ......... (so I will do some seated exercises to Coach Nicole today) ............. Looking forward to being a part of this exciting team. 2B

I just read the blog about this group and thought I would see if it was a fit for me. My name is Anne by the way...guess that should have been first! emoticon I tend to take one step forward and two back, I am hoping this time, by cutting my goals down into smaller goals I won't freak out and just stop when I have a set back, or a day of unhealthy eating.

It is nice to meet you all, look forward to seeing what this group is all about.

Hello! My name is Amy and I am a home schooling mother of 2. Trucker's wife, Photographer (I run my own business), knitter, movie enthusiast, camper, hiker, walker, talker and new Body Pump lover!
We live in Iowa and I am not new to SparkPeople, but I read the blog tonight about this group and I wanted to join to see what it's all about! I am not fast at losing the weight, so I thought this was perfect for me.
I am slowly working on losing 50lbs. I joined the local gym last month and really enjoy Body Pump and Zumba. So far I've only made it to Zumba once though, I hope to go again soon.
Well, that's about it for me. Glad to be here!

Hi guys! I'm Andrea, AKA Adarkara and I've been on my weight loss journey since October 2011. Since then I've lost just a hair over 70 lbs. I have about 35-50 more lbs to lose and I want to continue to do it slowly so I can KEEP it off. =) I'm not looking for a get thin quick scheme, but am looking to lose weight in a fashion that I can maintain for a long time.

Thanks!

Hi my name is Kathy, and I'm brand new to the team today. I've lost 77 lbs over the last 3 years, now I'm down to my last 18 (WOW!!!). I'm not looking to lose it quickly, as I know slow and steady wins the race. My life has changed drastically in the last 3 years...I changed to a 100% plant based diet, I'm going to school to be a Holistic Nutritionist and I actually enjoy working out now! Just looking for some support and some high five's every now and then! Glad to be a part of this team! Anyone else out there vegan? I'd love to chat with you about what works and doesn't work for you, and maybe swap some recipes!!

Hi Marissa! Thanks for sharing your story. You have a great attitude, and your achievements this far are phenomenal!

My name is Rachel. I am also new to the team (not new to Spark though). I've been a member of SparkPeople for years. I tend to go through cycles with Spark. Don't get me wrong, I love the site. I just will have periods of time when I'm super motivated to make a change in my life, but then I get discouraged and stop using it. Then I get sick of the rut I'm stuck in and start using the site again. I'm sure it has everything to do with not losing weight or seeing any results as quickly as I'd like to. I saw this team featured in one of the blog posts, and thought it sounded perfect for me. I am trying to think of the journey of going from fat to fit as a new way of living and not just something to attain and then throw away all the healthy habits I've developed when I get to where I want to be. I'm trying to learn to be happy with the way that I am at every step of the way rather than being unhappy until I arrive at that magical number on the scale. I am focusing on healthy habits, and I know that the more I incorporate into my life the happier I'll be and the more comfortable I'll be with myself. I do have a weight loss goal, and I have also made it a more realistic number. Originally I wanted to get down to 110 pounds, but every time I thought about it, it was so far away and so unrealistic that I would get depressed and give up. So I tried to think of a weight I remember feeling good about myself at. I looked at old pictures of myself, and when I found pictures that I could honestly say that I looked good, I knew I had found my goal - 140 pounds. If I can get below that, it's just icing on the cake :)

Hi everyone! My name is Marissa and I just recently turned 25. I have been on a journey for a long time now... I started in 2006 when I weighed myself at work when I was 18. The scale said 350 pounds and I was blown away and heart broken. I vowed then to work towards being healthier and to lose weight. I ended up losing 100 pounds but then the poor economy hit and I lost my job and had to cancel my gym membership. Now as a college student things are tough... it's hard to afford the healthy food and I still can't afford a gym membership. Being heavy and unemployed is a recipe for disaster but I am trying to keep going. I ended up regaining some of the weight I had lost so I am trying to get back to it. I have lost 4 pounds this week since being back on Sparkpeople counting my calories again. I love the outdoors and walking but currently unable to exercise because I injured my back last week and can barely do my normal every day routine of doing dishes, watering my plants, and making dinner. I'm hoping my back pain goes away so I can get back to walking everyday. It's now 2013 and I have a new goal to get down to 220 pounds instead of my previous goal weight of 160 pounds. It's my body and I've decided only I can determine what size I feel comfortable being. I am now asthma free! The only thing wrong with my health is my BMI and I am vitamin D deficient. The doctor I have is happy with my health and was surprised when he ran tests on me and everything came back normal. Anyways I'm happy to be apart of a new spark page :)

emoticon Hey Everyone! This is a goal after my own heart so I am very glad to have found it. A family member of mine and I both need to lose and I'm always on the sidelines watching his crash diets work and then he gains it all back (he is definitely a hare!). I worry about his heart with the ups and downs he goes through and I told myself that when I recommit again to losing I want to do it the healthy way so it sticks and I don't hurt myself. I've overdone exercise in the past and hurt myself and that was the end of my diet. Also, I have been the one to go hardcore on cutting calories or carbs, only to have my body rebel against me by slowing my metabolism down so that I plateau and loose my motivation. I need to put the focus on healing my body and then losing. I think of myself as a car that needs to go into the shop first before it hits the racetrack. Usually when I'd go on diets it would begin with self disgust, lol. My inner dialogue would be something like, "Stop eating and get off your butt you lazy son of a..." you get the idea. But this time I want to see myself for who I really am- a person who has been unhealthy for a very long time and needs some self compassion. If someone is sick you don't beat them with a stick to make them get better, and yet that's what I did for many years. Now I am 33 and 238 lbs with serious back problems and I am ready to try something new... something better. I am hoping (God willing) that my good example in the end, may convince my loved one- and myself that a hare really can become a turtle!

I also just found this team when it popped up on my page today. I too am a slow loser. After trying many food plans over the years I joined Weight Watcher last year with a "new" attitude. A positive attitude. I lost 40 pounds then came to a standstill for 3 months. I joined Spark People just this week. It has motivate me already to work a little harder to reach my goal. I am not interested in getting the weight off quickly I just want to get it off so I can be healthier. Right now I would just like to see the scale move in a downward direction. My attitude now is: it doesn't matter how quickly I get it off because if this is truly a "lifestyle" change then this is how I will be eating and exercising for the rest of my life. That I can live with!

I just found this team via a pop up article on my Spark page today and am so relieved to see a group like this. I have been an off and on again Spark member for a couple of years. All my life I weighed around 112-115. Then, durning my menopause years, I gained so slowly that I am now 35-40 lbs heavier and totally traumatized about that. I have tried it all, several times including Weight Watchers, slim fast, Atkins, eat for your blood type, HCG, hypnosis, Herbalife...and on and on. I came back to SparkPeople for comfort I guess. I just want to do normal things and be heathy. Last year, on HCG injections and diet, I lost 15 pounds and looked 10 years younger. I was in heaven, but still not at my ideal goal weight. My 2nd round of HCG was less successful and following that, about 6 weeks later, I got hives for months. No relation or cause was ever found. On my first few weeks back on Spark, I lost 5 lbs and was overjoyed. Now, I'm stalled. Again. But this time, my attitude is different. And, finding this group let's me know I'm not alone. Every day that I don't gain, and am healthy is a good thing. If I lose a pound, that is a bonus. I look forward to meeting you and to our mutual successes. O matter how small or how long it takes. Jackie

Good morning all! I definitely have to say I read the teams information and I'd have to say it fits me quite well! I get motivated lose a little weight and then end up in the same routines all over again. While working out I either get hurt/sick/life event happens that causes a bit of a hiccup and I have trouble regaining focus. This time around I am vowing to myself it will be different.

This year I started Nursing school and as I was sitting in orientation the head of the nursing department admitted to us that through the program so many students gain weight from stress eating and what not, so I decided when I am stressed I will take it out at the gym. If that means 5:30 in the morning I am there, it's what I have to do!

I weighed myself this morning, weighed in at 246.8, was sort of bummed, because 4/5 months back I was about 234! This July is my 30th birthday, and I want to be right around 200, so that would be a 2 pound a week weight loss goal - I can and WILL do this! However, as many of us out there, I am slow at losing the weight so hopefully this tortoise can move a little quicker this 'go around'!

I read the Blog about The Slowest Loser Team and it intrigued me because since the beginning of the year with a goal of 45 pounds to lose, I have lost "only" 3 pounds... that's less than a pound a week, but I kept telling myself at least I'm losing. This is the perfect team for me... and reading about the 67 year old who lost so much weight... I'll be 60 on the 23rd of this month and keep refusing to let myself think age is slowing me down. I will reach my goal... eventually.... .2 at a time, LOL.... hail from central Pennsylvania.

You don't have to cross the finish line first to win.

Hi My name is Amba, I am a yoyo dieter, and have never stuck with a weight loss programme for more than a few weeks.

This time however it has been a whole month and I have lost 9lbs. My only problem is when the weight loss slows I loose interest, so I am hoping by joining this group it will give me the motivation to continue even if I only loose 1lb a month.

Here is hoping for success this time

Hi I'm Heather. I joined sp 1/7/13 (my 21st wedding anniversary) I have about 130 pounds to lose. I'm a yo-yo dieter. I hope to do it "for real" this time. I'm also a vegetarian. I've been one since 1/03. I aspire to become vegan, but I have a hard time giving up dairy.
I have been losing weight slowly. ... and it's really discouraging. I want to see results!!!
I'm impatient, I know. So I hope this group will help me stick to it, keep going...
And I hope I can encourage others who need help too.

Hello. I orignally joined SP in 2011, but quickly became a dropout. I started again with the start of 2013 and have been faithful, coming to the site every day and tracking my food and exercise. I am nearly 66 yrs. old, married 43 yrs., have 3 adult children, and 5 grandkids. Losing wieght is a a struggle for me and I definitely identify with the tortoise on my ticker - so I guess this is the right team for me!

Hello All - I am still pretty new to SparkPeople (almost a month - yep, I am another one of them New Year's People, emoticon

So I just recently started watching "The Biggest Loser - My Sister has always loved the show (I am only on season 6 emoticon but I really like it so far - but man do I feel out of place looking at those guys losing weight and my numbers on the scale! So when I seen this group I thought oh my gosh! after all the searching for groups that is the home for me! emoticon

A little about me - I am 34 year old married mother of 3 who had a really rough year in 2012! After a family trauma that almost sent me over the edge I decided to rise up in 2013 and get a grip and to start that I needed to start with my health! I know it will be a slow battle (with a lot of weight to loss my goal is to just lose 50 lbs by the end of 2013 and get healthy and gain more energy!

So here I am! Turtle Power! (Sorry the kid in me always wanted to say that!!!!)
