Hello to new members of the last month or so. I've been away from home so haven't been able to Spark very much. Good luck to everyone in achieving their goals.

This isn't my first rodeo on my weight loss journey. About 10 years ago, I lost 100 lbs in about 18 months. Then 'life' happened, parents deaths, marriage, child, etc. and I gained a LOT of it back. I take solace on the fact I didn't gain it 'all' back and then some though. I also know that losing it slow and steady and making this an entire lifestyle change will help you succeed despite everything we have to deal with in life.

I am a 35 year old music teacher in Colorado. I'm excited to join SP and really excited to find this team. With all the hype around programs sold on TV that promise a body builder's body in 90 days or less, I wanted to find something more sustainable and real (for me)- something slow and steady!! There's no way I'm going to stick with any weight loss program if I don't take it easy and if it isn't fun. So here's to losing weight slowly!!

Welcome Bobbie, Let me know how prednisone works for you. I was on it for my UC and had to take large amounts decreasing each week. Not to scare you but I put on a lot of weight, got diabetes and fibromyalgia. I was so happy when I could go off of it. Being a drug sensitive person I cannot take many medications.
Like you I am a hit and miss at replies, mainly because of the pain of arthritis in my fingers plus I am borderline gout.
One thing I have learned is to go slow and easy. Seem to get better results.
Take care and good luck on your journey.

Hi my name is Kathryn I live in Ca and am in my 50's. I have been a member of Spark People for over a year and really like making new friends and giving support in our travels to get healthier. I am a Weight Watchers member and have lost over 30 pounds. I have about 30 more to go until I will be happy, my doctor is happy now. I see him every 3 months as I am a diabetic. I have been off meds. for some time now and even off blood pressure meds. I have on this journey gained weight but have turned back around and lost it when I started eating right. I have a problem with binging but have been on a streak for 8 day now and have made changes in what I eat. I have a little of my trigger foods every now and than so I don't think about them all the time.

Don't think of "losing" weight. Think of "removing" it. You "lose" something carelessly. You "remove" something diliberately, with great care, because it is no longer desirable and you wish to be free of it permanently. Choose your words with care-they affect your attitude and belief system.

Welcome, Florence!
Like you, I'd be interested to hear from someone who has had results using that product.
Hi, my name is Florence, 66 years old, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Not new to spark been a member for some time now. Have many health issues and slow losing is one of them is up and down. I have been suggested that perhaps I should do bariatric surgery, but NO because of having diabetes and sjorgrens syndrome, etc I am so scared of infections as like now I am on antibiotics for a sinus infection gone to ear and glands. Now because I need to lose weight and can't really exercise my doctor is putting me on Xenical (Canadian Name) US has another name it is advertised on TV. Think it is called Liposan??? So this is my last attempt. My question is, Is anyone else using this product that eliminates a percentage of fat from you. Have a great day.

Welcome back, Diane! Welcome to the team AND to the land of the living.!!!! What an experience! I can understand your shyness around strangers. Until I was widowed 11 years ago, I never felt the need for friends. All of a sudden I was ALONE and it's hard to find friends if you're no longer an exhuberant little kid. I keep reaching out though, and I've been rewarded. I won't say I haven't been kicked down a few times, but there is more good than bad.... Best wishes on your life adventure!

I am returning! I don't know when I last was here (over a year ago?)...but I have had a near death health issue and it has made me realize that In the next 40 or more years of my life I want to be active and healthy! Plus, I learned that I could only have today and why would I want my last day on earth to be sitting in a chair, alone? And, I admit, when I woke from my coma and realized how close I came to death, I had a fear that the pall bearers wouldn't have been able to lift my coffin and I don't want that (even though I would've been gone spiritually)...so now I am mostly healed and its time to make some changes! I am more active, eating better, enjoying life more! I am committed to doing things I am not comfortable with (like socializing with strangers) and BEING ALIVE! I am 41 years old, time to wake up and join life!

I'm a tortoise too... and happy to run (slowly) with all tortoises here! This seems a good place for me to be with others who don't let speed get in the way of progress. For a long time I have watched the scale move slowly UP... now I'm happy to watch the scale move DOWN, even if slowly! Thank you for counting me among the patient tortoises... we WILL get there, and as we move slowly, let's enjoy the scenery along the way!

Hi this team seems to describe me. At first, I lost it quickly but now I've learned my lesson. Slow is better! Just wrote a blog.
Thanks Nasfkab. I have just been thinking about this, but I am a very picky eater. It seems my protein, fat, and sometimes even carb allotment run out before my calories, I think. Have to delve into this further!

Hi, everyone! My name is Debbie. Besides being 58, I also have sleep issues, which though being managed, still I think, have something to do with my slow weight loss. I have been careful about tracking my food, staying just above the lowest end of my calorie range. I have also been faithful about tracking my cardio and strength training. I am determined to get there, but it's going to take a long time. Mao glad I ran across this group!

Hello! my name is Penny and I have been at Spark People for a little over a month but I am always on the look out for great teams that fit my goals. this one seems right up my alley. I would love to lose 50 pounds by May (considering I have 100+ to lose, that would be awesome!) but that's just not going to happen. I have tried Spark People before several years ago but didn't take advantage of the teams and honestly, didn't do my part in tracking my food or fitness and gave up when I didn't get super fast results. This time I am committed to losing all the weight no matter how long it takes. I have broken down my big weight loss into smaller goals which helps me stay motivated. I look forward to getting to know you all.

Hello! I am new to this team but not to spark people. I like the theme to this group because in my case I will indeed probably lose weight slowly. I've never been one to lose it fast, and if I do it will be the first time in my life...lol.
I just started a new workout program this morning and so far I like it! I really hope it will be a success for me and I also want to learn how to change my lifestyle so that my eating habits focus on healthier choices.

Hi guys! I joined SP in September, been active on the site since January. New to ths team. After losing 8 pounds I've sort of hit a plateau and have felt a little out of control with my eating. I know it's a long process, remaking my relationship with food, trying to fit in more activity. I am not in this for the quickie fad diet, I'm in this for the rest of my life. Been around a while, but now I am determined. I have 17 pesky pounds I want to take off for good, and especially by May 5th. I struggled last week to get everything synced up and now I have enough bells and whistles telling me to eat right, move more and drink all my water. The rest is up to me.

This looks like a good team for me. I am losing very very slowly. Have had very long plateaus, but am happy to say that the weight is not going UP during those plateaus. Am in the process right now of trying to rebuild my metabolism. (dietician says I have been eating too little for too long - NOT bragging here, had a lap band surgery, so that keeps me from eating too much) Trouble was, I was eating small amounts of the wrong foods - and not often enough, so I need to adjust my tastes to get enough protein and not so many empty carbs. Am I alone in this? i don't think so!
I hope to become a part of the team. Sounds like a really positive place. Sherry

Hello fellow team members, I am new to the team but not sparkpeople. I have been a member for quite a while sometimes really active and at other no so much like my attempts to the the pounds off or should I say get to a healthy weight which is the most important things. I have lost 130 pounds since Sept 2009 but still have a whole lot more to go. It seems difficult at times to think that I have lost over 100 pounds and not even close to my goal-- I have lost one healthy size individual but still have another one to go. I turned 50 this month which hasn't helped other than for me to realize that it is up to me to do what is required to reach my goal--- I have come way to far to turn back now but realize I need friends to go the distance. So hello new friends- let me know if I can encourage you or support you in anyway-- I personally can always use a few more friends.
