After 60, your metabolism just ups and dies for some reason so these are not new stories for me. Even with lapband surgery, I'm struggling to get past setpoints. Lately, I've read that women my age have to exercise an hour a day just to stay even, forget about losing. If I'd had an hour a day to exercise and done it, I never would have got fat in the first place.

Sometimes when I'm battling the munchies I have a "head of lettuce" agreement with myself. If, after I eat a head of lettuce, I still want something else, I can have it.

It's sort of like the 10 minute rule but with crunchy water.

Even though I am pushing 50, I have just decided that matronly is just NOT okay for me. I want (and deserve) to look and feel fit and to wear stylish clothes. Please join me in this! Take time now to write down some non-weight goals and make sure you think about them a few times every day. And, the advice you rec'd here is good - especially about the water and tracking. Water will fill you up so that you will feel like you ate too much; and tracking will clarify for you that even though you think you ate too much, it may not be outside of your calorie limit.

I AM WELL AWARE, WITH AGE COMES SLOWER METABOLISM, SO ONE MUST LEARN TO CHOSE THEIR NOURISHMENT ACCORDINGLY. THE QUICK RUSH AND QUICK LET DOWN OF SUGARY, STARCHY FOODS ARE NO LONGER BURNED EFFICIENTLY BY THE OLDER, SLOWER METABOLIC BODY. IF WE CHOSE OUR FOOD WISELY WE CAN MAKE IT WORK IN OUR FAVOR NOT AGAINST US. EVEN THE OLD SAYING, EVERYTHING IN MODERATION DOESN'T WORK VERY WELL WHEN IT COMES TO UNHEALTHY FOOD AND THE OLDER BODY NO MATTER HOW ACTIVE YOU ARE. WITH ME THE PROBLEM LIES IN BEING ABLE TO HAVE THE FORTITUDE TO LEAVE THE GOOD TASTING BAD FOOD ALONE, BECAUSE I WON'T EAT IT IN MODERATION. EVENTUALLY EVERYONE LOSES THE ABILITY TO BE ACTIVE AND MUST REGULATE THEIR WEIGHT CONTROL WITH DIET ALONE. THE SOONER ONE CAN MAKE FOOD WORK FOR THEM THE BETTER. THE EASY PART IS TO KNOW WHAT AND HOW MUCH TO EAT, THE HARD PART IS TO IMPLEMENT IT!

Not sure what you mean by "old woman" lol...I too am certainly notyoung although I like to say I am 59 years young.... emoticon
I too am struggling with the weight this time round as I have lost and put back on the same 10 k's over and over again and it is much slower this time however like me you can do it.... emoticon ....and I am not going to let my age stop me in anyway or the things that come at me along the way....
Remember like I am doing at presewnt....."Only today can be changed and have changes made in it".....and we can build on that each day to reach our goals....

Welcome! No spring chicken here! Eating breakfast is important to keep you on track all day. I agree with the comment about not too much starch in the morning, certainly not sweet ones. I do better by emphasizing protein & a little fat in the morn - keeps me satisfied longer. A piece of fruit like banana or apple & a few pecan halves does it for me, or an egg with grits. Losing is harder when you are older as I am all too aware. But it will come in time, you just have to stick with it. At least we are not continuing to gain! God Bless you, & your efforts!

Welcome! I stopped watching The Biggest Loser because I got so tired of the yelling and abuse. I don't like to hear people yelling at others in real life or on TV. I also think that loosing that much weight loss every week is not healthy or realistic.

Also, if you are super hungry by 1:00, maybe a change in your diet would help. Perhaps you could find foods that agree with you better. I think I would try something different for breakfast. If I eat too many starches, I can get cravings. But I think it is different for everyone. Just a thought.

Welcome to the team! Don't compare yourself to the Biggest Loser. They are confined on a ranch and workout 6 hours a day. In the real world it is a whole lot different and a whole lot harder.

Don't feel like your day is blown if you are tearing the kitchen apart looking for sweets. Find something that will satisfy your craving and works into your daily calorie range. Sometimes we have to tackle this one day at a time, one hour at a time or even one minute at a time. Don't forget to post for support when you need it.

I've learned to drink water all day. Flavoured water might help you. I like ice water. I also like to do needlework: knitting, quilting, cross-stitching. That keeps the hands busy and the mind occupied. I know that waiting ten minutes to see if you still want it, isn't that big of a help. But maybe drinking water to feel full and keeping hands busy and eyes off the clock might help.

ok I am struggling. I know what works and can keep going for two weeks. Then wow my life starts spinning out of control gain back what I loose then depression.
Yes biggest loosers they SEEM to loose so much each week then wow ordinary people cannot loose a pound. I am good until 1-p.m. then I am like a tornado spiining around the kitchen looking for sweets. emoticon
