Hi all! Joined this challenge because I tend to deal with stress by eating! Have to find different solutions. (Really, almost any emotion will drive me to the kitchen.) Finding myself eating way too many calories in a day. Need to learn other "distractions"

Hi! My name is Caroline. I decided to join SP as I wanted to log calories consumed and calories burned. Little did I know what great and (sometimes) likeminded people I would meet. My goal is to drop the last 20kg by 01 December 2014. I have already lost 20kg since last year September, BUT started getting really comfortable with where I was. Now it's time to finish what I started. I will need to learn how to deal with anxiety and daily stressors as it has had a direct impact on my weight. Hope to hear from you all soon. ;)

Hello everyone! Four years ago, I started with SP and lost 100+ lbs. Then I returned to work & started choosing career over everything else. I let go of one healthy habit at a time over the course of 2 years. Today, I'm on stress-leave from my job & 60 lbs heavier. I've come to understand that if I want a healthy lifestyle, I have to learn how to go of my type A personality traits - or at least redirect them in healthier ways.

Hi everyone!
New to SparkPeople, found this team and was like oh yeah! That's the team for me! I have to admit that I have become somewhat of an expert at turning mole hills into mountains for several years now! I stress over every little thing, far more than it needs to be stressed over. It's kinda funny though that I can watch someone else in a situation that has no bearing on me and see when they are getting overly worked up. I guess it's always easiest to see the faults in others when they are also faults in ourselves.

Anywho, I am 26, a stay-at-home-mom to an extremely energetic four and a half year old boy and currently 26 weeks pregnant with baby #2! Life is busy and stressful on a normal day!

I am really looking forward to meeting my fellow teammates and getting my stress under control!

I guess I already introduced myself on the "check-in" thread. I've been here full-time since last August. I was here 3 years ago and dropped out but did maintain the weight I'd lost, but a nurse practitioner set me straight last Summer, and I came back. I knew I couldn't go on even the way I was then. I've accomplished some major goals, but had a recent setback. I blogged about it tonight, so please feel free to read that. I also posted about it on another thread here on this team.

Hello everyone!
I'm Kristen, 26, a stay-at-home-mom with a very energetic four and a half year old little man, and expecting another baby this fall.
Stress has been quite an issue in my life for a while. I get stressed very easily the moment something starts looking like it might go wrong in my day to day life! I am an expert in making mountains out of mole hills!
I need to get a better handle on my stress and start relaxing more. I can usually look at stressful situations and see a more logical way to handle them, but yet I struggle with actually taking the more logical route.
I am happy to be here and look forward to meeting my fellow team mates and learning new methods of dealing with stress.

Hello all my name is Heather. I joined this team because that is one problem I have is stress. I just let it build up and I don't really know how to deal with it very well. I am a caregiver to my mother who lives with me. She has cirrhosis and has to go to the hospital weekly. I also have a almost 7 year old son who is autistic. My husband is a truck driver so he is not home very much and it just leaves me to deal with everything and it can get pretty stressful.

emoticon Hi Team! My name is Jackie and I found this team at 3:30 a.m. one morning while unable to sleep. I felt I had been sent a gift! Couldn't believe I earned points just for watching a fun, stress-busting video, but felt so much better after visiting and using some of the tools available. I care for my husband who has CHF (congestive heart failure). Anyone who is a caregiver knows it can be extremely challenging, not only because of the life changes forced upon you, but the changes in your partner as they progress in their disease process (excessive negativity and crabbiness being two effects!). So, I'm happy to have found this team to offset my stress, and to help anyone else in any way I can :-)

Hi! My name is Amanda. I am 32 and moved to China just last summer for my job as a teacher. Since arriving here, I have been a lot less stressed. My new job, though very, VERY busy is much less stressful, simply because I am doing only one job, not four different jobs in the same amount of time. whew! Still though, I have valleys and peaks in stress levels. There is always so much to do and I am trying to work on lessening them. I KNOW a big part of this is the business getting in the way of making it to the gym, which I absolutely hate! I love exercise and working out and in my non-motherhood days had hours to spend at the gym at my leisure. I was very fit and very happy with very little stress. Sadly, as life got busy, my leisure (my gym time) has fallen by the wayside. I really want it back! The trouble is how to find the time! Any pointers you have are appreciated!!! Thanks!

My name is Pam and am in my mid 50s. At a time in life when I thought life was finally smoothing out I got hit with new responsibilities. My mom (78) had a stroke last November and after rehab came to live with us as she cannot live on her own. She needs a lot of care and "encouragement" to help herself. We also cannot leave her alone in the house. On top of that, the oldest child came back home to live. Now my house is crowded and I feel trapped. Thus, BOY DO I NEED THIS GROUP.

Hi All, I'm an eight month member of Spark People. I've struggled with my weight my whole life and have decided that I will finally conquer this battle. I am a binge eater and when my stress levels are high I BINGE! In the last few years the stressors have been high. Lost my first husband very suddenly 6 1/2 years ago. I spiraled into a true depression. At first I couldn't eat and then I couldn't stop eating and over 4 years I gained about 75 pounds. I remarried 2 1/2 years ago and began the struggle to get back to me. I have lost most of the weight but am trying for the last 10-15 pounds. A year ago my step son 48 years old moved in with us. It is indeed a challenge as he has mental health issues and I was told it was happening, not consulted. I love my husband but this has brought new meaning to the word stress!

Life is a journey and we succeed when we reach out and help one another along the way.

Hi, my name is Gloria. I think that EVERYONE has some stress, though it might be different kinds of stress. And everyone handles it differently. Some of the stress that I have comes from work, from a longish commute, from crazy and chaos at home....a lot of different things. Hi! My name is Lori and I've lost 7.2 (every ounce counts) emoticon lbs. since joining Spark People. I love it! As soon as I saw the stress busting challenge, I said to myself..."sign me up!" My job of 13+ years is extremely stressful! I tend to be a "people pleaser" which is another difficulty I need to work on. I would love to leave the job at the job rather than bring it home (mentally) with me. I lose sleep and even dream about the job! I feel like I don't even rest well at night. Something has to give! I'm Caitlyn, and I have 12 pounds to lose. I already do yoga, steam in the steam room, journal, work in an Anxiety and Worry workbook, and meditate. I stress out a lot about practicing for my job as a professional dueling piano player, though. I hope to manage my stress better by the end of this challenge, because I feel as if I'm already trying so hard to manage it! Maybe I just need more support.

Hi, I'm Pam. I have been under some kind of chronic stress for so long, I have come to view it as "normal" but when I really began to wonder if I was both acknowledging and therefore handling the existing (and long standing stress) in my life is when I actually rejoined SP and subscribed to Spark Coach. Today's coaching message was diet saboteurs and I realized that I am my own worst enemy. It was then that I faced the fact that I am finding making these changes in both my dieting and physical activity very stressful. I wonder if anyone else has ever saw it in that light before. Probably because I have "used" food to buffer me in the other life's stresses and now that I am attempting to remove that, I am seeing the impact of the other ones.

For those of you with caregiving stresses, I have been there. emoticon It is not easy. My thoughts and prayers with you. For those of you who have difficulty sleeping, "hello"--me too! I also did the Sleep Challenge here last summer and it is really good. I do sleep for 7-8 hours. I just sleep lightly and I awaken frequently but it is progress.

Hi,

My name is Callie and I have 55 lbs to lose. I am off to a great start with SP.

I am currently doing three official SP challenges.

SP Official Healthy Cooking Challenge (in week THREE), SP Official 'Eat Up, Slim Down' Challenge (in week THREE), SP
Official Stress Busting Challenge (in week ONE), and SP Official Better Sleep Challenge (in week ONE)

Here are the changes I have made so far:
1. Planning meals now
2. Drinking 2.2 L of H2O per day
3. Keeping fruit in bowls throughout my house
Lastly, Tracking my food calories with (wow....lots of work there, but gotta do it!) week one of SP Official 'Eat Up, Slim Down' Challenge
4. Working out every day;-) AND sharing on SP about it;-)

I think the sleep and stress challenges go together. I am doing the slim down and healthy cooking challenges together and I love it!

I am returning to Spark People after a couple of years away. I have had multiple health problems and several surgeries. I pray that I am on the road to recovery now, and I really need to lose this weight to help. I am trying to cut back on the number of meds I take, so I quit taking my "happy pills" after consulting my doctor. People have told me they see the change. I plan on conquering the stress without the pill, with God's help. Looking forward to the challenge.

Yesterday, I was cleaning up after the Mad Hatter Tea Party on Saturday. We had used the most beautiful antique cups saucers and plates. Washing them, wrapping them back in paper gave me the opportunity to really look at them, the detail in the painting on the cups and saucers was so delightful. By the time I had finished I was calmer than I have been in ages.

Hi. I am Cookie. I am in a stressful time right now. MIL died in December. My Mom had a sister and a daughter die on the same day 3 weeks ago, and a nephew very close to death right now. She is trying to deal, but had sudden loss of vision in one eye 2 1/2 weeks ago, and now feels the vision in the other eye is affected also.

My very best friend (for 60 years) has pancreatic and liver cancer and the prognosis is not at all encouraging. I describe the family deaths as how they relate to Mom, because I wonder if the loss of vision can be related to the shock of losing both on the same day. But, of course I lost an aunt, (expected) a sister (sudden) and soon, my cousin, also from pancreatic cancer. All of these things are out of my control. My eating issues should be in my control, but I just can't seem to get a handle on them right now. I know me gaining weight will not change any of the above, and I know I need to be at my best to help Mom, who is 93. But, evidently I know that intellectually, not emotionally. So far, a CT scan has said there is no brain tumor, nor stroke. Today we will get a carotid Doppler sonogram to check for blockage. The vision issue was sudden onset, so I am unclear as to what else they can check for.

Hi! I'm Jacque, and I'm really looking forward to this challenge. I've got so much going on right now, and stress levels are through the roof.
I'm married, and have a wonderful son who's a year old. I love yoga, reading, crocheting, biking, among other things. Life doesn't look to be "normalizing" any time soon,s o I'm going to work with what I've got. After all, this is a LIFE, not a short term bandaid. :)

Hello everyone,

I am Sheryl from the east coast of Florida, I am 66 years old and recently retired. My work for the past 20 + years was highly stressful. Coupled with that I was caregiver for My great Aunt and my Mom until their deaths, some of this time was overlapping. My body continues to run on high speed. I need to learn to slow down and do for me first.

Hi, I'm Jane & I'm 70.. Lots of stress at the moment - I had TKRs on both knees last year and was just starting to get around when DH fell & fractured his ankle. So much to do that he can't help with now including driving which I haven't done since he retired. It took 3 weeks for his skin to recover enough from the fracture blisters for the surgeon to operate and now the incisions are being slow to heal so I worry. I've always been a worrywart, imagining the worst possible outcomes in most situations.

I've been a Spark member for 3 years now and have almost reached my goal only to get hit by emotional eating and gain some of it back. I'm still down about 25#s but need to lose a bit more.

Hi, I'm Mauri! My stress level has increased in the last few months and need to learn some new tools and be reminded of the tools already in my toolbox to manage and reduce stress.

I work for a breast cancer foundation on their Hope Bus, which is an RV that is on the road from April through November. The schedule is insane and I worked a 7 day week as of yesterday. I have today off & am looking toward another 6 day work week coming up. Some of those days were 12 to 14 hours long. Added to that the number of stories we hear, since stepping into it is like being in someone's home that people want to share their fears, tears, hopes & joy. The atmosphere turns on a dime - one woman came on to celebrate her last chemo treatment so we all danced like crazy...and the next was a woman told she was terminal.

Also, after 30 years in my apartment, my landlord & his wife died within 6 months of each other & the sons are selling the house. I need to find a new home...and my goal is to find a 3 room apartment - meaning I am paring down from 8 rooms to 3. YIKES!

Thus, I am here to get those tools!

Hi,
I'm not sure where to start. But I am glad that I found this challenge. I am going through the most stressful period in my life that I can recall. I started the challenge and did my first journal entry and listed about 16 things that I worry about and frequently get migraine headaches from. I have ended a 17 year marriage, enduring domestic violence, and feel worthless still. I know I can do this challenge, yet am afraid to take action. That doesn't make sense, but that's what I feel.
I am so encouraged by the people who have posted and know that already just by joining SparkPeople I have improved my health...even just a little at this point.

Good Afternoon all. My name is Cryssy and I am joining due to the abundent stress i face daily in, taking care of my disabled husband, father in law with alzhimers, and a terminal brain blockage. I also make sure that my mother in law get enough rest because she is the only one that works out of the home. I do all the scheduling of appointments and the grocery shopping. I never take time for me, and ontop of it all I am dealing with my own health issues. My family live 45 minutes from me and i see them atleast once a week, but its not like i ever really get to spend any time with them. I am looking forward to learning how to destress and start enjoying daily life again.

Hello fellow Stress Busting SparkFriends! My name is Becky. Like all of you I am ready to eliminate some of this stress from my life! I am trying to learn to embrace all aspects of life and stop dwelling on that which I cannot control, stop blaming myself (or others) for what happens, and just enjoy the journey. I am finally coming to realize that my joy comes from doing what I can to help others be happy and THAT is what makes ME happy. And daily stresses is what life is about I guess. How we react to it can make all the difference. Take a deep breath, say a prayer, and move forward. A huge smile despite our trials can make it much easier most of the time!

Hi! I'm Steph and I have been a Sparkperson for a couple years now. I am a Weight Watcher as well and will start my 3rd year in May. I have done really well up until about 6-7 months ago. I hover at the 80 lbs loss mark. I still have 50-60 to go but have found myself "stuck". Recently I have realized much of my difficulty is coming from stress. I had problems with it in the past but thought I had it managed. Mostly it comes from other people. I reminded myself I was not responsible for the actions of others and it wasn't my fault if they were unhappy with things in their own lives.
In the last few months, however, I have found that one of my co-workers is creating a growing anxiety for me. She is condescending, rude, pushy and has a superiority complex. She treats people like they are dumb and only she knows how to do anything. Don't get me wrong. She, outside the job, is a funny, bright person. It's on the job where things go wrong. Over the last 6 months I have been put in a position to work with her more and more. The more time we spend together the worse it gets until I have reached the point where the sight of her creates a ball of tension in my middle.
I have taken steps to have these things dealt with at work but the physical issues are all on me. I found this group at the right time.

Hi. Like the rest of the world, I am living in a complete state of stress and it keeps getting worse all the time. I am a CNA by profession which can be rewarding at times however I work for an ineffective manager who feels we don't do enough and therefore piles more tasks on us. I then come home to a messy house and more chores. My boyfriend tries to help but he is starting his own business so I don't get much support. I hope by meeting this challenge I can learn to handle my stress differently because as we all know it just won't go away.

Hi my name is Brenda. I just joined the challenge. I am a natural worrier. I am always worried about my family, bills, etc. you know the normal stuff. My job is stressful and on the weekends I volunteer where my boys play airsoft. That is stressful due to the fact that I am the main one that takes the money, fixes the rentals, does the food, and if anyone gets hurt I am the one that they come to. I just need to learn how to relieve some of the stress that I have.

Hello. My name is Stephanie. The type of work that I do is stressful. I am not one of those lucky individuals who can go to work and get away with taking it easy. I find my job very stressful (hours, the environment, the expectations) and have been looking for over 7 months now for something more sustainable, even if it requires less pay. My health and happiness, as well as that of my family, is worth the pay cut. I have been working here for just over a year. I have lost close to 20 pounds since working, but sadly it is not due to healthy habits. The type of work I do does not allow me to have healthy habits, at least, I haven't figured out how to manage that yet. I know the easiest way to get back on the road to recovery and less stress involves getting myself out of this toxic environment, but with the financial responsibilities I have and the way the job market is, I'm stuck this way until I find another job. Until then, I am trying everything I can to reduce and better manage the amount of stress I have in my life. If there's someone in a similar boat as myself, I would love to hear from you!

Hello, I'm Sharon and I've just joined the challenge. I thought I was one of those people who thrived on stress, and that it made me more productive and efficient. However, I've recently begun having panic attacks, and my doctor has put me on anti-anxiety medication. I'd really just like to get back to feeling normal again, and I'm hoping that by learning how to handle stress better, I can do that.

Hi I'm Liz :) I'm joining this challenge because I am a stressed out person. I worry about pretty much everything, my parents, my job status (i'm unemployed at the moment), my wedding (which isn't until next year), my cat's health, my fiance's health, my health, and yea...it's out of hand. I meditate before bed so that I can get to sleep at night, but usually I end up lying in bed thinking of things that I could be doing, should have done, etc. I took up Tai chi which I love because it slows me down, is a great workout, and helps me relax but when it's over I find myself tensing up again and my mind racing with new worries. Hopefully this challenge will help me relax and learn how to better manage my stress :)
