Hi, I'm Pam. I have been under some kind of chronic stress for so long, I have come to view it as "normal" but when I really began to wonder if I was both acknowledging and therefore handling the existing (and long standing stress) in my life is when I actually rejoined SP and subscribed to Spark Coach. Today's coaching message was diet saboteurs and I realized that I am my own worst enemy. It was then that I faced the fact that I am finding making these changes in both my dieting and physical activity very stressful. I wonder if anyone else has ever saw it in that light before. Probably because I have "used" food to buffer me in the other life's stresses and now that I am attempting to remove that, I am seeing the impact of the other ones.
For those of you with caregiving stresses, I have been there. It is not easy. My thoughts and prayers with you. For those of you who have difficulty sleeping, "hello"--me too! I also did the Sleep Challenge here last summer and it is really good. I do sleep for 7-8 hours. I just sleep lightly and I awaken frequently but it is progress.
Take care all, Pam

My name is Callie and I have 55 lbs to lose. I am off to a great start with SP.
I am currently doing three official SP challenges.
SP Official Healthy Cooking Challenge (in week THREE), SP Official 'Eat Up, Slim Down' Challenge (in week THREE), SP Official Stress Busting Challenge (in week ONE), and SP Official Better Sleep Challenge (in week ONE)
Here are the changes I have made so far: 1. Planning meals now 2. Drinking 2.2 L of H2O per day 3. Keeping fruit in bowls throughout my house Lastly, Tracking my food calories with (wow....lots of work there, but gotta do it!) week one of SP Official 'Eat Up, Slim Down' Challenge 4. Working out every day;-) AND sharing on SP about it;-)
I think the sleep and stress challenges go together. I am doing the slim down and healthy cooking challenges together and I love it!

I am returning to Spark People after a couple of years away. I have had multiple health problems and several surgeries. I pray that I am on the road to recovery now, and I really need to lose this weight to help. I am trying to cut back on the number of meds I take, so I quit taking my "happy pills" after consulting my doctor. People have told me they see the change. I plan on conquering the stress without the pill, with God's help. Looking forward to the challenge.

Hi team! I'm Carolyn. I tried the Stress Busting team (Challenge) once before. I could not settle down . I tried to meditate and would lapse into do a To-Do-List, or worry about not doing things precisely. This time I'm just going to go through he challenge and see what happens.

Yesterday, I was cleaning up after the Mad Hatter Tea Party on Saturday. We had used the most beautiful antique cups saucers and plates. Washing them, wrapping them back in paper gave me the opportunity to really look at them, the detail in the painting on the cups and saucers was so delightful. By the time I had finished I was calmer than I have been in ages.

Hi. I am Cookie. I am in a stressful time right now. MIL died in December. My Mom had a sister and a daughter die on the same day 3 weeks ago, and a nephew very close to death right now. She is trying to deal, but had sudden loss of vision in one eye 2 1/2 weeks ago, and now feels the vision in the other eye is affected also.
My very best friend (for 60 years) has pancreatic and liver cancer and the prognosis is not at all encouraging. I describe the family deaths as how they relate to Mom, because I wonder if the loss of vision can be related to the shock of losing both on the same day. But, of course I lost an aunt, (expected) a sister (sudden) and soon, my cousin, also from pancreatic cancer. All of these things are out of my control. My eating issues should be in my control, but I just can't seem to get a handle on them right now. I know me gaining weight will not change any of the above, and I know I need to be at my best to help Mom, who is 93. But, evidently I know that intellectually, not emotionally. So far, a CT scan has said there is no brain tumor, nor stroke. Today we will get a carotid Doppler sonogram to check for blockage. The vision issue was sudden onset, so I am unclear as to what else they can check for.
If this was your last day, how would you spend it?

I am Sheryl from the east coast of Florida, I am 66 years old and recently retired. My work for the past 20 + years was highly stressful. Coupled with that I was caregiver for My great Aunt and my Mom until their deaths, some of this time was overlapping. My body continues to run on high speed. I need to learn to slow down and do for me first.

Hi, I'm Jane & I'm 70.. Lots of stress at the moment - I had TKRs on both knees last year and was just starting to get around when DH fell & fractured his ankle. So much to do that he can't help with now including driving which I haven't done since he retired. It took 3 weeks for his skin to recover enough from the fracture blisters for the surgeon to operate and now the incisions are being slow to heal so I worry. I've always been a worrywart, imagining the worst possible outcomes in most situations.
I've been a Spark member for 3 years now and have almost reached my goal only to get hit by emotional eating and gain some of it back. I'm still down about 25#s but need to lose a bit more.

Hi, I'm Mauri! My stress level has increased in the last few months and need to learn some new tools and be reminded of the tools already in my toolbox to manage and reduce stress.
I work for a breast cancer foundation on their Hope Bus, which is an RV that is on the road from April through November. The schedule is insane and I worked a 7 day week as of yesterday. I have today off & am looking toward another 6 day work week coming up. Some of those days were 12 to 14 hours long. Added to that the number of stories we hear, since stepping into it is like being in someone's home that people want to share their fears, tears, hopes & joy. The atmosphere turns on a dime - one woman came on to celebrate her last chemo treatment so we all danced like crazy...and the next was a woman told she was terminal.
Also, after 30 years in my apartment, my landlord & his wife died within 6 months of each other & the sons are selling the house. I need to find a new home...and my goal is to find a 3 room apartment - meaning I am paring down from 8 rooms to 3. YIKES!
Thus, I am here to get those tools!

Hi, I'm not sure where to start. But I am glad that I found this challenge. I am going through the most stressful period in my life that I can recall. I started the challenge and did my first journal entry and listed about 16 things that I worry about and frequently get migraine headaches from. I have ended a 17 year marriage, enduring domestic violence, and feel worthless still. I know I can do this challenge, yet am afraid to take action. That doesn't make sense, but that's what I feel. I am so encouraged by the people who have posted and know that already just by joining SparkPeople I have improved my health...even just a little at this point. Thanks to you all! Ruth

Hi, my name is Diana. I joined this group because it is a positive approach to reduce stress. We all have stress in life and there is no escaping it. How we chose to handle our stress is what is important. I am excited about joining a group of people looking for a healthy way to take care of themselves while handling life's opportunities to grow (stress).

Good Afternoon all. My name is Cryssy and I am joining due to the abundent stress i face daily in, taking care of my disabled husband, father in law with alzhimers, and a terminal brain blockage. I also make sure that my mother in law get enough rest because she is the only one that works out of the home. I do all the scheduling of appointments and the grocery shopping. I never take time for me, and ontop of it all I am dealing with my own health issues. My family live 45 minutes from me and i see them atleast once a week, but its not like i ever really get to spend any time with them. I am looking forward to learning how to destress and start enjoying daily life again.

Hello fellow Stress Busting SparkFriends! My name is Becky. Like all of you I am ready to eliminate some of this stress from my life! I am trying to learn to embrace all aspects of life and stop dwelling on that which I cannot control, stop blaming myself (or others) for what happens, and just enjoy the journey. I am finally coming to realize that my joy comes from doing what I can to help others be happy and THAT is what makes ME happy. And daily stresses is what life is about I guess. How we react to it can make all the difference. Take a deep breath, say a prayer, and move forward. A huge smile despite our trials can make it much easier most of the time!

Hi! I'm Steph and I have been a Sparkperson for a couple years now. I am a Weight Watcher as well and will start my 3rd year in May. I have done really well up until about 6-7 months ago. I hover at the 80 lbs loss mark. I still have 50-60 to go but have found myself "stuck". Recently I have realized much of my difficulty is coming from stress. I had problems with it in the past but thought I had it managed. Mostly it comes from other people. I reminded myself I was not responsible for the actions of others and it wasn't my fault if they were unhappy with things in their own lives. In the last few months, however, I have found that one of my co-workers is creating a growing anxiety for me. She is condescending, rude, pushy and has a superiority complex. She treats people like they are dumb and only she knows how to do anything. Don't get me wrong. She, outside the job, is a funny, bright person. It's on the job where things go wrong. Over the last 6 months I have been put in a position to work with her more and more. The more time we spend together the worse it gets until I have reached the point where the sight of her creates a ball of tension in my middle. I have taken steps to have these things dealt with at work but the physical issues are all on me. I found this group at the right time.

Hi. Like the rest of the world, I am living in a complete state of stress and it keeps getting worse all the time. I am a CNA by profession which can be rewarding at times however I work for an ineffective manager who feels we don't do enough and therefore piles more tasks on us. I then come home to a messy house and more chores. My boyfriend tries to help but he is starting his own business so I don't get much support. I hope by meeting this challenge I can learn to handle my stress differently because as we all know it just won't go away.

Hi my name is Brenda. I just joined the challenge. I am a natural worrier. I am always worried about my family, bills, etc. you know the normal stuff. My job is stressful and on the weekends I volunteer where my boys play airsoft. That is stressful due to the fact that I am the main one that takes the money, fixes the rentals, does the food, and if anyone gets hurt I am the one that they come to. I just need to learn how to relieve some of the stress that I have.

Hello. My name is Stephanie. The type of work that I do is stressful. I am not one of those lucky individuals who can go to work and get away with taking it easy. I find my job very stressful (hours, the environment, the expectations) and have been looking for over 7 months now for something more sustainable, even if it requires less pay. My health and happiness, as well as that of my family, is worth the pay cut. I have been working here for just over a year. I have lost close to 20 pounds since working, but sadly it is not due to healthy habits. The type of work I do does not allow me to have healthy habits, at least, I haven't figured out how to manage that yet. I know the easiest way to get back on the road to recovery and less stress involves getting myself out of this toxic environment, but with the financial responsibilities I have and the way the job market is, I'm stuck this way until I find another job. Until then, I am trying everything I can to reduce and better manage the amount of stress I have in my life. If there's someone in a similar boat as myself, I would love to hear from you!

Hello, I'm Sharon and I've just joined the challenge. I thought I was one of those people who thrived on stress, and that it made me more productive and efficient. However, I've recently begun having panic attacks, and my doctor has put me on anti-anxiety medication. I'd really just like to get back to feeling normal again, and I'm hoping that by learning how to handle stress better, I can do that. Good luck to everyone on the challenge!

Hi I'm Liz :) I'm joining this challenge because I am a stressed out person. I worry about pretty much everything, my parents, my job status (i'm unemployed at the moment), my wedding (which isn't until next year), my cat's health, my fiance's health, my health, and yea...it's out of hand. I meditate before bed so that I can get to sleep at night, but usually I end up lying in bed thinking of things that I could be doing, should have done, etc. I took up Tai chi which I love because it slows me down, is a great workout, and helps me relax but when it's over I find myself tensing up again and my mind racing with new worries. Hopefully this challenge will help me relax and learn how to better manage my stress :)

Hi, my name is Ron from Halifax NS. I am living in a world of chronic stress and trying to cope with it best I can and learn to not sweat the small stuff. I have taken relaxation and stress management training but these offer some temporary relief. As someone who has had a heart attack at 45 it is as necessary to control as diet and fitness. Stress is my biggest challenge as it is the one that is affected most by the actions of others. Majority of my stressors occur at the workplace.

Hi, I'm Tina, I joined the challenge as a Ty A, overdo-er , emotional eater. I began my weight loss at 535 pounds June 1, 2010, and lost 140 pounds on my own and with Jenny Craig. I found SP on October, 2013 reading an article in a doctor's office. I have lost another 43 pounds on SP and I am Pleased with my progress, and have moved from a wheel chair for 3 years, to a walker and now a cane. I am excited to walk. I have about 105 pounds to a first goal, of 250, and will reassess myself at that point. If I get down 288, I think I will go for a 300 total loss as my ultimate goal. I work out daily, new in my life. I now have started with a personal trainer. Much of my stress is self induced. I worry too much about things outside of my control. I love the SP nutrition, fitness, motivation, spiritual emphasis, and friendships. Looking forward to this team challenge.

Hi. I am definitely a "type A" personality. I took the stress quiz and I have a number of areas where I need to improve. I also read the article on 10 high-stress personality characteristics and I have a good many of them. Could having a mother that I was never able to please have anything to do with this? LOL! I also have a challenging part-time job in health care. I eat whenever I am stressed. So I definitely could use some techniques to help me handle stress. I am so thankful that I found SparkPeople.

Hi I was happy to find this challenge. I have a lot of stress with dealing with anxiety and other issues. I am happily married and I have a six year old daughter. That being said, I have a challenging part time job in health care and I also want to quit smoking. I am a little nervous about the thought of actually losing weight and gaining some success in that area, because every time I have lost weight in the past I have felt somewhat more vulnerable which only adds to stress. I am looking to quit smoking tomorrow, Sunday, and I am eager to begin this challenge and learn some new coping techniques in dealing with life stress etc. Thanks for this challenge!

Hi! I've been crazy stressed lately, my entire family has! I'm home base and have been trying to keep everything going and make sure everyone feels supported and I've found myself feeling like a teeny island overwhelmed by a continual onslaught of stress waves. That ends today. So glad I found this challenge. I know it will help me be mindful of the stress in my life and help me tap into the tools I need to manage it better (or eradicate it all together).

Hi, I am Sherri. I am 50 years old. I have had MS for 15 1/2 years. I am the caregiver of my boyfriend/husband for the last 7 years. He has MS also. He had Chronic Pancreatitis for over 5 years he was in severe pain only slightly relieved by narcotics (legal). He had a transplant in September 2012. Removal of Pancreas, Gallbladder &Spleen. His own Islet (Insulin Making) cells transplanted into his liver for them to work there (they are!!) He does have many other problems though. That all started in 2007. In 2009 my Mom's COPD and Emphysema got real bad and required me to be her caregiver also. I was the only child (now 50 year old child) living anywhere near. I was an hour north of her. It was a rough ride. Bruce got 'mostly' better. Mom said goodbye on 12-25-2012. THEN I fell apart! Battles with my sister over Mom's estate. Finally I gave up. MY way of dealing with stress. I am trying. With the schedule I kept for that many years.........I became obsessive with 'ways of doing things'. Almost OCD. My MS is doing it's OWN thing now. Counseling taught me how to do imaging as a stress reliever. But things are still getting to me. Time management and having to do 'everything' just 'so'. My Church family helps by just being available and prayers. It does help but ...................Sorry to be such a 'downer' at the beginning but I thought you should know where I am coming from.

Hi I am ram, I'm 28 yrs. old having 2 babies already (8 and 4yrs.old). Stress is becoming my close friend for some time now, I notice I laugh less and easily becoming irritated. Sometimes it makes me feel bad coz I want to enjoy life, I want to enjoy every minute with my children. It's just that I feel somehow I'm lost. I am a housewife for 5yrs now after I marry my husband. So I'm surrounded by my family (my father, my HUsband, and my 2kids) I am living far from my country, I am living here in dubai for 7yrs now. As the kids grow I alwàys stays in the home, coz I don't have friends here, I know some but they are single. :) I feel this stress makes me gain weight.:( but hopefully In'sha'Allah I will defeit this.

This is my first challenge, and chose this one first because stress is one of my biggest problems.
My name is Nic, im 28 from London, UK. I'm the manager of a bakery and work 50+hrs a week. A lot of stress is derived from the job, but I also have endometriosis - a health condition that can be pretty debilitating when it wants. I've recently moved 250miles away from my family to live with my partner and a fair amount of stress comes from problems i know are occuring at my parents and i can't do anything about it. Looking forward to completing this challenge and hopefully becoming a better person!

Believe it or not, I have been a member of SparkPeople quite some time. However, I have not actively done anything about my lifestyle change and weight loss other than joining and reading some of the blogs. Today was a good day; and the best day to begin becoming a new me!
I like many women am sick and tired of wearing the 20's. The burden of my weight affected my ability to enjoy myself - and mingle with his friends. I cannot continue to avoid pictures or avoid looking at them once their taken because of my weight.
I am disgusted that my body image has been projected onto my daughter. She looks like me - in more ways that one! How can I worry about her health and weight, when I'm not doing anything to change me?????
Rome wasn't built in a day, nor did I become overweight overnight! I recognize that I have to crawl before I walk - walk before I run. Tracking and blogging will help me to take the baby steps required before I soar!
No excuses - I resolve to be a better me.
Getting the New Year off to a good start with a focus on being a better me - that way I will have better interactions with everyone I encounter! Must remember two things:
1) Rome was not built in a day. 2) If you have a bad day or miss achieving your nutritional goals, dust yourself off and try again.
I've got a new attitude because I realize that it's one day at a time, one meal at a time, and one step at a time.
One day, one meal, one choice, one step to a new me! Go D-Dub!

stress is really not my friend, but it seems to be a huge part of my life. At present, I travel from my home to my daughter's (erie to buffalo) to babysit while she works and finishes school. it's wreaking havoc on my carefully crafted routine, but I try to maintain

Hi everyone, I'm Marlon.
I moved countries to study in 2013 and have had a tough winter adjusting! I wouldn't say that I'm 'on the edge' in terms of stress levels, but could do with a few lessons on better coping techniques :)

Hey there everyone,
My name is Les and I'm stressed. (little word play) I really am! When you spend most of the day worrying about telling your 87 year old mother that your going to put in place a DNR notice, well, that can be stressful. My mom is in an nursing home. She was not feeling very good the last few days, and I thought that I should have a DNR order placed in her file. Even though this is her wish, it's still hard to talk about this stuff. I get stressed easily. In other areas of my life.........marriage, son, etc. There's more! But each time I get stressed, my blood pressure goes high. Then I worry about that. The funny thing about it..........I'm retired!!! But, that's just me I guess. I don't know how to relax anymore. Hopefully, this club, and challenge will work for me.

Hello! My name is Michelle. I am 27 years old and I had my son last September. I am ready to start losing the weight that has been so hard for me to lose. Stress is a large part of life and I believe that it is what is really holding me up when it comes to losing my weight gained when I was pregnant.

Hello, my name is Jodi and I am 42 years old. I stress over the little things. I don't stress as much as I use to, but I still stress, I just keep it more inside then show my stress. I think maybe that is worse than letting it out. I have been told that all my stomach trouble and my surgery was pretty much caused by stress. I know I need to relax more and let things go, it is just easier said than done. So, my goal for this challenge it to learn how to deal with stress the right way and not turn to food to help (knowing that the food doesn't help at all).

Hi I am Purabi. I am 37 and living with 2 kids 4 and 11. My older one is acting out as a typical adolescent would...but I guess I am getting too worked up with it. I hit the fridge after every argument or banged door etc. I am up to 161 pounds again after going down to 148. My goal is 115 pounds and it seems to be getting farther away and that is adding to my stress. My husband works in another city and I feel I have to bear the burden of this challenging time in parenting alone.

A LOT happened since Sept. 27, 2013. My husband's brother passed away on Dec. 18, (exactly a week before Christmas) we put their mother in a hospital on Dec. 20 and then a nursing home on the 24th!
That has resulted in more stress than most of my previous years put together. I never knew losing one of them would create more discord than having them arguing almost all the time, but it did.
I gained weight, instead of losing it and am now heavier than ever before. Gee whiz!

I joined this challenge a few days ago, but just found this link to introduce myself. Anyway, stress in the form of being a long distance "caregiver" for elderly relatives is an almost daily part of my life. I need to learn how to not let it influence how, what, and when I eat.

Hi I am joining this team because I feel that I just don't know how to stop and take a break to distress. I am a stay home mom, I have 3 kids, two of school age and one who stays home with me. Throughout the day I clean, watch TV and cook, at times it all feels very overwhelming and this is where my stress comes from, I feel that I do a lot and yet, it all seems so not worth it. I feel that I need help with time management and doing something every day to help me distress and feel like myself and not just Mom or Wife.

Hi! I'm Maggie. I am joining this team to learn how to better handle stress. People are always telling me to de-stress and I want to know more about how to do that.
The blog really only touches on some of the sources of my overwhelming stress. Thank goodness I have running and exercise to help. I need other resources as well - so that is why I am here.

Hi - I'm joining this team because I have noticed a pattern of behavior where I eat eat eat when I'm stressed out. I'm looking for tools to manage stress and get my eating under control. I would really rather eat to nourish my body then eat to put a poor bandaid on my emotions.
I'm not losing weight, I'm getting rid of it. I have no intention of finding it again!

I've been getting sick lately and I wonder how much stress has to do with it. I am pulled in a number of different directions, mostly from taking care of my family. Sometimes their needs collide and I still try to give to each of them equally. I'm hoping I'll learn how to put things in perspective and mange all this better. I figure if my body is showing it, I'd better do something about it as soon as I can. I wouldn't mind getting sick once in a while, but it's been one bout of sickness after another, sometimes with no pauses in between.

Hello, I'm Michele. I definitely have OCD. I need to learn how to take things more in stride and not get so uptight over things that don't matter. I need to put things into God's hands and not try to control my life. I plan things out too much and go crazy when they don't work out "my way". I can use help in not stressing out over the little things.
Michele But He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you. For My power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake I DELIGHT in weaknesses, in hardships, in insults, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. II Corinthians 12:9 & 10

First...Hi to all the other new members from another new member! We are going to kick stress out of the door, together!
Yesterday I must have been on a roll, I joined 4 challenge teams! Whatever was I thinking!!! LoL Actually, I need to be challenged, I need the structure of what to do next, as left on my own, I just go off to another world. Due to my mind and body being in conflict with each other, I have really focused on sparkpeople and am learning so many, positive things. I was always healthy, active and up, then when I got sick, it really slipped me into a place I would wish on no one. So, now, it is time to quit feeling sorry for Kat and climb out of the hole and face life and its realities head on. So, here I am.
Kat from Reno, NV., wearing many hats, with many plates, and learning to accept life as it is.
