Welcome, Janie.

Hello, I'm new to this group. Stress has always made me unhealthy, and 12 years ago, it even caused me to have a stroke. Since then, I have tried to be a more positive person, and my Lord and savior Jesus Christ has found me. Sometimes, though, after all of this, in times of uncertainty, I turn into something that I just despise, which makes it even worse. I don't like that person, and want to change that permanently. Each day is a struggle, and often depressing. I think it's affecting my thyroid health, as I have gained a LOT of midsection fat, and I'm constantly irritable, among other physical evidences. I am trying to solve this problem. I haven't received my first challenge email yet, but I will embrace the challenge and HOPE for the best! This will certainly be interesting.

Forgive yourself and move on.

Stress has been a big part of my life over the past five or six years. My husband suffers from depression and anxiety and when he has a bad day I completely lost control over my emotions and spend my entire day stressed about every single thing there is to stress about. It's not fun. I am looking forward to learning some tips to managing stress and learning how to deal with it in a much better manner than I have been.

-the spirit with equanimity and self-awareness"

I'm a single mom who recently changed jobs to be closer to home, which has made some things easier with my 3 kids, but has added to my financial difficulties. I now work as a teacher in a public school - not exactly a low-stress job - and I do freelancing work to supplement. My stress stems from:
1.) Finances. I feel like I've explored all of my options, and am still unable to accumulate enough of a cushion to soften the next blow.
2.) Single parenting/household. My ex-husband has now moved out of state, and neither of us had family in the state where I live. I do have good friends, but no family within driving distance. My house needs several major repairs.
3.) Career. Professional satisfaction is very important to me - and I'm not thrilled with the place I'm currently working.
4.) Body/weight. I often "reward" myself with food, as well as eat when stressed. The results are apparent. I have clothes in my closet I can no longer wear - and no money to buy new ones (see #1 above).

Until 3 years ago or so, I felt I kept stress (mostly) at bay. (That emotional eating is a killer). But recently, stress has manifested itself in my body - from back pain to tightness in my throat and jaw. I've been practicing yoga and have made some progress, but the anxiety and stress continues to be constantly present.

I signed up for Spark to a.) improve my exercise routine, which in turn I hope to help decrease stress; b.) decrease emotional eating, and c.) find additional ways to deal with stress. I'm not ruling out medication, but I want to try lifestyle changes first.

Oops.

So it's Week 2 and I completely forgot to introduce myself. I'm going to chalk that up to stress (rimshot).

Bad jokes asides, I'm Jennifer. I work full time in retail, have a really bad boss, and go to school full time. Did I mention the really bad boss? I also have great coworkers, and wonderful family, and a cat who thinks I'm the best. For me and for them, I'm going to bust this stress.

You are either part of the solution or you are part of the problem.

My name is Becky. I am divorced. Currently, I am unemployed and have a ton of stress because of it. I am sending out at least 10 resumes per day and haven't had an interview in 3 weeks. I need all the help I can get to keep from getting any more stressed out. I also suffer from bipolar disorder which doesn't help matter.

Hi, My name is Regi, I am married to my best friend and we have 2 daughters one of whom lives in Seattle. We recently moved to North Carolina to follow the husbands job, leaving behind all of our family and friends in Maine. While I really am loving North Carolina, I feel a bit lost. We don't know anyone here and I am not the best at making friends. :) On top of that we are a homeschooling family, our youngest child is going to be a senior in high school the upcoming school year. I will be turning 50 this year, and its a scary time. My mother died the year she was to turn 52 of a heart attack after being misdiagnosed with heartburn. I am getting scared that I will do the same thing (leaving them) to my girls and I can't let that happen. So... lots of stress that I need to learn to control while at the same time developing healthy eating habits, adding exercise in our lives and losing weight in a healthy manner.

I am in hopes this challenge will teach me to control the stress so that I can be successful in other areas as well.

Thank you,
Regi

Hi, I'm LaineyBug and I'm new to Spark People since Monday and new to this challenge group since yesterday.
I have PTSD, depression, generalized anxiety disorder, and borderline personality disorder. I also have diabetes, PCOS, and other health issues.
Managing stress in my life is a difficult task, but it's also one of the most important tasks. Stress affects all areas of my life and makes managing my diseases much harder.
So, I figured this challenge would be an intricate part of my journey to being healthier.
Thanks and blessings on everyone's journey here.

I'm bad. I don't remember if I've posted here or not, so instead of scrolling through 33 pages, I'll just post. I'm Paula. In my former life, I was a middle school teacher, school librarian, and professor in a university school librarian program. I'm now retired and discovering new talents: writing, blogging, and bestest grandmom and wife in the universe. My husband and I have been married 40 years in October. My stress comes mostly from chronic pain, which is why I am actively readjusting my lifestyle. Looking forward to losing, learning, and sharing.

Hello, My name is Shanon. I joined this challenge because my eye twitches, and my back locks up when I get under a good deal of stress. I hate taking medication and will only take it as a very last resort. I'm hoping to learn some really good coping techniques in this challenge. I'm hoping this will help me progress in my weight loss journey.

I want to change how I handle stress. Now, I handle it (really?) with mindless eating. I know I should handle it by taking a walk, reading, meditating, or some other method, but I am having a difficult time doing the right thing. I am joining this challenge in the hope that I will make the changes I need to make and react to stress in a more healthy manner.

Hi y'all! I'm 60 years young, love to walk my dog and when I'm in hiking country do some short hikes. Learning to live alone again, my son recently moved out so I'm adjusting to that and two new asthma medications that have really kicked me in the butt. Trying to get back on track so I can lose the rest of this weight. I've been stressing about money (to pay the bills, put groceries on the table, etc). Been binge/emotional eating lately and trying to get off that roller coaster into healthier habits. Looking for fresh ideas, support and encouragement.

Start with small steps and momentum will build. Celebrate moving in the direction of increased happiness now! With a plan and persistence moving towards your goals all things are possible! ♥ From Ask-Angels.com

Hi everyone :)
I'm 20 and I'm juggling looking after a house, a boyfriend (who tries his best but is definitely NOT a tidy person!), a full-time university course which includes 9 week periods of unpaid placement, and trying to stretch money to cover basic costs and fun activities. I go through periods of being completely relaxed to being horrendously stressed and unable to cope with the pressure of everything, hoping to learn some good tips from being here to stop me emotionally eating!!

My name is Dawn, I will be 44 next month and I am way over stressed. I have 2 children, one with disabilities. My father passed away in Oct and I am trying to help my mom now that she is alone. I just caught my husband engaging in an old BAD habit last week. This has thrown me for a loop. I travel 2x a week to a job that is 2.5 hrs away and work from home the other days. My boss is pressuring me to move closer to the office. SO much more going on but I am tired of hearing myself complain. I am here to try and work on the things I can change...ME! I need to work on handling these very stressful situations because they are not going away anytime soon.

I can do it...I will do it...I am doing it!

Hi, my name is Lorrie. I am 46 years old, and am struggling with the fun "menopause" stage of my life. I lost my Father this past July after caring for him for 4 years...I am struggling with his death, my relationship with my Stepdaughter, and my Son leaving for 2 years in the military. I am an emotional eater and my sleeping habits are awful. I just have no motivation and am looking for support and motivation. I am looking forward to starting this challenge.

Hi, my name is Ann. I always seem to get stressed out. I try to just walk away and take a breather. Today was a bad day. I let someone stress me out at work. I am working very hard to control the stress and learn to just take a deep breath and move on.

Hi, I'm on this challenge because I go round in circles again and again - always finding myself back in a sort of 'black hole' of over-whelmed-ness! I recognise that stress is a chronic devil that keeps building back up again. So here I am ......... working on spring-cleaning my stress-ball!

Hey all!

I'm Rochelle and I'm here to challenge myself to live a stress-less life. I have been dealing with some anxiety issues recently that have been really hard to get through. My goals for this challenge are to: 1) Let go of control/stop worrying about things out of my control. 2) Identify things that make me happy and do them more often! 3) Think positively.

Wish me luck!

Hi! I'm Melanie, and I joined this challenge obviously to get a handle on stressors in my life. I see what stress is doing to my family, and I've felt what it's like to have stress get the best of me. My goals are to do what I can to combat the stress I feel every day. I've started cooking and eating healthier, and the scale shows it! I've also started exercising to release those endorphins. Now, I need to focus on the mental health aspect of it. I'm starting to practice yoga at the gym Saturday mornings, and trying to take a few minutes to myself at work so I can meditate and clear my mind. All of this sounds like I'm off to a good start, and I may be, but for some reasons I still feel stressed. I know the causes, I just need to get a handle on them. That's why I'm here! Take care everyone!

Hi Everyone, I am from Pennsylvania, my name is Theresa.
I joined the Official Stress Busting Challenge Team because my Dr.'s, both say I need to find a way to shake off this stress. It is killing me ~ slowly.

My biggest goal in this quest is to get more sleep.

Hi everyone,

I'm Jess. I happened upon this challenge while I was sitting here stressing out at my desk. lol I think my main stressors are trying to maintain functionality at the house and my job. Really mostly my job. Regardless of how hard I try to maintain a schedule to I find myself constantly double booked. Sometimes I just want to stop and do nothing for a whole month. I tend to help a lot of people so that wouldn't go over well. I hope to find a way to manage and deal with my stress and maybe even find a way to say no to the things that cause me so much stress.

Hi everybody,
I'm excited to learn how to react differently to my stress. In the past, I have made mountains out of mole-hills, and intend to stop this habit and replace it with moving my body instead of vegging out in front of the TV while stuffing my feelings with food and drink. I am looking forward to this 4 week challenge; can't wait to learn something new.
I currently am working retail at a grocery store. The rumour mill seems to be twisting my words, and magnifying my mistakes. It's not a nice place to work.
On a more positive note, I have gone back to school, and I am still working full-time at the store. I am half-way through my medical transcriptionist schooling. It should take me about another 6 months to complete, but with my paid work taking up so much of my time and energies, I am determined to make it happen until I finish the schooling, then I will be working from home, and triumphing over my current probs.
For right now, I kind of feel like I've got too many obligations, but I need to finish school in order to get a better paying, and more secure job.
Thanks for listening.

I am finally ready to make some much needed life changes. I am 42 yrs old, and by all accounts number wise extremely overweight. I am tired not being able to fit into anything without my stomach hanging out or over my pants, Tired of looking at myself and not liking what I have allowed myself to become. No longer willing to yo-yo diet. I am committed to making the changes

Hello from Michigan! I just found this challenge and am so glad! I am a textbook TypeA person whose stress has manifested in many physical ways. My Doc has threatened to put me on a tranquilizer if I don't reduce my stress. I am looking forward to reading the materials on this board and to finding more tools for my tolbox. Nice to meet ya!

Hello all! I am joining this challenge because of my stressful work. I recognize that the stress at work has added more than 20 pounds to my weight in the past year, so something needs to change!! I'm hoping that the techniques and the challenges here will help me do that.

This is a rolling challenge. It's never too late to join and you can go at your own pace. It's set for 4 weeks, but if you need longer for any particular week, take as much time as you need.

Welcome to the challenge!

I just joined this Challenge, I hope it's not too late. I have stress from my worry about my health issues and worry about family members. Eating is my motivator to take care of things that I don't want to do. I had lost 15 pounds recently, then my ex had a stroke and I came down with a sinus infection...gained 10 pounds. Not feeling well, I sat around too much and now it's like I have to start all over again..., stiff with back pain. Forever going around in circles. Feeling guilty and want to apologize for being so negative, but this is a stress challenge. Thank you for reading.

Too much stress makes me chronically ill , for too long. Want to learn to set boundaries and not just react or hibernate. Find alternatives and coping methods. Where can I find a journal on the site? I came back to SP and forgot where to go for that as this team mentions a stress journal?

My name is Greta. I go back and fourth between moderate stress to high intense stress. When I get stressed, it affects my entire body anywhere from headaches, stomach issues and moodiness. I would like to find effective ways to help with alleviating stress and to make myself better overall with controlling stress.

Hi all,

After a mental melt down this morning I thought I'd look for a healthy solution instead of a box of cookies. Have a stressful job, ailing parents, an occasionally crazy boyfriend, and found out not too long ago -gall stones. Hoping to learn to cope better. This challenge sounded like a good place to start.

Hi! This challenge sounds just like what I need right now! I'm an elementary teacher and have, hands down, the most challenging class I have ever had. On top of that, administration is piling it on this year. I'm a stress eater, so those two things are leading me down a path to self-destruction.

I'm hoping to learn some new stress reduction techniques before this class gets the best of me!

Hello everyone,
I'm back on Spark after a hiatus. I am a solo attorney and get pretty stressed trying to get everything done and done well, as well as bill enough time to keep my family going (three kids in college). I often don't manage my time well, don't sleep well at all, and often turn to food. (I have many blessings as well, including having a successful solo practice and family I adore). I'm hoping this challenge will help motivate me to re-start my meditation practice and get more efficient so that I can enjoy some down time. Looking forward to it!

Hello everyone!

I've always had stress in my life and unfortunately, I have noticed that as I have gotten older, I'm allowing much more things to bother me than I use to. Can't wait to see what this challenge does for all of us as we hopefully learn to just breathe.

I've been stressing an inordinate amount of the last 2 years since I graduated from medical school. I've been overeating and consequently losing energy and gaining weight. I need to cut out the root problem and take control of my life.

Hi there.

My Name is Kate and I am 26 years old. I have used SparkPeople before and fallen off the wagon, but recently really looked at where I am and I hate it. I recently resigned from my job in the last month to avoid being fired, and I was apathetic. I realized I had no passion for my job anymore. I was bored. Also I just had no energy or drive. If I want to be successful in my next job I need to have that, I need to love me and be willing to sell it, right now I am not.
