Good Afternoon....

I am Suzenna from Colorado. I joined this challenge to learn ways to reduce stressors in my life and also to hopefully improve my quality of sleep. The stress test said that I have some vulnerability to stress.

Good morning. During the last few years my ability to handle stressful situations has lessened, usually resulting in anger on my part. I recognize that anger is not an effective coping method and am actively trying to practice anger management and stress management. I know most of my "triggers" and try to preempt them, but find it very difficult to do when at work.

More sleep, increased exercise, less coffee and less wine all help in managing my stress. I am looking forward to learning more ways to relieve stress and, with less stress, the anger that I feel.

Hi, I'm Cheryl. This is the third time I've started this challenge. Hopefully I will complete it this time! Have had a lot of stressful family events this year and it's not going to change anytime soon with several family members having health issues. I will try to stay on track this time. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hello my name is Gini and I joined this challenge to help me be more reliant on myself instead of others. I am afraid of everything and have allowed myself to become afraid to even try new things. the first challenge for me begins tonight with the arrival of my 2 darling grandsons. They are 5 and 6 and will be staying with us for a week. Time to get out of m chair and start living.

Hi Kesia,

Yes, sleep is important for numerous reasons. You can cope better when rested. Less frustration with things and feeling more positive happens when one is rested. Less hunger, as hormones change when you don't get your rest. Your body naturally perceives itself to be stressed when fatigued. You lose weight and feel like a different person when rested. Your body heals itself while sleeping.

The list can go on.

So, get your sleep in daily, stick to a regular sleep schedule even on the weekends and track it for a while. You will see how well you're doing or know what you need to change.

Good luck. I'm not good at getting in the sleep but I'm a work in progress and know how much better everything is when I get steady good sleep.

You never know what is enough unless you know what is more than enough. [William Blake: Proverbs of Hell]

Hello!
I joined the challenge to help show me how to reduce or handle the stress that is in my life. I think I do a good job at handling it so far, but would like to learn how to handle it better.

Hi everyone. I have been really off center the last few years and I want to get beck on an even keel. My answer to stress growing up was eating. Actually that was the answer to loneliness, depression, and celebration too. I have been very stressed the last couple of months and I need to ways to deal with it or reduce it other than meditation. I've been falling asleep when I try to meditate, so I know I need more sleep.

It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.

Hello Folks,
New to this team suggested by Spark Coach.

I'm facing a lot of life changes in the next year or so. Looking at retirement, closing a business, cleaning out a home to then sell and move into something smaller--but where, have grown children with some recent health concerns (one may be a real concern & we'll just have to wait for some tests to be done--now that stresses me), and I'm ambivalent about all the changes. I'm someone who likes to have a plan and I don't really have one worked out as there are some things & people who need to factor into it all.

Time to turn around and face all of this and address what worries me.

You never know what is enough unless you know what is more than enough. [William Blake: Proverbs of Hell]

Hi, I'm Violet and I so glad I found this challenge . My stress is mainly brought on by myself. I have two little ones. Well one is 6 and in Kindergarten (so not so little anyore emoticon )and the other is 3 and will be joining her sister in school in a little over a year's time. So besides that stress I also have severe anxiety which of course means I stress over the slightest things making it hard to determine what is important enough to stress over . Hoping I can at least get a handle on it by the end of this challenge.

I'm here again! I think this might be the third time I've joined this Challenge. I was sorting through all my blogs and deleting some old stuff, and saw how helpful this Challenge had been (in 2014 I think).

Stress is a quiet disease - builds up gradually then takes you right down! It's such a common denominator in so many other issues, that it's worth keeping up with it.

I blog most days on my Spark page and you can find out pretty much everything about me there. In other words, I can't be bothered to write it all out again here! What do you need to know? I'm 62, female, single. One son, married, expecting their first baby in April. I work full time as a support worker with adults with learning disabilities. I don't earn enough money. I don't have car, washing machine, freezer, TV. I do have mercifully good health and live in a beautiful part of the world, by the sea.

I get kind of tired and cross before I realize that stress has built up too much. I've recently gone back to decaff coffee - because caffeine had crept back in. I run regularly - great stress reliever!

Hi my name is Debbie, and my middle name is stress! Not really, but it feels like it. I have been living in severe stress for almost all of my adult life.
4 years ago, my husband died. He had early on set Alzheimers. I took care of him for almost 7 years. After he died, I moved 3 times in 4 years, was severely sick, grieving, scared of being single, went to CNA school, worked a part time job and now my full time job as a Home Care Aide CNA at a retirement community. My last move was renting a bedroom in a townhouse owned by a nurse. Thankfully it is 6 minutes from work. Major downsizing and adjustment. Also working now 43 hours a week ( it was 46 hours a week), and 12 days in a row, with only 4 days off a month.
I am finding all sorts of unspoken rules and gray areas that I am often being corrected at work. This is my first full time job in over 20 years, and with chronic illness.

Hi, my name is Pat & I live in Glen Allen, VA with my husband of 42 years. We are both retired. We are about to have my niece and her 4 kids, age 5, 11, 13 & 17 come to live with us for a while.
Life is going to be interesting. I have a stress free life right now, but I think that may be changing, ha, ha! So I am thinking I might pick up some tips on how to handle stress now before they come around August 11th.

I'm Kim and I just finished week one. I'm 57, live in Las Vegas and this is the year I am doing with a lot of inner work. Most of the stress I deal with is at work and the rest of it is self imposed! *LOL* I'm learning to get out of my own way and I'm hoping this challenge will help with this!

I'm Connie. I'm 49 years old and finally getting my life back on track. I'm an emergency dispatcher for the fire department in Lubbock, Texas where I work the midnight shift (10pm to 6am). Then I work at an in-home daycare with 12 wonderful pre-schoolers until 1:00 or 5:30pm, depending on the day. I don't have much time for anything but work right now, but seeing age 50 quickly approaching made me realize that it's time to stop talking about it and actually start working toward my goal of getting in shape and getting healthy! Hopefully this group will help me get in gear. I look forward to getting to know some of you.

The stress in my life has been very high, lately, and I have found myself having physical stress reactions that I have never had before. Scary! I use food and alcohol to medicate my stress, with the unfortunate results you might predict. I am familiar with many stress reduction techniques, but need some structured guidance to get me started down the right path. This seems like a good place to do that!

Welcome, Janie.

Hello, I'm new to this group. Stress has always made me unhealthy, and 12 years ago, it even caused me to have a stroke. Since then, I have tried to be a more positive person, and my Lord and savior Jesus Christ has found me. Sometimes, though, after all of this, in times of uncertainty, I turn into something that I just despise, which makes it even worse. I don't like that person, and want to change that permanently. Each day is a struggle, and often depressing. I think it's affecting my thyroid health, as I have gained a LOT of midsection fat, and I'm constantly irritable, among other physical evidences. I am trying to solve this problem. I haven't received my first challenge email yet, but I will embrace the challenge and HOPE for the best! This will certainly be interesting.

Forgive yourself and move on.

Stress has been a big part of my life over the past five or six years. My husband suffers from depression and anxiety and when he has a bad day I completely lost control over my emotions and spend my entire day stressed about every single thing there is to stress about. It's not fun. I am looking forward to learning some tips to managing stress and learning how to deal with it in a much better manner than I have been.

You must nourish:
-the body with healthy food
-the heart with joy, compassion, and love
-the mind with knowledge
-the spirit with equanimity and self-awareness"

I'm a single mom who recently changed jobs to be closer to home, which has made some things easier with my 3 kids, but has added to my financial difficulties. I now work as a teacher in a public school - not exactly a low-stress job - and I do freelancing work to supplement. My stress stems from:
1.) Finances. I feel like I've explored all of my options, and am still unable to accumulate enough of a cushion to soften the next blow.
2.) Single parenting/household. My ex-husband has now moved out of state, and neither of us had family in the state where I live. I do have good friends, but no family within driving distance. My house needs several major repairs.
3.) Career. Professional satisfaction is very important to me - and I'm not thrilled with the place I'm currently working.
4.) Body/weight. I often "reward" myself with food, as well as eat when stressed. The results are apparent. I have clothes in my closet I can no longer wear - and no money to buy new ones (see #1 above).

Until 3 years ago or so, I felt I kept stress (mostly) at bay. (That emotional eating is a killer). But recently, stress has manifested itself in my body - from back pain to tightness in my throat and jaw. I've been practicing yoga and have made some progress, but the anxiety and stress continues to be constantly present.

I signed up for Spark to a.) improve my exercise routine, which in turn I hope to help decrease stress; b.) decrease emotional eating, and c.) find additional ways to deal with stress. I'm not ruling out medication, but I want to try lifestyle changes first.

Oops.

So it's Week 2 and I completely forgot to introduce myself. I'm going to chalk that up to stress (rimshot).

Bad jokes asides, I'm Jennifer. I work full time in retail, have a really bad boss, and go to school full time. Did I mention the really bad boss? I also have great coworkers, and wonderful family, and a cat who thinks I'm the best. For me and for them, I'm going to bust this stress.

You are either part of the solution or you are part of the problem.

Hi, My name is Regi, I am married to my best friend and we have 2 daughters one of whom lives in Seattle. We recently moved to North Carolina to follow the husbands job, leaving behind all of our family and friends in Maine. While I really am loving North Carolina, I feel a bit lost. We don't know anyone here and I am not the best at making friends. :) On top of that we are a homeschooling family, our youngest child is going to be a senior in high school the upcoming school year. I will be turning 50 this year, and its a scary time. My mother died the year she was to turn 52 of a heart attack after being misdiagnosed with heartburn. I am getting scared that I will do the same thing (leaving them) to my girls and I can't let that happen. So... lots of stress that I need to learn to control while at the same time developing healthy eating habits, adding exercise in our lives and losing weight in a healthy manner.

I am in hopes this challenge will teach me to control the stress so that I can be successful in other areas as well.

Thank you,
Regi

Hi, I'm LaineyBug and I'm new to Spark People since Monday and new to this challenge group since yesterday.
I have PTSD, depression, generalized anxiety disorder, and borderline personality disorder. I also have diabetes, PCOS, and other health issues.
Managing stress in my life is a difficult task, but it's also one of the most important tasks. Stress affects all areas of my life and makes managing my diseases much harder.
So, I figured this challenge would be an intricate part of my journey to being healthier.
Thanks and blessings on everyone's journey here.

I'm bad. I don't remember if I've posted here or not, so instead of scrolling through 33 pages, I'll just post. I'm Paula. In my former life, I was a middle school teacher, school librarian, and professor in a university school librarian program. I'm now retired and discovering new talents: writing, blogging, and bestest grandmom and wife in the universe. My husband and I have been married 40 years in October. My stress comes mostly from chronic pain, which is why I am actively readjusting my lifestyle. Looking forward to losing, learning, and sharing.

Hello, My name is Shanon. I joined this challenge because my eye twitches, and my back locks up when I get under a good deal of stress. I hate taking medication and will only take it as a very last resort. I'm hoping to learn some really good coping techniques in this challenge. I'm hoping this will help me progress in my weight loss journey.

I want to change how I handle stress. Now, I handle it (really?) with mindless eating. I know I should handle it by taking a walk, reading, meditating, or some other method, but I am having a difficult time doing the right thing. I am joining this challenge in the hope that I will make the changes I need to make and react to stress in a more healthy manner.

Hi y'all! I'm 60 years young, love to walk my dog and when I'm in hiking country do some short hikes. Learning to live alone again, my son recently moved out so I'm adjusting to that and two new asthma medications that have really kicked me in the butt. Trying to get back on track so I can lose the rest of this weight. I've been stressing about money (to pay the bills, put groceries on the table, etc). Been binge/emotional eating lately and trying to get off that roller coaster into healthier habits. Looking for fresh ideas, support and encouragement.

Start with small steps and momentum will build. Celebrate moving in the direction of increased happiness now! With a plan and persistence moving towards your goals all things are possible! Adopt an attitude of gratitude. Be thankful for everything you have. It may not be what you want be show you're thankful for it anyway.
Live, laugh, love and find joy in life, Ramona

Hi everyone :)
I'm 20 and I'm juggling looking after a house, a boyfriend (who tries his best but is definitely NOT a tidy person!), a full-time university course which includes 9 week periods of unpaid placement, and trying to stretch money to cover basic costs and fun activities. I go through periods of being completely relaxed to being horrendously stressed and unable to cope with the pressure of everything, hoping to learn some good tips from being here to stop me emotionally eating!!

My name is Dawn, I will be 44 next month and I am way over stressed. I have 2 children, one with disabilities. My father passed away in Oct and I am trying to help my mom now that she is alone. I just caught my husband engaging in an old BAD habit last week. This has thrown me for a loop. I travel 2x a week to a job that is 2.5 hrs away and work from home the other days. My boss is pressuring me to move closer to the office. SO much more going on but I am tired of hearing myself complain. I am here to try and work on the things I can change...ME! I need to work on handling these very stressful situations because they are not going away anytime soon.

I can do it...I will do it...I am doing it!

Hi, my name is Lorrie. I am 46 years old, and am struggling with the fun "menopause" stage of my life. I lost my Father this past July after caring for him for 4 years...I am struggling with his death, my relationship with my Stepdaughter, and my Son leaving for 2 years in the military. I am an emotional eater and my sleeping habits are awful. I just have no motivation and am looking for support and motivation. I am looking forward to starting this challenge.

Hi, my name is Ann. I always seem to get stressed out. I try to just walk away and take a breather. Today was a bad day. I let someone stress me out at work. I am working very hard to control the stress and learn to just take a deep breath and move on.

Hi my name is Cheryl. I am stress balled up in a bundle. I have two special need children who are adult (children), I have my own health problems now yet they still think they should still come 1st. I've been married to my high school sweetheart for 32 years. He's retired Army, if that tells you anything. I have to change.

Hi, I'm on this challenge because I go round in circles again and again - always finding myself back in a sort of 'black hole' of over-whelmed-ness! I recognise that stress is a chronic devil that keeps building back up again. So here I am ......... working on spring-cleaning my stress-ball!

Hi All, I've become a stress eater over the last two extremely stressful years. As a result, I've gained 30+ pounds. I've started on this journey to balance my life, find a healthy way to deal with stress and lose the extra weight. I appreciate being on a team that will be so encouraging. Thanks!

Hey all!

I'm Rochelle and I'm here to challenge myself to live a stress-less life. I have been dealing with some anxiety issues recently that have been really hard to get through. My goals for this challenge are to: 1) Let go of control/stop worrying about things out of my control. 2) Identify things that make me happy and do them more often! 3) Think positively.

Wish me luck!

Hi everyone!
My name is Kristen! I am 27, a wife an mother of two wonderful children! My life is stressful, chasing my son around all day and answering the cries of my four-month-old daughter while my son is (literally) climbing the walls! I wouldn't change a thing about my life, except my management of my stress!
I look forward to meeting people here and sharing this journey with you all!

-the mind with knowledge
-the spirit with equanimity and self-awareness"
