Hi I'm Jenny. I live in Newport News VA with my husband of just 21 months :) and my (soon to be our son once the adoption is complete) son Gabriel who is 8 years old. My husband and I were reasonably trim when we met. I was about 15-20lbs from my goal weight and he was enlisted in Army and very fit. After we married and he retired we moved to Texas and packed on some pounds...about 30 each to be exact. We've had some wonderful rich meals, desserts, wines and beers together but now we both feel sluggish and we know we are setting a poor example for OUR (never get tired of that!!!) son. I want to help my family realize that proper nutrition and regular exercise is so much better than diet pills, shakes for meals and crazy intense fad diets.

Hi everyone! I am returning to SparkPeople after four years and gaining 20 of the 40 pounds I lost back. I signed up about a month ago, but am just getting around to using the website. I look forward to taking this journey with you.

Hi I'm Amy. I have been with Spark for about 1 1/2 years, but wasn't very committed. I've recently re-thought that, and asked my kids to help me. I think my older daughter eats reasonably well, but she doesn't get much exxercise. My younger daughter is very athletic, but a sugar FIEND. Both spend too much time in front of the TV as well. I'm hoping this challenge will get our family out of it's rut as well as helping me to deal with my daughters sugar addiction.

Hi, I'm Tiffany. I've lost about 85 pounds so far, and want to be able to help my family live healthier lives too. Fortunately, I was the only one with a real health issue because of my weight, but I want my husband (who has a few pounds to lose) and my teenaged daughter (who's very trim but slacking off on fitness) to feel like a healthy life is just the norm too.

Hello, my name is Gail but I prefer to go by Liz
I been on here for 9 months and lost 55 plus pounds.
I thought this would be funny to have a nightly discussion with my kids and teach them why its good to get healthy.
So the next 4 weeks we are going to learn together.

Hi, my name is Kim. I have been back and forth on Spark People for several years, however this time my plan is to stick with it and to learn about and enforce a healthier lifestyle for my family. My household consists of myself, my husband and our three daughters. Sadly, I admit that we are all overweight and unfit.

My husband and I have health problems that run in our families that being overweight can make worse. My husband had a heart attack at a VERY young age. He currently has high blood pressure, thyroid problems and sleep apnea and I am a pre-diabetic and have very low vitamin D levels.

Just recently, my husband had a heart episode in which the ER doctors advised him to see a cardiologist and have another stress test. Fortunately for him, the stress test detected something was not right and had to have an emergency procedure to prevent another heart attack.

That episode really scared us both. Because of that episode we both decided we needed to take a serious look at our life style and eating and fluid intake habits and those of our girls and do something about them!!! Fortunately, we quit smoking almost two years ago so none of us are exposed to daily cigarette smoke any more and neither my husband or myself drink alcohol but we were sweet tea'oholics!!!

Since his procedure, a lot of things have changed with our eating and drinking habits, however, my husband's and children's motivation seem to be declining and I CANNOT LET THAT HAPPEN!!! I have decided to really do a lot to help keep their motivation going, including signing us up for this challenge as well as signing us up for a 5k family fun run/walk, creating notebooks/journals for each of us and spark people pages to help keep them motivated and encouraged.

This time around, I plan to stick with you guys and keep as much of the positive energy flowing around me as I can, which in turn will help me continue to encourage and motivate my family!!!

Hi, I'm Linda and one of the reasons I decided to join Sparkpeople was for my family. Everyone is enjoying the Sparkrecipes. My family is very active, but I was the one sitting instead of doing. Now I am doing more with them and for myself. I went for a walk with my boys yesterday.

Hello,

My name is Matt and I live with my wife of 18 years and my 15 year old daughter. I injured my back 8 years ago and thought that was a good time to quit smoking. Fast forward a few years and I gained about 50 pounds. Managed to loose about 20 and since then I've probably lost another 150-200 pounds, problem is, it's the same weight, been stuck in the 210 zone, plus or minus 7-8 pounds.

My wife quit smoking 8 months ago and put on some weight...and she is not happy about it at all. So, we are going to take this journey together, I may even succeed this time since she will not be a bit more supportive.

Have a great journey,

Matt

Hi, my name is Amy. I have 2 daughters, 9 and 6, and I am concerned about their health. My eldest is just reaching puberty and she has developed a bit of a tummy, and my youngest is a sugar fiend who has been known to get up in the middle of the night to get into ice cream. Both are healthy now, but I worry about their futures. I am an older mom, and I have had great difficulty losing weight (though I am fairly active), so I'm worried that they will think that this is their destiny. Thank You.

Hi!

I am 40 and have 3 kids still at home, I adopted my niece when she was 11, she is 25 now and has a 1 year old that I babysit while she works. My world revolves around my family and this is the first time in 14 years they have all been at school all day away from me. So now is time for me to focus on me, but I also want them to benefit. My biggest challenge is my 10 year old is allergic to sugar in almost all forms. He also is ADHD and ODD.

Hi everyone! I'm 33 years old, married 5 years- no children. I want my husband to get on this bandwagon with me. We are both SIGNIFICANTLY overweight and while I'm trying to make positive changes in my life, it is over very hard to get him to do it with me as losing weight isn't as important to him. I would like to find ways of getting him more active with me (he loves sports, yet I have a very hard time in talking him in to playing catch or going to the batting cages with me, go figure!) and I would also like him to eat more healthfully. The man eats next to no vegetables unless its corn. I'm hoping this challenge will help me find ways of getting him to join me in this so we can both be happier and enjoy ourselves and each other more :)

Hi everyone! I'm a single mom to a super hyper 3 year old, living with my mom and brother while working full time in production. I separated from the military last summer, so I was used to staying in shape but since I've moved back home I've gained quite a bit of weight. I know a good part of this is falling back into the bad habit of eating out frequently and not exercising regularly. My son is also developmentally disabled so he takes up a lot of my time. My whole family is obese, and I want them to want to get healthy but not sure how to convince them. I know we need to do this as a family.

Hi everyone! I'm a young mom. I am 25 years old and I have a 5 yr old son. He starts kindergarten this fall and it's going to be so hard on me realizing he's old enough to go to school. I've been gaining weight for about two years. I got a promotion and I sit all day long. I also have a hour and a half drive one way work. It's becoming more and more difficult to keep up with my family and be healthy. Wish us luck!

Hi there! I am a 28 year old mother. I started a job about 7 months ago and am just getting over being sick for almost a year. Needless to say, I have put on a few pounds. I realized last night that I have gotten out of the habit of cooking and it has been almost a solid month since I made my son anything to eat from home (other than pb and j for his lunch box). Anyway, that is unacceptable. I want better for our family. Wish me luck!

My name is Kristen! I am 26, a stay-at-home-mom with a very energetic four and a half year old boy and 26 weeks pregnant with baby #2! Life for me can be a bit crazy at times and often my family falls into habits of whatever is easiest, and that doesn't always mean healthiest. I am very encouraged and motivated to get my family on a healthier track and to start doing more together.
Look forward to getting to know everyone!
Cheers!

emoticon Hi, my name is Sandy!
My family (that lives with me) includes myself, my 23 year old twin daughters, my 27 year old son-in-law, and my one and a half year old grandson. Life gets busy and hectic with different schedules and sometimes we fall in the trap of junk food or fast food and we spend way too much time setting in front of the tv. I have been working on changing all this, and thought this might be a good team to help me do it!

I am looking forward to getting to know you as I work on changing these habits!

Good Morning! I am a 29 year old mom to an almost 2 year old loveable and energetic little boy. I am wanting to get myself, my husband, and my little boy on the right track. Sometimes I feel like we can learn most from the little guy because he loves his healthy fruits and veggies and playing/being active! I am excited to be part of this team.

Good morning, my name is Carole. I have always been in very good shape & very active until...I married my 2nd husband who has type II diabetes. I have always eaten healthy whole foods, my dad always had a garden, caught out own seafood, raised our own chickens & rarely ever ate fried food. My husband's food choices are things I would & never did eat (biscuits & gravy, burgers, french fries, cakes & sweets, fried foods, pizza loaded with meat only), his idea of breakfast makes me cringe! Biscuits & gravy, hash browns, ham, bacon, sausage, 2-3 eggs, pancakes, toast with jelly (i actually like toast & jelly maybe once or twice a year). I have been trying to show him how to eat his fav foods but in healthier versions...that lasts a day or 2. It scares me so much watching how his blood sugar is out of control, extreme lows & high readings.

For the past 13 years, he tries to cook for me (big mistake). He does the grocery shopping & brings home "junk" foods. He also LOVES to eat out.

I went to college in 2007 (when the weight really started going up). Finally in Feb 2014 I couldn't get into my jeans one day, I thought I had the wrong pair...nope, right pair! I went right to the scale & was shocked to see 199.5!!!! So for Valentines Day, I told my husband if he really loved me, he would get me fruits & veggies instead of candy (he did). Since then, I have decided that he has had diabetes for 15 years, he refuses to eat healthy, only checks his BS when I tell him to, so I decided to just worry about getting back to the foods I was raised on (and cooked). The weight from consuming fresh healthy foods is really paying off.
(I still try to make his food healthier without him knowing it, I can't control the junk he eats from the vending machines at his work).

I just love this challenge, my sons don't want to be diabetic & they are totally on board & starting to say "no" to his way of eating.

This is a wonderful idea for a team challenge!

Hi, my name is Jo. I am 23 years old. I am a mother of one rambunctious toddler. I do not want my son to develop the poor life habits I did growing up, and I do not want him to face the struggle with weight and self image that has plagued me for so long. I've made the decision to live a better life, and the best way to do that is to make changes.

I'm currently living with my ex, his father, his sister, and my son. I want all of us to get healthier.

Hi my name is Jill and I am a mother of 2, ages 13 and 9. I find my family watches to much tv and plays to many video games at the same time eating out. My husband works away several weeks at a time and I find this depressing and overwhelming at times. So I have decided to make some serious changes. During the month of March I focused only on me. I recently turned 35 and seemed to wake up and realize my life is getting shorter as the days go by and I want to live to the absolute fullest. I want to be healthy, active and do as many things as I can and now it's time to add in my kids to a lifestyle change. I was so happy to come across this challenge today as April is now upon us and there is no time for anymore excuses. emoticon

Hi, my name is Rachael. I know all the steps, tools, ways to eat healthy. I even love to cook. I also am lucky enough to have been able to teach my children to love healthy foods, i.e. veggies, fruits, lean meats, etc. But somehow, we always end up back into a rut of eating out or ordering in. I get tired after work or frustrated at the grocery store and just say screw it.

I need to teach my self to not give in. To not be lured by the ease and tempting aromas (which are actually misleading because the food never tastes as good as it smells) from restauarants. I also need to get my kids in the habit of eschewing that "fast" food. They love healthy eats, but they also love those nasty ones.

Hello all! My name is Julie and I am a momma to 5 beautiful children (13, 10, 8, 6, 2). Needing very much to get myself healthier so I can be a good example to my children and show them that healthy is fun. My oldest daughter is also battling obesity and I feel like it is due in part to some of my poor decisions on eating habits that have not guided her to not be healthier. I accepted this challenge for myself as well as for my family because as the main person with my children (my husband is a truck driver and gone most of the week), it falls to me to make almost all the nutritional decisions and I need to be making GOOD choices! Hoping this challenge will give me some ideas and motivation to do just that!

Hi, I'm Vanessa. I'm mother of 4 (17, 12, 11, 6) and a step mother of 4 more (10, 9, 6, 4). It gets pretty exciting around our house on the weekends when we have the step-children. I am changing my lifestyle to be more healthy and working on incorporating all of this into my kids daily lives as well. I just need some tips and info from others who are struggling with the same thing I am. Happy to be here!

Hello everyone. My name is Christine. I have four kids ages 8, 5, 4 and 2. My life was so different when I only had two. I used to be super active and hardly watched tv. Now I never go outside. It is so hard to take these guys anywhere. That has to change now. My health is slipping away. I am only 31 but it feels as though I am 60. Being 60 pounds over weight doesn't help either. Baby steps sound perfect. I hope to grow and challenge myself with this team. I look forward to the help of other dedicated families too!

I joined SparkPeople to learn how to manage my life, to face the challenges of health issues associated with a chronic illness that is destroying my body. I feel that Spark People saved my sanity through education. The articles and video's, the challenge teams, tracking my food and exercise puts me back into control of how I live day to day.

I am married, have grown children (3), grand-kids(4),cats(5),and a dog. We live in Reno, Nevada and love it here. I am co-leader of “Living with Hepatitis C” and am in stage 4 of the virus. I love to laugh, form strong friendships, and to stay positive, as much as possible

Hello, I'm Heather. I just recently joined Spark People to get my weight under control and thought this would be a good time to jump start my family's healthy eating habits as well. My boyfriend as steadily gained weight since getting out of the Navy 2 years ago and my 4 year old son, while at a perfectly health weight, thinks that if he doesn't have a snack every hour he will starve to death. So hopefully by starting this as a family, we can help set a better example for him.

If you change nothing, nothing will change!

Hi, I'm Gina and I have been apart of Spark People for a while now and I never thought to include my family on my journey. My husband has been battling his weight for a while since he quit smoking but I didn't want to put too much pressure on him since he quit for me and I know how hard that is. I think some of these changes will improve our relationship as well as our health. We have an almost 3 year old son, who is very healthy and active and we should follow our guidelines for him more for ourselves. He eats all well balanced meals and loves his vegetables. He also is extremely active and loves to run around and play soccer. Since we both work full time, our time at home is spend doing chores or watching TV to unwind. I hope we can incorporate some of these first week changes without too much resistance. I look forward to a healthier lifestyle.

I'm Jaemi and in my effort to make myself healthier I think it's important that my family be healthy. We have 1 15 year old and while he is tall and slim I know that this can change in the future and I want to teach him a healthy way of life so he doesn't have to battle his weight when he gets older. I think this is a good first step in our journey to be a healthy family.
