I am following the Weston A. Price's foundation of cooking the old ways. Which means our foods are fresh and clean or have been preserved using the old methods. Bacon grease is ok to use provided you are using it without added nitrates and nitirites. Kind of hard to find but there are people out there who are beginning to make it that way.

I also use other animal fat to cook with that is clean and cooked down just for the grease.

And my last one which I use the most is raw coconut oil. It tolerates high heat unlike olive oil and most other oils.

Not to say I do not use other healthy oils in my meals I just do not cook with other oils because they become rancid when heated. I consume a fair amount of fat in my diet but I make sure it is healthy fat and I am loosing weight.

I make my own broth using bones, chicken feet, veggies, some meat and herbs with sea salt and drink on that during the day. I strain it when it is done cooking. Cooking time can range from 24 to 48 hours sometimes more. Bone broth is very healing to the gut and helps promote healthy gut flora and kills off the bad gut flora we have from eating the way we have been eating since processed foods came into being.

And I eat lots of avocados too. usually in my smoothies! Yummmmmmy!!!

If you find a worthy substitute for bacon fat, I want to hear about it. That's one of those ingredients where I say "all things in moderation".

Hi everyone! My mom wasn't a great cook, and dad taught me the no no of cooking with garlic salt and bacon grease. lol So I am in serious need of some healthy cooking skills that I can impress dad with. So I need to revamp the spice rack, and start baking more! The articles for this challenge are very informative, I can't wait to get started - eating healthier!

I'd have fun to, and love to resemble Julia again!
